I enjoyed the heck outta this. I also would’ve stuck with stock wheels and maybe a bimodal exhaust instead. But the owner obviously likes it and that’s awesome.
Short exhaust is partly the reason for the loud level exhaust. Simply running that out behind the axle would drop that tone considerably. I know when i had the duals on my '81 C10 dumping in front of each rear wheel, i could drive through a multilevel parking structure, and set off car alarms simply by driving in 1st gear around 2200-2500 RPM. Yeah, we were all young & dumb at some point in our lives, lol!
Great review Rich, my 2020 crew cab coyote is packing a Gen5 whipple. The coyote loves boost. As far as the AC drain, FORD sells a rubber elbow that you put on the drain tab and it will shoot straight down. I was a die hard GM truck guy but after owning 3 aluminum F150’s there’s a reason it’s the best selling pickup here in the states. Love the channel, you’re the man!
My oldest boy had 2021 f150. It spent more time in the dealership for recall issues and the dashboard going dead.... traded it off for a '13 duramax. Issues resolved
I am 100% with you on that one. Wheels and exhaust must go. I just bought a new Silverado and opted for the single exhaust, the duel pipes sound nice but will drive me nuts on a long road.
My 2017 5.0 F150 has a steel oil pan with an angled drain plug. Sway bar isn't an issue. That plastic pan and quick release looks like something the accounting department engineered
I previous owned the 2018 f150 Lariat 5L coyote I put 200km on it before I traded it in for an F350 I will say this my f-150 always ran great but also sucked up 1.5liters of oil for every 5000km +/- I would buy another one for sure hopefully the latest gen don't burn oil like my 18 did Thanks for posting guys!
Good review. Tires, rims & exhaust are just owners choice, looks nice & sounds good but I agree that it does tend to make longer driving uncomfortable. Never a bad thing to do oil analysis regularly.
I own 2015 2.7 Ecoboost with 315000K. One turbo blow off valve replacement under warranty. Wiper transmission and alternator replaced after warranty. Only other maintenance has been oil changed brakes and tires. Mileage has been 11l/100km. I’d buy it again in a heartbeat. Aluminum body still looks great.
When you drain the oil, rotate the plug until it releases and then pull it back just far enough to get flow. You can set there and hold it for the entire time your draining it or I've seen guys cut a small piece of pvc pipe that fits over the drain plug just long enough to butt up against the trans cooler and hold the drain plug at the perfect position for a controllable drain. It is a little inconvenient but it beats splattering oil all over the trans cooler and the ground.
@@althomas6496 Good to know she married you for your 'pipes' :) Congrats on 52 years of marriage! These days 52months might seem like a long time for some.
I have a 2012 Lariat 4-door with the 5.0, it now has right at 50 thousand miles on it, and the only problem I've had was a fuel-pump fuse blowing at 30k miles or so, I just replaced it and never took it in to get checked, I've given you crap in the past, but I gotta say, your unbiased reviews have made me a believer, and a life-long viewer,😉👍, awesome video Rich, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the input and sticking around. Like I said before, my biggest beef was the 5.4 3V, 6.0 and 6.4 which was all we saw in the shop for almost a decade. The are pretty well gone now
I agree with a couple comments I have seen. At least for trucks, a mid range tow test. Also, love to see a comparison between the 5.0 and 3.5 Econoost. My buddy loves his but he’s already had to replace warped manifolds on a completely stock truck which are apparently a pretty common problems. Also had to have the valve body worked on in the 10 speed for flare shifting. It’s a daily driver, never been off road and only ever towed a 14 foot trailer with a UTV on it a few times.
This is a great way to test vehicles......keep it up. This should expose problems that trucks may have. Really like the idea of the oil analysis....thought you were going to have more trouble getting oil in the container (I'm getting old and have more trouble than that at the doctor's office - LOL!)
I’ve got the 2020 3.5 ecoboost 4x4. Bought brand new. I’ve got almost 43k miles on it. Zero issues so far. I’ve hauled big loads coast to coast. It’s been a great truck.
I just bought a used model it seems similar to yours (XLT, Supercab, 4X4, 3.5TT) with low miles...am loving it but wish I could squeak a couple more mpg's out of it...maybe I need to put it in eco...any tips?
