@Harrison Lee It is indeed a good point. Just because two things are similar doesn't mean they're the same. Christians pray to their God; pagans pray to their gods. Christians baptize by immersing in water; ancient pagans practiced ritual cleansings with water. Pagans worshipped the sun; Old Testament prophecy called Christ the "Sun of Righteousness" (Malachi 4: 2). Even if it could be proven that any Christian belief or practice was taken from paganism, it means little. Paul addressed this issue in 1 Corinthians when tackling the question of whether it was permissible to eat food offered to idols. In short, he said not to worry about it because idols by definition are false gods and thus have no power. Offering food to a false god does nothing to it because a false god can't consecrate food, or anything else for that matter. The same principle would apply to any alleged "paganism" in Christian traditions and doctrines.

Exactly!! Western Christians unfortunately have no church fathers😔 So they end up ignorant on history that predates the denomination that was created and the earliest in the 16th Century. I’m very lucky as part of Assyrian church we study all Fathers and Martyrs. Similar to the Book of Martyrs by John Fox that the Puritans placed secondary importance along the bible and religiously studied, so do Assyrian Christians, and we Martyrs of all Christian back grounds to include William Tyndale.

Does a Christian need to believe in the Trinity to be saved? And if so, why did our Savior, nor the disciples, ever teach the doctrine of the Trinity? Why would Christians give credence to a council of men coming together to argue who God is (The Council of Nicaea in 325 CE), and thereby seek to define God? Can mankind define God? No, God reveals Himself to mankind. 1 John 5:7-8, The Johannine Comma is an interpolation according to Christian scholars (words added) to the Bible by over-zealous Trinitarians, who wanted some testimony to the Trinity, due to the fact that in the Bible there is none. Matthew 28:19 has come under suspicion, a commandment allegedly given by Christ to the disciples, but the disciples only baptized in the Savior’s name only, as demonstrated in the Book of Acts. The early church historian Eusebius, wrote (published circa 316 CE) in his book, Matthew 28:19, that Christ actually said, "Go and make disciples of all the nations in my name" (Eusebius, The History of the Church, p. 68, PENGU1N CLASSICS, 1965). The Trinity has only really existed since the 4th century. Historian H.G. Wells factually stated, "There is no evidence that the apostles of Jesus ever heard of the Trinity-at any rate from Him" (The Outline of History, Vol. 2, p. 499). Martin Luther is quoted in a sermon saying, "It is indeed true that the name 'Trinity' is nowhere to be found in the Holy Scriptures, but has been conceived and invented by man" (The Sermons of Martin Luther, Vol. 3, p. 406, 1988). It is time that the false Trinity Doctrine cease to exist in Christianity! Catholics and Protestants agree that “Whoever will be saved: before all things, it is necessary to keep the Catholic faith… unless he keeps this faith whole, he will perish everlastingly...And the Catholic faith is this: we worship one God in Trinity” (Catholicism, p. 69, 1961). Protestant professor of Theology James White, states, “The Trinity doctrine is misunderstood as well as ignored. It is so misunderstood that a majority of Christians when asked, give incorrect and at times downright heretical definitions of the Trinity” (James White, The Forgotten Trinity, p. 16). According to James White, around 75% of Christians, who think themselves to be Trinitarians, are actually Modalists. Modalism: One God who at different times represents Himself in three different modes of being: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. If belief in the Trinity doctrine is so critical to our salvation, then why did Christ and the disciples not preach the Trinity, which historically developed over 300 years after Christ? To say that one must believe in the Trinity in order to be saved, when Christ never stipulated the doctrine as a prerequisite for salvation is the grossest form of legalism! The man-made Trinity Doctrine is so ingrained into the imagination of Christians for salvation when Christ and the apostles never ever taught it, that many will actually stand condemned for believing in the Trinity according to the Tradition of men, and not of God. Christ warned us about teaching doctrines without one thus says the LORD! And He...said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men…” He said to them, “All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition” (Mark 7:6-9). Christians do not need to believe in the Trinity in order to receive salvation and eternal life in the Kingdom of God! If Christians needed to believe in the Trinity in order to be saved, then it would be taught in the New Testament by our Lord and Savior, and it, the Trinity, was not taught in the New Testament. The Trinity is a useless Doctrine based solely on the misunderstanding of men. It is time for Christians to free themselves from the doctrines of men. The Son of God declared: “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM” (John 8:58). YAH is the meaning of I AM. By this statement, Christ told the Jews that He is their God, the very God of Israel. Not to take this statement as true in that He, the Son of God, is lesser than His Father and God is tantamount to calling Him a liar. Based on everything presented here, the statement by churches that one must believe in the Trinity in order to be saved is the highest form of legalism. But doesn’t Elohim prove the Trinity, after all it is plural. No. Elohim means Gods. The Trinity is the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Ghost is God, and yet not three Gods [Elohim], One God [Eloah, or EL]. The true definition of Elohim is the God of gods (Deuteronomy 10:17).

