    I'm 30 seconds in and not seeing gas grass and tranquil toes in their own separate "Terrible" tier physically hurt me. Gas grass is a pain to farm and traquil toes are literally useless: they only provide decor and can only survive in freezing cold environments. So unless you plan to have your great hall at -5ºC i wouldn't recommend. Best use for the tranquil toes is feeding the seeds to pacus

    If you don't use chlorine for gas grass, then saltvine farm powered by a chlorine geyser is a crazy source of sand. Using part of the salt they produce to geotune the geyser, overclocks the system to absurd amount of sand. S-tier for me, but i'm just a sucker for sand (i almost exclusively use pwater for O2 production). :)

    Hold on a second. Grubfruits are probably the best as far as food goes. Grubfruit preserve is BBQ quality with very long shelf life, and the spiced version don't required freezing for infinite storage time.
    They are also incredibly efficient, since you can use wild grub grubs to apply +50% free bonus. They use a resource (sulfur) that basicly has not other uses.
    They main drawback is that they aren't used in more advanced recipes, so you're limited to +3 quality, but that's hardly a problem in normal games. I'd rank them better than sleet wheat even, but they definitely belong to tie S at least.

    Something I like also about Wheezeworts is the radiation they put out… but not for the usual reasons. Turns out rads are pretty good at killing germs, so I usually try to build a little overflow pit from my bathrooms that drop germy water in there inside the rad radius when the tanks get too full. When the germs are dead from their rad bath, automation turns a pump on and off it goes to be used again in the base.

    For dreckos, I feed them mealwood to get plastic before oil, which makes mealwood more useful, and balm lily less useful (at least until late game, when I have more plastic than I can use, and might need more reed fiber for insulite). And one pip ranch with wild trees produces enough free dirt to support two drecko ranches, which is all you'll want if you use starvation ranching. You can stick 40 dreckos in one ranch (20 of each is the most a drop-off will do), and they won't even starve, since crowding makes them eat 1/5 the food, and the ranch normally supports 8.

  • @sagebshaw
    @sagebshaw หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    I think the decorative plants are misplaced. First of all, decor is way less important than food. Second, even if you want decor, they aren't free since they take up space. Every mirth leaf takes up the space that could have been a statue or a painting. Their best use is to make nature reserves, but even then I'd prefer the thimble reed.
    Generally speaking, I feel like you have too much stuff in the S & A tiers.
    Fun video GCF!

    Mushrooms, spindly grubfruit, and mealwood can be wild (pip) planted in flower pots with no resource requirements. That means you can easily create very compact farms that require no interaction, great for rockets or bases on other planetoids. Mushrooms can be upgraded to fried mushrooms and mushroom wraps, making them, imho, a staple crop both early and late game.

  • @LucasBorchs
    @LucasBorchs หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I played my fair share of cold planetoids and the Tranquil Toes actually are very nice for early game decor (Great Hall, Rec Room, etc.), since they can help until you stabilize your temperatures and start using the Joyas.

    i will say that tier lists are difficult to work with on any game that has tons of variables, like oxygen not included. i do have some mild disagreements and thoughts with a few things.
    1. nosh beans. the nosh beans are really easier to work with over the sleet wheats, due to the low freeze point of ethanol, and thermal capacity being lower over water as well. also, how useful they are will be dependent on what map gen is chosen. players may choose a map gen with ice cores and other frozen biomes, which only benefits cold plants anyway.
    2. saltvines. some asteroids do not feature salt biomes, but do feature rust biomes. this creates a potential issue on asteroids early on. having a chlorine vent ensures that the rust deoxidizer can function, providing oxygen and iron ore. also, salt in a rock crusher is sand positive, insuring operation of critical things on asteroids which are regolith and sand deficient.
    3. gas grass. brackene is unique in that when it is boiled it produces brine as a product. creating brackene is not efficient by plants, but it is really strong with moos. with this in mind, chlorine vents can be linked to water production on alternate asteroids that don't have water sources. also, gassy moos have as much meat as voles, making them strong for BBQ production.
    4. oxyferns. temperature management, pluming, and large construction projects are problems with spoms, along with a mild water to O2 inefficiency. oxyferns are not only good early game, but they can maintain great value late game, by removing those issues. the seed issue is hefty; however, more can be found on other asteroids to make up for this. due to their simplicity, they can be used for asteroid projects outside of the starter asteroid.

