- This 1977 Lincoln Mark V Continental is a one owner car, and has been sitting forgotten for 27 years. This car gives hardcore gangster vibes! Yeah buddy!
Follow along as I try to get this car back on the road.
#Lincoln #willitrun #revival
Those are beautiful classics ! They truly are special !
God love you man. I'm glad I watched. Saving an old Mark 5. Of course I hit the like button. Those things are royalty.
Definitely would have been top of the line back in the day, this one has seen better days but it’s still got plenty of potential. Thanks for checking it out!
This MARK V is LOADED with options and has the very rare Versailles Interior Option. This was, for the time, one very expensive MARK V. Duel Exhaust is another very rare option.
Hey Rust I like the Lincoln she is kool got to try n save her
Thanks Steve.
@@Rustwrangler def buddy you do kool stuff keep ehm coming man
Check out my truck she is a beast
Thanks for this video. I really enjoyed watching you troubleshoot each issue.
Those Mark V's have a very strong frame. I know someone who cut the top off to make a convertible, and he trailers a Continental Mark II with the Mark V. So just do that (cut the top off)
Covertables are a females car you drive one you lose your man card
@@catsbyondrepairdam lol
I'd make it a daily driver, but that's me . . . I love it
Haha, yea it’s a pretty sweet car especially the seats!
Excellent!,..Great Job Guy,.Hope You Continue and Fix er Up n Bring it Back to it`s Former Glory
Wow! Can't believe you did it. You knew everything about everything on that car. Enjoyed watching the full video.
I like how you shoot your videos, straight to the point and get an overall view of the car. Lot of guys on TH-cam waste time talking about themselves or insignificant things you are straight to the point, take a look at the trunk, the interior, then pop the hood and get started on the engine. Great video!
Thanks a lot, I appreciate that!
Great job on getting that ole Lincoln running and on the road.
Thank you!
The rust on the roof it could be repaired with fiberglass layer and bondo and a new windshield you have your self a Lincoln continental 👍
I like the way you’re thinking, and I’m not opposed to that if I’m being honest.
After no spark, i screamed, change the neverstart box😂😂
I was all ford back in my late teens and remember that spark box on the firewall. the engine in my 74 cougar would just shut off at random at any time and all I had to do was open the hood and bang on the ignition control box and it would always start ! :)
@@stevent3450 my mom had a 79 Cordova we had to do that with hated that car
hey buddy we are proud of you keep up the good work its a joy to see you making it work agin😊
Thank you!
GREAT JOB MAN
Just stumbled across you and love your content. Will be watching more ❤
Awesome, thank you for watching!
I love the sound of that starter!
Turn it into a convertible it would look awesome. And I think it would be a easy job to do I watched the video on pole barn garage he did this. Good luck with your project
Just recently bought a 79 and immediately saw this on my recommended. Amazing video!
Nice, enjoy it! Hopefully it doesn’t have as much rust as this one.
@@RustwranglerI mean she got rust for sure, just not that much 😂
LOL, Love the intro. Nice project.
Haha, thank you!
I enjoyed watching that 460 engine come to life. Starting in 1977, the C6 transmission uses Type CJ (Dexron) transmission fluid, not Type F.
your amazing thank you for a very educational video!🤔
Well you got me for the entire video. Man you have some faith in that jack! 😂 I saw the jack stand off cam. Maybe it's one of them harbor freight killers
Yea, I’ll be using the jack stands, had a couple comments on that.
This video really help me with my car
The best way to fix the roof is find one with a good roof and cut the roof off and weld on the new roof it's not to bad I did it to a 70 chevelle.
Nice, I’m definitely keeping my eyes open for a donor.
Great job bringing her bk to life.I was thinking of buying a 79...That distributor looks like a pain w those lil clips..had a bunch of lincolns.Cbeers.P
These Lincoln’s are classy cars! Distributor was a bit of a pain, but since they’re right up on the front of the engine, at least it’s easy to get to.
Well done my friend. slow and patient ... working through the issues until your good to go. awsesome vid. No sped up shit with music. Cheers.
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it!
I haven't watched the entire video yet but I just wanted to mention that intro was hilarious 😂
Haha, thank you! I worked really hard on that!
I love 70s lincoln this is 1 gorgeous car and very durable ❤
Fun project! Keep her on the road. Never a fan of derby cars taking out our big classics.
