    This dealer is local to me, I've friends with a mass of issues who've purchased from them. Exotics and imports listed all over the internet from them. Good Catch P!

    If the accident never gets reported and the repairs are done half ass by a hack shade tree mechanic, then yes, it would be true that there would be no Carfax reports. Carfax only gives you what is reported.

      With cars like this, no shade tree mechanic would be able to get the parts. The prices are way too high. Additionally no insurance company would work with a shade tree mechanic.

      Michiganborn1969 The dealer also assures "no paint work". Who can't tell when paintwork it's been done? Obviously they are misleading on purpose

      plenty of reputable shops dont report to carfax. There is no incentive for them to do so. They dont make any extra money for doing it and they have to pay someone to sit down and data entry the information into carfax.
      Also not all work is done under insurance, some people pay to fix their own vehicles.

      SPOT ON MAN, SPOT ON!!!!! I can't stand seeing that a car has a clean "CARFAX report"! Means nothing to me. One of my stupid ex-girlfriends learned that the hard way when she thought she made a good purchase, and in turn it was the dealership that was laughing their butts off, all the way to the bank with her money. She got screwed, the car had been in a total wreck in the southern states, had a clean CARFAX report, but yet the whole front end of her car was rebuilt by some mom-and-pop place using aftermarket parts. And it was a total hack job!!!! She wasted over $20,000 on a wrecked vehicle, but she said she I was wrong because it had a clean CARFAX report. I think we lasted about 3 more months after that!!! What a piece of...........

      I bought a used car that had a terribly repaired door panel. It stated no accidents. It had been a lease. I guess they bought that car damaged and they fixed quickly. A friend of mine bought a 2016 Hyundai with 16k on it. Was very nice condition. Now the paint in the left rear quarter panel has the bondo breaking off. And that car was bought at CarMax! Maybe we should bring a magnet to test the metal to be sure next time

    I bought a 2016 Lexus Rx350 F-Sport and when it was getting delivered to the dealer it got the right fender scratched and later replaced before being put for sale and later I bought it. The dealer didn't disclose that it got its fender replaced. So basically I never suspected anything till I got the Lexus app and it told me that the car got its fender changed. Thanks Lexus app.

    Unless you prove both VIN numbers are the same then you can't prove that they are the same car just based off pictures.

      its true. but this is a very special car, another one to go up within a few days of him seeing it with the same year,package,mileage,listed in same area cant just be a coincidence. I sold my 04 blue sti and can tell in 2 seconds if its mine or not (saw it back up for sale 2 times after i sold it on craigslist)

      +Jason 56 bullshit kiddo. Its not a special car. A ton of them were made. And used car dealers in PA get most of their cars from auctions down in Texas so you have no idea where it came from unless you get a carfax. And the carfax will show any accidents also.

    • @yellow2000SR
      @yellow2000SR 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      False. CarFax isn't something required to be reported to and a lot of dealers and shops DONT. Also, cash-paid fixes don't get repaired frequently.

    Just because a carfax is clean doesn't mean shit. You still have to look at the car to check for repairs and damage. Not all accidents get reported and not all police record accidents and most body shops don't bother either.
    Dealers aren't stupid. If you noticed the damage then their mechanics did too. So most likely they bought it from that guy for much less than he was planning to sell it to you for. I wouldn't be surprised if they paid less than half of what they are asking for a clearly flawed vehicle that they can claim to be flawless.
    That's why dealers love Carfax. You would think that something like Carfax would make their life miserable. But it actually works in their favor because it makes customers think they have more information than they actually do. The dealers can then use that against them like in this case. "Hey, the Carfax is clean, so you know it's in good condition right?"

    I once drove 4 hours and 30 minutes for an 2005 IS300. They were asking $8000 so I called them before going to make sure they had the Carfax and whatnot. The website states that it had one owner and only 80,000 miles with no accidents. When I got there I inspected the car and it seemed okay for the most part. I asked for the Carfax and apparently they lost it. I was so mad... On top of that since the car is over 10 years old the mileage is exempt so I was pretty much getting ready to blindly buy this car if it wasn't for my friend. He did a quick search through the Carfax website and it showed over 3 owners with 216,000k miles from the last time it was sold. On top of that it was in one minor accident. I confronted them and they were quiet for the rest of the time with nothing to say. 4 and a half damn hours back home of disappointment yet relief lol. An hour later I go back to their website and I noticed they took down their listing. Be careful out there guys some dealers can be extremely shady.

