I see the negativity you receive from some people but what I can say for myself is that I love to see EVERY video you put out. Coffee is a passion for me, the amount of time and effort you put into the production quality of your videos is something everyone should be able to respect, I respect your opinion and value the content and information you put out. I myself have an ECM Synchronika with Flow control and love the tactile feel of it and I’m able to pull the most amazing espressos with it. I work at Dune Coffee Roasters in Santa Barbara and if you’re ever looking for a road trip we’d love for you to stop by! Keep up the great work👍🏽
I have had the Lucca X58 HX with flow control machine for over a year and love the hands on manual work flow. This has powerful steam for my Cortados. The X58 does include the Quick Mill Pulsar to even out the flow from a vibration pump. I'm not sure about the Solo. I use a silicone funnel to fill the water tank and a ceramic cup that I flush into rather than into the dump tray. I will also say , Clive's After Sale Customer service and technical help is first class.
Glad to hear you've had some longer term experience with Lucca machines, plus some after sales support. I've had a couple of them on the bar and generally been happy with what they bring to the table, granted they tend to be modified versions of other machines, but the mods seem to improve upon the base units.
I just pulled the trigger on the X58 last night and can’t wait to get it! Hopefully it’s a huge upgrade over my Breville Infuser which lasted 10 years! Between this and the new DF64, I’m looking forward to a more hands-on workflow!
I have used a Quickmill Vetrano 2B Evo for about 9 years every day. I absolutely love it and quite appreciate the hands-on aspect of it. The Zen aspects of it make for a fully engaging experience. Quickmill makes great machines that are all stainless steel, not powder coated steel for the chassis, which really matters. Thanks for the great honest review.
I own one. I use it everyday. I am not a milk drink person, so I don't mind having a machine without a steam wand. It is a solid performer and built well. Worth it for espresso and americano's.
When you said "...and whatever else your little espresso-loving heart desires" I wanted to give a like, but I couldn't. I had to undo the already existing like and like again.
I hate computer espresso machines so e61s are my jam. The issue with this one, and the ecm puristika, is the picepoint. They should be seen as an entry into e61 and priced under 1k.
Well that was a very diplomatic way of saying that this is essentially a pointless machine that might have some nice features but an equal number of downsides.
Clive Coffee definitely deserves credit for choosing the less known, but very capable La Spaziale as their first Lucca model. All critique should be addressed to Quickmill and any other traditional e61-based manufacturer. It's 2025 almost, and yet they are selling 60 year old technology. Want the look of an e61? Fine. Keep the design of the e61, but use a thermojet to heat it. Add a potentiometer to the lever (ask Tate Mazzer for help) and you have pressure control. Add sensors all over the machine and have an app to record that in the background. Looks identical, but heat up time is down to 3 minutes. Use the app only if you want to.
@@joachimemand1687 yeah I think the E61 still has its place, even in its classic form. I do think though because the patent expired, and how widely available parts are it’s very easy for manufacturers to go that route. I’d like to see more do some R&D and being more group tech to the market, but that also means consumers have to be willing to foot the bill for that R&D and to a certain extent be early adopter/beta testers.
@@simonmonty7171 It's the same machine internally - we changed the portafilters and brew lever to walnut instead of plastic and swapped the single spout for a bottomless. The Solo also includes a wood and steel tamper.
I love the tiny footprint. It seems like a well-built option for someone who rarely makes milk-based drinks, or who uses a frother to take care of that.
Nice machine overall a little bit overpriced but at least it’s not filled with plastics like new La Marzocco Micra or Mini R that literally use plastic for their structural frame to which everything is bolted! Even the brew boiler on Micra is held in place with plastic! Even a Rancilio Silvia has a stainless steel frame now and costs 600€…
if you're going to play with a lever and knob ...might as well be big one lol....think I'd still prefer Odyssey Argos for tactile work flow ( if you can get your hands on one) ...just replace wand with cap if no milk drinks
@@jeffjones6667 for sure, I get that. And I’ve wrestled with the thought of buying an Argos, but I think for a spring lever machine I’d want something a bit bigger. That’s why the Cremina has sort of fell off my short list too, on top of all my tools and baskets not being compatible.
Great review. It’s a pretty cool machine. Single boiler E61’s always seemed like an interesting solution since you don’t have overheating water recirculating through the E61 the way it would in an HX machine. That said, for the price, why not get something like an ECM Classika and get basically the type of machine(single boiler E61, small footprint etc) but also a steam wand for occasional milk drinks? Seems crazy to me to buy a machine that has a built in boiler but no steam wand.
@@Sprometheus Well someone is sensitive lol it was not a negative comment for your information. Here is the truth though and a real reason to get mad if you were absolutely searching for one. The recent format of most of your videos seem to be focused on cashing out on third wave water or any sponsor in the easier way possible. I was debating this machine before I got my Profitec pro 400. Great review!
@@MD-th6lj can’t really go wrong with a Profitec either. I’ve had a couple come through to review and been happy with what they’ve offered.
For thouse who are looking for something comparable outside the US - ECM Puristika - comes with external glass water tank.
Cool little machine.
I would definitely use this in my office just to pull shots throughout the day.
But I think I would only pay up to 1k.
Thank you my friend. ☕️

When are you going to get a Slayer?
When you use the TWW Espresso, how do you dose it? The regular amount or half?

Agree fully on the market and who it would appeal to.

@@Sprometheus wish vectis wasn't 2k ! or a lower priced horizontal actuated group head like san remo you, paddle if you will flow control
Seems to be a cheaper alternative to the puristika. But it’s a lot of coin to not spend on a steam wand or at least ECM standard build quality.

Because the ecm you named is much more expensive?
I’m happy with my Flair 58 over a complex E61. Unless you’re doing back to back espressos, but who serves only espressos for a crowd? 😂