Like the reviews because you know what your talking about and you tell it straight good or bad. I have a 2011 FX4 Ford screw with the 5.0L 6R80 4x4 3.73 ratio that I bought new. Now104 thousand miles 167371km and 11 years of Manitoba winters still no major issues. Wish you could see it. It is still like new because I am super fussy about maintenance and rust prevention. I am a retired diesel mechanic I tow a 5500 pound TT. This truck and my TT has been to Alaska, Yukon, California, South Texas numerous times from Winnipeg. I use factory filters and change all fluids early and use synthetic 5w20 in the engine. The engine uses no oil between oil changes (5000 KM interval) when not towing and about a half liter towing from Wpg to McAllen Texas when bucking strong head winds. I plan on keeping this truck for a vary long time. I think any vehicle can be made to last if you are willing to get filthy now and then like Rich.
I bought a 2019 5.0 new and had multiple problems with the trans shifting poorly and popping up codes and the auto start stop coming on mid drive and the idle would jump around 500 rpm very strange and too add it only had 25k miles on it and I started seeing problems at 15k miles .. I ended up trading it in on a tundra (2019) .. best decision I’ve ever made
I'm glad you didn't pass on bringing up those horrible rims and tires. You were still very Canadian about it, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but damn if anything stance on a fairly regular pickup is a hideous trend I can't wait for the death of.
Yeah It was like everything I dont care for in a wheel/tire combo mashed together. Super stretched rubberband tires on tacky rims with a mile of poke. To each his own I guess.
@@brianbrians3157 Oh man, that's neither rubberbands or a mile of poke. I used to be pretty into the lifted truck scene (until I sold mine for something newer and nicer), and knew a guy that had a set of 26X16 wheels with 2 inch spacers on a GMC 1500 Denali. Said 26s were also wrapped in 35 inch tires. I have seen guys running 33s on 26s, that's getting into rubber bands.
Every time I see a truck with those kinds of awful extra wide rims on them it looks to me like the truck was stepped on, and the bottom spread out. Looks terrible.
I had a 19 ram 1500 limited and never had a issue. Tires were measured at very close to new after 23k miles even. I have a trx now same thing. 11k mikes , march will be 2 years with it. Absolutely love that truck ! We have had ram 5500s since 11 with Cummins we trade em in every 5 years other then normal maintenance and tires never a issue and I currently on number 7 and 8 with them. The only trucks that ever given us issues is the Nissan NV25/3500 van and a 06 f550 we had back in the day with a 6.0. She had 3 different turbos during ownership.
They probably put the drain plug behind the sway bar on purpose to prevent quick change oil change guys from using tools on the plug and breaking the plastic pan
@@typrus6377 we aren't all retarded, I work at the best quick shop in town, shop isn't pretty, there are crackheads literally everywhere but we're always busy because we don't tell you a fluid should be blue when it's red, have open honest conversation with our customers and try not to make them spend money on things they don't need. Tire repairs make alot of money, plugs we usually just send people on their way for free and most will throw you a 20 for it anyway bead cleans valves and patches I usually ask for a 20 cash but if they don't have cash just tell em to think of us when they're due for the next oil change.
@@twigglykevin Bud, there are ALWAYS exceptions. But they call it Grease Flunky for a reason. The amount of fuck-ups out of those chain quick-lubes is insane. Does that mean everyone who works there is a bum? Hell no! But the majority are. Whether because they just don't give a damn, or are stupid, or are in too much of a hurry, it doesnt matter. Junk work is junk work. 1 or 2 good shops in a hundred isn't enough to change the general perception, but it usually is enough to keep the good ones crazy busy.
Had a New 2018 5.0 and the 10R80 trans was definitely a big gripe. Hesitant shifting, hard shifting, can’t tell you how many times I called the dealer to have them diag it. Flashed the tcu TWICE, and it would still go back. Loved it other than the trans.
I love the 10R80 in my 18 5L. Silky smooth, and responsive as a straight up mofo. Willing to downshift in ways I've not seen before in an auto tranny, but at the same time in a way that's less annoying when talking gear hunting than it is with most 6 speed auto vehicles. It's really quite impressive. I was looking at a L87/10L80 truck, but the transmission performance compared to 5L/10R80 killed it for me. Leave it GM to tune a truck with 10 gears, and not want to use them, but instead try, and force the engine to lug it's way up to speed. Crazy how different these two transmissions which are identical other than the tune and bell house pattern actually feel.
