AMC Channel showed Christmas Vacation and other Christmas movies all December. I don't know how many times I've watched it? It wouldn't be Christmas without watching this movie.

I was a kid who had just moved to Japan when this came out. My parents took me to go see it on base. I remember my Mom telling me to go to the lobby during the pool fantasy. I dutifully got up and headed towards the exit. I took a few steps, then turned around and watched the scene. I felt “things” that I had not felt before. I waited a few minutes then went back to my seat. I think of that moment of clarity every time I watch this movie.
I caught myself getting up to make popcorn right at that scene(watched it a few nights ago), purely out of habit without realizing it had just been so engrained into me. I'm normally really anal about pausing the movies as soon as I'm distracted or not even focused, but halfway through watching the popcorn in the microwave I realized I left it playing, and it all clicked in my mind lol
After watching this movie with my family, my dad picked up a cement squirrel and put it under our tree every year. This movie always makes me think of my dad.
I love this movie brings back so many memories. I love it when Chevy was messing with the lights, that reminded me of my dad every year when he decorated the house. I remember when we first watched it together and he busted out crying laughing at the sledding scene. God I miss him.

I just watched this, very nostalgic and I think back of the days when it was not required for both parents to work in order to feed a family. Also the concept of the “Christmas bonus” lmao completely non existent in today’s world. Nice to look back when the American dream was alive.

Christmas Vacation was filmed as the same time as Lethal Weapon 2 and shares some of the same lot. Even one of the neighbours house is the same as the Murtaugh house from Lethal Weapon movies.
I LOVE THIS FILM!!!!! It show you what not to do when decorating for the holidays, and preparing to host your relatives, as well. Also, my favorite scene is the one where the cat gets fried.
After revisiting some personal holiday classics, I have happily retained my previous rankings... My personal favorites: 1) National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 2) Gremlins 3) Black Christmas CLOSE runner up - Scrooged. ☃️ I also had a few first time viewings that were very enjoyable; 1972's Silent Night, Bloody Night, as well as 1980's Christmas Evil. Two very underappreciated seasonal horror flicks that were ahead of their time. 🤘🎅 Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals!!!
I have a much greater appreciation for this film since a squirrel got loose in our house. It came down the chimney and began to leap all over the room, climbing the walls, swearing and chattering, darting under things so we couldn't find it - then the CAT got in the act - . It really was terrible! We were almost as panicky as the Griswolds, because we didn't know how the hell to get rid of it. Finally my son came over and chased it out the door with a broom. But it was a really horrible feeling!
My wife and I bought our first house solely because of this movie: it had an attic entry door that pulled down and folded out into stairs. I pulled the Clark Griswold move of hitting myself in the head at least once or twice.
"A Christmas Story, and Cristmas Vacation" are my top 2 Xmas movies ever, followed by a close 3 way tie for 3rd with "Home alone", "Home alone 2: Lost in New york", and "Die Hard" lmfao

This is my favorite Christmas movie. I love the part where Clark is in the attic watching old film of him as a young kid during Christmas and then Ellen pulls down the ladder door and Clark just disappears. Still so hilarious. 😂
His supporting roles in "Orange County" & "Dirty Work" were so fucking hilarious and "Man of the house" & "Vegas Vacation" from 1995 and 1997 had his moments and they were decent and even "Memoirs of an Invisible Man" was interesting and fun at times but I really think "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" may be the LAST truly great hilarious and fun comedy by Chevy chase. He has done many things since this especially also in Community or Hot Tube Time Machine but I really think Christmas Vacation its his last true great starring comedy

Funny story!: When I was a kid and knew nothing about alcohol, I used to think that when Eddie said his daughter was getting cured off the wild turkey, I thought that she had been attacked by a wild turkey and had gotten some sort of disease...
Cousin Eddie was the only other person I had seen drinking a Meister Brau like my old man did. That piss and water was the 1st beer i ever had when I was 10.
Of course the Christmas Vacation is the best one, but Vegas Vacation isn't bad at all. I personally really like that one as well. As far as the music for Christmas Vacation, there are so many great Christmas songs! That Ray Charles song "The Spirit of Christmas" is so good! The original score, and title song is SO good as well! And of course, "Malik Kalikimaka" is great! This movie is a true Christmas classic!

I like to think of these movies as reboots. With the same parents but different kids, and not really much references to the first 2. Having different titles instead of Vacation 2,3 its European Vacation and Christmas Vacation. So back then if you didn’t see the first 2 it wouldn’t be necessary and you could just go in and see this and not be lost.
I remember seeing it on opening night in the theater. Honestly, it never hit the mark for me. I always loved the original vacation movie, but I felt like Christmas Vacation changed both Clark and Eddie’s characters from semi-realistic into full blown cartoons.

Vegas vacation was fun to watch as a kid but as an adult it's terrible. Christmas Vacation will always be a Christmas classic.
