I have a stone mint st170 low 58 on clock. I’ve owned it for 16 years. Had it stored for the last 12 years. it is still like a brand-new car, no rust or any marks all dealer of paint work. And it’s a top spec ST with the xenon lights heated front windscreen and all electric inside and headlight waterjets
That is precisely the car I am thinking of when I refer to "the best". Well done for thinking right ahead, it's a fast ford and will always be desirable. However very strangely, I don't know of many ST170 owners who've had the foresight to do something like this. Especially the value of 80's and 90s fast fords.
You've reminded me to check how many of my Rover 25 are left on the road! I'm glad I checked, there's five Impression 3 TD's currently apparently, which, I guess, means 20% of that model left on the road is currently in my garage.
So sad! I've just replaced the blower motor on my own Focus this morning, first bit of work I did myself to this car, little bits to keep it going! Would love to fix the paint someday. It's in decent nick compared to the unloved examples but the paint on the front bumper is starting to peel... Don't know why, I feel so tempted to trade my troublesome Mondeo In for another MK1 Focus 🤔
That might be a wise move as long as you find a good solid MK1 :) Laquer peel is cosmetic as long as it's a functional solid car that's the main thing!
I am a big ford fan and i love the mk1 ford focus i have owned my mk1 for 13 years now and It's so sad that there is not many mk1s left on the road the banger boys are not helping.
Indeed. Still one of cars of choice in the banger racing up to 1600 cc class and to a lesser extent the 2 litre class ( now mk1 mondeos are running out). At the November Spedeworth 1600cc banger world final at Ipswich where qualifiers had to take a fresh car, of the c. 300 car overall entry, the event photos online show that there were c.100 freshly built Mk1 Focus' racing 😮 fifty of which 5 door hatch, 33 were 3 door hatch , 13 estate and 4 were 4 door saloon. Thankfully it looks like mark 4 and 5 Astras are starting to become most commonly used and presumably more readily available now. I guess many of the Focus's raced may have been in racer's stockpiles, but some may have come off the road in the last quarter. And that's just one meeting (albeit a major one) in a busy racing season across many tracks in the UK .
That is a deeply upsetting picture you've just revealed. I didn't know that one meeting could involve so many examples. This cannot be sustainable in a few years at that rate, which coincides with my figure of 2 years for a slowing of the rates of decline.
The banger boys sadly do not see the view point of preservation, if they did banger racing would not exist. It's very sad but eventually the supply will exhaust.
Anyone know how many 1.8 petrol Ghia left on the road? I've got an ex-UK model in the Republic, and it's the love of my life. It was first registered in October 04, and for its 20th birthday, I intend to lavish some TLC on it, and bring it back to its original condition. My son has a 1.6 Centenary (no. 49) which was, sadly, written off by an absolute tool in a SUV a few weeks ago. We're in negotiations to get it back and rebuild. There can't be many of them left, I'd have thought.
ULEZ. All the Mk1's were manufactured to comply with superior EU emissions standards and they all do it. But they are super-taxed by Sadikh Khan just because they are not registered with an official piece of paper saying they are EURO 4. They pass all the tests and were designed to pass EURO 4 before it was a thing. They went on sale compliant with these standards. If a car passes an MOT that should be good enough. Sadikh is a tyrant.
Actually it can be but what I've seen is many are being displaced outside of ULEZ, and my figures are not suggesting a sharp increase in Diesels vanishing, it's pretty steady.
@@Drew-DastardlyYou can technically apply to ford for a certificate of comformity if the original tested nox emissions was low enough for ulez and then submit that to tfl to apply for ulez exemption as it's not strictly required to be euro 4 to be ulez it's only based on the nox emissions. The channel MEC-TEC did it for his old ford puma and got it ulez exempt
hi Andrew no mention of the sport tdci numbers?..also alot of the mk1s are being accident damaged at being catalogued as cat b breaker only.seen a few very low miles ones with minor damage having to be scrapped.
I didn't mention them because of all the models at this time I couldn't be certain of my figures. I will give a proper number in May when I'm 99% sure. No point giving information I know isn't accurate.
Hearing 2000 petrol manual LX mk1 like mine completely go 😲😱. Glad planning keeping mine in as good condition possible. Mind you it makes it more special. Shame the numbers are going off the road quicker as a percentage 😢 I think I got my mk1 at the right time. I wonder if I didn't buy mine whether whoever owned mine would still have it now? 🤔 Another great video 😁👍
I'm afraid so... the likely answer to your question is probably not. There's many of them bought to be a good 2nd hand model. It's a lottery for the cars too, some of them will find good homes. Others won't.
I'll be able to answer that in May when yearly stats are out. But... it won't be definite be arsed the changeover happened over half way through 2001 :)
@@usuallyfixingtinkeringyes, I can understand why. Along with the grille and rear spoiler, they are worth transplanting (chrome-tipped back boxes rusted). They were originally planned for the ST according to the rumours back in the day, however that model was delayed until the mk1 facelift so they launched the ZC instead. It would make sense as the Ka Collection (2000+), wasn’t a ‘sports’ model. That just had body-coloured bumpers and few more interior upgrades as standard. When I had mine FFZC, I searched for the Collection side skirts, but they were impossible to find. In the end I bought EGR ones, which were semi-official as some dealers were fitting the EGR kit.
Add one Mk1 Focus to your list. I personally imported my brand new 2002 ‘SVT’ from Florida 😎back in 2006. Currently on 82000 miles. Ps: think it will need a new clutch soon 😔
@@usuallyfixingtinkering You’re welcome, 🙃 the only new car I have ever bought! When I decided to leave the USA 🇺🇸 after many years, the Focus would also leave with me, albeit in a container, with my personal items. 🌴🦩🍊
@@usuallyfixingtinkering Nothing that exciting really, the car is basically an American ST 170. 🙃 170 bhp Zetec engine. Seen a couple of SVT’s advertised in the US, for around $10,000…..which is nice.

being a 1.8 it will be in a minority and being a ghia very much less than 1000, towards 500 without my stats on me!

Impossible to tell as they were registered as Zetecs on the Logbook, so are counted in the numbers of Zetecs.
