That match felt like the hardest final boss with broken character in real life. Relentless offense with pressure of performing your best at the biggest stage and being just one step away from becoming a champion. That was one of the most hype moments I witness in a street fighter match. You did your best and I have mad respect for you for that.
Punk, you do realize that at 12:09 , Tokido just baited you to dash under the neutral jump so he could do a medium kick on the way down. You sent him to losers by dashing under his neutral jump air fireball and catching him on the way down. Tokido just learned to not make the same mistake, was nothing broken about it.

This match reminds me perfectly of the Tokido - MenaRD match. Outside of the two players being very good, feels like both people who lost their grand finals, didn't have solutions (in their heads or hands) to counter the offense, and get hit by things they couldn't even comprehend or anticipate, from lack of training against the character/player. A bit like those Abigail vs Zangief vanilla match up.
This match was my first time witnessing punk, he looked serious af and would have never guessed he talked like this😂 just didn't go well with that image I had in mind.
This is very interesting to see your side of the story. Everyone knows Tokido's incredible loser run, but people tend to forget that you did an overwhelmingly dominant winner run. When grand finals started, everybody thought you'd win. I'm a Tokido and Akuma fan, and even I thought something like "Tokido made a great run back to grand finals but he's never gonna win this". This was, for me, the best Evo top 8 I've ever seen

Its amazing when Punk explains the game. I'm a complete novice and don't even touch the game, but it's a game of chess. You got to think of all the possibilities before he acts it out. So when he comes in with a jump I think medium kick is the gold standard isn't it? Cause your medium kick in the corner is either going to land or not but you got a chance to block or reset.

Even though punk put tokido to losers, he still play a very aggressive akuma. Shows how much confidence he has even he has lost to punk previously plus he’s in losers as well. Punk still have the ability to win tokido just that I feel his mental state isn’t there. Most of the time punk is dropping into tokidos rhythm. He’s right that he should pause awhile and go into select menu.
I was getting into fighting games around this point but wasn’t too interested still it was my first time watching evo/tournament I watched from top 8 to grand finals my eyes were glued to the screen the whole time after everything was done I got hooked into fighting games ever since thanks to you and tokido for my favorite fgc moment
Akuma back in 2017 is 100% the reason why I didnt wanna play SFV and why I still am relatively new to it now because its alot more balanced for the most part now, than it was then. God I hated this game back then lol.

Not to mention just a LOT harder to deal with cause they could be incredibly random back then, for huge damage potential. Karins always limited to a certain window, which is what has mostly kept her in check, she's just a brawler.
@@christop3 hey I agree that his damage output is huge. but his health is equally short to be fair. he is a glass canon. you know the reason why theres so many karens, kolins, ibukis, rashid and cammys back then? because they play sturdy safe and got tons of long range, advancing normals, quick pokes and low frame forward moving specials to whiff punish or shimmy. and whiff punish and shimmy is really by far the most important aspect of the game. of course they got weaknesses too like anyone else. akuma has the demon flip and air fireballs for pressure but generally his specials are super basic and easy to read, his normals are stubby with no range, his buttons are simple and he has the least health out of the entire roster. one wrong EX dp can easily cost you a round or bring you into the critical zone. thats why nobody wanted to pick up akuma because pretty much everyone in the FGC didnt consider him viable for tourneys. hey, Im not saying he is garbage but he really isnt more broken than any of the cast. he has lots of short comings and fact is pro players analyzed the whole roster and deliberately avoided akuma and thats why you find like 2 akumas in the top 100 of evo 2017 and a whole bunch of karens. tokido is the only player at that time who absolutely mastered a considered low tier, unpopular character to the point that capcom had to nerf him. being “random” is sth anyone can do including karen. I love punk but he is clearly talking out of his ass and being salty here. tokido wasnt “random” he was in punks head and played a hyper aggressive rush down on his karen after punk beat tokido and send him to losers earlier in the tourney. punk didnt know how to deal with it. he whiffed when pressured taking lots of unnecessary damage and simply had no idea how to get space with tokidos constant rush down pressure. the demon flip, one move wasnt the reason for his loss. point is they both beasts. that day tokido was better and won fair and squade. punk is young blood he got lots of time to grow and he also beat tokido at the run back. no nerfed akuma, same exact match up. this match up really isnt the worst for karen or akuma. sorry for the long wall of text but since you said you new to sf5 I wanted to share some input as someone who plays fighting games like an idiot since the 90s. that doesnt mean Im right, opinions are opinions but maybe that background knowledge helps you see it both ways.

Rashid ibuki etc id agree with but Karen's ultimate weakness is always having her offense shut down because she has to be able to get in. All the other chars have a projectile, Karin doesn't. Projectiles allow setups. Karins completely geared towards counter play. I understand where you're coming from but Rashid Laura Akuma Kage and Kolin have way more going for them than Karin does lol.
Man I remember that match....back them you make yourself the badguy in the FGC teabagging everyone (because you OUTPLAYED EVERYONE, we all got played out by your character and deny how talented you where, my bad back then) but man I hated you for that XD, you become the official heel of the FGC back them, so when Tokido show that Akuma was mad hype, nobody was prepare for that level of Akuma, after that Tokido dominated that year, barely loss only at Capcom Cup, because MenaRD happen, but man Tokido show how broken Akuma was, nobody could blame you for lose there, anyone would have loss there....the 3 who actually give Tokido a real match where you (the only one who actually beat him, sending him to losers), F Champ who probably did the best match of Evo vs Tokido he with his Dhalsim and Itazan who also almost take him out but Tokido fight back. That was still a great Evo, probably my favorite of the SFV era, you did amazing don't feel bad about it, specially with Akuma who was secretly BROKEN and was here where everyone find out XD.

Starting this match back then I was exclusively a Tokido fan. This is what put Punk on my radar (not that he was unknown, I just only paid attention to akuma players in sfv) and I couldn't be happier for that.
