Just want to let you know that I’m both a swiftie and a fan of yours, Mr meat. Your Taylor video was both hilarious and spooky AND I think you’re handsome.
This was a cool synopsis. Another cool potential inspiration for santa that's worth looking at is the prechristian slavic figure marozko, and as a side note gryla, the yule lads, and the yule cat are pretty fun too.
The .05 seconds that “Need To” plays when he’s talking about the girls who don’t like the holidays really hit me. I’m like extremely sad because my gf of 4 years broke up with me
I could imagine that whole period of inventing the concept of toys being made by elves; someone was trying to pitch the concept of them being made by dwarves or gnomes (you know from those Tolkien books) and when it finally went to the higher ups someone who didn't know mystical creatures was like, "they're made by elves, like in the those Tolkien books".
The article mentions that Woden/Oden were a partial inspiration for father charismas, and according to Tolkien he based Gandalf off of one of the traditional depictions of Woden/Oden. So hunter isn't actually that far off when says tolkien took influence from santa for his characters. It's just not as direct as he thinks, lol.
Holy shit. The ballistics required to launch Santa from East to the West is insane. The launch crater would look like something out of DBZ. I'm pretty sure it would cause tornados and tsunamis up and down the coast line.
I love that 2015 movie Krampus so much I bought a 7ft tall replica animatronic of him. He's next to my bed, so I wake up to hime every morning all year round, and he watches over me while I sleep
I pointed out a Wheelchair Santa at Target to my Mom and was genuinely surprised and happy to see a Wheelchair Santa. But my Mom Wasn’t. She Flipped her shit infront of half the stores workers.
Tolkien took most of his influence from Nordic mythology, which is also one of the inspirations for the modern depiction of Santa, among many other things, such as the name of Wednesday (wodin’s day). In fact, Tolkien directly lifted character names from the Norse mythos, in which Gandalf and the line of Durin such as Thror were originally the names of dwarves in Norse mythology
i find that funny, back then if you where a bad poor kid you could heat your home for a while, if you where a good poor kid you got a wood train or doll. to heat your home for a day.
when you showed a picture of sinterklaas when you talked about other cultures adapting santa in their own cultures I was VERY skeptical of where this was going but I'm glad I stuck with it. good video!
Krampus is still a tradition in my counrty. On 6th of December, you gotta clean your boot and put it in the window. Santa gets you chocolate if you were good, and coal from Krampus and a small broom-like object if naughty.
When hunter started talking about Sinterklaas, I was anxiously waiting for him to mention Zwarte Piet (or Black Pete), who only VERY RECENTLY has been removed from the Sinterklaas celebration. 15:58 shows Black Pete, I'll let you guess which one he is.
P.S. He still hasn't entirely been removed from the celebration, some people are still very adamant about how Black Pete's looks. The idea is that they're black from soot due to crawling through chimneys, which doesn't explain their cherry red lips, big golden earrings, and frizzy hair, but ok. Truth was that it would work as an easy disguise so kids wouldn't recognize the kid from a block away, who would pose as Black Pete. These days most people agree that it is no longer appropriate and the Dutch have collectively decided that he will be replaced with "Roetveegpiet", who simply have smudges of soot on their faces, instead of the 'traditional' all-out blackface.
Fun fact about the krampus creature from the movie....Weta workshop in Australia , installed a camera system in the creature suite so the actor could see
I didn't think you'd touch on Odin's depiction. Good on you, it's clear that you've gone DEEP into this as people have been trying to bury things like that
Dude. You forgot the best stuff about shamanic traditions, fly agaric mushrooms eaten by reindeer and tripping as well as igloos to come down into rather than chimneys.

Damn. What camera do you use? It's so clear.
Don't you feel jolly? Don't you feel merry? Don't you feel a little festive?
Just want to let you know that I’m both a swiftie and a fan of yours, Mr meat. Your Taylor video was both hilarious and spooky AND I think you’re handsome.
yeah but have you seen Krampus tho????

She’ll have your head for this.
I love how so many of yall are now part of his audience lmao
I'm queer, but I love his cute brown curls.
This was a cool synopsis. Another cool potential inspiration for santa that's worth looking at is the prechristian slavic figure marozko, and as a side note gryla, the yule lads, and the yule cat are pretty fun too.
