I uninstalled IE from Win 10 and now half of my desktop icons are just blank white paper icons. I have cleared thumbnail cache via disc cleanup and via cmd prompt. I have also tried advanced system settings/performance-check/uncheck thumbnails instead of icons, to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Love your videos!
Can you help me? I went though all these steps and i get this error message when i click to open a picture . . . what is wrong? it says " caller specified wait timed out before the operation completed because a host termination is queued" ????? i don's know what this means . . i hope you can help!!! I guess one i couldn't do that you suggested because the other thing i don't know how to run a command as an administrator???
If none of these methods work for you like myself then try and copy all of your images that don't show their corresponding thumbnails and paste all of them into a different drive/memory stick/portable hard drive and then copy and paste them back to the original location. This was the only thing that worked for me, hope it helps!
I had literally tried the same steps over and over again in these videos and this is what worked in the end. Just used an external hard drive, cut and paste them onto it and then plopped them back into my picture folder on my pc and BOOM there's the thumbnails! How strange but thanks for the this!!
I was doing everything in the video. Other videos I have watched also talked about the same methods as this video. Copying and pasting the pictures from an external drive worked. Thank you for the tip! I'm unsure why it does this though. Hopefully someone has an answer!
I clicked on the windows button, typed folder options, then clicked view menu, then unchecked "always show icons, never thumbnails," and all images in my file were magically restored! Many thanks our friends at Britec for their help, and brilliant windows 11 technical expertise!
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!! I'm working on a D&D campaign that makes things a lot easier to see what I'm uploading for players to see the board/ handouts, etc. Again, thank you
PERFECT! clicked on the windows button, typed folder options, then clicked view menu, then unchecked "always show icons, never thumbnails," and all images in my files were restored!
Thank you!!!!! It was the update that finally worked! I've been trying for months to fix this problem and tried everything on all the other video tutorials here on TH-cam and none of them worked. Your first solution was the key!!! Thank you for posting!
Ahhh thank you so much mate! That Cmd, where you shut down explorer etc sorted all issues! Absolute Legend! You have a subscribe from me! Thank you again lad
Good one Brian. When I had this problem, I went thru all these measures and still had problems. What affected the thumbnail generation was my media player itself ( I use MPC-media player from K-Lite). When I uninstalled and reinstalled - voila ! Back again ! Just a little head's up to the various things that can cause this problem. Thanx Mate
Same here, but Dropbox is what's causing the missing thumbnails on my machine. Have to cut every image and paste into new folder to generate the thumbnails then paste it back again. Which is fine for a folder or two, but I have thousands of folders, so that's not a good fix.
Me either, this just started to happen to me on Tuesday, no issues on my laptops though, I'm a DJ and it's so important to be able to see the cover art when searching for mp3s
Second fix in the Disk Cleanup section fixed it for me, thanks a lot man, after (begrudgingly) switching to Win11 it was a massive pain in the arse to find any of my stuff and no other fix I tried had worked, even the CMD stuff, turns out to have been a simple checkbox, no clue why that was on by default, no clue who would prefer all the files to be completely impossible to be differentiated Appreciate it man
Thank you!!! I'm so glad I found this video. I watched many videos trying to find out how to fix this problem and I was beating my head against a wall till now.
YES! THANK YOU! I have watched many videos that have failed me but your 1st suggestion worked for me. I can't thank you enough. Windows is SO Annoying!
i love you man, this is a big help, i have been manually opening my photos to detelete the unwanted ones, it cost me so much time to do it, very big thanks dude, you are a angel, a god and a savior.
UFFFF THANK YOU SO MUCH! VIEW ADVANCED SSTEM SETTINGS IS WHAT WORKED FOR ME!!! THANK YOUUUU. im printing pictures and i couldnt see unless i double click each one.
Thank you ever so much for this video. My head was ready to explode trying to fix my picture file but now it's back. I still haven't figured out why this happens to begin with but at least now I can fix it. God Bless!
My problem is the cover art in my all my mp3 files will not display in file explorer, they show up in WMP, but not in file explorer, this just started a few days ago. I've tried everything and nothing seems to solve this issue. The strange thing is they do show up on both my laptops but not on my desktop PC
one mistake and it is very common. You DO NOT have to hit apply before hitting OK. Here is why. When you hit apply, you are telling windows to apply the changes you made but keep the current dialog box open. When you hit OK, you are also telling windows to apply the changes you made but to also go ahead and close the dialog box. Since you intend to close the dialog box anyway, you just have to click ok, with no need to click apply.
I have been wracking my brain for days trying to get this fixed. I know all about the fixes in Explorer & such, but it never occurred to me to Update my stupid computer. LOL Thank You So much! I'd buy you a coffee (or beer) if I could!
I think there is an issue with Onedrive...because all the files that are already in the cloud have the thumbnail visible.. the ones that show "error status" don't show the thumbnail.
Howdy. I downloaded Media Preview and installed it. Then I ran it and it fixed missing thumbnails in all drives and folders. Opening any folder I observe icons being replaced by thumbnails. It takes a little time on first opening the folder but after being populated the thumbnails show fast at next opening. Media Preview is easy to run. Just checkbox the file formats wanted to be restored and click apply. And Voila'. Regards.
Will this also fix a missing hard drive? Have a system where C drive is no longer displayed in Windows. Drive shows up in Disk Management and can be access via CMD Prompt. But it never is displayed in Windows File Explorer.
I have this problem but only with .ts files. Those are video files transferred from a Google Pixel phone. It's driving me up the wall and I would never recommend getting a Google phone for this and other reasons. .mp4 from my Galaxy still displays fine but .ts files just give the generic VLC logo. I've tried everything but can't seem to fix it.
I have tried absolutely everything under the sun and nothing has brought my video thumbnails back. Picture thumbnails are fine. I have an up to date windows 11 laptop which is fine. I wish I had properly tried to fix this when I first noticed almost a year ago. I have installed lots of programs since then so if it's related to a program I installed then it's going to take an awful long time uninstalling everything in the hope it'll fix it. 😞
Nothing I have tried so far has worked. Including rebuilding the indexing system. For me, the thumbnails start loading, with the green progress bar moving, then they suddenly stop loading and the green bar freezes. If I refresh the folder, all of the thumbnail icons are white. I really don't want to reformat my drive, maybe I will try running malware bytes in safe mode.
Really good video Brian as it is long been a problem with my machines changing from thumbnails to icons after an update or just by chance so thanks so much for this fix(s)👍 Ok mate I have run all but the command prompt section with taskkill and I have a lot of thumbnails along the top of the picture collection and also a load of icons below that I have to click on to see the screenshot or picture that is stored there any ideas? Its ok mate my machine was not syncing apparently so have fixed that😀
Requested video, so hope this helps, let me know in comments of any videos you want to see.
Thank you very much.
But, we need folder icon to show full thumbnail in stead of half.
How do I get Windows Security back?
I uninstalled IE from Win 10 and now half of my desktop icons are just blank white paper icons. I have cleared thumbnail cache via disc cleanup and via cmd prompt. I have also tried advanced system settings/performance-check/uncheck thumbnails instead of icons, to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Love your videos!
Hi, thanks for the video. What helped me was removing the file from one drive.
Can you help me? I went though all these steps and i get this error message when i click to open a picture . . . what is wrong? it says " caller specified wait timed out before the operation completed because a host termination is queued" ????? i don's know what this means . . i hope you can help!!! Holy crap thanks a lot man! God bless u!