I used to sell cars in which I learned the hard way but this is just disgusting.

      ....as long as paint doesnt peel or clearcoat bleed its fine and think your bitter because you got outbid....i would be more upset if i got a mechanically screwed up car rather than cosmetics...you could always buy a loaded camry with the works and clean odometer and still save money on 50k....but where is the logic in that?

    My friend tried to buy a car from ebay once.. the price seemed to good to be true, and of course it was. The story was that it was a Soldier or Airman who was stationed in Alaska and had been sent/ PCS'ed to Spain so of course he had a mediator whom would get the job done on his behalf and handle the financial matters. They were having a real time at the moment conversation by email, and luckily i was there and asked my opinion as she is younger and not much experience in life. Had her ask how he planned to get the car to her and if he would be driving down thru the area or something, at the time he said no that he was unable to because he was in Spain and his friend would handle the details, saying that the military would ship the vehicle to the nearest airbase of his choosing by plane depending on where he sold the car at and that once the payment was cleared the car would be shipped. At that i told my friend that it was a scam, as the military didn't ship cars to where a Military member wanted to just for the hell of it and even more so it was a scam because they didn't ship cars by plane? The military would ship one vehicle per member to their PCs destination as long as that tour of duty allows for personal vehicles to be kept. So i told the seller it was a deal and i would only pay in person.. after that we cut off communication and let him continue to email for days and waste his time wondering if we were still gonna do it.. thats as much revenge you can do in a situation like that..

    You do not know why the car was painted. It may even be the case that the selling dealer doesn't either. Perhaps they do and are not saying. I do not know them so, unlike you, I would not say. If both Carfax and Autocheck are clean, and if they do not know the history of the car, it could have been painted for more than one reason. The only thing they are "guilty" of, as far as I can tell, is exaggerating its condition which, incidently, private party sellers do CONSTANTLY. For them to mark it up additionally, regardless of the amount, is nothing more than "capitalism" and, if their asking price is fair (which I am NOT saying it is), then big deal. You certainly don't have to buy that car but you should allow someone else to make up his or her adult mind regarding whether or not to. An intelligent buyer, which is the only person who should purchase such a car, can discern that for himself or herself.

    • @sthr2110
      @sthr2110 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      iTheGeek I think that no one here has enough information to draw the multitude of conclusions that have been drawn thus far. I think that this particular dealer may or may not be "shady". I am in no way affiliated with them so I cannot actually say. In the end, though, ebay and local laws often do offer significant buyer protections and anyone exercising their due diligence should investigate this purchase with his or her head firmly removed from his or her ass.

      Dealers inpect the vehicle. I worked at a dealership in college and I can assure you we had all kinds of ways to inspect if a car had any paint job or body change. They are in the business of buying and selling cars. Don't be so naïve to assume that they didn't know it had been damaged. Besides, I PERSONALLY have seen ads from this very dealership before and would never buy a car from them.

    • @GreyCobra
      @GreyCobra 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Therichest Not all dealerships do. The one one I work at doesn't inspect them at all unless the person buying the car also wants to buy an extended warranty for it. I'm glad to say I work in the service department, not the sales department.

    • @sthr2110
      @sthr2110 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Therichest I am not being naive. I am saying that we do not know enough to draw certain conclusions.

    • @therichest3974
      @therichest3974 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      But knowing the business and them being in the business to make money it is almost certain they would view, and inspect the car, at least before placing it for sell. Any professional dealership (Person or company doing this for a living), should know the condition of a vehicle they are selling. I'm not talking about it being a lemon, but stating it hasn't been painted when even a normal person can see it visibly shows to be (In person) then their ad is not 100% honest.

