Overconsumption is not the biggest flex of all time. You’d think by now these brands like beauty blender and tarte would know better. They’d know that spending a gross amount of money to accommodate wealthy people with established followings just makes the people they want buying their products resent them.

@@erikad0511the thing is giving an influencer product is essentially free; beauty products cost CENTS to make for big businesses. So their profit loss margin for gifting insane amounts of product vs giving even a "small" donation like $1000 is huge.
Not to say I disagree. Businesses would just not do that. I HAVE seen influencers take sponsorships and request that their fee go toward a donation; the Welsh Twins specifically come to mind!

I have mixed feelings on the Cartier gift. On one hand, I think it’s really nice of a brand to positively recognize somebody that positively recognizes them. On the other hand, I think Mikayla is totally undeserving and she is disingenuous.

I work for a nonprofit that takes care of women and they asked me if I could help get them some makeup so I've been reaching out to all these cosmetic companies (mainly drugstore) to see what they would be willing to donate and so far I've been turned down by everyone. Its all "hey babe, we love your cause and what you do but we are only donating to (insert 1 singular popular nonprofit) byeeeee" then I go online and see brands sending over gross amounts of products to singular people. It's so frustrating because I can clearly see that they CAN send stuff but they only want to do it to people that they find worthy.
As if they don't have enough product to send to multiple organisations! In fact, them sending stuff to your non-profit would help them and make them seem like they care. That's absolutely terrible of them. Hopefully you do find brands that are willing to support your cause

How about we start holding the brands accountable for their gross, wasteful and out of touch decision-making. It’s such BS that sending a mass amount of product to an influencer is going to lead to big spikes in sales. No one is looking at that video thinking omg I need to buy a beauty blender immediately. Thanks to their “marketing”, both tarte and beauty blender are on my no buy list.

My daughter in law is good friends with a beauty influencer that had tons of products. So much that she invited all her friends over to take whatever they want. My daughter in law doesn't really wear makeup so she got me a bunch of stuff. I appreciated it so much. My daughter in law couldn't believe the amount of items that companies send her friend.

It's a funny little play on Deepak Chopra (who're probably familiar with as the New Age Alternative Medical Guru), but yeah, Grishan specifically depots and organizes for artists by long standing appointment only. It's brilliant really. DM doing a collab is awesome and makes me move the brand items up my wishlist even higher.
I'd really like to see a brand donate their products. A lone of women's shelters get donated makeup that is already used and has to be thrown away. A bunch of makeup being donated to different shelters or donated to lbgt+ teen shelters, etc. That would be cool, too.

I think one thing I find frustrating is that large brands that are supposed to stay updated on trends and social responses chose to work with two influencers that are HIGHLY despised/contested. Like, do they not stay up to date enough, do they align themselves with these influencers, or do they think the profit will outweigh any bad press?
I hate to say it, but they make the brands thousands of $$, so it makes sense to the brand marketing team…
Any press is good press. no matter how much hate this generates, the likelihood they still come out of this quarter with more sales than less is almost guaranteed

My fav moment as someone who has a friend who works for an influencer marketing company is the "I don't know who sent this omg 😱 so nervous," ... As if they aren't told by their company that they are dropping merch. Most influencers have companies who take care of the PR packages, their contracts etc so the influencer doesn't have to give away their address and have 20-50 packages delivered to their home every day. They have a company taking care of those, my friend herself takes care of this stuff. 😅 It's all so fake.

I’m doing a case study on Mikayla this semester at uni where I’m analysing her marketing strategies etc. and my god I’ve never been so invested in an assessment.
The first tea with glamzilla and beauty blender screams minimum order requirement hahaha (meaning to get a custom embossed they had a minimum amount and they were like, fine just send it all to her anyways) hahahaha
that matthew guy is so annoying. why choose mikayla specifically? she’s not really known for tanning, it’s not her content. I believe it was solely marketing for him. He knows she gets a lot of bad publicity and can use it to his advantage. I’ve seen many creators that don’t really like her but will say that they understand and know that brand videos and reviews can take months especially an UNPAID ONE. that’s their income, i don’t blame mikayla for not putting it priority. it’s not a blush or eyeshadow that she can just sit down for 5 mins and try it on, its a FULL BODY tan that she has to take the time to apply, let sit and then wait for the next day to see the actual results. If she’s super busy i can see why an unpaid review can keep falling at the end of her to-do list when she has actual paid jobs lined up. Nobody made him take out a 10,000 loan, he’s a big boy that makes his own financial decisions.

