    Did quite a lot of research, cylinder deactivation doesn’t seem to be an issue. It rotates the cylinders it deactivates, so it not the same cylinders all the time. Upgraded the piston rings for oil consumption issue. Haven’t come across any of the issues people were complaining about oil consumption like in the’18-‘19. Sounds like a winner if you don’t want an eco boost. I’d recommend 3:73 gears if you can find one.

      they both tow differently. 3.5 deliveries power at lower rpms but the 5.0 coyote motor is a high reving engine. It needs to live in the high rpms to get its max power. A reason why coyote is such a bad ass motor in the mustang. The high rpms + exhaust is soo fun

    Since Ford has put in that (stupid) cylinder deactivation for this year, is it active in only the Eco mode, or does it kick on in the Normal mode as well?

    • @thomascoleman3169
      @thomascoleman3169 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Big question is can you deactivate that system or do you have to go through the whole scenario taking the top of the motor off like they did with the police Caprices with the ls Motors with the cylinder deactivation system..... If I'm gonna to be spending all that money I want that 5.0 to be banging on all cylinders all the time....., that is granted gas prices go down...

    XL STX front looks better than most other higher trims. Standard halogens are dim by todays standards. The side mirrors vertically seem a bit undersized to me. Truck rides and drives well(3.5L driven), and is very quiet. The 10spd still shifts funny at low speeds/gears sometimes and abruptly under slight load at higher speeds/gears. Have driven 3 Fords with the 10spd in last year or so, all three with same odd shifts. Curious if GMs version of transmission shifts the same. The 3.5L XLT 4x4 version I had for the week topped out at 22mpg interstate driving. Curious what V8 gets. Also had an issue one time out of eight where the truck wouldn’t disengage from 4H back to 2H for awhile. Would still prefer a manual floor shift lever for 4wd any day over a an electronic rotary knob, on any vehicle. Nice truck overall.

    I was at the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo in Rapid City South Dakota last week. They had a F450 STX for $63,000. They had a F150 Lariat for $67,000. The F450 was a dually 6.7 diesel. 63K is a good price for how much truck you get in a F450.

    What is this crazy trend of putting large wheels on trucks? Trucks are meant to have fat high profile tires for driving over terrain. Who buys a truck and drives it like a low rider down main street? BTW that 5.0 is the best sounding motor of all the trucks with the Nissan Titan coming in second.

      I am willing to bet is has something to do with speed. If youblook at how fast people drive nowadays youll want a thinner sidewall tire for handling purposes. If you have a thicker sidewall tire it decreases your handling capabilities and more likely to roll. Im completely guessing on this part of it lol

    I like the new 2021 F150. I wish Ford would add the Auto 4 wheel option on their mid Trims like the XLT and this. Ford only gives you 2H, 4H and 4L. You need to bump up to a Lariat or higher to get the 4A....
    Both RAM and GM’s give a 4 Auto option on all the low/mid levels trims like Bighorn or the LT and RST trucks. With Ford, unless you dish out $ and upgrade for 10k for the Lariat or higher., no 4 Auto . Living in Minnysnowta, 4 Auto is a must for me anyway.

    If money wasn't a factor I'd love a King Ranch. Lariat is awesome but again over 60k is just too much for me. I ordered an XLT 302A waiting to hear the build date. I currently have a 2016 XLT 302A with 3.5 Ecoboost. It's a good strong motor! My dad has a 2016 Lariat with 5.0. The 3.5 feels stronger and definitely accelerates faster. That being said, I went with the 5.0 because I miss the V8 rumble. Can't wait till the exhaust companies start making systems for the 21s. It's a little cheaper by $600 and it has more than enough power for what I honestly will do. The 2.7 is probably enough but I'm thinking resale value the 5.0 and 3.5 will obviously bring more $.

      @@justinkepple8940 Yes , you’re right ! I saw that after I posted this . It’s a shame that Ford doesn’t offer the option to get 3.55 gears with the V-8 ( you used to be able to order whatever gear you wanted )
      I had a 2005 F-150 XLT with the 5.4L Triton that came standard with the 3.55 rear axle… it seems to be a perfect balance of towing capacity without sacrificing fuel economy so much , now they only offer the 3.31 or you have to step up to the Max Trailer Tow package and a 3.73 gear with the V-8 . I had a 1998 Dodge Ram with the 5.9L V-8 and a 3.55 rear axle, and it just seems to work well for what I do . They act like it’s some kind of forbidden voodoo to have a V-8 with a 3.55 gear or something, I don’t know 🤷‍♂️ I don’t get it either. Oh well , I better get one with a V-8 while I still can because those are all going away soon too !

      @@NorthwoodsNomad yes I recently traded in my 18 2.7 for a 19 5.0. Needless to say it’s much more fun to drive. And it’s got the 157” wheelbase. But also has the 3.55. Only had it for 2k miles so I’m not sure about oil consumption yet. However going to go get it appraised and perhaps go for a 2022 custom order. I’ve read a lot about 3.73 vs 3.31 and nearly everybody says go 3.73 and you won’t regret it. Negligible .5 - 1.0 mpg on the highway. I just think the new gen is not as good looking as the previous gen

    • @NorthwoodsNomad
      @NorthwoodsNomad 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@justinkepple8940 Yeah , I know , I’ve owned so many pick up trucks throughout the years , I can’t keep track of them all . And I’ve never had anything less than a 3.55 rear differential , it just does most things rather well , a really nice balance of tow capacity and decent highway mileage, all around utility for a truck. It goes well with V-8’s . These manufacturers are pressured into putting 3.31 and 3.15 differential gears into modern day trucks because they’re trying to meet certain requirements for fuel economy compliance ( bunch of bureaucratic BS involved but we won’t get into that lol 😂)
      Yep , I won’t buy anything less than a 3.55 gear , as you said the fuel mileage is a negligible trade off for the additional tow capacity and just outright robust integrity of the 3.73 differential over the 3.31 ( 9.75” rear end and that comes standard when you opt for the 3.73 differential , which includes the Max Trailer tow package and added leaf springs also inclusive of the heavy duty payload package and tow monitoring package… it all comes as a package bundled into one ). Of course, you pay extra for it , but we’ll worth the upgrade in my opinion.

    • @anthonywood4894
      @anthonywood4894 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is no need for 3.55 gears with the 10 speed transmission. If you pull every weekend or several times a month you would probably want to opt for the 3.73s or 4.10s. The 3.31s with the 10 speed pulls like 3.73s with a 6 speed tranny due to how the 10 speed transmission is geared. My 2022 STX 4x4 with 3.31s pulls significantly harder off the line than my 2007 F-150 with 3.55s.
