  • This week I can't wait to share my latest dressmaking projects with you including a Tilly and the Buttons Indigo dress - why did I wait so long to get on this band wagon?! - and a super easy to sew wrap maxi skirt. I've already worn both handmade garments multiple times and am in love with the fabrics. Two styles I've admired from afar for such a long time and I'm so glad I finally took the plunge. As usual I'll share my thoughts and top sewing tips on fitting, sizing and construction too.

    While I'm not a huge fan of the Indigo dress your version is beautiful, that fabric, well I just love it. As someone who was a teenager in the 70's, I can tell you it is very much a 70's style. I probably made something very similar back then. Wrap skirts are my favourite style of skirt, they are so easy to wear. I have worn wrap skirts since the early 80's. One of my favourite wraps skirts I made 20 years ago for a high
    school reunion and still wear it at least once a year. It is a timeless look. I like how you styled yours with the leather jacket and the ankle boots. Great vlog as usual.

      Thanks Jennett, I absolutely love 70s style, it must have been great being a teenager in those days. Thanks for your kind words they inspire me to keep going with the videos.

    Both so beautiful. Great tip for turning the ties! You are so right about skirt fabric and colors. I love the shade of the Fall sky against orange leaves. But then that blue in there adds a springy vibe too for warm weather. Love things that are multi seasonal. TFS!

    Love the fabric on the indigo dress. Looks good on you. Not my style at my age and stage and body shape... lived thru the 60s so i have no need to repeat clothes I wore then. Same goes for maxi skirt...once worn, twice shy.

    This is so very close to what we called "tent" dresses of the sixties, except we didn't have the gather under the bust. In the seventies this style was very popular, especially with pregnant mums, but of course we had three lengths: mini, midi and maxi... plenty of choice and so comfortable 👍😊

    I love your indigo Lucy. I wasn’t that enamoured with mine which I lengthened and added a frill and side ties. I’m not sure why really. It feels really voluminous. I wonder whether to try again and just make it knee length as I like so many others. All your makes are lovely. I like to see how to easily style things but I get really cold so need to think how to keep warm! It’s mainly a top layer apart from a leather jacket to keep my legs warm.😆

    • @SewEssential
      @SewEssential  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Ruth, I can't remember if I mentioned it but I did shorten mine by 2" after singeing the fabric accidentally! Maybe whip one up in a cheap toile fabric to see if you prefer the shorter length. I know what you mean about keeping warm, I'm the same, but don't worry too much with evening wear because I'm only ever sat at a table in a restaurant these days and never standing in cold queues for nightclubs.