Only issue I've seen with these, the oil pan leaks, I think there may be a recall to get it fixed, and that might be the plastic oil pan Ecoboost, but in my experience all the plastic oil pans leak, from the 6.7's al the way down to the v6's. Watch out and be careful of that, also if you own one it's a good idea to get the plastic replacement drain plugs, that gasket and plastic always get weak.
Love my 5.0. 2015 Lariat, SuperCrew Cab (4 full door) FX4 and 6.5ft bed. Only issues I've had with it so far (102k miles, 7 yrs old) are diff pinion seal and transmission/tcase output seal which just started weeping recently, a wire in the heated/cooled seats module (easy fix just had to add another ground to it), and an alternator which seized up after sitting 2 weeks recently, but thats probably because my aftermarket bumper has a spot where the salt can hit the front of the engine which I need to fix. I've done probably 15k of those miles towing trailers from 1500lbs (boats, jetskis, motorcycles, etc - 750kg) to my 24' enclosed with a car in it weighing around 7700lbs (3500kg). No issues with the window seals, still amazingly quiet in the cabin for any car but especially for a pickup at 75mph on the highway. The Lariat does have more sound deadening though I think. As for gas mileage, I usually get around 16mpg with all the hills around here, 13 towing the 1500lbs and anywhere from 7.5-9.5 towing the 7700lb enclosed. I get 9.5 pretty consistently towing 7000 (dodge woods truck) on an open trailer, so aero of the trailer really matters. I do 65-70 while towing usually. If I'm driving 65 with no trailer, I can get up to about 23mpg in some areas, but usually more like high 18s to low 19s. Pro-tip to anyone who wants to hear these trucks more, get the K&N intake. It's quiet when you're just cruising (same as stock), but SUPER loud inside and out when you put the hammer down. Sounds great but with all the towing I do in northeast US and the hills I'll be pulling a long hill in 3rd gear (6spd) and it got annoying so I went back to stock after around 10k.
Yes to supercrew with a 6.5 ft bed in the 150 series to be able to carry more than a wheelbarrow does! My 2015 Lariat with the Coyote gets very similar mileage to what you mentioned... almost like it's the same truck ;) 276,000 miles now, and have had some repairs along the way, but nothing really unexpected for the mileage. Both rear wheel seals leaked all over the rear brakes (both the shoes and calipers), trans cooler lines rusted out at the heat exchanger on the front cross member, rad hose o-ring started weeping, and water pump bearings started whining. Only odd thing I would say was a blend door actuator went bad. I love the quiet, smooth (stock suspension) ride as well as the capability towing!
2020 5.0, 3.55 rear end with 22k miles. Flawless so far. Only thing I wish I had was the 3.73 gearing. I tend to lock out 10th gear in the TX hill country to keep it closer to the power band. Lugs or downshifts a lot in 10th unless I’m on perfectly flat roads.
I would have liked a moderate towing test. Maybe a 4K load on a 2K trailer. Something common that most would tow. How the truck handles the weight, Sway, shifting in the powerband.
I've had a 2013 tundra, a 2012 ram, and just got a 2015 5.0 f150 lariat 502a. Hands down the best truck I have owned. I love the tech, I love the 5.0, I love the space. The only thing I dislike is the gas mileage;)
My 2020 loaded lariat is burning oil like crazy. Ford has had my truck since 6/14/22 and is going to replace the engine under warranty. Sounds great. Problem is they still have no idea when the engine is coming. I’m trading it in for a 3.5.
Agreed get rid of those wheels, tires and exhaust ha! probably get better fuel mileage too. Probably the best gas engine you can still get for the F150.
