  • This has got to be the classiest car I’ve ever gotten the chance to own and work on, they don’t make em like this anymore! I plan on doing a full restoration on this 65 Cadillac coupe deville, but for now let’s just see if we can get it running and driving.

    what a beautiful car, america that i loved (not like today with, plastic, computered, misshappen, japanized boxes). If you want to protect this car and be definitively efficient against rust , you should put grease everywhere. grease is the only thing very efficient against rust. put grease between metal and carpet, inside door, behind metallic bumper, under the vehicle, behind the repairs you can make (everywhere inside the body - hidden erea - instead of using paint), hollow areas (necessarily hidden, so no need to be aesthetic). For rear wings unreachable with a paintbrush, use an extender and pour old oil everywhere each year. Rust almost always comes from the inside and welds. Handyman Experience - 35 years. From france

    I was gifted a 1965 cadillac calais 4 door coupe. It hasn't ran in 12 years. The steering wheel pops up when you pull on it, and the brakes seem to seized up on me becausethe car wont bunge even when pushing it on neutral. Any advice?

    • @Rustwrangler
      @Rustwrangler  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Some of these old caddy’s had a telescopic steering column, mine does not, and I don’t know much about the ones that do. As far as the brakes go, mine was pretty hard to push in neutral as well before I started working on it, might just be from sitting so long, I would pull each drum off if you can and inspect everything on the brakes, if things look good, you can adjust the pads in just a little to not be so tight, otherwise rebuild them.

      @Rustwrangler was wondering, when I do a break pad replacement on each 4 wheels, do I need to pump the brakes after I'm done with each one, one by one or pump all 4 at the same time when im done? And should I leave the cap on when I'm pumping or cap off? It's a 2019 chevy impala, off topic, but just need help. Thanks

    does this have the same type of telescoping steering wheel like the 66-67 tornado does? on mine you turn the large center knob thing counterclockwise then pull or push steering wheel to adjust, also I wonder if this one has the auto high headlamps? are you going to mount bull horns on the hood like they do in Texas? :) :)

    • @Rustwrangler
      @Rustwrangler  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Haha, no bull horns for me. I don’t believe it has a telescoping steering wheel, at least not as far is I could tell, and for the headlights, there’s a dimmer switch on the floor, so I don’t believe they are auto high headlights.

    • @Rustwrangler
      @Rustwrangler  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! I had read something about the vacuum on these cars causing issues, unfortunately as you could probably tell, there’s a few parts including the air cleaner missing from the engine compartment. But other than that, it actually runs quite well, and the idle bumps down a notch when it warms up.

    All the power window motors are rebuildable, but God love you getting the inner door latch handle bolt off. You'll see you can't remove the armrest pad to get access to the bolt holding the handle on. So you must fuss. Put it on first when re-installing cause if you drop it you have to pull the door card apart to get it! The Dash pad comes off easy giving access from the top down to every thing. You must remove the A pillar trim and just the screws along the front edge of the dash it has clips along the windshield. Do Not loose the chrome caps on he fender turn indicators. They snap on a ball clip. I used epoxy to attach a wire so if it pops off it is wired to the fender. Someone took one of mine at a car show. It took 2 years to find one and cost $200.00! I may have a inner door pull if you are interested I'll look for them. The lower high-beam headlight bezels have two visible screws and two lower nuts you must remove from behind. If anyone has replaced those headlight they won't be there. It is a good indicator that it is a low mileage if they are still there, but bad for you if you have to remove them.

    • @Rustwrangler
      @Rustwrangler  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow, you sound like a guy who’s been around a few caddy’s before. I’m definitely going to go check to see if the nuts are on the back of the high beam headlight bezels. I’m noticing that nothing is cheap for these things, but I just ran into a guy earlier today who may actually have all of the trim pieces I need yet, so here’s to hoping. Thanks for all of the tips.
