    For the control on the D4, rough up the surface with some 60 grit, then wrap it with fiberglass mat and resin (you can get milled fibers to use as thickener for the resin if you want). If you want to get fancy, dremel in some vertical grooves across the crack on all sides and put some welding wire under the fiberglass mat for added strength. Once it's done, sand everything smooth and paint it, or wrap it with hockey tape for that "fine control grip". LOL

    I have to admit that CASE has stepped up their game with the 550 & the new 1650. Great transformation with this field Mike.

      Mike knows, it's one of the reasons he loves watching Jerry work. DP is soaking up every little trick he sees. I do the same myself.
      Someday (or in my case maybe now) younger guys look at what we can do and make it look so easy and quick and learn from us.

      I have said it before but Jerry is like watching my Grandpa work a blade. He drove Cat for over 40 years in the woods in Oregon. He started on Holt tractors and the 1st one had a steering wheel when he logged the redwoods back in the 30's. Jerry is another Master of the art of the Dozer or what I grew up as being called a CAT skinner. Good title to have.

    That Case dozer seems to work really well in that application. It bites down on those rocky areas with ease. That bull nose, wide foot and frame puts the weight where it needs to be. I didn't see track spin at all. It certainly finished nice and clean. A+

    It looks good and was steep to begin with. I think Jerry has it figured out from the end result you showed there. Only time will tell on longevity of the case and if it holds up to what they designed it to. I really enjoy the videos, but I am a lover of equipment and great operators. Mr. Weld it saving the power grid, Mr. Mike and Mr. Jerry about saving farmer Chris somefield. It's all good.

    What charles whitlock says, get a plastic welder, but insread of elecrical tape, see if they do heat shrink in that size. If they do, put a couple of pieces on, one at a time. That should hold it. Keep the content coming DP, I really look forward to watching your videos after I have had my evening meal.

    Mike, get one of those 'plastic welders'. It really just burns a wavy wire into the plastic across the break. Fast and simple, use a file or gentle grinder on the stabby ends it leaves. Then wrap it with a roll of electric tape. You will be good on the joystick for a long time.

    • @chetthejet3896
      @chetthejet3896 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mike
      I have welded plastic and it is not so easy to do. I would have used super glue and tape it and wrapped it as you did first. The heat on the wires would not be good. Weld is good for water pipes.

    A LITTLE TRICK WITH SUPERGLUE!!! Once you have the glue on and piece/pieces in place...sprinkle on some baking soda and BAM! it will set that glue completely in seconds! I learned that from a fellow who worked on the giant wind turbine blades. They have to be within millimeters and believe it or not they would use some kind of industrial superglue on the fine edges of the blades and rather than waiting for it to harden the 30 minutes just sprinkle on the baking soda and it chemically reacts with the glue and then they could fine tune small imperfections with glue and sandpaper!!! Don't believe it, give it a try!

    Control Handle Repair: A one inch wide layer of fiberglass mesh drywall tape, 5-min epoxied down over a lightly sanded surface adds good strength to a temp repair like that. Sand area, Super glue break, drywall tape/epoxy layer, (sand high spots smooth) gorilla tape over the top.

    Mike....you need to learn to weld plastic. It's not hard. You just haver to learn what variety of plastic you're working with to match fill rod. YOu don't rven need to do the wire reinforcement trick because properly welded at temp with the same plastic its going to be as strong as before it cracked.

    After all the right to repair stuff that was cooking for a while it is good to hear someone give JD a hat tip for once.
    As far as that joystick, if the gorilla glue fails sand down the handle a good bit then wrap it with some carbon fiber and good resin. Rinse and repeat a few times, then sand for contour then gelcoat or wrap for comfort. Don't pay Cat's BS service charge for something that can be fixed for less than $20.

  • @josephkrug8579
    @josephkrug8579 ปีที่แล้ว

    From personal experience...super glue is fragile in connections like that, you would be better off either with just the 500lb original jb weld 2 part epoxy and let it harden overnight and/or use a soldering iron to melt in thin metal strips (or youtube search for "plastic Hot Stapler" to see examples) that go across the break in combination with jb weld. The only thing with jb weld, if you do the thorough mixing, it can take many hours to fully cure and harden. Hopefully though the superglue and tape will hold for you to get it to work long enough for a lasting fix. I have also had better luck with that 'uv cure plastic' than with superglue for stress related plastic cracking. ie the uv cure plastic worked to fix my wifes sunglasses multiple times, and superglue cracked the first time she used them after the glue attempt.

    I know your standard reply to everything I post is "think about it" Mike, but top soil is only clay converted by the action of decaying organic matter into something more useful, so when you next have to demolish another small woods, so instead of simply setting fire to it set someone to run a high volume chipper/shredder to break it down into piles of miniscule tiny bits and flakes and mix it all into the clay thoroughly, burn SOME of the wood and mix it in with the chippings as a sort of starter and once all that plant life starts to decay over around two seasons or so you will end up with lovely rich black top soil that you didnt have to buy -.........and a bloody sight less clay to deal with to boot. if YOU dont have the time to do it...tell the customer to then. bags of synthetic fertilisers work ok but cost mucho, yet none of them can match what mother nature herself can do...and for free.
