The fact he had that many successful flights with his own invention means that he had something. I looked up what happened and apparently the biggest flaw to his design was that it was top-heavy and had a tendency to slip into nosedives which were difficult for him to pull out of. He ended up in one after a gust of wind messed with his glide’s stability, and that’s why he crashed. Nowadays planes can endure a ton of random weather events, obviously, but in order for him to have flown successfully it must have required predictable weather.

The Killdozer story is interesting. People hail him as some sort of hero for standing up to The Man and not killing anyone but he definitely tried to kill a lot of people, and a lot of why he got into a conflict was because he was a giant asshole.
