  • In this video we'll be taking a dive into the mind of Jotaro Kujo and seeing what really makes him tick. This video does contain spoilers but annotations will be provided for those not caught up to part 6. I hope you all enjoy the video and all feedback is appreciated!
    This is my first serious video, so it's not the best editing wise. I'd like to know how I could improve if you can give some advice!

    Hi there everyone! I'm not dead and I always check this comment section to read things you guys have said. I really do want to make new videos but my desktop's graphics card is dead and I'm short on cash so I've been unable to make a video and research since all my video stuff is on that PC. Your Vid really was a bomb, making my mind explode. Cause many ppl in jojo community around my space just used to say 'bout Jotaro, well he's stoic and badass, while that caption is true, it just felt shallow. The only thing I feel I can add to this is that Jotaro is a half white kid growing up in 70's-80's Japan, which already makes him somewhat of an outsider among his peers, and Japanese bullying can be pretty hardcore at the best of times. This would probably have gotten the most intense around the period of early high school, when other teens are most likely to be throwing their weight around. We kind of see this with Josuke as well, but its very clearly not as intense, probably because he was harder to pick on and much easier for people to relate to.
    It makes perfect sense that this would play into Jotaro's delinquent behaviour - no one will fuck with you if you can just send them to the hospital. It's also quite likely that the fights they flash back to in the Kakyoin fight (which seem to be against students from other schools) were not started by him, perhaps in part for this reason.

    • @TheeOK1
      @TheeOK1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +169

      LoneStar Dullahan yeah, I tend to forget that he is mixed/biracial at times, but even then we don't get any hints or sights the shows us of him being bullied.

    • @jeremyabbott4537
      @jeremyabbott4537 7 ปีที่แล้ว +227

      The Biracial thing could also explain a bit of his hostility to his mother, as she is white and pretty much a "gaijin", even adopting a Japanese nickname. Jotaro probably doesn't respect her too much for that, as well as being a doormat to his verbal abuse. When she is effected by her stand and goes into a coma, Jotaro changes. He sees her inner strength that she uses to keep a happy face even when she is feeling weak and probably scared.

    • @SakuraStardust
      @SakuraStardust 7 ปีที่แล้ว +139

      LoneStar Dullahan Also, the crime rate was really high in Japan in the 1980's, I'm not 100% but I think it was higher than it's ever been (in comparison to every decade of Japan that has a recorded crime rate). Because of that, the delinquent thing was very common in every day life in Japan. So, Jotaro went to high school during that time, and that shaped his character.

    • @stubbstcg9682
      @stubbstcg9682 7 ปีที่แล้ว +99

      LoneStar Dullahan Yea from what I here Japanese kids are hardcore racist if its not an international school. I guess thats why Kubo symbolised this by using Chad as a Mexican Japanese main character and Ichigo as an orange hair protagonist in Bleach. Like it or not Kubo did a pretty good job with representing what happens when you dont conform to the Japanese norm.

    • @larkmankiller
      @larkmankiller 7 ปีที่แล้ว +138

      @jeremy In regards to his verbal comments towards holly I always felt it was more due to him being at the age where he felt he had to be big tough and manly and say fuck emotions, but deep down he cares for because he loves her. I also feel his mother's nonexistent reaction to his rude comments symbolized that she saw straight through his tough guy act and knew he was a caring individual deep down. Adding to this are the moments during SC where jotaro shows genuine concern and passion for other people such as Anne and the nurse at his school. He's a caring boy but trying to live up to the tough guy persona likely due to factors like puberty and what LoneStar mentioned.
      I like your interpretation though

      Thank god I read this comment, because I thought the same time but no one actually pointed out that before. But I had to build and learn my apreciation for Jotaro, though. He is not one of my favorite Jojos, but I do like him. And well, I really wished we could've seen more of his... well, teenage side, y'know? I think that is what throw people off the most. Most of the time, Jotaro never seems to be surprised or challanged at all, while we can see Batman struggling and or reading the situations. Maybe I should rewatch SDC arc to refresh my memory, but the narrative itself keep us a bit distant from Jotaro's mind. And I think that's what make people dislike him, or hard to empathize with him at first. I certainly like him more in DIU arc, since we can see more how he feels about others. (the scene that comes to my mind is when he's confronting Kira the second time, and before he starts beating the shit out of him, he takes a deep breath and remembers all the people that he cares about.)