I used to love watching beauty content on youtube so much. It was so fun and inspiring, now i remember why i havent bothered in about 5 years.
At first, I did not understand why the influencer was upset about Manny reposting her content. But after she explained, I totally get it. Good for her for speaking up.
It takes mere minutes to simply ASK someone before using their content. These influencers think they are above everyone else and don’t need permission
To be fair tho a lot of times you’re asking to be reposted or noticed by a brand when u link their social medias and stuff, I’d just keep my video up and ask for some form of compensation or something else since she got his attention anyways

The last girl is delusional. When you create content and tag a brand/product, you are already doing free marketing for that brand, and unintentionally selling that product for them. However, I DEEPLY dislike the fact that the brand didn't ask permission to use her content and I especially dislike Manny is acting like "fReE eXpOSure" is somehow a valuable asset in this oversaturated market.

My argument regarding reposting content is that it's a double edged sword. First off, I'm not sure why she would routinely tag the brand if she didn't expect a brand to see it and repost it. Yes, it's never a good idea for a brand to repost content without the person's written consent. That's a rookie mistake but aside from that, what was she expecting? The double edge sword comes in to play with people expecting a portion of sales when a brand re-posts them. Sure, you can make the argument that the brand is making money off your hard work and I totally agree that's not fair, BUT when you open those doors, then it becomes perfectly fair for brands to come after you for using their product in your video if you make any sort of revenue. It becomes a very messy situation for everyone.

Most organizations wont allow employees to accept gifts at all or over a certain amount because ot doesnt look good for the business or can leave a negative ethical reputation because it leaves room for suspicion of favoritism, influencing decisions, etc.
Keep this in mind when watching influencers give reviews for the companies that send them gifts outside of products to test and review.

I refuse to buy from mainstream brands because of how they all advertise. ‘We love you’ is just weird and blurs that boundary. We’re watching influencers being bought off one by one and the original love I had for the beauty community (for the unbiased reviews and real life swatches etc), has entirely disappeared.

HAAUUUGE miss on glams part. She should’ve found some smaller creators and sent them around. Then those videos would’ve gotten traction etc and it could’ve been SO much good PR for her and for the brand and then a collab maybe… hugeeeee miss.

I used to love the makeup channels and stuff. For the past year I haven't been in it. It's so removed from reality. I got tired of having to get a new pallet every other day and this new viral trend and so on. I have three pallets now and that's plenty. I have no common ground with any of these people and I just no longer engage in it. I pop over here now and then to get some tea and that's it
$20/blender... way to piss people off .... they arent gonna get positive anything. Especially when i paid $44 total for 3 BB sponges, and blender cleanser....all 3 were molded before use.
I have a theory that all these influencers have meetings to start drama in the same time period so tea spill has to fit like 50 different feuds in a 15 minute video😂 like they have you working on overtime
And on the Manny thing, if someone on his team reposted it w/out consent of her & him, then likely the same team members ignored her messages. Do we know the shoppable option was made aware to Manny also prior to his response? He should have reviewed the content b4 the reply but with the same sort of idea maybe he didn't know, irresponsible yes, but hopefully he will follow up/rectify this appropriately. As he himself said, he is also an 'indie' brand but has had the boost and support of a larger social media following.
The problem of these brands is that they always 'keep promising' to help a social influencer. Brands, especially on IG, have been requesting any negative reviews be taken down. Brands that repost your content have been really negative. If you are a micro influencer they think you SHOULD be overly grateful for the repost and leave it at that. I've had a brand experience where they asked for the original content and I ONLY gave them one with the watermark. They went ahead and tried to block out my watermark by cropping the reel. Stand your ground!!