"'In what did Second Temple Judaism consider the uniqueness of the one God to consist, what distinguished God as unique from all other reality, including beings worshipped as gods by Gentiles?, the answer given again and again, in a wide variety of Second Temple Jewish literature, is that the only true God, YHWH, the God of Israel, is sole Creator of all things and sole Ruler of all things.
While these characteristics are by no means sufficient to identify God (since they say nothing, for example, about his goodness or his justice), they are the features which most readily distinguish God absolutely from all other reality. God alone created all things; all other things, including beings worshipped as gods by Gentiles, are created by him. God alone rules supreme over all things; all other things, including beings worshipped as gods by Gentiles, are subject to him. These ways of distinguishing God as unique formed a very easily intelligible way of defining the uniqueness of the God they worshipped which every Jew in every synagogue in the late Second Temple period would certainly have known. However diverse Judaism may have been in many other respects, this was common: only the God of Israel is worthy of worship because he is sole Creator of all things and sole Ruler of all things. Other beings who might otherwise be thought divine are by these criteria God's creatures and subjects."-Richard Bauckham, biblical scholar

"...Whereas the inclusion of Jesus in the eschatological sovereignty of God is found in all the New Testament literature, his inclusion in the work of creation is less widespread, but is found in 1 Corinthians, Colossians, Hebrews, Revelation and the Gospel of John. Since it is of less direct relevance to most of the concerns of the New Testament writers, this is not surprising. What is noteworthy is that in three of these cases (1 Corinthians, Hebrews and John) the purpose, in my view, is precisely to express Jewish monotheism in christological terms. It is not that these writers wish to say anything about the work of creation for its own sake or even that they wish to say anything about the relationship of Christ to creation for its own sake, but that they wish precisely to include Jesus Christ in the unique divine identity. Including him precisely in the divine activity of creation is the most unequivocal way of excluding any threat to monotheism-as though Jesus were a subordinate demigod while redefining the unique identity of God in a way that includes Jesus. To illustrate the point, we shall examine the earliest of these texts: 1 Corinthians 8:6. This passage in its context reads:
'Hence, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that 'there is no idol in the world' and that 'there is no God except one.' 'Indeed, even though there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth -as in fact there are many gods and many lords -but for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and we for him, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and we through him.'
Paul's concern in this context is explicitly monotheistic. The issue of eating meat offered to idols and participation in temple banquets is an instance of the highly traditional Jewish monotheistic concern for loyalty to the only true God in a context of pagan polytheistic worship. What Paul does is to maintain this Jewish monotheistic concern in a Christian interpretation for which loyalty to the only true God entails loyalty to the Lord Jesus Christ. He takes up from the Corinthians' letter (at the end of verse 4) the typical Jewish monotheistic formula 'there is no God except one' in order to agree with it and to give, in verse 6, his own fuller monotheistic formulation, which contrasts the 'many gods and many lords' of the Corinthians' pagan environment (verse 5) with the one God and one Lord to whom Christians owe exclusive allegiance.
Verse 6 is a carefully formulated statement,
      a. but for us [there is] one God, the Father,
      b. from whom [are] all things and we for him,
      c. and one Lord, Jesus Christ,
      d. through whom [are] all things and we through him.
The statement has been composed from two sources, both clearly recognizable. One is the Shema`, the classic Jewish statement of the uniqueness of God, taken from the Torah itself, recited twice daily by all observant Jews...It is now commonly recognized that Paul has here adapted the Shema° and produced, as it were, a Christian version of it. Not so widely recognized is the full significance of this. In the first and third lines of Paul's formula (labelled a and c above), Paul has, in fact, reproduced all the words of the statement about YHWH in the Shema` (Deut. 6:4: 'The LORD our God, the LORD, is one'), but Paul has rearranged the words in such a way as to produce an affirmation of both one God, the Father, and one Lord, Jesus Christ. It should be quite clear that Paul is including the Lord Jesus Christ in the unique divine identity. He is redefining monotheism as christological monotheism. If he were understood as adding the one Lord to the one God of whom the Shema` speaks, then, from the perspective of Jewish monotheism, he would certainly be producing, not christological monotheism, but outright ditheism. The addition of a unique Lord to the unique God of the Shema` would flatly contradict the uniqueness of the latter. The only possible way to understand Paul as maintaining monotheism is to understand him to be including Jesus in the unique identity of the one God affirmed in the Shema. But this is, in any case, clear from the fact that the term 'Lord', applied here to Jesus as the 'one Lord, is taken from the Shema` itself. Paul is not adding to the one God of the Shema` a 'Lord' the Shema` does not mention. He is identifying Jesus as the 'Lord' whom the Shema` affirms to be one. Thus, in Paul's quite unprecedented reformulation of the Shema`, the unique identity of the one God consists of the one God, the Father, and the one Lord, his Messiah. Contrary to what many exegetes who have not sufficiently understood the way in which the unique identity of God was understood in Second Temple Judaism seem to suppose, by including Jesus in this unique identity Paul is certainly not repudiating Jewish monotheism, whereas were he merely associating Jesus with the unique God he certainly would be repudiating monotheism."-bible scholar Richard Bauckham, Jesus and the God of Israel: God Crucified and Other Studies on the New Testament's Christology of Divine Identity
      John 1:1-5; 1 Cor. 8:6; Col. 1:15-16; Heb. 1:2-3, 10-12; Rev. 3:14.
The 'our' of the Shema` appears as the 'for us' at the beginning of Paul's reformulation.