    When interacting with friends or just in generally casual senarios, the flap is always kept in front covering his naturally aggresive gaze.
    When he needs to talk about something serious, he lifts it up slightly to maintain eye contact and just let you know he has your attention.

    Jotaro is one of my favourite anime characters, not just because he has an awesome stand, but because he went through the same pain that I felt. I was born with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), so throughout my whole life, I was always bullied, insulted and mocked as a kid. My father passed away when I was 10, and since then, I began to develop a delinquent-like personality and started to behave rudely, picking fights and constantly throwing tantrums at school. Even though my grades aren't affected, my behaviour is still the same, until today. Sometimes, I yell at my mother when there are misunderstandings, but deep down, I still love her. I was worried that I might hurt the people that I care about, even though I don't want to. But watching Jojo now and then has made me realize that I'm not the only one going through all this pain. I respect Jotaro because he was able to change from a delinquent to a righteous hero and one of my role models. Thank you Araki for creating such a wonderful character.

    At the beginning of Stardust Crusaders, I hated Jotaro, thinking he’s just an edge boy. But throughout part 3, I saw how that was all just a front to protect his loved ones and he actually became my favorite character in part 4 after seeing his maturity and PTSD in that part. The way he freezes after hearing Angelo say DIO’s name sold me on him being my favorite character.

      That's what made Joseph so entertaining in Part 2, especially after how tragically the first part ended. When I thought he had died to beat Kars, I was so sad that he followed in the footsteps of Johnathan. Nope Joseph doesn't give a fuck just crashes his own funeral with a new wife. Part 2 had a weird sense of constant asspull that worked. I mean in episode 1 (maybe 2) he literally pulled a tommygun and grenades out of his ass. Stardust Crusaders just didn't feel the same in terms of the asspulls being easily excusable.. I dont know how to put it. I think we can all agree Star Succ was stupid though.

    One of the best character moments for Jotaro was in DiU, when he says to Josuke's mother something like "Joseph would be here to keep you safe if he could, but since he can't, you can rely on me instead". The acknowledgement of respect for his grandfather and the taking of responsibility was a very mature and non-delinquent moment.

  • @HumansFreshlyBorn
    @HumansFreshlyBorn 6 ปีที่แล้ว +856

    I kind of think that Jotaro lost his emotions towards his mother because he was bullied. Japanese bullying is apparently much harsher than in the west, and a half white kid who acts like they said he did might be the victim of bullying, and that might be the reason he is jacked as hell at just 17. He got jacked to fight back and you wouldn't want to pick on a guy who could send you to the hospital.

I also just wanna point out that in a manga page that talks about Jotaro's favourite things; it's stated that he actually thinks others can understand what he's thinking so he doesnt need to talk (But only his mom and Joseph can probably understand him at the start of Stardust Crusaders), that his favourite colour is transparent (I imagine this means a colour that you can see through like how the ocean is blue/green but you can see through it) and his favourite food is anything his mom cooks.

    Has anyone ever noticed Jotaro's soft spot for children? He's always been kind and very protective over them for example the young girl he saved multiple times in crusaders even though she was giving him a hard time and didn't trust him at first. He still risked his life again and again for her without hesitation. He also allowed her to stay close by him and the crusaders until she was safe and was sent to meet up with her father. And when the little boy in the ferris wheel cried Jotaro didn't curse him out nor get irritated instead he promised him he'd buy him another popsicle once they got back down when he was fighting yellow temperance. He also was protective of koichi and nearly died shielding him from killer queens bomb and showed much recognition and appreciation towards koichi afterwards realizing how much stronger mentally and physically he has become. He also wanted to avenge Koichi for protecting him, giving his last bit of energy into beating the dog shit out of Kira. Jotaro isn't very open to adults or women in general besides his fellow crusaders but when it comes to children he is more gentle and shows immediate kindness towards them. That is also why in diamond is unbreakable arc it never felt out of place for me to see Jotaro form bonds and relationships with the younger "kids" which can be subjective since Jotaro is much older and probably sees most of them as children or young teens at least.