    Wheezeworts can also be used as an energy free gas pump in the right conditions, specially useful to create vacuums.

  • @Tamizushi
    @Tamizushi หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    For me mealwood is S tier because I'd rather optimize my drecko ranching for plastic production than fiber. With starvation shearing, you get plenty of both in the end, but it's easier to use a gigantic amount of plastic than of fiber. Most tiles and ladders can be replaced with plastic tiles and plastic ladders to reclaim their raw mineral and to speed up dupe movement.
    Also mushrooms are S tier IMHO because quiches awesome.

  • @owenstoddard6464
    @owenstoddard6464 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I'll advocate for bumping dusk caps up to S, perhaps pulling bristle blossoms down to A. The only other use for slime is in the algae distiller, so dusk caps effectively use 4/3kg of algae and 8/3 kg of polluted water per cycle. This is far less than the 20kg of water for bristle blossoms and even less than the 5kg of salt water for waterweed, making them very efficient for water use. Plus, cleaning most polluted oxygen sources into clean oxygen supports very few dupes, while feeding pufts instead can produce enough food for many more.

  • @belladonnaRoot
    @belladonnaRoot หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I've never liked bristle blossom; they take water and power; they're relatively easy to come by, but are also resources that directly compete with more dupes.
    There needed to be a D tier, for plants that you should never really farm unless you're going completionist. Gas Grass and Bean Sprouts belong in it. IMO C should be reserved for plants that are not worth it most of the time, but do have their uses; things like the sporchid, saturn critter trap, and salt vine

  • @vectinator7605
    @vectinator7605 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I do think it would be nice if you could process harvested gas grass into gas hay bales that could then be fed to Gassy Moos. It could be put on the top two layers (put them in windows) of a wild farm with sunlight and the plant could be useful.

    I would put all the decor plants down a grade or 2. Once you can build sculptures they can replace 99% of the places you might want to use these plants, not to mention every map has more granite than you will ever need. I use plants only 2 places, on a spaceship in the bedroom (save space) and in the first 50 days in a massage room if i build one. Other than this I find them completely useless and feed them to fish.

  • @darkehartplays

    What I think isn’t mentioned is how you can combine balm Lillie’s with mutations like licey to get upkeep free meal lice. These plants all have many interesting interactions with mutations which I think should be mentioned and I also think wild farming vs domestic should be separate tier lists due to how important the upkeep is when evaluating plants.

    • @GCFungus

      I did cover the useful balm lily mutations in its Plant Tutorial Bite, and I still don't think they're great on balance. You are definitely right that splitting it by domestic and wild would be interesting.

  • @arigatoespacialsuperadmiti7316

    Nosh beans aren't that bad. They are more complex tough. Due to the fact that even wild ones need water input to be eaten. They require extra power for distillers and are reliant on arbor trees as it's the only way to make ethanol, as well as their lower temperatures, they use less water than sleet wheat and bristle blossom in total, even including the tofu requirements. It can use the polluted water hot wasteproducts even with germs as it goes to the trees. I would have to test how space eficcient they can be domestically with their necessary infraestructure vs wild x4 requirements but one distiller will grow 15 plants and give the polluted dirt to be composted. One uses either 7.2 wild trees or 1.8 domestic ones so I believe it's better to use wild trees and domestic plants. I do believe the sleet wheat can be more straightforward in many situations but I see clear advantages in nosh beans too. Once I saw a forum about how tofu gave 1600 kcal for 6 beans but that's not true anymore, not it gives 3,600 calores wich makes it a lot better. In my opinion they are next to sleet wheat and bristle blossom since I see how they can be included with industrial processes. The water can come from bathrooms and generators and you can turn it in stuff just below burger.

    saturn critter trap -> mid B because who needs free hydrogen on most playthroughs?
    spore chid -> low B because you can easily satisfy your decor needs with simpler options
    oxyfern -> high B because i usually went with rust on the playthroughs where they seemed a bit usefull in the very early game
    muckroot, hexalent and swamp charred heart -> low A tier because they don't spoil and so make for an excellent stock of emergency food and are great during the early game when digging out the map
    tranquil toe -> mid C tier because urgh so unnecessary