Another masterpiece of confusion.

But I dont agree with every thing my church teaches even though my dad is the pastor. When i pray i pray to the Father. When i worship i worship the Father and Son. When I say God i am refering to the Father.
      I believe in one God the Father who exists in himself and not begotten and he has been eternally pouring his divine essence (or being) into the Son and begetting (or generating) him {Heb 1:3 and 5, John 1:1 and 18, 3:16, and 17:1-5 and Proverbs 8:22 etc.}. I believe the Spirit has eternally proceeded from the Father and the Son {John 14:26; 15:26}. I believe all three members are fully by nature deity but the Father is above the other two members in command not in deity.{John 17:3}
I believe Jesus is by nature God not by person. I believe he has all the aspects of deity and is eternal. His existence derives from the Father.

The closest thing to the Christian Trinity I can think of is the Trimurti of Hinduism. However, unlike the Christian belief, the gods of the Trimurti are three different gods who are manifestations of the eternal spirit Brahman. Also, unlike in the Christian Trinity, all the persons of the Trimurti have incarnations (but the second person of the Trimurti- Vishnu- has the most popularly known incarnations, i.e. Rama and Krishna). The Holy Trinity of Father, Son and Holy Ghost is a unique doctrine to Christianity.

      Rick OnTheDrums
*Is Jesus God or is He the Son of God ?*
Jesus said that He was not the Father more than 80 times.
While remaining one in purpose and unity, Jesus and the Father are clearly two separate and distinct beings.
On more than one occasion, the Father spoke to Jesus from heaven.
“And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, 'This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased'.”
      (Matthew 3:17)
Either Jesus and the Father are two separate beings or Jesus was an expert ventriloquist.
Jesus “asked His disciples, saying, Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am ?
So they said, Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.
He said to them, But who do you say that I am ?
Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.
Jesus answered and said to him, Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.”
      (Matthew 16:13-17)
This passage says that the FATHER who is in HEAVEN, revealed to Peter, that JESUS who was on EARTH, is none other than His Son.
So what would you say if Jesus asked you who He was ?
Would you say, “you are part of some 3 in 1 god and just role playing a son ?”
Or would you be able to answer as Peter did ?
“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Scripture in fact calls Jesus the Son of God over and over again,.but it never calls Him
      “god the son.”
But how do we reconcile Hebrews and John chapter 1 which refer to Jesus as God ?
These verses have confused many and yet the answer is so simple.
The word God is used in two different ways in Scripture.
Firstly, the word “God” is used to refer to the Supreme Being of the universe who is the ultimate source of all things.
Every time the Bible refers to the one true God, it is referring to this supreme being who is the one that was before all else and from whom all life ultimately came.
In this sense no one else is God.
But the word God is also used to refer to someone who possesses the attributes of divinity, or the characteristics of God.
Since Christ is the same substance of His Father, everything He consists of had no beginning.
His divinity had no beginning, His makeup; His nature had no beginning as it all came from the Father.
So in principle, everything Christ is had no beginning.
If you trace Christ back you will have to go through the Father and you will never get to a beginning.
But His personality as the Son of God began when He was brought forth by His Father.
So Christ is essentially God in infinity but not in personality.
His personality began when He was brought forth from the Father in the days of eternity or days of everlasting.
This is the time before all things were created when there was nothing to measure time by.
So in effect it was only the personality of Christ as the Son of God that had a beginning.
So when we say Christ is God, we mean that He is the same substance of His Father and hence has the same God nature as His Father, but He is not God the Father.
Scripture always calls Jesus the “Son of God,” but NEVER “god the son” as Trinitarians do, and with very good reason.
“Jesus is the only begotten Son of God.
      HE WAS BEGOTTEN, NOT CREATED.
      He is of the SUBSTANCE OF THE FATHER, so that IN HIS VERY NATURE HE IS GOD;
and since this is so “it pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell.”
Col. 1:19 ... While BOTH ARE OF THE SAME NATURE, the Father is first in point of time.
He is also greater in that he had no beginning, while CHRIST'S PERSONALITY HAD A BEGINNING.”
      (E.J. Waggoner, ST, April 8, 1889)
“This name [God] was not given to Christ in consequence of some great achievement, but it is His by right of inheritance.
Speaking of the power and greatness of Christ, the writer to the Hebrews says that He is made so much better than the angels, because “He hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.”
      Heb. 1:4
A son always rightfully takes the name of the father; and Christ, as “the only begotten Son of God,” has rightfully the same name.
A son, also, is, to a greater or less degree, a reproduction of the father; he has, to some extent, the features and personal characteristics of his father; not perfectly, because there is no perfect reproduction among mankind.
But there is no imperfection in God, or in any of His works; and so Christ is the “express image” of the Father's person.
      Heb. 1:3
As the Son of the self-existent God, he has by nature all the attributes of Deity.
It is true that there are many sons of God; but Christ is the “only begotten Son of God,” and therefore the Son of God in a sense in which no other being ever was, or ever can be.
      The angels are sons of God, as was Adam (Job 38:7; Luke 3:38), by creation;
      Christians are the sons of God by adoption (Rom. 8:14,15);
but CHRIST IS THE SON OF GOD BY BIRTH.
The writer to the Hebrews further shows that the position of the Son of God is not one to which Christ has been elevated, but that it is one which He has by right.”
      (E.J. Waggoner, CAHR, p. 11-12)
“For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;”
      (Colossians 1:19)
Why does “all the fullness of the Godhead” dwell in Christ bodily ?
Because Jesus is the firstborn over all creation (Colossians 1:15), and being brought forth from the Father, He has the same “divine nature” as He is the same substance as the Father.
John 5:26 also tells us that the Father gave life to His Son.
“For as the Father has life in himself; so has he given to the Son to have life in himself.”
      (John 5:26)
If Jesus had always existed alongside the Father as the Trinity doctrine claims, then God could not have given life to His Son as He would have always had life.
But Scripture reveals this is impossible.