    I think Jotaro is a great character, but i didn't realize that until part 4. During part 4 I thought to myself about why I suddenly liked Jotaro so much more even though he was the same character, and then I realized it; Jotaro works much better in a mentor role than the apprentice role. Josuke is the hot-headed, emotional protagonist, while Jotaro is his reserved and layered teacher. I think Jotaro being the main character of Stardust Crusaders was definitely not the place for him to shine, and I often forund myself thinking of Polnareff more as the start of SC rather than Jotaro, and it's because he shares those same traits with Josuke, which are the traits that the hero of a story like this should have. Thoughts?

    • @droganovic6879
      @droganovic6879 4 ปีที่แล้ว +65

      I mean, you're right in that the role of mentor really suits him. But I honestly see him as the main character of 3, and in a way 4 too because it feels like a continuation of stardust crusaders. Josuke is obviously the actual main character but Jotaro is the one Kira feared, and feels like "the big gun" in that setting. Polnareff was hilarious, and his story was definitely a "main character" one, with the whole _avenging his sister_ thing. But Jotaro just felt more like a main character there because of 90s media that I consumed. I always liked the guy _because_ he's so stoic, the trait that you mention makes him a great mentor character. It made him stand out from the previous two JoJos. Joseph was hilarious and Jonathan was basically "Paragon for life" so it was interesting to see an "antihero" character. Josuke is definitely a more "classic" Shonen hero yeah, that is true

      Araki puts a ton of emphasis on side characters. Getting the most screen time doesn't automatically make you the main character in JoJo's. In fact, he gives a lot of side characters their own story, motivations, development, and plenty of screen time. Watching JoJo's is like watching a ton of different "main characters" and how they interact with each other. It's like a bunch of stories from different points of view and the Joestar bloodline is the glue that holds them all together.

    I thinks it’s dum how a lot of people just write Jotaro off as “boring” because his character development isn’t in your face like a lot of other anime where the mc is literally saying all the shit they dislike about themselves in their heads and then through some turn of events they change and develop into stronger people. This works but it happens way to damn much and it’s not interesting for a character to just tell you about how they change. Hell not even just Jotaro some people even say that JoJo characters in general don’t have character development and are boring because anime they’ve watched taught them not to think and just tells them, when you actually start analyzing JoJo characters you find out that they’re actually really deep and complex characters (Watch Meti not the bad guy “The Beauty of” series, he dives in deeper into the characters of JoJo and it’s really interesting check it out)

I saw him as a man with a drive to protect his mother and friends. But I never dug deep into the topics you just discussed right now. I never thought that there was actually more to just Jotaro having PTSD because of Kira's actions, or the way he reacts to Josuke's punch. I also thought that since Sadao Kujo really wasn't present in his life, Joseph became a "father" figure to him, treating him like his own grandfather rather than seeing him as just an alley. It always bugged me when people say jotaro is a bad or boring protagonist! Heck, he almost never brute forces his way out of fights, other than maybe the High Priestess one. His strategy seems to always be to let his opponent underestimate him, then catch them off guard. Whether it's using Star Finger to hit a foe that thinks they're out of Star Platinum's range, dragging Robber Soul into water to keep him off his invincible stand, or faking his death to lure Dio close enough for a counter, Star Platinum's power is usually the finisher, not the reason for winning.
    I'd definitely love a video about Jotaro possibly being on the spectrum. It'd explain a lot of why he barely emotes!