    What does it say on the Carfax and Autocheck though? The "stealership" goes off of what the Carfax says. If the car has been in an accident and not reported to insurance, then it will not report on the Carfax. With all the panels you listed that had been repaired would be at least a couple thousand dollars on the cheap side, why wouldn't anybody use their insurance? Carfax protects us the consumer by offering a carfax buyback guarantee if it was in an accident and not reported...

      Killer Car Dude a dirty car fax will destroy your cars value. On something like that it would depreciate 10k. It cost a lot less than 10k to fix it up and sell it for under value. In most cases, if you have the money it's best to never call insurance and fix the car yourself. Just don't do a half assed job. You can be like an open book and state your accident when selling and it won't lose as much as having a red mark on the car fax.

    Dude, I don't know why you're so surprised. This is how car dealers/small re-sellers have been working for decades: they buy cheap shit @ actions, fix it and sell "like new" to an idiot who doesn't understand cars. It's just a nature of used cars. To buy a nice car, you'd need to go through a lot of shitty cars and dishonest people until you find one. It took me about 2 months until I found mine. I just took my time and finally got it with low mileage, perfect condition and a very nice price.. from a private owner. If you look, you will find one, especially with that much money you're trying to spend.

      TIMOSHINA...I agree that the best car purchase is from a private individual. However, having worked at 3 different car auctions in central Texas, I have seen cars in wonderful condition being sold...cheap. Auctions have several levels of accountability in car selling, but most of what they sell are trade-ins in good condition, with some crap thrown in.

      I own one and will tell you why.
      They have poor value and aren't worth that money charged. They are OVER engineered vehicles and they are usually sold or traded in once warranty or lease is up. They have a ton of parts that can fail and are ridiculously expensive to fix and if you are a mechanic like me, they are VERY difficult to fix.
      and with that said..
      They are very hard to re sell and most people do not want to bother with them.
      Do not get me wrong. I love my AMG, but if they were not well maintained prior, you will have a heart attack of a bill.
      This is why Japanese cars, Honda ( own one ) and Toyota are the best selling cars ever and have a VERY high resale value. They are EXTREMELY well built, VERY reliable and super cheap to maintain and WILL last FOREVER.
      Makes sense?

    I was buying a Chevy Uplander from dealership in Abingdon VA. Salesman said nice local one owner, clean Carfax, never been had any work done to it. I was buying it but financing was delayed so let me take it home overnight to try it out. That night auto rear door stopped working. Told them ...no problem it probably a relay we'll fix it. So after signing all the papers. Went to pick it up he said there's parts missing from the door it's been wrecked and half fixed. Told salesman" we we had no way of knowing that cause Carfax was clean but you've already purchased the van". went back to take the van and service dept guy said what! we fixed this van here. After lengthy discussion with main manager they finally offered the take it back or pay half of the $700 they would charge to fix it.

    I have a question, how do you know it is the same car. If it is the same car, and the paint job is as bad as you say it is, then that dealer violated ebay policy. Ebay policy is that what ever item your selling, you must post pictures of that exact item. Unless you note that in the listing and on the pictures that those pictures are not of the actual product. Also them only making 40%, that to me doesn't seem like a rip off, you figure that they paid out 36k for it. So that is 36k that is tied for lord only knows how long. As for the zero accidents, if car fax says there is none, which would be done if after the crash they did not go through insurance, and the guy trading it in does not tell them that. Then as far as they know, there were not accidents. This why you don't but thinks like this off the ebay. Any one who is dumb enough to drop 40k on some thing they did not first physically see in person, needs to be taken out back and shot. If I am dropping 40k on something, I'm not sending to some random person off the internet, for a product that I have not physically seen.

