But the problem isn't going to be solved on twitter. It's all about marketing and TELEVISION. Track is I believe the most participated sport in high school in America. It is only a lack of vision that has and continues to prevent it from becoming much bigger than NBC and the Olympics every four years. Pre-Internet it would definitely be an truly uphill battle but these days there is literally no excuse except lack of vision. The lack of creativity in marketing track athletes by the companies that are paying them is the worst part of it. NONE of the major sponsors do anything creative for track athletes, even though it should be effortless.
Anson, the way your perceiving this is the reason why high quality marketing individuals don’t want to come into track and field - there’s too much appeal to authority and over- respect to people who don’t know how to market a business to a higher degree so it can get more eyes. Michael Johnson or not, facts are facts - you can’t say someone can’t speak to someone due to an athletic hierarchy, when the situation is about pushing the sport to more viewers and larger profits to further grow it. Stop over respecting authority who don’t know how to market a company to get more people in the game and build the company of track and field. MJ’s ego seemed hurt due to someone’s simple factual comment
My brother i respectfully disagree with your take with this M. Johnson and RG III take. Im with Justin Gatlin whole heartily. Although M. Johnson is a legend in track n field, he's one of my top all time favorite track athelete, and much respect to him. He has the right to be critical of track however from a promotion standpoint I do believe he can be just a little more supportive to raise the popularity and image of track n field so that track can be recognized and respected more.
Were the words 'Collective Bargaining' that exists in all these other actual professional sports even uttered in this 'beef'?! Without unionisation and an official agreement that sets standards/minimums when it comes to annual pay, number of races/competitions, healthcare etc., then all of this while entertaining is ultimately meaningless!
Absolutely this. T&F isn't treated as a business with a product. There's no machine that powers the narratives, supports the athletes, and more. Without it, it'll always be an uphill battle.