Adam 1984 all that to say, and just one scripture to refute it. Of course there are many more but. I will focus on one. John 5:17,18.
But Jesus answered them, "My Father has been working until now, and I have been working." 18 Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.
Jesus was teaching that he is the Son of God. The Jews clearly understood this to mean equality with God and for that the Jews sought to kill him. Son of God =equal to God.
So your interpretations of what your scriptures say are incorrect.
Let scripture interpret scripture as Philippians 2 explains John 5:26 perfectly, in that he humbled himself, temporarily left his glory and came in the LIKENESS of sinful man. Thus, the Father gave to him all he would need.

The Bible states that Jesus is God, the Holy Spirit is God, and the Father is God. Thus you can make the inference that this is what makes up the Trinity, just because the Bible doesn’t say the word “trinity” doesn’t mean it isn’t factual. “Trinity” is the term to define the relationship between the three. We know God is “omniscient” by way God is described in the Bible, yet the word isn’t in there. They are the terms used to refer to what is stated and described in the Bible.

YHWH set the standard for declaration of His identify throughout Bible history - 'I AM YHWH YOUR GOD...'
That being said, there are no such declarations made by Jesus anywhere, and in all of Bible history.
Likewise, nowhere in scripture is Jesus ever identified as the Most High GOD, the only true GOD, GOD Almighty - but moreso, and when the title of given onto the son in power, we find that the son is identified as a God with a GOD above Him - just as it was with His forefather David, and who was seated upon the very same throne.
And so contrary to your claim, the Bible does not 'state' that Jesus is GOD, and the Holy Spirit is GOD and the Father is GOD - but moreso, the Bible reveals that there is rank and order within GOD's divine ruleship, and that He alone, is at the source of all things, and in-contrast with Jesus who is not the source, but in subjection to said source.
And finally, what you are referring to as the Holy Spirit, is in-effect GOD, in-that GOD is a spirit - as-is, GOD's divine will carried out through agency.
That is why we can survive sinning against Jesus, but not the Spirit.
That is also why, we can say without a doubt that the Spirit and the Son are not equals.

They forget all false religions and created gods are inspired by Satan through the which he seeks worship. Therefore, why is it a surprise to many that paganism almost, but not completely, resembles the identity of the True Living God? Most of the time is triad in these cases...Where did they get these ideas if not from the being that was once in Gods presence and desired to be like God?

Daaaang IP, you sound really frustrated in this video. I would be too if I was you. Guess we can both sympathize with Saint Nicholas when he punched Arius. ;) I like your points. To be honest with you, I kind of like the facts that Plato and even Hinduism had a concept of God or some divine triad. It tells me God has been discovered, but it wasn't until Christianity where full revelation was revealed. I think the God of the Hindus could actually be the true God, but interpreted in a Hindu way. Same with Zoroastrianism, and if you know the Bible, they had a good relationship with the Jews after they basically rescue them from Babylon. This i s not just for the trinity, but for monotheism in general. Socrates is said to be a monotheist. Probably the first monotheist in Greece, and he had no influences! He was killed for not believing the traditional Greek gods. God has been discovered, but interpreted in ways that cultures could understand. Even the early Israelites did it when being henotheist. But, eventually God has been revealed in the fullest by later Judaism and Christianity. I like the Neoplatonist conception of a divine triad. The One the Nous and the World Soul. It was influenced by Christianity, and some of the ideas Plotinus had for it are interesting and can be compatible with Christianity. It has been said that it was not Christianity turned into Greek philosophy, but later Christians turning Greek philosophy into Christianity. What was compatible with Christianity in Greek philosophy, the fathers used it. They could see such concepts as somehow revealed by God, or discovered about God in the past before Christianity. Saint Justin Martyr even calls early Greek philosophers as, "Christians before Christ."