I agree, this would be a beaut on the road.
Very well done that Man 💯👋
Thank you!
love MarkV"s , have fun with it
Will do, thank you.
That's a nice sounding tractor.
I have a 79 Bill Blass Mark V. Without a doubt the smoothest riding car I've ever owned to date. The car arrives at it's destination before I do. 🤣 Get that boat back on the road!
Cheers
Haha, yea that hood goes on forever!
Nice last yr.of bigger Lincoln . Doesn't yours have 400 v8 instead of the 460. Nice
@@PaulENagle-hc6pf yes it does. It does have 135,000 miles but I'm a fluids guy so it's maintained and I'm able to fix many parts in my own unlike cars today. I wouldn't even begin to know where to start. It drives like new and floats down the road. But that's boats do 🤣. I get about 10-12 miles per gallon and I'm ok with that. Had an older Toyota truck from the early 80's rear end me recently. His entire front end of his truck totalled. I had a scratch on the bumber and a couple scratches on the wheel hump was a slight dent. The highway patrol was in shock as to the little damage to my car. I told him that's why I drive it often. Safety.
That’s a very rare Bill Blass .. Top of the line in 1977.
What a shame.
Rust Wrangler Friend Hello this Car can be saved For sure, never was a fan of those vinyl top cars but you could replace the top roof skin, with new metal i Highly recommend that !! I would try to stay away from that Bondo, or fiberglass, for patching, that roof back together !! You should try to see if you could find a good donor car too cut the top off of that to fix that roof back together properly , because this car is worth it !!
For sure, I’ll probably leave that for the guy that buys it, but it will definitely need to be repaired with replacement sheet metal because the sun roof slides back underneath that rotted section.
good job!
Thank you!
good video
Dude good job, perfect TH-cam time killer! Wouldn’t mind seeing a video where you clean it up.
Thank you! Not sure if I’ll have a follow up video on this car yet, because it may be sold already. But I did clean the interior up a bit, and it is in great shape!
@@Rustwrangler that’s cool man, hope someone gets it back on the road or at least makes good use of the parts
Enjoyed the video and want to see more. For the love of God, put a jack stand under it. All it takes is that jack to fail or slip and your a driveway stain.
what a beautiful car, america that i loved (not like today with, plastic, computered, misshappen, japanized boxes).--. If you restore this car and want to protect this car and be definitively efficient against rust , you should put grease everywhere. grease is the only thing very efficient against rust. put grease between metal and carpet, inside door, behind metallic bumper, under the vehicle, behind the repairs you can make (everywhere inside the body - hidden erea - instead of using paint), hollow areas (necessarily hidden, so no need to be aesthetic). For rear wings unreachable with a paintbrush, use an extender and pour old oil everywhere each year. Rust almost always comes from the inside and welds. Handyman Experience - 35 years. From france

I always wonder...when a car has hidden headlights, and they're closed, it's like it's asleep...what is it dreaming about?
Haha!
It needs a whole carburetor rebuild to be able to start easier and not burp when you turn it off. The idle is about 500 rpm’s high from what I hear and it’s probably to keep the car idling from that bad carb
good for you buddy.... parts cars for sure....
I loved my 78 Lincoln Mk V with a 460 got 26 mpg hiway i've owed about 5 lincolns
Dang, that’s pretty good mileage, maybe I should make this my daily driver. Haha!
Wow what a shame man she was a beauty in the day
I know right, hopefully whoever ends up with it can restore it.
If you ain’t testing, you guessing. Parts cannon!
That man has guts..
It is also impressive to tackle constantly new problems, and solve them in turn.
But is there a part II..?
When will it arrive?
Thank you, there was a part 2 where I was on a mission to make it do a burnout. If you scroll through my videos the thumbnail says “burnout or bust”.
@@Rustwrangler Yes! - found and watched it now. "Do a burn out". (it's 22:00 here now).
Very good mechanical detective work.
Of course, the car's appearance looks hopeless now, but with patience, thorough grinding of rust/bodywork, painting and well-being - it will be decently good.
The ignition switch is down in the lower column, i believe
that's unfortunate about the roof. You should do what @Pole Barn Garage did. Cut the roof off and make this into a convertible
Thought about that too, but it rains a fair amount where I’m at.
Nice job! But please, use jack stands. Accidents happens 😢
Yeah brother
Never even clean all that windshield lyrics flying in your face
Daily driver for somebody for sure.
