Ian, this series is the best! Seriously, a channel dedicated to rig overviews would be great. Wheelin’ video and how-to’s are awesome but how many times have you been watching a video, see a cool rig, and then just want to know more about it? Literally just went through this watching the Unreal Adventure, specially when it came to Chris Durham’s rig. To this day I still go back to Pirate threads about specific Jeep’s looking for ideas.
I LOVE 2dr short bed trucks. It's just for me, by myself and if i could get into it I would most definitely have one. I very much LOVED my 2dr 2wd Dakota that I put 249,000 miles on before she got wrecked.
I really want my Gladiator to be an extended cab with a 6’ bed. I don’t like the proportions in front of the rear fenders and I only need room in the backseat area for my dog
No, not what I think I want. I absolutely want a two door. That J6 concept is exactly what I want. For a guy with no kids and single, jeep can take my money for one. 😂
I’ve wanted a 2 door gladiator for a long time. I remember seeing that Comanche on rockstar garage channel and wanting a 2 door Jeep truck. I got my hands on a Comanche and planned to build it out, then moved across the country and couldn’t afford to take it with me. So I sold it and miss that truck. I wish Jeep would come out with a 2 door gladiator and I’d hit the lotto so I can buy one and make it an insane hardcore rock crawler!
Always loved this color combination. Turned out incredible. We now have the JLU/JT cab back available for converting 4 door JLUs and you can also do the 2 door cab conversion and even for JTs that make then into a 2 door and a very LOOOOOOONGGGGG bed.
I drove 2 door mini pickups in the 80’s and 90’s, I think people would buy them if they were cheap enough but even the 2 door wranglers are getting harder to find (at least in my area in Minnesota) And definitely not cheap. Yours turned out great and I’m enjoying the walk around videos.
Thanks for watching...yes trucks have crazy....we were just talking g the other day about how is 2013 I bought a RAM crew cab tradesman Cummins for 35G BRAND NEW!!! That same truck is now 80K
@BigTireGarage I paid 8,400.00 for my 91 f150 2wd standard cab long bed 4.9 m5od. Custom no frills. Same truck today 50k easy. PS I 4wd swapped it in 92.
Hot rod’ing a jeep! “If the car you want isn’t available build it yourself!” I can relate, I wanted a wagon car that was rarely available. Therefore I also built something not available for myself, and for fun I built it in an older chassis that was never offered in the configuration I wanted. Wagon-car, I6 turbo diesel, manual rear wheel drive. 240 Volvo (prior ‘85 USA).
I have been dreaming of this since since I was driving my TJ back in the day. I have a K20 to play with so I probably won't attempt this. Would be fun though.
The proportions are pretty spot on . The only line that is just a bit off for me is the top of the bed and the cab line with the top off , the 4 door gladiators are off too . If you had a 2 door with just the windshield and a straight body line with half doors all the way to the back like an 80s or 90s mini truck that would look killer !
Trucks I own: '89 4Runner (2-door, manual), '04 Tacoma (2-door, manual), '81 Scrambler (2-door, manual). Guess what truck I would buy new if they made them (and weren't outrageously expensive). But they don't so I'll continue driving and restoring the trucks I have.
Nice build, I've thought about doing something similar and putting the retro (J truck) front clip on it and a hemi or diesel. I'd go for an olive drab or jungle camo paint scheme or wrap. So many ways to personalize builds, and they are all fun. Cheers 🍻
There was one built in Australia in 2014 with a steel tray not a tub, The local Jeep dealer called him because they had several inquiries about a 2 door ute (pick up) that people had seen driving around and wanted to order
I had a Comanche in the early 90’s and loved it. I’ve currently got a 99 TJ, 14 JKU and a 2 door JL. I’ve looked for a kit to turn my JKU into a 2 door truck and they stopped making them. If you know anyone making the cab portion PLEASE let me know.
I’m in Texas and there was small company building these well before Jeep came out with the gladiator. I believe they stopped doing these when Jeep came out with the gladiator. I personally went to go look at one to check on a price. What they wanted for them was not in my price range.
i've always wanted the original TJ Brute, i still want a 2 door truck... I get what you are saying that people say they want it but sales show they really don't. I want a 2 door! I'm just one person that wants a longer bed, I have zero need for a crew cab...
I actually listened to a very interesting podcast with the head design guru feom Jeep. They build the Jeep with the aftermarket in mind and understand that people will modify the trucks
@BigTireGarage well, that's a bummer. I'm also bummed there wasn't an opportunity to get the Bad Ol Wagon out on a trail with the Pack Rat before it was sent to its new owner. Schedules, and costs such as they are.
Difference between a talker and a buyer. A talker says, oh I would buy that if they built it blah blah yack yack, when it hits the market, "oh that price is to high, can't or wont buy it" A buyer goes and buys the maxed out Rubicon, no talk, no noise. The rest of us are in the middle area and just buy whats on the market.
They used to, and they were very cool. When Jeep launched the Gladiator they stopped..there are still a few packages floating around and some still being built
They could have made it an option to special order a two door, and the four door is perfect anyways, and the manual Trans in the new gladiator isn't even quality like the automatic is , I mean the AX 15 will always be the beast.
I'm old, so i see 4 doors on a pickup as a crime against nature. But seriously, a 4 door pickup is for someone who needs a car but has an unfulfilled fantasy about being a cool, working, off road guy.
The reason nobody is buying 2 door pickups, is because we can't effing find one. Every damned thing in my area is a damned 4 door. What am I? An effing soccer mom? That's who's buying them, soccer moms, both male and female. Yes, there are male soccer moms. They buy a 4 door pickup, cuz they don't want to drive a mini van. Mini vans aren't cool. Iffin Tim can bring back the "Extended" Dodge body, I bet they'd sell, maybe even better than 4 doors. That being said, your Gladiator is just right. The stock V-6? Perfect for yer kid. Wrong one for you. If he breaks it, you gotta fix it. Iffin you break it, you can make improvements.
Ian, I want to build one. How do you start? Where do you get the skill sets. I have had 3 years of power-tech in Jr high and 4 yrs of auto shop in high school, but they never taught me anything like that.🤔🛻
If Jeep built one I would buy it. This turned out great. Nice work, Ian.
It would be a killer truck! They should build one!
What a great looking Jeep 👍👍
Appreciate that!
Ian, this series is the best!