For those wondering what the early Church Fathers taught regarding the deity of Christ. They absolutely taught and believed Jesus Christ was the one same God as the Father and the Holy Spirit.
    1. Ignatius of Antioch (c. 50-117): For our God, Jesus the Christ, was conceived by Mary according to God’s plan, both from the seed of David and of the Holy Spirit.
    2. Ignatius (c. 50-117): Consequently all magic and every kind of spell were dissolved, the ignorance so characteristic of wickedness vanished, and the ancient kingdom was abolished when God appeared in human form to bring the newness of eternal life.
    3. Ignatius (c. 50-117): For our God Jesus Christ is more visible now that he is in the Father.
    4. Ignatius (c. 50-117): I glorify Jesus Christ, the God who made you so wise, for I observed that you are established in an unshakable faith, having been nailed, as it were, to the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ.
    5. Ignatius (c. 50-117): Wait expectantly for the one who is above time: the Eternal, the Invisible, who for our sake became visible; the Intangible, the Unsuffering, who for our sake suffered, who for our sake endured in every way.
    6. Polycarp of Smyrna (69-155): Now may the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the eternal high priest himself, the Son of God Jesus Christ, build you up in faith and truth . . ., and to us with you, and to all those under heaven who will yet believe in our Lord and God Jesus Christ and in his Father who raised him from the dead.
    7. Epistle of Barnabas (written c. 70-130): “If the Lord submitted to suffer for our souls, even though he is Lord of the whole world, to whom God said at the foundation of the world, “Let us make humankind according to our image and likeness,” how is it, then, that he submitted to suffer at the hands of humans?”
    8. Justin Martyr (100-165): And that Christ being Lord, and God the Son of God, and appearing formerly in power as Man, and Angel, and in the glory of fire as at the bush, so also was manifested at the judgment executed on Sodom, has been demonstrated fully by what has been said.
    9. Justin Martyr “Permit me first to recount the prophecies, which I wish to do in order to prove that Christ is called both God and Lord of hosts.”
    10. Justin Martyr Therefore these words testify explicitly that He [Jesus] is witnessed to by Him [the Father] who established these things, as deserving to be worshipped, as God and as Christ.
    11. Justin Martyr The Father of the universe has a Son; who also, being the first-begotten Word of God, is even God. And of old He appeared in the shape of fire and in the likeness of an angel to Moses and to the other prophets; but now in the times of your reign, having, as we before said, become Man by a virgin . . .”
    12. Justin Martyr For if you had understood what has been written by the prophets, you would not have denied that He was God, Son of the only, unbegotten, unutterable God.
    13. Tatian (110-172): We do not act as fools, O Greeks, nor utter idle tales when we announce that God was born in the form of man.
    14. Melito of Sardis (d. c. 180): “He that hung up the earth in space was Himself hanged up; He that fixed the heavens was fixed with nails; He that bore up the earth was born up on a tree; the Lord of all was subjected to ignominy in a naked body - God put to death! . . . [I]n order that He might not be seen, the luminaries turned away, and the day became darkened-because they slew God, who hung naked on the tree. . . . This is He who made the heaven and the earth, and in the beginning, together with the Father, fashioned man; who was announced by means of the law and the prophets; who put on a bodily form in the Virgin; who was hanged upon the tree; who was buried in the earth; who rose from the place of the dead, and ascended to the height of heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of the Father.”
    15. Irenaeus of Lyon (120-202): “For I have shown from the Scriptures, that no one of the sons of Adam is as to everything, and absolutely, called God, or named Lord. But that He is Himself in His own right, beyond all men who ever lived, God, and Lord, and King Eternal, and the Incarnate Word, proclaimed by all the prophets, the apostles, and by the Spirit Himself, may be seen by all who have attained to even a small portion of the truth. Now, the Scriptures would not have testified these things of Him, if, like others, He had been a mere man. . . . He is the holy Lord, the Wonderful, the Counselor, the Beautiful in appearance, and the Mighty God, coming on the clouds as the Judge of all men; - all these things did the Scriptures prophesy of Him.”
    16. Irenaeus (120-202): “He received testimony from all that He was very man, and that He was very God, from the Father, from the Spirit, from angels, from the creation itself, from men, from apostate spirits and demons.”
    17. Irenaeus (120-202): “Christ Jesus [is] our Lord, and God, and Savior, and King, according to the will of the invisible Father.”
    18. Irenaeus (120-202): “Christ Himself, therefore, together with the Father, is the God of the living, who spoke to Moses, and who was also manifested to the fathers.”
    19. Clement of Alexandria (c. 150-215): “This Word, then, the Christ, the cause of both our being at first (for He was in God) and of our well-being, this very Word has now appeared as man, He alone being both, both God and man-the Author of all blessings to us; by whom we, being taught to live well, are sent on our way to life eternal. . . . . . . The Word, who in the beginning bestowed on us life as Creator when He formed us, taught us to live well when He appeared as our Teacher; that as God He might afterwards conduct us to the life which never ends”
    20. Tertullian (c. 160-225): For God alone is without sin; and the only man without sin is Christ, since Christ is also God.”
    21. Tertullian “Thus Christ is Spirit of Spirit, and God of God, as light of light is kindled. . . . That which has come forth out of God is at once God and the Son of God, and the two are one. In this way also, as He is Spirit of Spirit and God of God, He is made a second in manner of existence-in position, not in nature; and He did not withdraw from the original source, but went forth. This ray of God, then, as it was always foretold in ancient times, descending into a certain virgin, and made flesh in her womb, is in His birth God and man united.”
    22. Hippolytus (c. 170-235): “The Logos alone of this God is from God himself; wherefore also the Logos is God, being the substance of God.”
    23. Caius (c. 180-217) [in response to those who would question the deity of Christ] “Perhaps what they allege might be credible, did not the Holy Scriptures, in the first place, contradict them. And then, besides, there are writings of certain brethren older than the times of Victor, which they wrote against the heathen in defense of the truth, and against the heresies of their time: I mean Justin and Miltiades, and Tatian and Clement, and many others, in all which divinity is ascribed to Christ. For who is ignorant of the books of Irenaeus and Melito, and the rest, which declare Christ to be God and man? All the psalms, too, and hymns of brethren, which have been written from the beginning by the faithful, celebrate Christ the Word of God, ascribing divinity to Him.”
    24. Origen (c. 185-254): “Jesus Christ . . . in the last times, divesting Himself (of His glory), became a man, and was incarnate although God, and while made a man remained the God which He was.”
    25. Novatian of Rome (c. 210-280) “For Scripture as much announces Christ as also God, as it announces God Himself as man. It has as much described Jesus Christ to be man, as moreover it has also described Christ the Lord to be God. Because it does not set forth Him to be the Son of God only, but also the Son of man; nor does it only say, the Son of man, but it has also been accustomed to speak of Him as the Son of God. So that being of both, He is both, lest if He should be one only, He could not be the other. For as nature itself has prescribed that he must be believed to be a man who is of man, so the same nature prescribes also that He must be believed to be God who is of God. . . . Let them, therefore, who read that Jesus Christ the Son of man is man, read also that this same Jesus is called also God and the Son of God”

