- Walton Goggins, Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten and the 'Fallout' showrunners break down the unforgettable season one finale. They describe shooting the big "whopper" revelations for all of the major characters as they coalesce at the Griffith Observatory. They also tease details for season two which finds many characters headed to the fan-favorite location of New Vegas.
Variety Making a Scene Presented by HBO - บันเทิง
Great episode with some powerful acting by Ella Purnell, whose revelation about Lucy's father was just heartbreaking and great acting by Walton Goggins, who gives the quintessential "Fallout" line of all.
This is the episode that Amazon should give as "For your consideration" Come award time, especially for Purnell and Goggins, whose performances make this series as great as it is.
Unfortunately, a lot of the gravitas is only there because of the previous developments. I think it won't hit quite as hard for someone that doesn't know the mythology.
@@Alacritous You don't need to know the mythology to understand the developments of episode 8. You just have to had seen the previous 7 episodes. The great acting, especially by Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins plus the storytelling brings the gravitas.
@@freddyfeliciano4468 sure thing, Sparky.
@@Alacritous Whatever......
I read before that they used The Good, The Bad and the Ugly as inspiration but I didn't realize it also influenced their camera angles for the final episode. That was a nice touch.
walton has been killing it for years but i'm so glad ella is getting her flowers for her acting!!
This is one of those rare adaptations that they hit out of the park.
"Where is my fucking family" I know i'm biased but this delivery is one of the best ever. Serious goosebumps.
"i waited 200 years to ask someone this question... why are there no dogs in the vaults? ):
Walton Goggins is the most underrated TV actor of all time
Dude absolutely kills it in every role
Most underrated metrosexual ever
Aaron Moten is a new face to me, i find his way of speaking and his mannerisms, both as himself and as an actor, really engaging. Just extremely expressive and unique without being as sort of energetic or hyperbolic as that might sound. A very steady, smooth delivery that just holds you for some reason, even in scenes where hes under duress he seems to have both more calm and more going on in his mind.
And he looks like a young Morgan Freeman! :P
Ron Perlman said the "War never changes" line in the games. It'd be cool to see him in the show at some point.
That would be great. I wouldn't mind them getting Liam Neeson as well just because he'll always be my Fallout 3 dad.
Throughout the show I was wondering if/when Ron Perlman would show up with that notorious phrase. It's my biggest complaint, but it's such a good show that it doesn't really bug me.
Let's hope the showrunners read the numerous inquiries about Ron Perlman and our desire to have him be a part of the show. I'm sure they could find something in New Vegas.
It would also be super cool to have a side character cameo of Tim Cain! I think he’d definitely be down to be apart of it as well and it would be a beautiful homage to the original creators of the series
Walton Goggins was absolutely amazing in this show. So was Ella. Aaron was good as well. Such a perfectly cast show. I also love how positively Walton talks about the line "War. War never changes...". He's not a gamer, but he has that respect for the original material.
I love how he talked about how he didn't know it's history, and still thought it was one of the best little lines he'd ever read. He mistakenly thought it was the original writers and is now wasn't afraid to immediately joke "turns out they get NO CREDIT for that" 😂
“Fuck it, it’s whopper city” I felt that
Double double super Whopper.
I'm obsessed! Fallout is incredible, the universe is so rich
Huge fan of Aaron’s portrayal of Maximus. The way he talks about his character, his cast mates, the production. You can tell he loves this. Can’t wait for season 2!❤
I remember finding out that a Fallout TV show was actually going to happen and being happy and nervous. I am very heavily invested in The Fallout universe. I have so much Fallout merchandise on bookshelves and walls. I have all the video games, most of the collectors editions, cards, posters, funko pop figures, I have 5 pipboys, I have watched hours and hours of lore videos on youtube. This is my favorite gaming universe hands down. I love it. So many people were talking shit before it even came out. Saying it was going to be this and that and a bunch of other nonsense. They fucking killed it. There were a couple parts i thought could have been done differently, but over all they nailed it. They nailed the vibe of Fallout perfectly. The sense of humor and the bleakness of it all. It was so good. I cant wait for season 2. I want them to take their time and get it right, but im here for it. We need a spin off that goes over the supernatural aspect of Fallout. That would be sick. There are so many stories to tell.