    • @Flevir
      @Flevir 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Jotaro has to be very strategic in his battles. True, he ends fights with a Stand Rush, but that's because that's where his overwhelming power comes from. Jotaro prefers to end things quickly once he has the right opportunity, and to ensure this he throws a ton of attacks basically all at once taking advantage of SP's ridiculous speed to make sure his opponent is either defeated or beaten to the point where they are now at a serious disadvantage. However, to accomplish this Jotaro must be in the right position. His opponent must be open, he must be in a situation where he will not receive counterattacks, and his opponent needs to be large enough for him to barrage effectively. As such Jotaro has to make these opportunities for himself, and that's where his intellect shows through. I love how Jotaro fights because everyone always assumes hes just a brute but he actually utilizes both brains and brawn. One of my favorite examples of this is the Ratt arc of Part 4. Jotaro, experienced in using projectiles with his Stand, could have easily taken down Bug Eaten. But he didnt because that wasn't the point. The point was to teach Josuke how to use his close range Stand for ranged attacks, and as such Jotaro deliberately puts himself into danger to force Josuke to figure out what he needs to do. Jotaro knows that Josuke can heal him, and he knows that if necessary he can stop time and retreat if things got too bad. Instead he acts as a target, drawing out the quarry to more easily allow Josuke to practice and develop. No movement or choice in that arc did Jotaro not plan out. He knew exactly what he was doing from start to finish, and that's awesome. Take that you people who say hes just a brute.

      I'd say that's one of the few actua PTSD moments Jotaro suffers, because the manga actually depicts him being visually reminded of Dio when it happens and he subsequently screams when realising what Pucci (who had Jotaro's memories for some time and presumably has Dio's now from his fusion with the Green Baby) is doing. Even though Jolyne could've probably survived those knives, Jotaro probably thought back to the fear and pain he felt when faced with those knives, and didn't want his daughter to suffer that too, so he tried to save her before trying to kill Pucci - but it was too late.

    If I were to interpret Jotaro as a character, the first thing to explain briefly is what makes a good character or let's just say a good main character. The biggest factor is development. The character grows and changes while the story is moving forward and I would argue that a strong character development will make up for a lackluster plot as you pointed out. Now to the second question? Why is this character a good one? I recently watched a video and this opened my perspective. A good character development is staple for a good story but it can also be said that by not developing/changing makes a character worthwhile. Now I'll explain why Jotaro is a good example of good non-character development at least in SDC. In SDC, he faces an unknown threat that is said to be his family's fated archenemy. Now Jotaro's character design speaks volumes about his character. A tall bulky tower-ing guy who's intimidating and shows the stereotype student deliquent vibe from the get-go. He also wears his hat that blends with his hair. The most popular and reasonable theory is his hat is worn-out from his fights when he's a delinquent meaning that he's sentimental to unusual stuff and he also wears a colorful belt which means that he's still worried about how he looks and also showed marine biology interests with the choice of dolphins. It means that Araki intended to fully establish his character. His stand ability and design also shows this. A bulky stand who just punches through everyone no matter the pinch is. For him, he doesn't like things that are complicated such as "girls", "evil ideologies", and "annoying behavior". For him, he needs to will his way through everyone. Again going back to the topic, why does a good non-character development is great for Jotaro? Because if he showed changes to how he process his thoughts, he will hesitate, waver, or get lost while fighting enemies. If he sympathizes, feels for the enemy, it will cause him and his friends great danger. Because he bottles his emotions and maintains his stoic facade, then he can think straight and defeat the enemy. Of course, Araki puts little fun facts that Jotaro isn't a killjoy or edgy showed in the Oingo Boingo Arc. Now moving to part 4, he's now a mature man. Again, he pursued his passion and his duty to clean up the arrows/stand users that caused his problems in the first place. He devoted his life for his work because that's the only way he lived his life. Simple-mindedly willing himself through his work and duties. He became calm,cool, and collected mentor that the Morioh Town bois needed. His unwavering demeanor helped them only focus on tasks at hand and not think of anything distracting or silly. Also, I don't believe he turned out that way because of the lack of father-figure but rather he grew up to an environment where everyone worked hard to reach where they are. For example, his father's music career, his mom's devotion to raising him, his grandfather's work background. Jotaro didn't recognize Joseph when he went to the prison only pushes the fact that Joseph has always been busy with his family and work. Because he lived that way, he thought raising Jolyne that way would make her stronger like he did. Unknowingly, Jolyne turned out to be vulnerable and gullible. Jotaro only focused on his job to protect his family and provide for them. Because Araki established that he bottles his emotions, Jotaro not being intimate his family made a lot of sense in the very beginning. That's why Jolyne thought that he never cared about her ever since. He's a very nuanced character. It showed Araki can write a character that is not spoonfed to his readers and needs a lot of analyzing. This also showed the contrast between his character and Jolyne. Because Jolyne had the best development/growth from 1-6. Also, his one-liners are hilarious. Some of the best in the entire series.

