San Antonio back in the 60's/70's/even into the 80's was a great town > I say town as the population in the 70s was in the 400k spread out > The inner loop > 410 was a 55 mile drive ... crime was low ... traffic was not bad ...
San Antonio now plain sucks ... it has lost its charm and gained 100% of the things that make all large cities horrible

Yes and no. Local politics can have a huge impact on your quality of life. Right now Democratic politicians aren’t prosecuting criminals, which just enables more crime and encourages repeat offenders. It’s one of the biggest issues across the country right now because George Soros has funded the political campaigns of soft on crime Democratic prosecutors.

The only crime I’ve ran into is people stealing from cars with unlocked doors and heard the people like stealing catalytic converters. I’m from DFW and I adapted ok. Can you give more specifics? Every county outside SA voted red two years ago, climate is the same everywhere, property taxes vary by the neighborhood in some cases, insurance will be a touch higher up on the north side of the city due to higher likelihood of hail but that’s a minimal difference, car insurance doesn’t matter what area you’re in, were too far inland for hurricanes, and tornadoes are extremely rare anywhere around the city.

To each their own but I think when you at the average home price in Seattle being three times the price in San Antonio, the property taxes really aren’t that big of a deal. But glad you found a place you love!

Why would anyone, other than a very wealthy person move here? The culture is about eating and staying overweight... there is no exercise culture because its always so hot, and eating unhealthy mexican food all the time is encouraged. The homeless population increases every year. There never was any homeless people living under the highways like there is now. I never saw tent cities growing up, now you can spot them in pockets all down the highway and inside ditches. The weather is always uncomfortable, humid, always hot or rainy. people are not as nice as the tourists claim them to be, because living here is a different case, people are very unfriendly and dont respond when you say hello. The boarder of Mexico is so close that lots of Fentanyl is being brought here because of this. San Antonio has become so much more dangerous than it has ever been. The only area that is ever talked about is the north side where houses are $400,000 to $600,000. Everywhere else like the south, west, and east side is ghetto, crime ridden or just plain poor and run down. The up and coming, less expensive neighborhoods were making progress with renovations until the pandemic and the homeless/migrant explosion. Now all the progression of putting money into the older neighborhoods has all but stopped, the remodeling of houses has slowed way down since 2019. I honestly do not see San Antonio ever recovering from this. The taxes and properties gets more expensive all the time, and the people in poorer areas have no longer put money into those neighborhoods. There is constant construction all the freaking time, nothing ever seems to be completed because they are always tearing up the freeways every 15 years to "expand" it. The city is just a headache to deal with all the time. Everything is so spread out it takes 30minutes or longer do anything or to get anywhere. Service everywhere is always subpar no matter if its a car wash, a tire shop or a resturant. The bus system is a joke and so is the entertainment scene. Anywhere you go anything you do, you always have to deal with rude unfriendly people at every gathering, every event and every social outing. San Antonio should be a place you try to escape from, not willingly flock to...
