    I have suffered from anemia due to my heavy periods. I'm 39 and started using the patch. It's done WONDERS on my body. I don't know how I could miss out this great quality of life on the patch ALL THESE YEARS. For starters, my periods are shorter and lighter 🥳 I'm pretty sure my anemia is getting better, I have more energy, and I don't get as hungry or / get cravings in the evenings . 🙌🏻

There has been time when I forget to change the patch for a day or two and I did not get pregnant-do not do! But overall, it’s a great birth control method to try despite some itchiness sometimes from where to patch is located.

    Switched to the patch from having the arm implant (Nexplanon). I REALLY wanted to love the implant but my experience with it.. the cons outweighed the pros. Starting the patch I IMMEDIATELY stopped spotting (something I had dealt with on the daily with nexplanon), I lost even more weight (I was 135LBS starting nexplanon, after 2 years of being on it i weighed 125LBS when I got it removed, now I’m 120LBS being on the patch), also I knew my libio was low while on Nexplanon but I never realized it was THATTT low. I feel like a whole new person lol.... also my breast size grew a whole cup starting the patch. Haven’t dealt with any of the common side effects I read about like nausea, headaches and cramps. Aside from tender breasts, I’d say give it a go. Everyone is different, could be right for you :)

I have always eaten healthy and maintain 1500 calories or less intake on daily bases, and I work out at OrangeTheory 2-3 times a week, and I am still gaining weight! Girly I know you didn't ask for my unsolicited advice but your input reminded me of my past self. I apologize if I accidently assume anything incorrectly. For context, I lost my virginity a month before I turned 21 (I am now 24) and since I was already on the pill, I felt bold enough to lose my virginity to a random guy from Tinder. Yikes. I would love to encourage you to wait for a loving person and not engage in hookup culture if you can. If I could warn myself back when I was your age I would. I took birth control for a hormone issue originally but then I got reckless. Life happens and I learned lessons along the way. Wishing you all the best ❤ I guess I was frustrated at waiting so long and getting made fun of by my peers that I had developed an "all or nothing" mentality that was super destructive from many points of view. If I could tell myself back then that it's okay to wait I would. It may seem like common sense but back then I was bored cuz it was during the initial lockdown. Not my proudest moment. Just my random 2 cents I know you didn't ask for. Good luck on your birth control journey 😊

    I just started and I’m on my second week of the patch and my acne was a little bad then it cleared up but all of the sudden it just got terrible I’m breaking out on my face more shoulders neck and I don’t know if it’s because of the patch or my hormones are just adjusting to it. So I was wondering if anybody had any problems like mine and if it’s normal:) I’m also 15 y/o and this is my first time on birth control. I’ve also been itchy we’re my patch is and just in general. I was wondering if you had any tips for me.

    • @TheLadysGuide
      @TheLadysGuide  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Alison, it is common to experience acne when starting most birth control methods. However diet plays a role as well-particularly foods high in sugar and dairy can worsen acne. It is also common to experience itchiness where the patch is applied so rotating spots helps prevent this. If you experience itching around your entire body this should be addressed ASAP with your provider to make sure this isn't an allergic reaction.

    Im 19 years old and I haven’t been on birth control for about 2 years now because I had a really bad experience with the birth control pills but I’m about to start the patch this Friday and the video & reading some of the comments are really helpful and since I’m about to go back to birth control I’m sure my period will be a bit weird and not used to it but my question is, if let’s say I’m on the 3rd week and I start my period do I keep the patch on still or do I take off right away? Or if on the 4th week I don’t get my period and I start on the 1st week on the new set of patches what do I do? Do I just keep going with my rotation or do I change it up?

    • @TheLadysGuide
      @TheLadysGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Hi Brenda, great question! You are right, your period may be a bit irregular when switching to another method. With the patch, it should be changed once weekly for 3 weeks followed by 1 week with it off. After 7 days of it being off, a new patch is applied. So even if you experience a period while the patch is on, leave the patch on. And if you do not get a period during the patch free week, this is OK. Over time your periods will regulate, usually by the third month.

    Hello!! First off, great work on this video!! It was incredibly informative! and second off, my patch just fell off (would not reattach for the life of me) and so I saw that you should just apply a new one on and change on your regular change day. I change on Saturday so it’s only two days away. If I apply a new one on, and change again on Saturday (I’d be out of patches because I would have to use my 3rd week patch on Saturday) do I just have my patch free week early or should I get a new set of patches and continue with the previously established cycle?

      Hi Alanis! Thank you so much! So place a new patch on and leave it on for 7 days, either abstaining for a week or strict condom use for a week. Then the patch will be effective again and your new change day will be Thursday instead of Saturday. No need to change it after only 2 days, hope this makes sense! xo Deanna

Like example, I put it on Wednesday 1st 7 days patch so i need to change my patch every Wednesday for the next 3 weeks, but how about the 7 days free patch day that ended up Wednesday the last day of week free patch, should I put patch the next day (8th days) after my 7 days week free patch or I can put it on exact 7 days of my week free patch to maintain the Wednesday cycle schedule.

I don't know I kind of feel self conscious because it's so noticeable compared to my darker skin. It's also really noticeable during sex so I wonder if there's a place I can put it where it's not in mine or my partner's sight. Honestly it will just take some getting used to.