      Again, back to the main point, establishing a good non-character development is also as effective as having a good character development in storytelling. Non-character development meaning that a character never changes much in a story. Other good examples of this is the main protagonists from Kaiji and Prison School.

    This is kinda old, but another point I’d love to make is the responsibility Jotaro feels after the events in SDC. I mean specifically in moments where he needs to trust others. Two amazing scenes I think of are his scenes with Koichi during the Sheer Heart Attack arc and his first few scenes with Jolyne against Johngalli. When you first see how Jotaro refuses to let them help during these dire situations, one could just blow it off as him being the more experienced stand user. I like to think it’s deeper than that. Yes, he’s pushing these people away because he’s more experienced but it’s also because he loves them. It’s that responsibility he has that makes him feel like only HE can protect them. During the Sheer Heart Attack arc he’s constantly shoving Koichi to the side, both verbally and physically, and shows that he has little faith in Koichi’s skills, despite how much Koichi says he’s grown. Of course, Jotaro learns to acknowledge this and respect Koichi, but he also pulls the same thing on Jolyne. When they first encounter Johngalli’s stand, Jotaro is constantly pushing Jolyne aside. He wants to protect her of course, but it’s to the point where he belittles her abilities. The common factor in these two scenes is how Jotaro does not trust these people, who he loves, to protect themselves. He’s at that point where he can’t rely on anyone, and that’s forced him to have that experienced, protector role. It’s especially jarring to see him like this when he never acted like this during SDC. Jotaro had this sense of trust in all the crusaders, that they could protect themselves at any given moment. He didn’t need to protect them because he knew how powerful each and everyone was. He knew he could rely on them, and that they could rely on him. But that all changes AFTER his battle with DIO and loosing all those friends whom he thought so highly of.
    This really does show how much Jotaro suffers after the events of sdc and the effect it’s had on him and his relationship with others…

    While rewatching SDC for the third time, I noticed that he says that he pulls a lot of his punches in part one and when he fights enemies in part 2, he still showed his enemies mercy and gave them chances to get out of his face. He would even tell his enemies not to worry about their injuries since he didn’t go all out on them. He even respectfully buried N’doul after his death and told Steely Dan to repent and ask Enyaba for forgiveness in hell for killing her. Little instances like this show that he just wants to save his mother and is kind enough to acknowledge that his enemies are human as well. Jotaro is pretty compassionate despite his geeky cool exterior.

      See, you might think all this is an accident that Araki can conveniently take credit for... but no. There's so much foreshadowing, duality between opposing characters, deep entrenched symbolism, and more that supports the idea that he's just really good at packing ideas into characters and themes. As an example, look at the Emperor and the Hanged Man, and how those tarot cards interplay, and compare to Hol Horse and his partnership with the Hanged Man, and then later with Boingo.

    Adding more to the point on Jotaro's PTSD episode during the Sheer Heart Attack arc: remember how fixated he was on Kira's watch? I really think it was deliberate on Araki's part; after all, the person who gave Jotaro his trauma does have a time-related ability. He even comes up with a cringy line, probably as a coping mechanism like you mentioned.
    What makes Jotaro so interesting to me is that although he makes for an admirable comic book hero, getting himself out of any situation against all odds and generally just being a badass, he's not too good at being an actual person. He's socially awkward, struggles when it comes to expressing his feelings and forming bonds with others, and has a complicated relationship with his daughter. He obviously loves her very much and wants nothing but the best for her, but despite that she still developped issues of her own because of him.