I have a 2020 F150 Crew cab 4x4. It's the same color as this one, I have the 2.7L V-6. The truck consistently will give me 22 to 23 mpg average. Local driving I have got as high as 26 mpg. I only have 20,000 miles on it , I have had zero problems. I under coated the truck with Texaco Grease coat when I bought it so the bottom is excellent. I have seen 2021 Chevy frames that look like they have seen several winters and are all rusted. Anybody that has a new Chevy wants to keep track of the ground cable on the frame to cab on the passenger side front. They corrode and will lose ground after only 2 to 3 years and cause all kinds of electrical problems with everything! Personally I have always been Chevy/GMC but was sick of trying to stay ahead of the rust issues.. So far I am loving my FORD.
My 2019 5.0 10 speed f150 had the trans pan crack and cause it to overheat sporadically. Also had the ac start draining in the passenger front floorboard. Both issues happened around 75k miles.
I have a 2018 F150 XLT, CrewCab, 5.0, 10R80, 6.5 bed FX4, I still love this truck, mine only has 24k on it. Oil issue was dipstick and reprogram the PCM to fix.
Its more about how they have been taken care of and what the local hwy depts use for snow and ice. Like I said I have seen many fords with destroyed frames. Seen many dodges and chevys too. Had an 04 chevy and I had to do a complete back half. Picked it up in WV. My 01 gmc has zero rust under it.
@@countryracer69 yep my dad bought this new , lived in the garage most of its life still has less than 100,000 on the big block, he used it to tow a fifth wheel a little bit then got too old, he bought it to keep up with my Ford 460.
I have a 2019 SuperCrew 4wd with the 5.0 and 3.73 gears. 47k miles and factory stock in every way. At 77mph cruise on level ground with no wind I can count on 19.5 mpg. Any headwind at all, though, and it quickly drops into the high 18's. Knock it down to 67 mph and economy jumps to 21.5 - 22 mpg. In town I regularly get 18+ mpg, but I'm pretty chill (my wife says I drive like a 90 year old on Valium). With the deeper diff gearing and insanely steep 1st to 5th gear ratios, it's hotrod-quick off the line. Let it eat and it will easily break the tire loose in the first few gears. It also means even the slightest bit of moisture or dust on the road results in low-speed traction issues. It's so comfortable we use it as our road trip vehicle even though my wife has a much better equipped leather-trimmed lux sedan. No probs except for the ubuquitous rear leaf spring isolator pop. Isolators were replaced twice under warranty and it always comes back after a while. I just ignore it now. Would I buy it again? Absolutely.
At work we have a regular cab w/ the 2.7 eco/10spd and it is the roughest riding 1/2 ton I've ever been in. We have 2 crew cab 3.3/6spd and they ride very smooth.
Awesome video and I am strongly considering one of these newer (slightly used) F150s with basically this exact setup (but without the aftermarket rims/exhaust because I too am old and also actually like the factory rims :). This video format/theme is really helpful and I think many of the others will appreciate this type of review series on newer used trucks (because the brand new msrp is way outside of the average person's budget).
I believe there should be a correction at 9:52. Ford took away their manual transmission options from the F150 around 2011, and their base transmission (with the base 3.3 Duratec) was the 6 speed automatic.
@@madflyer1093 yup, NA gettin' screwed over with lack of manual options. There are a few still making that option available (top of my head, Hyundai Elantra N model) but since 2018, it's impossible to order a new truck with the fun stick option, and that's a good part of the reason i'll keep my daily going for many more years to come.
I have 2020 3.5 King Ranch all good! The only time I have rough or harsh shifting is when I have old fuel. That 36 gallon tank lasts a long time. After 30 days I do notice the shifting. Fresh fuel, and it is not an issue. I am getting 19 MPG over all, heavy on city driving
My two cents- on your fun car go for it with the aftermarket exhaust and the fancy wheels but if it's your daily just make it quiet, smooth and comfortable.
I'm getting to that age where the daily driver daydream is a luxury SUV where I sit in the back seat. No more wheel/tire/exhaust mods for me on something I drive every day
I have a 2019 F150 with the same transmission and with the 3.5 L ecoboost. The engine is awesome, the tranny went at 80k. It's been in the shop for 3 weeks and counting atm. Luckily it's been covered under warranty. I do love it though.
Question: I also just got a 2020 F150 Lariat with 20k on it. My first Ford (Chevy guy) and worried about that 10 speed tranny if/when it goes. How is your still covered under warranty at 80k? I thought 36K miles and warranty was done. Thanks.
