This is a pretty recent video about this topic so this comment is kinda like a tip. If this video doesn't work for someone or only partly worked: the problem might be with your onedrive trying to sync with your computer files (especially if you don't have enough space to upload all files to onedrive either). I had this problem with my completely new laptop and when I moved the exact same image folders to my external hard drive, all problems stopped and my image previews showed without any problems. That's when I noticed I only had this problem with folders that were linked to onedrive.
I simply fixed this by uninstalling onedrive completely since I only use google drive anyways and hated seeing constant "you dont have enough space on your onedrive!!" pop ups, but you could try just unsynching onedrive with some folders if you don't want to be this radical lol.

That worked me too, thanks. Problem is I always had enough space free on the OneDrive. My problem started after I took my laptop to be scanned by experts because I thought I might have picked up a bad virus. They told told me I had removed it myself but the software they used changed a few little annoying things. I'm going to re install OneDrive and hopefully the problem doesn't start again.

is the fact that I use DR folder/ File marker the reason that I do enable to show thumbnails but it either will not or changes back on its own . None of these worked, but thanks for trying. I've also noticed that my thumbnails sometimes disappear when Windows has an update waiting to be installed. They return once updated and restarted. No idea why they've all disappeared now, though.

None of these tips worked for me either. My files were in DropBox and I thought to transfer them to OneDrive. So, when moving the files, thumbnail appeared. And when I moved the file back, it remained. For me the problem seems to be somehow related to coud services... Dunno, but his is how I got it working. : )

Thanks, I wish I found you an hour ago. What was happening was my Thumbnails were not being removed when I did disk cleanup. Only a few of them were removed each time I ran disk cleanup. I had to run disk cleanup several time to remove all the thumbnails and then my jpegs displayed...........thanks a bunck.

I have a different problem. My thumbnails are showing fine, but when I copy my files and paste them to my backup external hard drive, the copies of these folders no longer have the thumb nails. They still have their thumb nails on the original files on the first hard drive, but the backup copies do not have them on the external hard drive. It seems like copying them over does not copy the thumb nails. Any advice? As I don't want to re-apply the thumb nails all over again, there's a lot of them...

What did fix it: Go to the folder with missing thumbnails, in the top-right search box type "*.jpg", wait for all thumbnails to refresh, clear search box

i dont know if i can fix this but all my .rif files have the icon as corel painter essentials 7. I had tried opening one of my drawings into corel painter but i had accidentally chosen to always open .rif files in corel painter and now all of the art thumbnails are just the corel painter icon. I do not know how to fix it because i have tried to undo the always open in corel painter, but that hasn't worked because it still opens in it.