The truth of GOD was never dependent on religious traditions - Jesus demonstrated this by exposing perils of religious traditions with the truth of GOD - taking note, that there are no religious institutions or churches between salvation and GOD - only Jesus Christ
And so this notion that we should look to religious institutions and traditions for the truth proves to be nothing but a fools arrand, as the truth was written for all who seek it, and perhaps more to the point, as a means to protect us from the lies and deceptions of false religions.

Regarding this idea, though, it isn't necessary to show that the Trinity borrowed from specific elements of paganism to discount it, but to show that there are sufficient essential similarities between it and paganism to call it into question. For example, you'll find quite a bit of variety between different forms of polytheism, to the point of being incomparable, but they're all based on the same set of "naturally occurring" fundamental errors.

@@pleaseenteraname1103 Does a Christian need to believe in the Trinity to be saved?

How can you prove the Trinity from John 1:1 since this verse is prior to the Incarnation since the verse presents Two in Eternity not 3? Fact is that the original duality is also presented in Revelation 22:1 the Throne of God and the Lamb. So where is the throne of the Trinity and why isn't the Holy Spirit worshiped? Only Two are presented on the throne of Revelation 22:1 as being worshiped. You will not find one verse that sanctions the worship of the Holy Spirit in the Bible. Yet at the same time the Holy Spirit is not a force and is not an energy and can be blasphemed and is of the Godhead. So can you explain this?

Great video. Another good argument you almost mentioned is that since many pagan gods are single deities, Unitarianism must therefore be pagan - according to their own reasoning.
It's silly what people will come up with when they assume that correlation equals causation. And even if Plato was close in his view of 3 distinct things which comprise reality, at least he was closer than others! It is possible for some people to be more correct than others, or closer to the truth, even unbelievers. The standard is not if someone said it first, but what the Bible teaches. If we presuppose the Bible is God's word, then it doesn't matter if someone held the belief prior. They simply were just correct prior to the special revelation of it.
But yes, we do see plenty of traces of God having multiple parts even with ancient Judaism and the OT as they believed that there was a part of God called the "shekinah" which was the part of God that made him known and interacted with his creation. God cannot be seen, is omniscient, and omnipresent, yet even the ancient Jews understood that there was also a part of God that was seen in physical form (hence walking with Adam in the garden, or Isaiah's vision), God applies human terms to himself such as being greived (yet knew all along what would happen), and is said to be located in specific locations such as the temple (yet God is omnipresent). Also, the OT says that Yahweh created everything, and the NT says that Jesus created everything. The OT says everyone who calls on the name of Yahweh is saved, and Rom 10:13 says all who call on the name of Christ is saved. Jesus says in John 12 that Isaiah saw his glory, speaking of Jesus as the one he saw in the vision. There are 7 places in the NT which use the definite article and refer to Jesus as "the God", and Jesus is worshiped by all creation, which only God could be.
These all point to the fact that God's nature is far more complex than ours. There is nothing in Scripture that teaches that God is a monad or is purely Unitarian. I would argue Unitarianism is heavily influenced by gnosticism, as was the case with Arianism and is the case with modern neo-Arianism with Oneness Pentecostals and Jehovah's Witnesses.
And great point at the end. Yes, Unitarianism is more similar to pagan gods than the Trinity is.