A lot of gremlins in that car but it was interesting to watch you tackle them one by one. She would be a money pit to bring back to original but also interesting to see. I'm not holding my breath, they were money pits from the factory. You had to have it to own one. We lose so much because people don't have the ability or knowledge to take care of what they own.
Yea for sure, it would definitely take a little money to get this thing fixed up.
If you ever wanna sell her It would be good company next to my maroon 78 Cartier. I love the Mark Vs and have owned many over the years. got my first one for $25 when I was 16. The rust under those Landau tops are the big killer on most Vs unfortunately.
@stvkomer I’m getting it ready to post up for sale as we speak, if you want to email me at Therustwrangler@gmail.com we can talk more.
Cut the roof off..add a chassis bracing..voila convertible..also dump the autolite carb for a holley and instantly rid the bogging and prolly add a couple HP...that era of autolites were not great.
Qual liquido você colocou no radiador quero dizer qual liquido de arrefecimento ?
I have a 78 Lincoln mark v and my sending unit is stuck on empty. I was told that the float might have holes in it where gas getting in making it to heavy. I want to change the float are all float compatible or do I need a ford or Lincoln do you have any advice.
I’d get a replacement float meant for the specific carb. that you have.
@@Rustwrangler I don’t know if I have a 2100 or 2150.
I’m sure it was a beautiful car back in the day. But, this would be a expensive restoration. I had a mark IV every thing was power on it. You need a donar car. Congratulations on the start. Part it out or scrape it. Too expensive to fix up. 💯👊
I think you are right, I started pricing out all of the parts and pieces I would need and it started to add up pretty quickly.
This car has the same two tone blue as the 79 my old next door neighbor's son promised to sell me when he was done with it. He moved out and I never seen the car again. It was absolutely frigging gorgeous! When I seen him visiting his parents he apologized saying he forgot about it. I would love to see this restored back to its original glory. The color being the same as the 79 is what really peaked my interest.
I’m not sure how much more I’ll do with it, but hopefully whoever ends up with it will be able to restore it.
The 460 made a whopping 197 horsepower in 1977. Throw away all the smogger crap, throw on decent heads and cam, and it'll be a rocket. That early emissions junk didn't work anyway.
My dad had the exact car when i was a kid been looking for one
Same color too?
Welcome to the 70's - A whole lot of cars had that dieseling issue - there should be an anti-dieseling solenoid that completely closes the throttle - no idle at all - when the key is turned off.
We used to shut our car off in gear (drive or reverse) and the "load" would stop it dieseling.
well pleased for you mate getting her driving great when all the work pays off take care
Thank you, and thanks for watching!
Parts cannon engaged😂
Haha, that’s no lie, I threw everything at this car!
The good old day’s
Good job! But being a ford only guy. It’s pains me to watch you work on that ignition system. Lol
Can this roof be replaced.?
I tried looking for replacement sheet metal for the back section of the roof, but could find anything. May need custom metal work to replace it.
in your intro you need a Cowboy hat but I see your a bit tall :) I had a 77 cougar and had the same problems with the ignition
Yea, haha, I would have had to scoot down even farther on the seat to fit with a cowboy hat.
That was definitely an odd situation with the ignition switch, and until I got in behind the dash, I didn’t realize I would be able to adjust it.
Someone would twist the key way to hard is what caused The ignition switch to slide up a little bit
Isn’t there gonna be a part2 on
The Mark V? The idea would be a mechanical restoration series.
Should have another video out on it shortly.