      All JoJo's are great in their own ways.
      Jonathan-who started it all. Manly as fuck. Huge guy but an actual cinnamon bun. Ultimate gentleman.
      Joseph-intelligent, funny, confident and a great risk taker. He's willing to sacrifice his left arm to defeat Kars and I think that trait is admirable.
      Jotaro-tough, lowkey compassionate, badass. Best tsundere boi. Most people look at his character on a surface level, but he's more than just an angsty teenager everyone perceive him to be.
      Josuke-my guy. Gentle and outgoing, great friend and a good precious boy, albeit a little unpredictable when it comes to his temper. Inherited his father's intellect and risk-taking personality. His traits made him my favorite JoJo and I can see myself being friends with him.
      Giorno-a very dynamic character. He's a perfect combination of a gentle, kind-hearted and righteous friend and a stone-cold merciless enemy. Truly what makes him Jonathan and Dio's son and that made him my second favorite JoJo.
      Jolyne-although her story is my least favorite so far, I can't deny that she's also a great protagonist. Her development from a whiny young lady constantly getting herself in trouble into a responsible young woman. Her tough lady personality is also admirable. Would also definitely be friends with her.
      Johnny-the most fleshed out, humane JoJo ever. I love his growth throughout SBR. His determination is admirable. His story is fucking awesome. I don't have any words to say. Great character and well written story.
      Josuke 8/Gappy-haven't started JoJolion yet.

    I have a degree in psychology, so I feel like I have a decent bit to add to your points. The reason not having a father figure growing up is detrimental to boys in particular is they have no one to teach them "how to be a man", and so they have to go seeking out that knowledge, which they can get from less than ideal sources. Another person who commented on this video by the name of Lonestar dullahan also pointed out that as a half white have Japanese kid in the 70s/80s, jotaro was very likely an outcast, so he might not have even had an actual person to learn how to be a man from, he might have relied on those Clint Eastwood movies for that knowledge, and of course movies aren't gonna show you how a man acts in day to day life, how to be kind yet strong, how to let people know what your feeling in a healthy way. All jotaro would have seen is the violence and and cussing and being rude to everyone and seeing all that portrayed as cool and badass. He would have been like "ok, that's what a man is like" and thus started to emulate it. And the movies never show the hero dealing with abandonment issues or the inner termoil and anger in a healthy way, or in any way that's not punching something, so jotaro learned to just bottle his emotions away, where they would sit under the surface, festering and multiplying. He puts up the front of the cool badass because nothing bothers the cool badass. If he's the cool badass then no one is gonna hurt him like his dad hurt him by never being there. Deep down, he's just a scared kid desperate to escape the pain. And then he's forced into what at first glance would seem like the very situation that the movies would prepare him for, an adventure that will be solved through violence in order to save the person he loves most. And it's nothing like the movies. The poor kid must be terrified, having superpowered adults try to kill you every other damn day. But he can't let on that he's scared, because if he admits that he's scared, then all the emotions he's been bottling up for years will come bursting out like a river breaking down a dam. So he falls back on what the movies taught him. He answers with violence and a "badass" oneliner. But there is one saving grace for jotaro on this journey. Or rather, 4. Kakyoin, avdol, polnareff and Joseph. Kakyoin becomes the friend jotaro never let himself have back home because he had to keep up the facade of the badass loner. Polnareff teaches him that men dont take their aggression out on women, but instead seek to protect them. Avdol showed him that you can be the stoic badass without being an asshole. They both taught him that emotions are not weakness, but the center of the man's being. And Joseph, sweet, loving Joseph. Joseph challenged jotaro's shitty behavior without being an overbearing dick, showed jotaro genuine love and affection, built jotaro up by praising his accomplishments, showed jotaro that the silent badass isn't the only thing a man can be (by being the most expressive, emotional, and downright goofiest of the stardust crusaders while still having his badass moments), and ultimately was fully prepared to and damn near did give his life to protect jotaro. They were the role models and the friends that jotaro needed. His walls slowly started to come down, even enough for him to show them his cigarette trick, which was probably a big risk in his eyes because a lot of people would have found it stupid and the crusader's ridicule would have absolutely destroyed jotaro emotionaly. And then they started dying one by one, just as they were teaching him the lessons he desperately needed and wanted. It's no wonder he never used his time stop unless he had to, any reminder of DIO would be not only terrifying, but a reminder of everything that was snatched away from him just as he realized he needed it. But the crusader's example still inspired jotaro to put the work in and unlearn his toxic behavior and start to better himself. He stopped being a dick to women for the most part, he was much less rude, cussed way less, and even started trying in school to the point where this once barely passing delinquent became a Doctor of marine biology. but I think you were right in suggesting that the encounters with kira triggered his ptsd from the battle with dio, which caused him to make the same decision his father probably did. Since it was never suggested that his father abandoned him and holly, and holly never mentioned having gotten a divorce, I would guess that jotaro's father made the decision a lot of father's have to make. Sacrificing his relationship with his child in order to make the money to support them. And jotaro sacrificed his relationship with jolyne to keep her safe. And I think he understood that. He doesn't get angry with jolyne when she goes off on him in part 6. He doesn't even try to defend himself. He recognizes the anger he once felt in jolyne. The son has become the father. But he also is able to partially mend his relationship with jolyne by relying on the lessons that Joseph taught him. He always protected jolyne, even when it almost cost him his life. Even if he had to sacrifice the universe to do it. Honestly, laid out like that, jotaro's story is almost a Greek tragedy in a way