This show was so fantastic, one of my favourites already. So cool to hear more behind the scenes aspects and I can't wait to watch season 2!!!
This is an absolute masterclass in making a scene (actually, the whole show). There are so, so many actors, directors and screenwriters that need to dissect this scene and show. Then, maybe, we as the audience will get the sort of entertainment we are dying for.
Such a great team working on this. Awards all round ❤
Best cast chemistry ever, love all three.
i love these interviews, i hope we continue to get more!
could watch hours of behind the scenes stuff, it's what I miss about Physical Media {DVD/BluRay} and all the special features we'd get
One of the best working actors today. You’re killing it Walton
Mr House is my absolute favorite character in ALL of fallout. Someone who has plans running in the century possibly even millennium tally
The season finale did a good job of dialing down the campiness. I know Bethesda pitches Fallout as "the funnest and goofiest Post-apocalypse in the Post-Apocalyptic genre", but the original Fallout WAS very dark and serious, and the finale did a good job of bringing the TRUE Fallout vibe to the screen.
I'm happy they found a nice balance between the fun, ludicrous, and campy elements from more recent games, while also gobsmacking the audience with some grimdark sci-fi/apocalypse and horror elements inherent in the early games. But I will also say, the sort of campy, pulpy, Soylent Green/1950s b-movie horror/scifi aspects of Fallout as an IP is what makes it my favorite, fictional post-apocalyptic world. Take away the dry, dark humor, bizarre scifi undertones, and camp, and you're left with just another dark, dreary post-apocalyptic entry from Hollywood.
That's what makes Fallout an outstanding piece of the post-apocalyptic fiction puzzle - it can do both.
Michael Dorn may be getting up there in years, but it would be fantastic to see him as the super mutant Marcus in S2, even if it was just a cameo.
im so excited for season 2
season 1 really allowed me to reconnect with my dad, all the 50s music and all that, with him being an old man, brought back a lot of memories he had that he never told me until we watched the show
its a great show
So Robert House is not dead 15 years after the events of New Vegas. That’s awesome
Well, one of the four possible endings to New Vegas was helping House take over the Mojave. House is such an interesting character, that I'm not surprised the writers of the show would want to make the House ending canon.
Not necessarily. I'm still hoping for a yes Man ending lol maybe copium
I think there are ways the showrunners could go about it having him dead, alive, or keeping it vague
timestamp?
@@Intr0vertical considering how shitty NV looked like, and the fact that without NCR, house plans to create a new nation and begin space exploration are equally fck, a yes man ending seems more "fitting"
Kudos to the cast for all of them knocking it out of the park but gotta give credit to the showrunners for doing a video game adaptation right. I don't know if they are fans of the games or listened to fans but they definitely did the games justice with the show.
There's an interview where they were asked this question, Graham played the originals back in the 90s and Geneva played Bethesda Fallouts when she learned they are going to make this show.
Anybody who has actually played the game knows that Maximus is maxed out on the "Idiot Savant" Perk.
For me the best acted line in the episode was that last, really tired, stripped of any enthusiasm or loss of warmth delivery of " okie dokie "
It was really cool to hear how these guys made the last episode of the Fallout series. I really enjoyed the show up to this point, and I'm looking forward to what they do in the next season!
I absolutely adore Ella!
I wish there were like 6 seasons to binge watch right now!
I played Fallout 2 for the first time in 1998, I was twelve. Stayed up until 6am the first night. By far my personal favourite video game franchise of all time. I had extremely high expectations of this show, thankfully the team absolutely nailed it. So much great world building, so much potential for Fallout in the future. Great work by them all
Love learning that Walton Goggins loves side quests
Thou shall be sidetracked by bs every gd time!
I still thinks its insane ron pearlman isnt in this as a BOS elder
There is always season 2 and the Mojave chapter of the Brotherhood.
Hopefully the show runners realize and bring him in season 2!!’
Nah hes deffo voicing goris from fallout 2.
You know where i expect him to cameo? When and if we get more flashbacks or background about the guy sitting in the shadows above the council that Coup's wife looks up to. The strings puller the guy behind the wheel Coup mentions in the end. Can you imagine him shown talking to someone and saying the "War never changes" line?
brilliant writing
peak television so good!
"you got a hotrod, you gotta do some donuts", hell yeah! lol
23:06 saving this for later
Lol, he definitely meant "Side Quests."