      Truth Sayer
*Does the Trinity Doctrine Make Sense ?*
      *or is it Nonsense ?*
Since the Trinity doctrine claims Jesus is also the one God, an Adventist author from the 1800's wrote,
“To believe that doctrine, when reading the scripture we must believe that God sent Himself into the world, died to reconcile the world to Himself, raised Himself from the dead, ascended to Himself in heaven, pleads before Himself in heaven to reconcile the world to Himself, and is the only mediator between man and Himself… We must believe also that in the garden God prayed to Himself, if it were possible, to let the cup pass from Himself, and a thousand other such absurdities.”
      - (J.N. Loughborough)
Some of those other absurdities it teaches is that Jesus is the immortal God but died,
is the invisible God but was seen,
is the omnipotent God but was strengthened by an angel,
is the omniscient God but did not know the day of his return,
is as great as His Father but His Father is greater than He,
is equal with the Father and yet He is the Father,
is the Son but the same age as the Father,
is the Son who has a Father and the God who has no Father,
is the begotten Son and the unbegotten God,
is very God and very man, came out from Himself,
prayed to Himself, gave power to Himself,
thanked Himself, bore witness of Himself,
      went back to Himself,
sits at the right hand of Himself,
is His own Father and His own Son,
left Heaven and yet was there all the time.
There are many things which are hard to understand in the Bible, but you can be sure that God never expects us to believe impossibilities.
Over and over again you hear it said that the Gospel is so simple a child can understand it.
      And I agree.
But how can that be the case with the teaching of the Trinity ?
Not only do children not understand it, but our best theologians cannot even explain it.
However, the thought that God sent His Son to this earth to die for you and me is easy to comprehend when we believe the simple Bible statement that Jesus is truly the
      Son of God !
Not one of three mysterious beings making up “one God.”
How can you possibly believe that Jesus is NOT the begotten Son of the eternal Father and share John 3:16 with others in the hope of inviting them to take part in eternal salvation ? Doesn't John 3:16 become a lie the moment you deny He is a Son ?
A metaphor did not send a metaphor to save us.
A Father sent us His Son to save us.
      John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
      2 John 1:3
“Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.”

I would recommend "Triads and Trinity" by J. G. Griffiths (1996) University of Wales press. This is a very scholarly work, citing references and working through Trinitarian references in Egyptian and Greek sources going back to Old Kingdom Egypt.
The picture of something "Stolen" from paganism is probably going too far, but the first comprehensive accounts of any Trinity come from Plotinus, not from Christian sources.

    • @beren1898
      @beren1898 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Dale Tuggy on his website blog already did a review and criticism on and against that book (Triads and Trinity: a mini-review). My conclusion basically similar with him, but not all since he is a Unitarian. Atleast on the book Griffiths is aware that just because you find something earlier than a piece of Christian art or doctrine that resembles it, it doesn’t follow that there is any causal connection between them.

    • @johnthy144
      @johnthy144 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The picture uncovered by Griffiths is that a Trinitarian picture of deity goes back to the Old Kingdom in Egypt where it is found in Pyramid texts. He goes on to show how this is refined in later documents to a formula where three named deities are said to form one God. He then traces this into the Ptolemaic kingdom, where Greek philosophers are producing Trinitarian theologies. Philo of Alexandria wrote about the idea of multiplicity and unity existing in the same godhead, and in 300AD and Plotinus, the pagan philosopher who produced a developed trinity similar to that proclaimed by Alexander, Metropolitan of Alexandria, also came from Egypt. The Nicene doctrine produced by Athanasius comes from Alexander, and shows verbal similarities with the Trinity of Plotinus. This is not quite full proof of a causal link but the fact that there is a chain of witnesses in the same geographical location to a doctrine which begins more than 2000 years before Christ and develops slowly into the Trinity is a smoking gun - to presume that there is no link would be to presume that Platonic philosophy had no influence on the Church.