      VIN. And like the guy says, the car has had cosmetic work. Pictures won't show the flaws as sometimes it is even hard to see in person. The front of my Accord was repainted and looks flawless 95% of the time, but in direct sunlight, you can see a slight shift in color. My car is worth 6k so who cares, but on a 40-50K car, it is completely unacceptable. :/

  • @scottyas209
    @scottyas209 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    If the original owner had it fixed and the body shop did not report it, then they have plausible deniability. Second, the fuck is a brake stain? I detail, professionally, as in paint restoration not a quick coat of wax.... My details are about 22-24 hours, and I don't know what you're talking about with "brake stains" but whatever.... Quite a few imported vehicles are repainted before they even hit the dealer, things happen in shipping and the vehicle sometimes needs paint work, guess what, not on carfax.... There are quite a few things packaged into a dealer's cost over what they pay. As someone else on here said, negotiation wiggle room, dealer prep, which, can be a small amount, or large (these vehicles have to meet a certain safety level in regards to windshield cracks, or lack thereof, tire tread, condition of the brakes) and on these vehicles, that adds up very fast. I have an older AMG, and it's thousands for brakes, that's just pads and rotors, and that's buying them on discount and doing the labor myself. There's also the cost of having the vehicle sit on the lot, dealer insurance, they keep gas in them, they keep them clean, cost of the building, lights, employees, etc etc. It's not cheap to run a dealership, unless it's a hole in the wall one man type of thing. Now, I'm curious as to your conclusion of the paint being poorly done. Was it a bad match color wise? Was there a difference in finish in regards to the clear coat? Was it blended poorly? Did you measure the thickness? Were there things that weren't supposed to be painted oversprayed on? What was it?

    I bought a 2012 Acura TL from a dealership in Connecticut two years ago. The car fax and other car report had no issues and the dealer gave me a copy of the reports.
    I got hit while sitting at a red light the first day I owned the car by an old woman. Barely any damage, but I brought it to my auto body guy. The next day I got a concerned call to come down to my autobody guys shop immediately. I get there and he tells me every single panel on the car was repainted except for the passenger side front door, the rear quarter panel was welded back together, the radiator support was welded back together, the hood trunk and both drivers side doors were replaced and the paint job was done so badly that it was basically 1/4 the thickness it was supposed to be when it was slapped back together.
    Basically the car was in a totaled accident and it was never disclosed. Keep in mind the car was leased before I purchased it which means it was owned by Acura its entire existence.
    I called the dealership and ripped them to pieces. They ended up taking the car back and getting me into the exact same car with less miles for the same price. They are complete scumbags, and it is insane to think that getting hit the first day i owned the car was actually a godsend.

      I was thinking the same thing. Having a clean carfax does not prove anything, it just makes it less likely. It doesn't seem that the original seller came out and was honest about the accident to you, why do you think he would be honest with the dealer he sold it to either?

    • @Executiveinvestments-
      @Executiveinvestments- 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +S Saini Thats 100% false. All repair shows are required by law to report the repairs to carfax. Insurance has nothing to do with it.

      THE BOSS well if the vehicle has been in an accident and there is an insurance claim it will show up on Carfax unless the insurance has a non disclosure policy. Even a police report can show up on Carfax.
      Sometimes repairs made without anything being reported to carfax, that's probably the best scenario most people don't want to lose money

      like i said you dont know what you are talking about. Every registred repair shop is required by law to report to carfax. Insurance has nothing to do with it. Even basic service and maintainence is reported.

    My brother once found a 350z on auto trader, called the dealer ship confirming it was there. He and my father drover 2 1/2 hours to go test drive this car. They show up and the dealer says they JUST sold it. It was gone. He then goes on to say " Oh but we have a similar car over here you might be interested in." it was some sort of infinity. So they left and drove 2 1/2 hours back home. My brother goes online to check auto trader, and see's that 350z re-listed by the same dealer, with a price reduction! He called to call his bluff, and they played dumb.

    Bought an e46, second car. I agreed to buy the car and the guy calls me 10 minutes later. "just got the safety and emissions test, want to transfer ownership this afternoon?" didn't think anything of it (second car after all) until 29 days later when all 4 brakes went. Like we're talking the pad was completely gone, the metal pad backing scraping on my rotors. Looked at the safety/etest certificate, the mechanics name and signature was missing. Appeared as though the guy had literally printed it off at home and filled it out himself. Ended up replacing pads then sold to a dealer for a small loss as it appeared to be in excellent shape

Cant prove that he actually saw/inspected it, which is critical for this accusation And even IF he did see it, why would another 'dealer' list it for more $$ in flawless condition if it was so fucked up? case closed

