yes and no. my opinion is that you need to fully understand the culture because its different than the west. Some aspects are the same. Thai women generally don't like Thai men because they play around a lot. Ok so logically that means that Thai women are responding to Thai men who play around or it wouldn't happen. More than half of all people here are women and half of those are under 27. Thai culture is conservative (except for bar girls and massage girls). Also Buddhist. Lots of single mothers. People live closer to the edge of poverty here. Its a complex mix. Also, lots of farang are lying their asses off and they use the girls here and hurt them. It's not always the girls who screw things up. And then there is often a language barrier. The people will say they understand and they don't. They don't want to be seen as stupid. Who does? Food is huge here, meals are important and markets are super social. The middle class is where most of the stable people are in Thailand. They have decent jobs and went to university. Also age is a factor. Do girls in their 20s really know how to maintain a good relationship? Most are busy taking selfie's with beauty apps and posting them. Looking for that perfect picture. And with more dating app use the idea is always floating: someone better is just around the corner. My advice is come here and blend in to the fabric. Don't go to farang hangouts or stay with westerners. Go deep and you will meet many wonderful people and their families. Learn some Thai language, even a little. From real connection will come real honest relationships. Family is everything in Thai culture. They will usually be fiercely loyal even when the family is wrong.

We had a saying in Dubai, for girls dating Arabs…MMD’s we called them. My Mohammed is different… They used to meet the girls in nightclubs. Happy to see them in short skirts and low cut tops.. To the 26 year old in Chiang Mai; I'm torn between advising you to run for the hills and proceeding with caution. If you were my son, I would have advised you to never have got caught up with a Thai girl in the first place. However, it sounds like she's not Isaan, which brings the danger level down (but please discreetly check on the ethnicity of her mother; if she's Isaan then run). She also doesn't have a kid, which brings the danger level down even futher. Her paying for some dates is a good sign (yes, it can also be a warning sign but in this case I'll give her the benefit of the doubt). Given the age and life-stage you're both at, and the fact you seem to have a genuine interest in Thailand, I'd say proceed with caution, but keep it light and whatever you do, DO NOT MOVE IN TOGETHER. Also, you have to start mentally preparing yourself for the eventuation that she puts the hard word on you for money. If that happens, you need to be able to look her square in the eye and without hesitation say 'No', regardless of whatever the sob-story is, even if it's real. If you don't think you'll be able to do that, get out now. Also, the bottom line is that this relationship probably won't last too long; not unless you are prepared (and can afford) to become financially responsible for her and her family (which sounds like you're not). For a well educated women from a good background it's in millions. Farang who hand out with prostitutes usually don't come across such women. Nor they come across Thai men able to pay that.

Hello Dan: The Philippines is not much different. It is amazing how exploited these bar girls are and they do not even realize it. Exploited by their families too. My suggestion to any guy moving to Thailand is to bring a woman with you from your home country. Thanks for all the great stories.
Because the women from your home country are so much more desirable than Asian women (he said sarcastically). After my divorce after 32 years of marriage I tried dating in America for a couple of years. Of the 20-25 women I dated, I found none of the caucasian & Asian women compelling enough to date long-term. It's nearly impossible to even get a kiss from these women even after paying for several dates. There is a reason why these women only want to live alone.
Wrong. I've been in the Philippines 2.5 months, I've been with 9 women romantically and not a single one has asked me for a peso. From destitute living in a village to businesswomen.