    • @beren1898
      @beren1898 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I understand. Personally, for me, there are some of the conclusions on the book that quiet a stretch to draw on a thought of connection (Which Dale Tuggy adressed it in his website and criticism of the book as well, which quiet unique because he is a Unitarian but he agree that the book gave little relevance, and also I don't agree with Dale view even thou some similarity thought in mine and him about the book). It's still an interesting reading of course (Did not try discredit Griffiths effort) from an Egyptologist and an interesting comparative thought, especially for specialist. That's all.

ohn 2o:17 Jesus is saying to her, "Do not touch Me, for not as yet have I ascended to My Father. Now go to My brethren, and say to them that I said, 'Lo! I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and (My God and your God). If Jesus is God, how can he have a God, when the Bible says there is only ONE GOD?
Jesus said God is Superior . John 14:28 My father is greater than I.
If God and Christ are equal, then how is God greater than Christ?
Jesus taught that he and the father are one purpose not part of a trinity. John 17:22 And the glory which thou hast given me, I have given them, that THEY MAY BE ONE AS WE ARE ONE. As you can see when Jesus said he and the father are one, he is stating they are ONE IN PURPOSE, just as those who Jesus gave glory to. They are all in one purpose also. They didn’t become part of a trinity.
Simple question: If Christ is God the Father, then why would Christ be the beginning of creation of God? How could God have a beginning and be the first born of every creature? Colossians 1:15 Who is the Image of the invisible God, Firstborn of every creature.
John 12: 49 seeing that I speak not from Myself, but the Father Who sends Me, He has given Me the precept, what I may be saying and what I should be speaking." 50 And I am aware that His precept is life eonian. What, then, I am speaking, according as the Father has declared it to Me, thus am I speaking. Jesus does exactly what the father tells him to do. He receives commands from the father. He does nothing on his own. What he says and does is given to him by the father. Can you see how they are one purpose, and not a three part GOD? They work together as one, just as mentioned above John 17:22
If Christ is God, then how can he learn anything from God? He would already know it right? Hebrews 5: 8 even He also, being a Son, learned obedience from that which He suffered." John 8: 28 Jesus, then, said to them again that "Whenever you should be exalting the Son of Mankind, then you will know that I am, and from Myself I am doing nothing, but, according as My Father TEACHES Me, these things I am speaking." Another thing. Why does Christ not know the day and the hour of his return if he is God? Matthew 24: 36 Now, concerning that day and hour no one is aware, neither the messengers of the heavens, NOR THE SON; except the Father only. God is the only one who has knowledge of everything. Jesus knows what the father tells him.
Christ also says John 5: 30 I can not do anything of Myself. According as I am hearing am I judging; and My judging is just, for I am not seeking My will, but the will of Him Who sends Me . Jesus said he is not seeking HIS will, but the will of the Father. John 6: 38 for I have descended from heaven, not that I should be doing My will, but the will of Him Who sends Me." See the separation?
1 Timothy 2: 5 For there is one God, and one Mediator of God and mankind, a Man, Christ Jesus. If Jesus is God, why does he need to mediate for himself?
Mark 10: 18 Now Jesus said to him, "Why are you terming Me good? No one is good except One, God." Do I need to explain this one? Nah, I’m sure you see it.
I could go on and on with this note, and show you a whole lot more, but I am going to end it this way.
1 Corinthians 15: 28 And when all things have been subjected to Him (Jesus), then the Son (Jesus) Himself will be made subject to Him(GOD) who put all things under Him(Jesus), so that God may be all in all. Notice that when Christ has subjected all to himself, then he(Jesus) will be SUBJECTED TO GOD. GOD will become ALL in ALL. Everything, Everyone (including Jesus) is subjected to God.

Oh I'm sure you "have addressed these". You mean to say "you speak them away to fit your belief". Pay attn: But I'm sure you won't, because you are so deeply embedded in your Trinity belief. All I can do is show you the truth.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost." (Matthew 1:18)
"But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost." (Matt. 1:20)
If, as the doctrine of the Trinity states, that the Holy Spirit, is the third PERSON of the Trinity, then the Holy Spirit is Jesus' Father; not the Father.
That's how messed up these unscriptural doctrines and creeds make things.
"Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. (2 John 3)

    • @TheMarklbs
      @TheMarklbs 7 ปีที่แล้ว

First and foremost Matthew 1:18 and 20 do say that. Secondly I showed you some truth. What you do with it is up to you. If you want to twist and turn as the scribes and theologians do attempting to justify a false doctrine, fine, but understand, your only leading the blind.

TheMarklbs Jesus was already in existence before the incarnation... So He didn't come into existence through conception of the Holy Spirit... How Jesus became physical doesn't show who His Father is. This should be obvious.

@@Ivann1005 You only need to know basic history to know this.
The founded of Christianity in Rome was originally a pagan. That's a good start.
The original Christianity, Gnostic Christianity had obvious Pagan similarities, reincarnation being one.
Here in the UK where I live you can still see pagan God's engraved into churches and you can still see pagan symbolic carvings on church's hundreds of years old.
The whole bible story was already told many times long before Jesus was ever thought about by pagan legends and stories. Even down to the 3 wise men. A virgin birth giving birth to the physical version of God. The sun became the son. Pagans used to have images of their gods with halos behind their heads like you see now in Christianity.
I could go on and on.
You can research all this yourself.

Because they don’t, that’s a strawman, you’re incorrectly defining the Trinity one God three persons. It’s impossible for you to provide a meeting for critique of trinitarianism when you incorrectly defined it. When are you gonna give up your pseudo ahistorical nonsense, and your conspiracy theories.
