Thank you for this. My long haired part Persian cat not only gets matted and HATES being groomed (which is why he GETS matted) but he is also a biter. A saber-tooted, puncture creating, blood drawing biter. Just found this mat and tangle remover at Chewy for $8.86 and going to order one. Fingers crossed it works plus wanted to advise anyone watching where I found it since some of the older comments indicated viewers were having trouble finding this item. Your video was great and I am so glad I found it!!! THANK YOU!!
P.S. I also saw a vet video that recommended (prior to beginning your grooming session) using a small amount of coconut oil, rubbed into your hand/fingers in order to warm it up, and then gently massaging it at the root of the mat which loosens it up at the skin's surface and makes it easier to remove.

I want to thank you for this. My cat was badly matted, and I’ve been trying to find the best way to comb her. I found your video, and decided to get the Four Paws tangle remover, based on your recommendation that it was amazing. I’m in the EU - there were NONE of these to be found anywhere. All the places that used to sell them in the US no longer had them, and Four Paws apparently now makes something different and no longer makes the one in your video. I finally found ONE, in California! While the mat remover was only about $8, the shipping to me was $25...lol. I didn’t care - I bought it, and I’m GLAD that I did. This thing is almost like magic, and is so superior to all of the other things I’ve tried. I don’t understand why they don’t make it anymore. Anyway, thanks very much for your recommendation. This truly is the holy grail of mat removers! Edit: I saw your video originally about one month ago, and had to come back here again to thank you for posting.....

THANK YOU!!!!!!!! OMG I just got my Four Paws Magic Coat Instant Mat Removing Comb. 30 seconds, it took 30 seconds to de-mat my poor cat who has had matted fur ever since this pandemic and all grooming places are closed or won't take cats. Now my cat is happy and I don't feel like a terrible cat owner. Thank You!!!!

Your comment would seem less like a product plug from the company itself if you didn't use the whole name or referred to the brush as "it".
However, I find myself being very picky/anal and feeling the need to state a full and exact name of whatever I'm talking about. Just be aware that both you and I can potentially sound weird, or can take impact away from our most likely selfless points to prob aly help others, when we do that.

This tool IS the holy grail of mat deshedders. I found that if you hold the mat at the base of the mat ,and move through the fur but DO NOT PULL but break apart the mat with the deshedder it works great. Also apply olive oil to the mat at the base of the mat and on the adjoining skin, Leave it until the next day then" 1 day use this tool and if you do the same thing on day 2 and day 5 you can dematt even a badly matted Persian or other long haired kitty that hates grooming. I give my girl a treat when we are done. I also do not expect her to "last " beyond 20-30 min even though you are not hurining her at all with this method they just can't handle the stress and being "restrained ". If you purchase a kitty with long fur socialize them to grooming immediately or you and kitty will struggle forever with grooming. Also if kitty is really stressed use Rescue Remedy(OTC herbal ) -follow the package instructions they are simple and excellent.

Purchased a low vibrating electric shaver to remove mats. Less stress on both pet & groomer.

Three Rag Doll cats totally agree with your conclusion! Along with the “Steamy Brush” the V brush is the best brush we have ever used. Two of our cats hated to be brushed and now they at least tolerate it.😸😸😸❤️

Thanks- I want to try that. I can use a curved blade autoclave to clip mat clumps but I need to bunch the fur into it to be sure to not cut skin. I can't get her chest fur at all lately and its a big mat. I need something I can use with one hand and hold her from attacking with other. Does that thing just pop out the clump by combing action?

Going to see if I can find this in a minute. Fingers crossed it works. We have a siamese mix and she was obviously very well taken care of before she ended up with us and I want to keep her looking and feeling like the queen that she is. I know I sound like an idiot lol but we just love her to bits and the best part is she actually LIKES being brushed! Not for hours or anything but she will definitely tolerate it 5 or so minutes at least and several times a day but I let her let me know when she's had enough. And I noticed her first mat tonight since she's been with us so was looking for a way to try and get it out with as little pain as possible and came across this. She was ok with me gently brushing it with a slicker brush but that isn't doing anything and the last thing I want to do is ruin a good thing and have her go running anytime I pick up a brush or comb. Wish me luck.

I was looking for the instructions in the "holy grail" of de-matters that I just ordered and received, when I came across your video. My cat is a Siamese mix with a whole lot of undercoat. I haven't found a brush, rake, or anything, that worked and didn't cause her a lot of stress and pain. I used a trimmer which looked horrible when I was done and had areas that looked bald. A few other times I had to trim the mats out. They are close to her skin and I didn't want to cut her. I'll let you know how it goes.

Yeah I tried that but I need someone to hold him still even when hes sleepy. I can't stand to hear him cry a little while I'm trying to do it myself. So I spend the $40.00 to go to the groomers, now my problem is to get rid of his "bad breath", never had a cat that had this problem, next trip is to the vets to find out why.

If you have a long hair cat, you need to buy a pair of cat clippers and a furminator grooming brush. Using the furminator will remove that loose dead fur. Don’t baby your cat and ignore it, unless you want matts.

    DAMN IT!
You sound like me! I believe ElCucho got pissed 😤 off because I took him to house sit.
Then the mats came back, at my Friend’s house he was able to sleep on her bed.
Able to throw her collectibles, he is deaf from early abuse.
So, therefore he LOVES vibrations exploding things make.
That’s why he has full reign of the outer room.
Everything is kept behind glass, I had another abused female.
She was Beautiful 😻 Sweet, and loved 🥰 porcelain and glass.
So, Sissy was wonderful in the bedroom.
She went into renal failure 3 weeks shy of her 19th Birthday.
That was 10 months ago the 28th of June.
You appear to have the same amount of combs, brushes as I did.
NOTHING, NOTHING works I took him for his yearly check up.
The tech was told to electric razor his mats.
    He looks HORRIBLE!
She left half of his mats.
Any comb, advice, where I can buy what works for you will be greatly appreciated. 1:16 so I will SHUT UP and continue with your video.
    We are both desperate!

You didnt actually show any mat removing. My 19 year old will not be contained or held down in any way. She will immediately scratch and bite. She is very sweet but lived most of her life outside until I rescued her. It is so difficult to find someone who knows how to really remove mats especially on difficult cats who cannot be sedated.

  • @catmagic2226
    @catmagic2226 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I had one of those.
    Nope.
I use my fingers to un-swirl mats at the base, near skin.
My cats sleep while I groom!
Took me 3 years to learn.
No more scratches from my 'teachers' so I know I'm helping them not hurting them.
I think your review is biased...your cat doesn't like the matbreaker.

Why must our fur babies be so difficult??? I am going to try the comb as we have a long haired bratty feline who has a number of mats on her back and butt! She's NOT my cat; she is my daughter's! Not sure how in God's name she got these mats but she absolutely HATES just the sound of the clippers! I'd shave her bald and start over if she would let me!! Fingers crossed that this works; otherwise, she will have to go to the vet and be shaved under some sedation I think!!! How ridiculous would that be to have to pay for that to happen!!!

    • @RebeccaMeyer
      @RebeccaMeyer  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Patricia Wyda I’ve paid my fair share to the vet for sedation too! Now I trick Ollie a bit...I start with the human “wet brush” (it’s a brand) on his face. He likes his face brushed...then I sneak in the matting brush...it’s a process just have patience.