I agree with You that Exhaust System is Way too loud and a loud Exhaust System will also cause your vehicle to vibrate... He should have had the Exhaust System coming out the back of the truck instead of the side. That would have helped the loudness and some of the vibration the truck was having...
This is their fix now, their original fix was to replace the engine. Mine was swapped out at 27000 km and I brought it back with the same issue with 80000 km.
As a Ford dealership Tech, the goal is to remove as much fluid through the fill port on the R.H. side, remove the heat shields, let the trans cooler hang, remove bolts, keep gasket with trans, tip the pan forward and down, remove pan, remove bolts and filter. When installing new filter, get a new filter gasket/o-ring (not included with filter!). Then reverse the process! The tricky part is getting the rear pan bolts. Mountain wrenches and wobble sockets are required! Besides that, it's such an easy pan drop! Take caution though...Ford uses multiple dipsticks! You may have a numbered or lettered dipstick. It's hard to find what number or letter you need to be on for your application. For back yard mechanics, drive for 2 miles and and check where the fluid is on your dipstick. Unless you're leaking fluid, this is where you need to be after your fluid exchange. Make sure you use Mercon ULV!!!
Ya, those stretched tires don't do it for me... Actually, in Manitoba, those tires sticking out past the fenders would get you a ticket in short order. Nice truck otherwise.
That is exactly the reason I still have my 2012 f350 with the gas option, extended cab 8 ft box. It's extremely hard to find a non diesel/Ecoboost. naturally aspirated engine with a ft 8 box
I really like my 2016 f150. I have a heavier foot and average 15 MPG highway. Frame is still looking good for Michigan and only reason I am looking to upgrade is because I'm beyond maxing out the 1/2 ton. I need to get a middle of the road 3/4. It has held up to my abuse well.
If I had a truck for only two years I wouldnt expect anything to be wrong at that point. I mean i have a 2007 f150 with only the basic work done. Brakes, rotors, fluids... ex. And 150000 miles on it and still no major issues. That's the kind of quality I expect so I hear about issues on newer F150s and think to myself I'll just stick to 11th gen and older
Rich! I gotta ask, now that a lot of 90s Toyotas are being imported to the states and Canada that are diesel from Japan/Australia and stuff like that, could you get your hands on a diesel Toyota and do an everything wrong with
@@jacobgreer4833 yup, everything is wrong except the engine. Toyota spend so much time designing and making indestructible engines that they can’t make anything else well
One very important flaw, speaking from experience in cold weather the rear crew cabs door locks freeze up and have issues unlocking and latching the door. Fantastic truck, but a very annoying flaw when trying to get to work on time
Get a Ronin drain plug for more controllable oil draining.....and a magnet. The stock non led headlights are way too dim. Add some brighter led bulbs or some aftermarket morimotos. They make a huge improvement for night driving.
Can honestly say at the shop I work at. We have been fairly disappointed with 2018 & up f150s in general. Probably some of the most common issues on 5.0 10r80 trucks we see are timing jobs from rattle on cold start. Tons of issues TSB ect.. with the IWE hubs, usually a grinding noise. Lots of trans complaints especially when it gets cold, in most cases that's just how they are. And last for me is HVAC issues. Poor design on the HVAC box, temp door breaks inside. Overall not the worst, but from my perspective I'd be going with a 2016 5.0 6r80 over the newer ones.
I drive mainly one ton pickups but after driving a few newer fords 150's that 3.5 is the engine I would choose. Those 3.5 are very impressive and actually tow well.
I curse the guy who thought it was a good idea to put the drain plug directly in front of the sway bar. After making a mess of my driveway the first time, I fashioned a funnel out of an old washer fluid bottle that goes between the bar and the pan.
A lot of shops use vacuum oil removal systems these days. If you are interested in fabricobbling one together Chris Notap has a video on how to build one.
Got a 2016 F-150 4X4 with the 5.0 and the 6 speed auto transmission. It was made for the Canadian market so it was bought in Canada, and made it's way the the USA. It has the TXR package witch is only available for trucks on the Canadian market. It gets 21 MPG with the drive line combo it has which includes 3.31 rears. Rides real smooth with stock suspension.