I took depo a few years back and it is giving me the same exact side effects. I’m not sure if that is normal. Hi Cesia, a very common side effect that occurs when starting any birth control method is irregular bleeding. This can look like random spotting or getting a period at a time not normally expected. Usually this resolves within 3 months of using the new method correctly, so in this case changing the patch weekly x 3wks followed by no patch on the 4th week. It is always best to check in on your specific situation with your provider as well. :)

    • @TheLadysGuide
      @TheLadysGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Dior Wayyy, the patch is about 98% effective when used perfectly, and drops to about 93% with typical use. If a new patch is applied within 24 hours of when you normally change it then it’s still very effective against pregnancy. Particularly when first starting the patch it’s common for women to experience irregular bleeding and they may bleed while a patch is on. The correct use of the patch is changing a patch every 7 days for 3 weeks followed by 1 week patch free. After 7 days without a patch on, a new patch is applied no matter what. This may mean your period can start into a new month and is fine. If you have more specific questions about your patch it’s always best to talk with your provider.

    • @TheLadysGuide
      @TheLadysGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Bella, it is common for there to be unscheduled bleeding during the first 3 months of using birth control. Also if you see the patch come off, you can apply the same patch back on, there is no need to apply a new patch. Only if you see that the patch is not on and you aren't sure when it fell off, only then do you need to apply a brand new patch. If there is any chance of pregnancy it is always best to take a pregnancy test as well to rule that out.

    Hi there,
    This video was really helpful and I’m probably going to start this form of birth control after I speak with my doctor. Though I am very timid when it comes to forms of birth control due to personal experience with the pill as well as all the horror stories. I specifically worry about my depression being effected heavily. I chose to stop all medications due to the overwhelming process, including my depression and anxiety medications. I have been naturally handling my disorders for a few years now.
    So my question is, how much can the hormones truly effect things such as depression and sex drive?
    Second question, if in some case an emergency contraceptive had to be taken (such as Plan B) how would that work? Or what are your suggestions?
    I am very keen on routine and don’t have many worries about missing any or forgetting to change my patch. But I have not been able to find specific answers for those questions. (Also, I do understand these are also questions I’ll be asking my doctor as well!)
    Thank you in advance!

    • @TheLadysGuide
      @TheLadysGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mikayla, I’m glad you found it helpful! I completely understand your concerns, they are all super real and valid. Hormones can impact things such as depression and sex drive in some people and not in others. Depending on your personal circumstances, lifestyle, stress level, gut health- these all also play a role in symptoms of depression and anxiety. As far as sex drive, the longer you use a hormonal birth control method the more likely it is to lower sex drive.
      For using emergency contraception, do you mean if you were using the patch and then also wanted to use emergency contraception?

    • @mikmaaak

      @@mikmaaak yea so if you took emergency contraception while on the patch it would just be an extra precaution that could possibly cause some irregular bleeding as a side effect. Hi Jonshairika, yes a new patch is applied weekly on the same day but it does not need to be the same exact time.

    Hi, I was wondering if this is one of those products that you can skip a period? Such as put one on every week and not skip the fourth?

    • @TheLadysGuide
      @TheLadysGuide  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Alex, yes the patch can be used continuously which may cause your period to not come but this is not a guarantee-some women will still experience bleeding. It is always best to check with your provider that this is safe for you specifically and that you do not have any increased risks factors to use it continuously.

    Hii, So i had a heart surgery 11 months ago and I’m currently on blood thinners (lisinopril). I’m 17 years old, would the estrogen and such affect my blood or something?

    • @TheLadysGuide
      @TheLadysGuide  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Arlette, estrogen containing birth control is not advised in anyone with certain heart conditions or clotting disorders. It's always best to check with your provider which birth control option would be safest for you. There are progestin only methods that may be better suited for you. Good luck!

    I’ve been using the Evra patch for 7 months and recently I left the patch on for 1 extra day by mistake so I took it off and my patch free week began. I started bleeding 2 days late and usually it comes on the exact day the Clue app predicted and it was very light and mostly brown. Could this be a sign of pregnancy??

    • @TheLadysGuide
      @TheLadysGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alana, your period likely came two days late due to leaving your patch on 1 extra day. It is also common to not get your period on the same exact day each month. Whenever you are concerned of pregnancy it is best to take a test for peace of mind.

    hey! so i’m planning on getting on the patch. i’ve heard a couple people mention the patch helps with clearing acne, gaining and or losing weight. i was just curious to if it was true? those are my two main concerns, i’m not sexually active im just getting in birth control due to my acne

      Hello! I been using the patch for almost 2 years and I can confirm it helped me clear my heavy case of face acne! As for weight loss I didn’t notice any change in either loosing or gaining weight. Another positive things that happened was that it helped me regulate sleep and reduce my flow and period duration! It also helped ease cramps!

      Hi Melissa! Everyone reacts a bit differently to birth control so while some it can help their concerns, others feel it made their symptoms worse. I will say if you are considering the patch specifically to help with your acne there are many other lifestyle factors I’d recommend first. What we put into our body on a daily basis have major impacts on our skin and it’s possible to clear your skin without relying on medication. Check on my Instagram where I share information regarding acne. Also as far as weight gain, this is another side effect that effects some and not others. What typically happens is hormonal birth control has the potential to increase hunger which can cause weight gain if not eating healthy foods.

    hi!! so i was reading some stuff on the patch and it may increase your risk of blood clotting, strokes, heart attacks, etc. and i don’t have any bad medical records of any of those things so should i be worried about those side effects??

    • @TheLadysGuide
      @TheLadysGuide  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Emilee! Yes it is true that these are risk factors for the patch. I recommend you watch my video about birth control pills, specifically starting at 6 min and 44secs that discusses the risks. The combined hormonal pill, patch and ring all have the same risk factors. Typically if you are overall a healthy person without other factors that would increase your risk then it is generally ok to use the patch. Here is the link to my video: th-cam.com/video/mDn42T9Pjlo/w-d-xo.html After you do your research always make sure to review with a provider to make sure you are safe to use this method!

      Hi there, in the US the patch is prescription only as are most other countries. It should be used consistently changing it weekly even if you are only intimate a few times in order to be protected.