HEY RUST WRANGLER,, YOU DIDNT TELL US WHERE YOU GOT THAT OLD BABY ,, IF THAT OLD CAR COULD TALK WOW!! WHAT RIDES IT WOULD TELL US GOING DOWN THE ROAD... MAX AND I HAVE BEEN WATCHING TH-cam VIDEOS WHERE PEOPLE GOT BURIED IN THERE CARS OR MOTOR CYCYLES IN THE GRAVE YARDS BECAUSE THEY LOVED THEM SO MUCH .. THIS CAR LOOKS LIKE IT WAS JUST PULLED OUT OF THE GROUND RUSTING IN THAT HOLE FOR SO LONG.. WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH OLD GIRL..GREAT DASH,, AND SEATS YA!! MY SON MAX AND I THOUGHT IT WAS THE DIS. CAP,, WOW!! WHAT LESSON YOU GAVE US ON THAT WE NEVER OUT OF MY YEARS WORKED ON A CAR WITH A DIS. CAP LIKE THAT WITH THOSE SMALL PINS AND OTHER THINGS.. I THINK THE OLD OWNER GAVE UP AND LEFT IT ..WE LIKE THOSE FLIP LIGHTS ..SO HAPPY IT STARTED!!!! SOME TIMES THESE NEW PARTS THE CARS DONT LIKE IT,,, WASNT MADE ALMOST THE SAME IN ITS DAYS.. MAX LIKES THE HORSES YOU HAVE NEAR THE BARN... WOW!! AFTER 27YR.S ITS ROLLING .. YOU NEED TO KEEP MAKE ANOTHER VIDEO ON THIS CAR!!! THIS WAS SO AWSOME AND VERY HELPFUL .. THANKS FROM MAX 7 YR.S OLD AND I ..
Thank you Ronald, this is definitely a neat old car, I’m not quite sure what I want to do with this car yet, but I appreciate your thoughts.
Anyway I can get in contact with you to ask some questions??
Definitely, feel free to email me at Therustwrangler@gmail.com
Since the roof is so gone it would be cool if it was just done with a steel frame and plexiglass
That dieseling sounds like a bad carburator or timings is off......
Fix it those are good cars get a donor roof it can be done.
The size of this car is jaw dropping but the years before were even bigger. Hard to imagine this was the downsized version but it’s true!
Yea, it just blows me away how long that hood is! Haha, I love these old boats!
460 Lincoln!
At furst sight, I say pull the engine and transmission and junk the rest.
Nice! I'm not a big fan of "patina" but I think this car would be perfect to satin-clear and slam. Would look really tough.
I agree, it would look pretty awesome if it was slammed!
At 70 years of age i have owned many 1970's Lincolns. Have done lots of tepairs and a few restorations. Unfortunately what you have there is a very good parts car. The cost of restoration would far exceed the value. You are much better off to spend more money on one that needs very little if any work. You can still buy a good driver quality car for 6K. 10 to 12k will buy you a very nice car and 20 to 25k will buy you an exceptional car. In my experience, this one is just too far gone. Best of luck in your future endeavors.
I would use 10w40 or 15w40
Crush it ,you can find one in much better condition.
First video I saw when I typed mark v restoration! Saw your vid, and I was amazed at how you broke down the problems one at a time to get this Dino back to life! New sub.! Great video!❤❤
Thank you! I appreciate the support.
Would you sell it?
Yes I would.
How much would you want? I live in Wyoming. What area are you in?
@@Markbluejem67 I’m in western Washington, I don’t have a ton into it, at this point I’d probably just want close to what I have into it, I’m right around $1500 into it so far.
@@Rustwrangler Yes, I am very interested. I am taking the first week in September off. I could come get it then. How can I DM you to give you my info?
@@Markbluejem67 maybe email me at Therustwrangler@gmail.com and we can exchange more info.
90% of the time these fords with no spark is the ignition module.
So that’s a con nenal , I thought it was a Continental.
Lol make her a rag top with no rag lol
If 3 won't get you home 5 never would have. ha ha.
Make it a convertible
Vinal tops kill cars, moisture gets trapped between vinal and steel and rusts them out!
Yea, they sure do, and it’s a bummer because a lot of them were really neat cars.
You can still find lots of thunderbirds and Lincoln's in the junkyard to cut and replace that roof.
that's what I told him thanks.
For God's sake use jack stands !!!!
Starter switch is bad
talk about " clapped out !!!" the 460 engine is poor quality like FORD is.....
Yea this car was rough! But it ran pretty well, had a posi in the rear and spun the tires with ease!
Vinyl roofs were the most idiotic feature ever. Who thought that putting the interior on the outside was smart? Especially when coupled with a water absorbing foam pad.
I agree, this car would be in great shape if it wasn’t for that.
Those landau tops are horrible. Cut it off and make it a convertible.
why....just why........spend 8 or 9 hundred ......and get a better one
動くようにしたのはいいがこれから先は?
やるなら中途半端かなせずにフルレストアしてやってくれよ!
Those brain boxes are the worst
Yea, I didn’t realize it at first, but apparently those are pretty problematic.