I wish mine got 21 mpg, also a 16 5.0 4x4 with the 6 speed auto. Don't know what the rear gears are, but it's also a crew cab 6.5 foot bed Lariat. I usually sit around 16 with mine, which is mixed highway and town driving.
21 MPG sounds nice! I have a 2015 loaded Lariat crew cab with the coyote, 6.5 ft bed, 3.31 gears, FX4, and am averaging between 17 and 18 mpg. On county roads with a 55 mph speed limit I can easily get more like 22 - 24, but most of what I do is a decent mix of highway and in-town. Oh, and just tripped 276,000 miles earlier this week :)
Considering you looked to be driving rural & main highways for the trip, i must say i'm very surprised with the mileage you achieved with this truck Rich. I'm averaging 17.4mpg in my '03 Ram 3500 6 spd 4WD quadcab, with 516K kms on the odometer.
@working_country ___ I've always considered 300 000 km the ending stage's of a vehicle, just what I've seen but I drive gas sedans not trucks lol, but that is insane
@@Paul2.4T Depends where its from though. 300k km is impressive for anything that had to deal with Canadian winters, but not so much something that spent its time in California or Arizona. (vehicles from dry southern/western states last forever comparatively speaking)
Man, this is a great endeavour. REALLY enjoyed this and would help me choose a new vehicle based on how it previously performed (oil analysis for engine and real owner feedback etc)
The 5.0 was my last choice before the base V6. My 2016 3.5EB would routinely run 8.9L/100km. Many trips London to Ottawa/Montreal and back to confirm. My 2019 f350s best was 9.7L/100km and my 2020s best is 9.5L/100km. My biggest issue with the 5.0 was the lack of low-end torque. 2500rpm is low and the 3.5 out pulls everywhere in the powerband. The crew cab 6.5' bed still has the 2 piece drive shaft
@@harleythrelkeld7587 yes. 9.7L/100km is 24.25mpg and 9.5L/100km is 24.75mpg. 8.9L/100km is 26.4mpg. I had a TDI Jetta that only used 4.3L/100km or 53mpg in town and 3.7L/100km or 63mpg on the highway. Better milage isn't hard to get. Laws of physics clearly state anything over 60mph(96km/h) requires more energy. 80mph requires 28%more energy than 60mph. The bigger the vehicle the more energy is required to keep moving over 60mph.
@@harleythrelkeld7587I use km/L for figuring out the mileage on commercial vehicles. I drive 830km on 270L of fuel is 3.07km/l. It's faster for the lower end of the scale. Planning our camping trip last summer was easy using 17.3L/100km. One way was 1680km ÷100 =16.8 x 17.3 = 290.64L. Works for the other scales too 17.3L/100km works out to be 5.73km/L or 13.6mpg. I like to see the lower numbers on the display(L/100km) vs higher numbers(km/L or mpg)
makes sense, just a value im not used to seeing being in the imperial system, was in the military so i understand most metric things that value though was way out of left field
Quiet in my diet.... I'm 62 and travel on a motorcycle. I hear people say, "loud exhaust systems are the secret to safety". This of course has nothing to do with your truck, but I'll get to my point soon enough. I've been riding street motorcycles for 43 years without an accident, that's because of lighting, not noise. When it comes to putting a lot of miles in your rear view mirror, and this includes those four wheeled beasts, you don't want to ear blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh for ten hours. Neither do other motorists. My motorcycle, a Yamaha FJR1300a, super sport touring bike, and me with a half helmet, is so quiet that going down the road at 55, and the windshield up, is nearly as quiet as my car at the same speed with a couple of windows cracked open. Believe me it's well enjoyed too. I've ridden 952 miles in a day, or about 18 hours. Quiet is what I want in my diet, and it reduces fatigue.
Just got a 2020 f150 with 20k miles and had to take back to the dealer for warranty on the transmission. Shifts really hard sometimes with a metallic sounds
I'm a Chevy fan, and have a 2020 Silverado 1500, 5.3, double cab. Had I seen this, I would have considered the F150. Painted frame and aluminum body are pretty tempting living in NS, Canada. I do get better L/100km though even with just the 8 speed, leveling kit, slightly oversized tires, and no air damn, I'm at 12. I've got a Flowmaster Super 10 on and it's just right IMO.