    I find him very relatable.
    I got bad parenthood and was forced to be an adult when I was still a child. bullied at school (never fight back at school making things worst but was a beast in dark alley when bullies followed me around. That way I was keeping myself out of trouble in a strange way, in my head lol) . Was keeping at a very young age a very stoic facade for fear of showing weakness and to make my life more difficult. Was afraid of what people was thinking of me all the time and was having a hard time making friends (still ave the same 6 friends after 30 years lol). Was always trying to be the best I can be at jobs making people thinks I was trying to show that I was better that them! When in fact I was afraid to lose my job.
    So you have a very stoic looking young man acting more adult that a adult. Large and strong type looking. dark skin black hair with funny dark themed clothing.
    Keeping to himself and fight to be good at everything.
    When in fact fear was the main raison :)
    We cant see what going on in Jotaro's head, but I can tell his heart is good and he fight the good fight, care for people around him and hate it when people worry for HIM. Type of guy that just want people to leave him alone and have a simple live. He got the EXACT opposite and used what he learned to survive when he was younger. That is Jotaro and IRL I would be friend with him easy.

    That last scene of Diamond is Unbreakable when Jotaro remembers everyone before giving the final blow to Kira says so much about the weight he had been carrying all along.. He was really devastated due to deaths of his friends in Part 3 but was able to keep his second team safe in Diamond is Unbreakable.. All those thoughts that come up in that scene are really complex which includes the respect he has for everyone's efforts and the big relief he has for being able to protect everyone from dying. That scene is like the deepest mourning for his lost comrades.. This is extremely mind-blowing!!!

    I didn't think about him using The World would be so traumatic... I see it now.
    That's really freaking sad! :(((

    For the gun analogy. It would be more.
    Your friend was killed by a maniac with this gun. You end up using the same gun on the maniac to avenge your friend. But you have to keep the gun forever

    i think jotaro having ptsd is pretty much the reason he sent koichi to check out giorno instead of going himself. the moment giorno would have summoned gold experience he wouldve been triggered. he knew hence why he kept his distance. jotaros really complex and that makes him my second favorite jojo.
    he cant be first because im literally in love with joseph xD

      I think it was more like Jotaro was too busy to go there himself and he'd come to find Koichi reliable through the events of DiU. Kinda weird that he didn't think to also send in Josuke, you'd think he'd be a good help.

      +MetroidJunkie Likely because Josuke was busy and just in case something happened he trusted Josuke to protect his town.

      He doesn’t have ptsd.... his battle with Dio is literally the least traumatic fight he ever had in all of Part 3.
      He had more damage done to him when he fought a rat and sheer heart attack.
      DIO never scared him, traumatized him or injured him to the point he’d show any signs of ptsd.
      It’s a fan theory, and nothing more.

      +De Messiah Bullshit. Sheer Heart Attack and the Rat damaging him means nothing. But Jotaro lost the people he can truly call friends to Dio. That's more than enough to bring forth PTSD.

    "Jotaro is boring" imagine losing him in stardust crusaders and not showing on diamond is unbreakable. Maybe that's how you kill a franchise. For me, Jotaro is one of the most interesting character in jjba because of his attitude, it seems like he's always hiding something which make him a very intriguing character.