I love it
Love these types of videos, BTS stuff is cool but with actors and show runners is even better
I like the burger analogy
I like burger
Mr House confirmed alive basically
The house always wins
THE HOUSE ALWAYS WINS.
Hell of a show.
The good thing about stacking is that everyone is at least potentially unreliable as narrators. There's some stuff we've been told that characters believe but that I'm pretty sure isn't true. But we the audience get multiple lines of evidence leading to the same conclusion here so these events don't need to be things we're questioning. We can be confident of this.
so glad the show turned out great. Can't wait for season 2 and the next game, likely in 10 years!
Rewatching the series, certain scenes hit different. Like when Lucy says she could never look her father in the eye if she doomed an entire community just to help herself. Or the Vault-Tec ad shoot where Cooper asks if the suits really block radiation.
the only thing that could have made this better would be having Kyle Maclachlan present, but regardless, fantastic insight in this video!
24:26 Walton, *you* and the rest of the production made Cooper Howard and The Ghoul the coolest, baddest cats anyone's seen on TV these past few decades.
Not just years. *_Decades._*
I’ve loved Walton Goggins for years! It’s so cool to see him finding his groove and getting the recognition he deserves!
I hope fallout gets a award for how great the show is. But I think Mister Walton Goggins should get a award too. I love how he starts as this very kind and respectful character Cooper Howard and really feel so bad for him what happens. I think Mister Walton Goggins his acting is top notch and a lot of respect what he endured during playing the ghoul in the heat and still delivering such a brilliant character. He is so humble about it and that is so amazing to.
I don't know if Walton is the most deep and thoughtful man ever, or he's just acting like it, either way, what a legend.
Season 2?
okey doke.
Honestly the first season was so goated!!! Can’t wait for next season!!!
They really nailed it with putting all the whoppers together. Fallout is such an everything burger of a setting - it can feel thin when there's so much dark humor and just plain ridiculousness, but it's underscored in every iteration by some absolute gut-punch dramatic plot twists that make the world feel real when they hit and feel exactly like The Ghoul, Lucy, and Maximus in this scene. Like the world, in its absurdity, brutality, and ridiculousness, wakes you up to its reality of being this absolutely tragic story of humanity. That's what they captured by having all the whoppers in one scene, it's the fundamental message of Fallout. Spread those moments out and they start to lose meaning. What a brilliant alchemy they discovered for this show - the writers, producers, directors, setting, actors, costume designers, VFX, the AR wall - just everything and everyone came together to create a masterpiece of a show and goddamn I can't wait to see what they come up with next
I love this guy so much that I needed to make a song about him! My man!
ROBERT FUCKING HOUSE BABY!
Disney, these are the kind of show runners you hire to create inspired media of a beloved franchise.
so glad to see Walton Goggins is so into this series, he was amazing in the first season
"War. War never Changes."
Walton Goggins: Wow, that's a great line
Ron Perlman: I know, right
As if I didn't love Walton enough he absolutely nails the role, chews up every scene he's in. I would love for him to get acting nominations but for a show like this who knows. He deserves all the accolades.
Good god, Walton's dripping sooo much charisma
It's funny because I think Tim Cain came up with war. Never changes but Tim Cain is not a good dialogue writer so it was one of those accidentally good moments
23:05 Confirmed. Walton Goggins love side missions more than the main.
Walton Goggins has made this show an Instant Classic!!!! Cooper Howard (The OG Ghoul) created so much depth in the show. Ella Purnell's character was so fun, and wasn't so much "Girl Boss", like in most shows, nowadays, seeking the Woke standard. She was just a woman on such a tough journey, and Coop was so vital in her race to find her father! Their journeys merged into an epic Quest!
Absolutely Amazing!!!
Bravo!!!
❤🎉💋🤯🙌🏻🌟✨
It's like a challenge finding a TH-cam comment that doesn't arbitrarily complain about woke
Mr. House is alive - the first spoiler already!

Walton Goggins is a national treasure Nic Cage must protect him
so House ending is canon?
Im fan of Walton goggins....
“War never changes”
Very interesting.
In all the time since I watch the finale, this is the first time I've wondered what Lucy and the Ghoul are going to talk about.