    A few years ago I went to GALPIN to check out a 2014 Audi A4 with only 24,000mi on it. I didn’t know as much about cars as I do now, but I wasn’t completely oblivious.
    From the start, the salesman looked at me like I was already out of my budget just walking in the lot.
    In the front passenger footwell was the Bluetooth adapter, and when I asked the dealer “what’s that thing?” He said it’s what mechanics use to find codes on the car. “You wouldn’t understand, it’s mechanic guys talk” as if that didn’t piss me off, I politely suggested that maybe the OBD scanner is what’s used to diagnose the car and it’s under my footwell (I was test driving when this happened) not under the passenger footwell where the Bluetooth is.
    Any other question I had for him he’d get on his phone, probably look up what I asked to give me the correct answer. He pissed me off enough to show him that a young, 23 (at the time) year old female COULD afford that specific vehicle. He told me he was only making $100 off that sale. Which isn’t true, they only say that to get tipped hefty. (Dad was a car salesman for a bit so I knew it was bullshit) I told him maybe he outta find a different profession, maybe then he’d be able to afford a car like the one I just got (:
    He fucking hated me lmao
    I took the car home and after finding a few things wrong with it, and to be petty af, I returned the car the next day.
    Fuck you, Teddy.

    This video would have much more merit if you had taken the listed VIN and did a carfax report. It is possible the dealer is just a bad dealer when inspecting a car and if the owner never reported (paid cash for work) the carfax could be clean as a whistle. I know because Ive seen it happen

    my biggest concern about buying a used car now is the risk of buying one of the many flood cars flooding the market. people can't be stupid lazy or greedy when it comes to buying a used car. it is so so so important toupee a trusted mechanic to go over the vehicle from top to bottom. it may cost a hundred bucks but can save you thousands if you get stuck with one of these flood cars. BTW born and raised in Boca!

    • @lovekills9112
      @lovekills9112 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kip Paseo it would be a branded title if it was a flood car. Both carfax and autocheck have buy back guarantees. Rather than paying someone hundreds of dollars just ask for the carfax or autocheck.

    • @chrismc410
      @chrismc410 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kip Paseo better yet, if you have the money or credit, forgo used cars entirely and only buy or lease brand new cars. Yes, way more expensive and you'll take a a depreciation hit but at least you one, know what you're getting into, two, have the manufacturers' warranty and three, a lot more legal recourse if even a new car is a lemon.

  • @Nash1a
    @Nash1a 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    When I have a problem or spot someone blatantly lying on ebay I just use the "ask the seller a question" feature. For instance, "Isn't this the same wrecked car you tried to sell me for $33k?" or something like that. Not sure if they still are but those "questions" used to be public and any buyer could see them.

  • @greggkunkle8539
    @greggkunkle8539 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    so, you were going to pay 1 price, they found a buyer willing to pay more, they sold to that buyer which happened to be a dealer, dealer has to make money thats how they stay in business. you didnt provide evidence that is the actual same car via the VIN number. Also carfax only works if the accidents are reported to carfax. If it was fixed under the radar, its not known. Also I never go by the carfax info put on an auction, i will run my own carfax, its too easy for them to copy and paste a good report for a different vehicle.

    • @marcosdominguez7633
      @marcosdominguez7633 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      okay Gregg, either you missed the point or you seem to love dealership practices, then go pay what they ask for bc that's how they stay in business, and trust them when they tell you there's no accidents on a car and carfax doesn't show any either.

    Have never bought a car via eBay and do not know anyone in our circle who has or attempted. Many cars purchased of different makes and models and have been disappointed with dealerships and service until we met Acura. Purchased a RL 2009 and treated with utmost respect! As travelers to and from Tampa, Florida, Naperville, Illinois, and Plano, Texas we always get car inspection before heading home. Not only were they free but appreciated us stopping and of our safety (hubby ran over a mattress, killed an armadillo, not to mention nicking a stove that fell off a pickup). One trip, one of the fobs died. Replaced the battery for free with a smile and appreciation. May pay a few extra dollars for oil and fluid schedules as I don't trust others. Interesting to hear your experience and from those who have commented especially from car fax. 👍
