I can save you all 20 minutes. #1 check the chains. #2 is it rusty behind the gas door. #3 is the crackpipe/tstat housing leaking. Perform those checks, and it will rule out most haggard VR6 cars (most are by now). It'll need wheel bearings, tie rods, a rack, more wheel bearings (I've done the fronts twice, even with expensive FAG bearings.), brakes every once in a while, a coilpack, a MAF, cooling hoses, a heater core, and to be slammed on its nuts. If you slam it, get lifetime warranty axles once the OEM or ones that are in it break, or if you're smart, rebuild OEM axles with OEM parts. In a year span, 1 put on 7 axles on a car that was 21.5" FTG, and at least half were after using motor mount spacers from EuroImage.
hi will if you ever have an issue with the air pump or your rear 02 sensor u can easily bypass will a performance chip from c2 motor sports very easy to install 10 minutes and it will make your obd2 test for emissions always read ready
trans is known as the exploding trans it has aluminum rivets holding the diff to the bullring at about 130000 miles it throws its gears all over the road
great vid man, i just got myself a mk5 jetta with the 2.5 L but my buddy is looking into the mk3 vr6 and I think he will find this vid helpfull thanks man
I have a sputtering problem. I cleaned the MAF, and it helped. Fuel filter too. But it still happens ...lights dont dim when it happens if that helps. It does it more when i am going uphill. Next is coil pack . Hope it's not the fuel pump. What do you guys and girls think?
Thanks, good things you pointed out. I recently got a mk3 vr6 gti. had to replace the coilpack and still have a CEL for secondary air. it's not the pump though - its something else. Any advice on a local shop? Look like we drive on the same freeways!
Hi i have a 1989 jetta with a vr6 12v 1993 and when my car is running cold the engine run smoot and after i drive it about 10-20 minute it start to run like he is getting to much gaz and he loosing power any idea what it can be ?
Has he ever drivin a glx vr? Sporty suspension? Bouncy? The thing is like riding on a marshmallow and when you take a turn just rolls like and flexes like one too! Lol
That means you have a bad oil pressure switch, have a failed oil pump, or both. The oil light isn't a suggestion, its a worst case scenario notification to pull the **** over.
Jonathan Keenan it's been called a suicide knob they were originally used by truckers for better turns but are now considered illegal to use on a vehicle as they were once a primary cause of accidents
Hey man can you tell me why my mk3 jetta vr6 revs up by itself when in neutral and every time I engage the clutch to switch gears? I really love the car but it's becoming a pain to maintain at 220k miles
If it's obdII, its more than likely "rev-hang". The throttle body on obdII vr6's is cable driven but has a stepper motor inside of it the ECU uses to regulate idle. You may be able to perform a (t)hrottle (b)ody (a)alignment either key on engine off for a couple minutes, don't touch the gas pedal, or use VCDS/VAGCOM to perform this task (better). Failing that, it *may* be a throttle body fault requiring a part-swap, but wiring should be looked at before you bust out your wallet.
William Yu Nowhere did he say it goes into gears by itself. It's revving between shifts. Only 92-95 (A3/B3/B4/Corrado) VR6 had idle valves. And a crank sensor failure will only ever result in a crank-no-start condition or a hot stall.
im thinking about buying an mk3 gti.. It has 101k miles on the engine. Guy is selling it for 1,500$ u.s. He said only thing wrong with it is a blown head gasket. Its a OBD1 Vr6 How much would it be for a new head gasket? (Would i be able to donit myself) my friends dads a mechanic & a buddy of mine owns two mark4s . I got a quote at a shop of about 850$.. The part is just 100$ Once the cars running again should i rebuild it or is it good on 101k miles..... Nothings hurt from the blown head gasket maybe? Btw its gunna be a mark3 vr6 gti

coil pack goes out often. does it burn any oil? or is it misfiring at all?
William Yu you were right. Replaced the coil pack. Runs smooth with ford pack. Thank you sir
Nice review. 🤙🏼

lol goog question.... just got it a few days ago so im looking into it
Hey man can you tell me why my mk3 jetta vr6 revs up by itself when in neutral and every time I engage the clutch to switch gears? I really love the car but it's becoming a pain to maintain at 220k miles
It could be a lot of stuff. Could be idle vavle or crank position sensor etc. Idk about the gear. It's weird that it goes into gear by itself

the headgasket on these cars are rather easy, because it's just one flat gasket. Make sure the head's not warped tho.
okay, should i take like a mechanic with me if anything?
Jayy Locc Yes
+Jayy Locc do you guys have a shop. cause you need to resurface your heads.
Can you work on my Jetta VR6 I’m in Washington too

No it's the same strength as an 02A. The O2M (Gli) is the strong transmission.