Man I miss a good Pirate build thread!!!
The commanche in the background. Cant wait for more updates on it.
It's coming...just working through a few other projects first
I LOVE 2dr short bed trucks. It's just for me, by myself and if i could get into it I would most definitely have one. I very much LOVED my 2dr 2wd Dakota that I put 249,000 miles on before she got wrecked.
Yeah I'm a big fan of 2 door trucks!
I built a tj with a cummins R2.8 because of you and Fred
That is awesome to hear!!! How do you like it?
@ love it but i think it may end up being unsupported
@cuda5194 I know some peeps at Cummins....and I can say I don't it will
@ glad to hear that ! who do i talk to to get the “new” tune mine is a older 130 hp tune
@@cuda5194 your Cummins dealer should be able to update the tune
Great job Eian. Keep up the great work.
Thanks, appreciate it!
I really want my Gladiator to be an extended cab with a 6’ bed. I don’t like the proportions in front of the rear fenders and I only need room in the backseat area for my dog

The Comanche is a great pickup
@ it sure is! But an actual gladiator from Jeep would be much cooler in my opinion! Although, yours is definitely the best one out there!
@@StormbornJKU the two built by Jeep and Greg Henderson are better than mine IMO

I have to admit, that’s a cool idea.
2 door always looks better and the break over angle is better. Does it actually translate to better off-roading?
I think ot will...It would be even better if I had "bobbed" the bed
I’d buy that from you if you ever want to sell it. Been thinking of finding a first gen Brute, but want a slightly bigger Jeep. Came out great!
I don't have any plans to sell.. but ypu never know
There was one built in Australia in 2014 with a steel tray not a tub,
The local Jeep dealer called him because they had several inquiries about a 2 door ute (pick up) that people had seen driving around and wanted to order
Yeah there are some flatbed versions with the Gr8 Top bulkhead as well
Sweet build! Question for ya what intake is that on the LS? It looks like the low profile that I need for my swap.
It's just a sheetmetal one from Amazon
Are you willing to share the details on the paint and primer you used on that Jeep?
It's from a company called TCP Global
I had a Comanche in the early 90’s and loved it. I’ve currently got a 99 TJ, 14 JKU and a 2 door JL. I’ve looked for a kit to turn my JKU into a 2 door truck and they stopped making them. If you know anyone making the cab portion PLEASE let me know.
You want.to talk with GR8Tops
I would love to have a shop , so l could do soom of the same type of up grades to my trucks.
When everyone says they want a stripped down Jeep what they really mean is they want one they can afford.
True also
Well my JL has manual windows and locks. The ole lady doesn’t like a stick so it is an automatic. My TJ is a 5 speed. I want the NSG370.
I'm currently collecting parts to build my own. I'm obsessed with this rig! Also what top are you running on it now?
That is the new version of the Gr8top top...so you can run freedom panels of aftermarket sunrider like I have

Yes. Those are the Brutes...cool trucks but yes pricey
Will you be doing the play by play at KOH this year ?
Yes..I will
Do you think I could use a motobuilt bed bob kit instead of using a gladiator bed?
I am sure you could
Do you think this could be done to a 4xe? With the battery pack location staying stock.
Greg Henderson used a 4xe and it turned out pretty RAD
I would've bough two 😔 now I've got dreams of making a single cab single cab DJ5 Pickup. 👨🏻🏭
I'll name it Return To Sender 😉
I want a 6" box ,build on the 118" wheel base
Your hair is like an optical illusion it looks like you're always hanging upside down 👍
Ha Ha, yeah...the hair at this point is part of who I am
@BigTireGarage I love it you've had it like that for years
i've always wanted the original TJ Brute, i still want a 2 door truck... I get what you are saying that people say they want it but sales show they really don't. I want a 2 door! I'm just one person that wants a longer bed, I have zero need for a crew cab...
I hear ya..but man can you put a bunch of stuff in the back seat!!!
If Jeep built proper 4 wheel drives, there wouldn't be any aftermarket parts companies. So they are doing a great job by giving so many people jobs.
I actually listened to a very interesting podcast with the head design guru feom Jeep. They build the Jeep with the aftermarket in mind and understand that people will modify the trucks
How long until it shows up on the ultimate... err, Unreal Adventure?
My invitation to that event keeps getting lost in the mail

If they had it would be sitting in my driveway instead, I am waiting for Toyota or Mazda to bring one out
It seems short sighted to not build one

TCP Global
@BigTireGarage there's a few options for single stage, any more hints😅

Nice.
Too bad with that tool box, keep it shallow, then with space under, add the M715 channel with doors on both sides.
Could of done that...but I don't have the body skills to make that happen
Why do you have a University of Arizona decal on the back window?
My son took the truck to Tucson when he went to school there
Who makes the paint!?
TCP Global I believe it was

What about AEV Brute. It's a 2 door jeep pickup