@@ryanolep1078 the oil itself will hold up just fine, but the amount of particulate that ends up in the oil is going to be nearly the same with whatever type you use.
I've got an older version of the truck, and have always gone by the dash indicator, and the oil analysis from Blackstone has several times confirmed it was legit. Typically the truck asked for it every 10k miles, and based on what was sent in, the lab said I could push it out to 12 safely, so I figured continuing to do it when the truck asks for it left me safe with a 20% margin for error.
I agree. I work in a GM dealership, and have found that customers who go by the oil life monitor, are the ones who have timing chain and oil consumption issues.
The message to change the oil is at a set time, I had the oil changed last yr in November, and now exactly a yr later it has come back saying to change it. I have only drove 1,568 mi since the change last yr

The physics of comfort seems to pass over the heads of many vehicle owners... Thorough review thanks Rich and Aaron.
But it’s not the best seller. Ford doesn’t put f150 sales numbers out. So how can you say that. Oh yeah your a moron
Ford builds the best trucks for sure. Just the facts!
I have a 2018, 5.0 cc 6.5’ bed. Fantastic truck, zero issues, 100% I’d buy the exact same truck again Great review
Thanks for the input!
With that 5.0 screaming at 4000 rpm towing something would drive a person insane
Agreed, I had an 18 5.0 F150 with stock exhaust. Towing a trailer and RZR with it was plenty loud, no thanks on aftermarket exhaust 👎🏻
My 2017 5.0 F150 has a steel oil pan with an angled drain plug. Sway bar isn't an issue. That plastic pan and quick release looks like something the accounting department engineered
the first couple years of the 6.7 powerstroke had the plastic oil pan crap then they got smart and put a normal metal one on them
@@nou8257 yep, my 2015 6.7 has a metal pan
I previous owned the 2018 f150 Lariat 5L coyote I put 200km on it before I traded it in for an F350 I will say this my f-150 always ran great but also sucked up 1.5liters of oil for every 5000km +/- I would buy another one for sure hopefully the latest gen don't burn oil like my 18 did
Thanks for posting guys!
What the fuck kind of wheel and tire combo is that
When you drain the oil, rotate the plug until it releases and then pull it back just far enough to get flow.
I have a Red 2020 XLT too except mines a crew cab and a 3.5, Powers great, tows awesome. Happily buy the truck again.
My wife likes the sound of exhaust, but building custom exhaust for a living has made me appreciate stock quiet mufflers especially at 70 .
Is that why she married an exhaust guy?

I grew up with Mexicans doing it like that since forever. A stock toyota with whee sticking out 6 inches plus
I ❤️ sidewalls.
The only trucks that ever given us issues is the Nissan NV25/3500 van and a 06 f550 we had back in the day with a 6.0. She had 3 different turbos during ownership.
They probably put the drain plug behind the sway bar on purpose to prevent quick change oil change guys from using tools on the plug and breaking the plastic pan
so you're telling me they intentionally designed it poorly to make up for the fact they used subpar materials
@@daslynnter9841 Possible, but let's be real- quick-change boys fuck up steel just as easy as composite. Torque spec is always in ugga-duggas
Most of those plastic plugs I see don't have the tit for removal, usually a 3/8s drive sized recess so you can get the impact on it 👌

I bought a brand new 2020 F-150 with the 5.0 in 2020. I have had NO problems EXCEPT, I’m noticing about 1-2 qt of oil loss at 3.000 miles.
Wow
Had a New 2018 5.0 and the 10R80 trans was definitely a big gripe. Hesitant shifting, hard shifting, can’t tell you how many times I called the dealer to have them diag it. Flashed the tcu TWICE, and it would still go back. Loved it other than the trans.
did you sell it because of the issues?
For the engine oil drain issue.. Flexible funnel. Works good.
I was thinking some sort of U shaped tube to control the flow.
My 2020 loaded lariat is burning oil like crazy. Ford has had my truck since 6/14/22 and is going to replace the engine under warranty. Sounds great. Problem is they still have no idea when the engine is coming. I’m trading it in for a 3.5.
Just can’t do those rims and tires.. stockers with some at’s looks best..