0:20 that girl was hot
💀
They still are, except it's in China
You’re looking good dude! Also hair is fantastically maintained good shit lol. We have love for you, and I hope you have a Merry Christmas!🎄
Holy shit. The ballistics required to launch Santa from East to the West is insane. The launch crater would look like something out of DBZ. I'm pretty sure it would cause tornados and tsunamis up and down the coast line.
The number of times I've heard BMTH in your videos tells me your editor has good taste in music.
The sheer quality and quantity of content you put out puts most other TH-camrs to shame (probably because most other TH-camrs don't know how to work).
“THAT IS NOT SANTA!” Lmao, chill mom.
That's... kind of disgusting NGL.
@@mirrorv.m You mean that super woke "Santa" that I can't even talk about without being censured? Yeah... definitely not Santa...
Papa is the annoying art school girl 😂
"In porverty you realize santa isn't real real fucking fast" can testify
Tolkien took most of his influence from Nordic mythology, which is also one of the inspirations for the modern depiction of Santa, among many other things, such as the name of Wednesday (wodin’s day). In fact, Tolkien directly lifted character names from the Norse mythos, in which Gandalf and the line of Durin such as Thror were originally the names of dwarves in Norse mythology
"In poverty, you realize Santa is not real very quickly." Straight FACTS.
i find that funny, back then if you where a bad poor kid you could heat your home for a while, if you where a good poor kid you got a wood train or doll. to heat your home for a day.
Man you know how to bring me out of my depression. One of the best channels to make me laugh and just feel better. Thanks Papa.
Doing the timeline backwards was a bold, and confusing move.
No mention of St. Nicholas resurrecting a bunch of street orphans after finding their stewed remains in a cauldron? That was his best move.
2:18 noice sangriasugarbog sample bro
I see we have another Bogghead in thr comments. Fuck yeah
when you showed a picture of sinterklaas when you talked about other cultures adapting santa in their own cultures I was VERY skeptical of where this was going but I'm glad I stuck with it. good video!
Krampus is still a tradition in my counrty. On 6th of December, you gotta clean your boot and put it in the window. Santa gets you chocolate if you were good, and coal from Krampus and a small broom-like object if naughty.
Appreciate that subtle Bring Me the Horizon at 13:35. The editing on papa's videos can't be matched.
Those art school girls you described at the beginning sound like adults who never let go of their teenage angst
Got that old school Coca-Cola branded snow globe from the '60s. One of my favorite holiday decorations, Coke Santa is best Santa.
holidays for me are tough right now bc my dad passed away in september. these videos make me happy, i love u papa meat
My 4 year old got to tell Santa in person what she wanted and it was so awesome ❤❤
“Clause’s immortality was earned” is the crazy thing 😂😂
Wheelchair Santa will be suing all chimney owners for their lack of ADA compliance
I got potato for Christmas, and I was told to be thankful because it's hard to get potato in winter. We were good kids and always shared.
This vid hit me right in my poverty ridden little heart, god bless my parents
Fun fact about the krampus creature from the movie....Weta workshop in Australia , installed a camera system in the creature suite so the actor could see
2:20 yo hunter in the good ol days was built DIFFERENT
My history teacher every year goes to different places around my town and dresses up as santa and takes pictures with kids and dogs 😎
0:18 for those wondering, that sounded like Pinegrove - Need 2
7:14 it’s funny you mention this, a sequel series that you mention goes over literally that
0:18 need 2 playing in the back was so real.
I didn't think you'd touch on Odin's depiction. Good on you, it's clear that you've gone DEEP into this as people have been trying to bury things like that
When each era is introduced in this video, the songs that play all hit different
16:50 I like the green suit, I like to think he switches it up every year or so from red to green
Not sure if you read comments but do a video on Krampus. That was a good one. Also love the videos dude
Dude. You forgot the best stuff about shamanic traditions, fly agaric mushrooms eaten by reindeer and tripping as well as igloos to come down into rather than chimneys.
It wasn't the joy on my son's face opening his presents, but the Eyewitness call back that made my Christmas.
4:43 Run, Opera, run !!! 😂👍
