    Regarding the foot pedal, most industrial sewing machine pedals have an adjustment for the L-shaped bar at the back that the motor pushrod attaches to. You can loosen a set of screws and shift it left or right to line it up with the motor. If the pedal is already in a convenient place there's no need to move it now, but if you find it's too far to one side or the other and want to move it, you can do so.

    Great video. I have worked in many different factories and manufacturers and used many different types of machines like this over the last 35 years.This would be prolly my choice if I need to buy one for use at home, especially if you are making bags or working with leather, which I have done. Since i retired I have been doing more sewing for masks and quilts and have been researching threads and needles for the different types needed for different applications. I suggest looking into different videos on that subject, your eyes will be opened. My last job we went with leather type needles for use on vinyl sign materials. The thread types will vary for different materials and it will take some getting used to.dont be afraid of trying something out. We never had the belt cover installed on our machines either, always interfered in the use of the machine. As an industrial sewist, we were never allowed to touch or adjust our machines, only mechanics were allowed to do that. But I did learn how to clean, oil , and adjust tensions and to Change needles. Best thing to do is place a matt under the machine, it will leak or drip oil a bit, so you might want to protect your carpet underneath. Also we cleaned and oiled every week, so when you lean your machine back you to see underneath, place some paper towels in the drip pan.makes it much easier to catch and wipe up oil. So glad you got such a beautiful machine, you will be very happy. If there is anything I can help with, just send me a message

      When purchasing this machine I did start looking into threads and needles a little more. I had no idea there were so many different options. I did get a larger needle size for this machine and I am trying bonded polyester and bonded nylon thread first. I usually only use cotton thread when quilting and I did read that wouldn't work well at all in my new machine.
      Thank you so much for the tip about the oil under the machine! I didn't even think about that! I will need to get something to keep there!
      I feel better that you all never had the belt covered either!

      Hi Ruth, did you work with cowhides ever? I've got to buy a machine for our experienced machinist who has used singer needle foot for 2 decades, I'm torn between this or 1541. The only reason this is more interesting is he can put inner linings into garments and also still make some leather garments(lamb nappa/horsehide) .

    • @ruthm4749
      @ruthm4749 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nauxsi . This machine would be a great choice for use in making leather goods. The two part walking foot has great control, just make sure you do your research into needles and thread types you prefer to use. We used polyester thread and leather needles for use on our vinyl signs. We did use cowhide when making leather covered office chairs back in 1986, my favorite machine was the doubleneedle topstitching for the outside of the seat cushions.

    • @nauxsi
      @nauxsi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ruthm4749 Interesting. Leathers I get today are not suede thin, but have gotten thinner from stuff I was using in 90s. Cowhide is probably thickest I use at 1.2mm. We use leather needles 130/21 or 120/19. Got a few lu-563 and when they pack up wil upgrade to these newer quieter models. Probably a 1541 or equivalent. In meantime it's getting something in between that can finish the garment off. Will definitely try this model in the shop.

    I just picked up this Gc0303D model sewing machine and these are the accessories that are available for it and the machine is as he say a copy of the juki 1181, so I was watching your video and see you wanted a plate with guidelines and this is available for mine and just may work for yours. This is the link that shows whats available. th-cam.com/video/p7Thu5R2VPY/w-d-xo.html
    I'm just getting started with this machine and was curious what size needles and thread you are using, I'm gonna be sewing leather from about 2 layers of 2-3oz up to 2 layers of 7-8oz and I don't have a clue as to what thread and needles I will need to accomplish these projects.

    I have that machine. You're missing a part--the 'spool pin' that goes on top of the machine. It has two holes, you thread the machine through those FIRST before the pretensioner. I also recommend buying self-adhesive led strip lights to put in the 'hoop' of the machine. You'll be able to plug the light into the motor, and not have the gooseneck lamp always in the way.

    Hello, Perhaps can you help me, I want to buy a industrial sewing machine but I am quite confused about what machine is better for me. I am between Juki DU1181N walking foot and Juki DDL 8700 H. I am looking a sewing machine can work with thinner fabric and thicker fabric. I hope you can help me. Thanks

      The DU1181N does not work well with thin fabrics at all. I am unsure about the DDL8700. Sewing gold has a lot of comparison videos on their TH-cam channel. You could check there. I found it very helpful.

      For mine I jammed it up. I cleared the jam and restarted it but it still wouldn’t run. I hand cranked to show the jam was cleared and it worked after that.

    Just bought this machine today so the tips on assembly are very helpful, thanks! I will of course be looking at every assembly video I can (already started doing that) since this will be my first operational industrial machine. I have several vintage industrial Singers and a Pfaff but they are not set up for use. Found myself in the same boat as you- I adore my Bernina (and also as a collector I have way, way too many vintage machines which are dear to my heart), but I don't want to destroy them. I am retired now and interested in learning to do upholstery and other work that requires heavier textiles. So my domestic machines still have to be there for quilts and apparel and other lighter weight projects. Really looking forward to exploring what a dedicated walking foot machine can do.

    Hello, I am a intermediate sewer that mostly sew cosplay /costume projects. These are usually made with heavy weight fabrics such as cotton/duck canvas, heavy weight bull denim and would like to sew leather eventually. Currently I am using a Janome HD-3000 sewing machine. I will say that I have put this machine through the ringer because attempting to sew thick projects, I either break a needle or throw off my timing. I have done both quit a bit lately. In addition, I end up getting really frustrated and curse allot during my sewing periods. I am a US Army Combat Veteran, and I sew to keep me grounded. I would like to get your feedback as a owner of this machine to see if you think this would suit my sewing needs. May I ask where you purchased your thread from? Thank you to you and your Husband for a great video and help. Daren

      @sewbeitquilts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you for your service as well!
      This machine sews like a dream through leather and I haven’t broken a needle yet which I almost always did on my other machine sewing through heavy material.
      If you also plan to still sew with lighter material I would recommend either keeping your current machine for that or reaching out the the people at sewing gold for a sewing machine recommendation. I know they reviewed a machine on their channel that sews both light and heavier material pretty well.

    • @carolynblakeney966

      That's more of the reason for using a belt guard- keeping hair out rather than fingers. But you need to keep that in mind if you operate a manual (i.e., non-electric) treadle too!

    Good video. I love all the new names of the parts that your husband gave. Very amusing. I too had to adjust my table to a lower height when I purchased my machine (DU 1181 N). I did it after it was put together. Wasn't informed from the videos that it could be done beforehand. And I also adjusted my foot pedal to the left, again after the fact, by raising the table off the floor and removing the screws and shifting to the left. I am 5'2" and therefore my table needed some tweaking. Since this was made in Feb 21, Steve hadn't as of yet made needle plates for the 1181. I was able to get one and love having all the measurements. Now my machine is great .I also had a good experience with Steve. He helped me a lot choosing the best machine for my needs. Enjoy sewing.