Thank you! Worked perfectly
I clicked on the windows button, typed folder options, then clicked view menu, then unchecked "always show icons, never thumbnails," and all images in my file were magically restored! Many thanks our friends at Britec for their help, and brilliant windows 11 technical expertise!

Folder options worked for me, I set showing always only icons myself some time ago and forgot where was that setting :) Thank you for helpful video.

nothing worked for me, been scanning the comments and all over the web :( cant seem to fix it, its really breaking my work flow productivity
same here did you found a solution?
Me either, this just started to happen to me on Tuesday, no issues on my laptops though, I'm a DJ and it's so important to be able to see the cover art when searching for mp3s
search on delete TypedPaths in regedit
Thanks so much, unchecking "Always show icons, never thumbnails" fixed the issue for me.
And, yet again, you fixed my problem. Thank you!
First part deleting the thumbnails via clean up worked for me! Thank you for the help!
Second fix in the Disk Cleanup section fixed it for me, thanks a lot man, after (begrudgingly) switching to Win11 it was a massive pain in the arse to find any of my stuff and no other fix I tried had worked, even the CMD stuff, turns out to have been a simple checkbox, no clue why that was on by default, no clue who would prefer all the files to be completely impossible to be differentiated
Appreciate it man
Thanks a million from a brand-new subscriber. The checking for windows updates and disc cleanup solved the problem instantly.