3.5 ecoboost 2020 XLT 4X4, tow a camper 29,000 miles, no issues at all so far. Change the oil with Full synthetic every 3 to 5,000 miles.

Absolutely.

I agree with You that Exhaust System is Way too loud and a loud Exhaust System will also cause your vehicle to vibrate... He should have had the Exhaust System coming out the back of the truck instead of the side. That would have helped the loudness and some of the vibration the truck was having...
I have a 2018 and it had the oil consumption issue. Fords fix was a tsb update and a longer dip stick. Other than that I haven't had any major issues.
A longer dipstick seems like a complete and utter nonsense to me

That's the most college fix I've heard. Hilarious.
This is their fix now, their original fix was to replace the engine. Mine was swapped out at 27000 km and I brought it back with the same issue with 80000 km.
I heard they also reflash the PCM. They say there is too much vacuum on decel and it sucks the oil through the PCV.
You don't need to touch the exhaust to drop the trans pan. Just let the cooler hang down and tilt the pan. Comes out really quickly!
How about the trans filter coming out?
@@paulhunter9613 What specifically are you asking?
Also, ALWAYS check fluid level while vehicle is running! Park or Nutral, level ground. 185°‐215°F. Mercon ULV expands alot.
I own a 20 F150. Love the 2.7 with 50,000. miles. I’ve done nothing to it. Nothing except regular maintenance!
I did the leveling kit and alignment so I’m very happy you like the front suspension 😂
Dude complaining about paint problems, then runs wide tires and no mud flaps.
Edit, there are mud flaps, just way to small to be any help.
Ya, those stretched tires don't do it for me... Actually, in Manitoba, those tires sticking out past the fenders would get you a ticket in short order. Nice truck otherwise.
I’m not a Ford guy but respect for an extended cab V8. So tired of ecoboost full 4 doors with a short bed.
That is exactly the reason I still have my 2012 f350 with the gas option, extended cab 8 ft box.
It's extremely hard to find a non diesel/Ecoboost. naturally aspirated engine with a ft 8 box
try 90 degrees Celsius if you go west a bit, less rust though
Good driving review, nice to include mpg, the ability to service or even check fluid on trans on most makes is a pain and expensive.

If you get the payload package in the F-150 it will be better on fuel when not towing and still haul a good load.

The eco boost engines have come a long way bit I'd still prefer the v8 over a turbo v6.
I’m a big fan of loud exhaust, but now that I have kids I appreciate a quieter aftermarket system.
Drain plug there is a unit online to replace with an better one that has a piece that allows you to divert the oil and control the flow like a faucet
I have 2018 F150 5L Platinum with 118k. No problems so far. 19 to 20 mpg hwy.
Oh, and just tripped 276,000 miles earlier this week :)
yea stretched tires all froggy style is weird to me about all i see wrong
Yeah, all those black ice trees and the wheels hanging out of the tires… Imma head out
Great video and great idea to review vehicles this way
I would like to see a review on the same rig but with the 3.5 ecoboost motor
Considering you looked to be driving rural & main highways for the trip, i must say i'm very surprised with the mileage you achieved with this truck Rich. I'm averaging 17.4mpg in my '03 Ram 3500 6 spd 4WD quadcab, with 516K kms on the odometer.
516k?!?! Rock on!!! Hope she never dies, that's badass
A good honest review Rich.
Great job, we don't get the F150's over here. That didn't stop me watching though. :)
Same-ish, we have maybe 1-2 dealerships that import American market cars as new but that’s not really official
The crew cab 6.5' bed still has the 2 piece drive shaft
are you talking fuel mileage?
Ive just never seen metric mileage in a written form i knew it wasn't measured km/L though although to me thatd make more sense
For oil change I use aluminum foil and build a cone to cause the oil drain down - less mess - are not the sway bar bolts “no retorque”
But... Is the fuse box labeled? 🤔
Nice video! You should make a video of a 2020 Tundra.
Nice that Ford Paints the Frames our 2018 Chevy Work truck is already looking ruff, and it doesn't get daily driven in the winter.
To be fair to the motor, if he’s changing the oil based on the light coming up on the dash, he’s not changing the oil nearly enough.
A full synthetic is probably good for 30k. He’s changing the oil plenty.