And then it hits me that maybe they won't say much of anything for the first episode of Season 2, and that might suit them both very well. The Ghoul is used to silence and maybe isn't going to want to go into more detail right off the bat. And Lucy is a Windows loading screen as the computer reboots.
They could probably go a very long way talking about very little outside of immediate issues. And I don't know what their conversation will be when they actually stop to say something to each other.
23:03
That's what Fallout is all about!
Man, have I missed Walton Goggins!
Personally think Microsoft should fire Todd Howard and hire these writers.
Walton Goggins is one of the best actors of our generation, and the fact that he loves Cooper as much as we all do makes me so happy!
Yeah Walton, we love side quests too
They could NOT have cast a better Lucy for the Fallout world. She's got the facial features you know is made from character edit mode.
Coop is the player that was presented with the main story and totally blew it off and got OP off of side quests untill he could solo the whole main quest all at once ( like with new Vegas how you can complete the main quest with a speech check )
Lucy is the player that got the main quest line and was so focused on getting it done before side quests but ultimately got on to a compelling side quest to side track her.
Max is the player that just be specing into combat and having fun using the cool game mechanics ( fallout 4 players)
Shout out the WRITERS. I have my problems with the show but they did a great job. Final episode is the best imo.
Walton Gogins is my favorite actor his role in hateful eight 🤣
Yeah, he's one of Tarantino's go-to-guys. And you can't convince me Tarantino wasn't an influence on the battle scenes (along with spaghetti-western GOD Sergio Leone).
Hey Marvel, get Aaron to replace Jonathan Majors. You're welcome.
Man someone get Walton a stronger chair. He looked one flex away from busting it.
When you're an actor as good as WG, even your chair gets upstaging levels of quality character! Those chair sounds would make a foley artist jealous.
The reason why this series is beloved is because the respect shown to the lore, characters and the audience. It was clearly made with love instead of all the other ideology based garbage made out of spite.
i need him so bad. literally he’s so charming and sweet and funny and and and!!!
Bros handsome
They heard Kendrick’s song and went “wop wop wop” at the end of the series lol 😂
The show definitely nailed the 'pyrrhic victory' theme in the end.
Season 2: Gotta follow the golden rule of the wasteland "Thou shalt get sidetracked by bullshit every goddamn time"
Wouldn't call getting sidetracked a golden rule, more like a Murphy's law
@@galadballcrusher8182 It's a line the Ghoul uses after his encounter with the Gulper and all his viles get broken
You're making a difference!
👍
Don’t fuck up season two we need a Courier 6 cameo to establish the story and a cannon ending
Walton appreciates the side quests, confirmed!
I always found him creepy looking.
First
Twentieth!
Whoever her ex boyfriend is, I’d be sending her flowers rn if I was him
Bout 8 minutes in. Gotta call it a wrap. Nobody is here to listen to the show runners. Theyre here for the big 3. Obvi.
Actually I kinda want to listen to them.
@@zhulikkulik You ever hear the phrase "There's always an exception to the rule?"
Yeah. There ya go. That's my whole point lol
just skip through the show runners parts then
@@graceseveri4917 I did. Lol skipped the whole damn video 😂
I like that we get to hear what they had to say about it... Because they know the most about what's going on in the world.
It's like listening to devs talk about their game. I don't think I'd go to the voice actors for the same information the devs can give me and the same applies here.
Grahm's a writer??? he sold me a few suitcases a few days ago, he's overpriced though, don't recommend.
it was a great finale, sadly, they had to sacrifice the entire lore of FO:NV and the portrays of howard house and frederick sinclair for some reason, like if no one care to bother to actually look for how sinclair look like or what were his motivations in the dead money DLC....
Aaron Moten performance was underwhelming. Should have picked a better actor for the role. Still though, reminds me alot of Denzel... but nowhere near his acting.
wow! they greenlit a season 2 for this insult to television? well i suppose velma got a season 2 as well so i guess ill bring some marshmellows for this dumpster fire.
Womp womp
She obviously started asking Jen about "Friends" as part of a lengthier interview (click above bottom title, I think), & Jen started thinking of the late Matthew Perry. Cmon. How can ppl not realize that?
I'm in my 60s now. Friends just turned 30 yrs old. I remember the 1st episode. Was a single parent, & that show got me thru so much hardship w/its comedy. It's worth watching the full interview.🫠And of course the shows these two comedy greats are part of now.
