      Which brush do you use?

    • @Vicky-gi7ci
      @Vicky-gi7ci 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@fahmidatazbeeh3114 I just use the brush I use on my dog. She’s a short haired dog so I use a brush that’s kind of like a soft horse grooming brush, I feel it leaves my babies’ fur soft and gets rid of the extra hair from shedding very well and gently. I just make sure to use it lightly as brushing too hard could irritate their skin due to the fact it doesn’t have smooth beads at the ends like a regular brush has.
      Think of it like gelling down your edges with a toothbrush; it’s good for the small amount of hair, but could hurt your skin if you press too hard :p

      Tahini I agree with the other lady on the Chom Chom. It's this felt like roller that u go back & forth with in small strokes & it picks everything up!! It even stores the hair u collect in a lil trap door that u just empty out. It's the best thing ever & seriously life changing! It will pick up lint & even small pieces of dirt & debris. I keep one on my coffee table & use it daily on my couch if not several times a day. U can also use it on ur clothes for lint & pet hair & u don't have to keep buying lint rollers. I even do my sheets with it bc my cat sleeps in my bed. I use it on things with cat hair on them before I put them in the washing machine so all that hair doesn't get in my machine. Here's a link if u need it. It's $25 & the best spent $25!! I sound like I work for them but I don't...it just changed the game for me. amzn.to/3wXmvJI

    By brushing your cat you're supposed to only brush out the hair that isn't attachated to skin anymore or that is barely hanging. Brushes like furminator don't do that, they cut the healthy fur and destroy cats' coats. You can see plenty of pictures online from people who used it - before their cats had beautiful, shiny, thick fur and after using furminator for some time it became matte and thin, some even had bald spots. People but it because they think they must be amazing if so much fur comes out, but it's actually healthy fur that shouldn't come out. I mean, why would it have a blade if it wasn't the case? Try brushing your human hair with it, I tried it on a strand of my hair and it was cut right off

    • @lovely_poekie
      @lovely_poekie 3 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Came here looking for a comment like this. I almost destroyed my cat's beautiful coat with the furminator, it was already getting dull. My vet recommended not to use it at all, but if I insisted on using it to only do so sparingly and going over each section of fur only once. Definitely not as rigorously as they did in the video!

    • @neliaferreira9983
      @neliaferreira9983 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I was under the impression that the Furminator was a medical tool, for special cases related to fur. It does seem aggressive, and that is why it looked to me it would be helpful when there are so many fleas or for some reason the skin needs be rid of fur for faster renewal or something.

    • @ugotnojams3755
      @ugotnojams3755 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Furminators are perfectly fine as long as you are mindful about how you use them. It is a metal comb that is blunt on the outside but sharp like a razor on the inside between the prongs, which is why the Furminator thins out undercoat but generally leaves the top layer intact. However, it can absolutely cut away underhair and even cause bald spots but only when used often as a regular brush or on the same spots over and over. Rather it is intended to be used as a occasional brush during shedding season in spring.

    Wessie was really into it. You can tell from his attitude that he gets regular brushings. Two of my cats are also really into it. Nipper lines up for brushings multiple times a day, his silver fur is very fine and like velvet. He has a very thick coat. Bunny is a long furred cat, pretty much a Norwegian Forest variety. He trades me a professional grade thoracic and abdominal massage for a brushing. I really make out on that one. The brush I use for him is a boar bristle one of a certain stiffness.

    The best brushes for my cats are the people brushes for detangling. Also the little round brush (also for people) at the dollar tree. They both have very flexible soft plastic bristles. The soft bristles feel great to cats and you can brush them hard without hurting the kitties. while they might not get all the shedding fur, almost all cats love them. I also buy them and use them at the shelter where I volunteer.

    The Safari self-cleaning slicker brush is sometimes used in taxidermy, brushing things like moose, bear, coyote, and goat fur. If it can stand uo to that sort of abuse, it's a sturdy one for your cat, assuming they aren't sttacking it.

    I use the Go Pets rake/comb. I have a senior kitty that cannot groom completely. so this gets the matting where her capability stops. She has medium average fur, that gets oily (black tortoise shell). My middle kitty tolerates this much better than any other grooming tool and the way the tines curl do not scratch, plus the blades seem to cut through the matting rather than pulling through. She has medium length, super plush fur with a heavy undercoat (she is a solid black ragdoll/Persian mix). My youngest kitty (calico) has smooth short fur, so I just bought a Kent men's beard comb (which has very smooth, sturdy and short teeth) and she loves her combing sessions. I love your reviews of fur babe products!

    Our cat loves brush time. She will go to the brush and rub her head on it and chirp at me when she wants brushed. I watch her body language sometimes she only wants a few minutes other times we could go on a long time. She may move away for a moment then return for more so its important to read your cat while brushing.
    She is a medium-short hair. I use a small or medium slicker with retractable pins for easy cleaning. The retractable pins are a big help cleaning the brush after use.

    Great reviews!!👍👍. My beloved fur baby only likes to be brushed with one kind of brush and it’s a Dollar Tree human hair brush😭😭😭😭💕🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️. I’ve purchased a variety of other brushes that I think she would like (as a short hair) but nope!! She Looooooves her Dollar Tree brush and would just lie around and be brushed w/ it 24/7 if I had the time😭😭💕💕💕💕💕💕

    One reason for brushing your cat that you didn’t mention, is that regular brushing can help reduce the problem of hair balls, particularly with long hair cats. Cats swallow a lot of hair in their self grooming and that hair can come back as hair balls that they throw up. Hair in the digestive system can also become a problem of compaction in the bowels, something that happened with my long hair cat. The vet gave him an enema and prescribed Cat Lax, or similar product, to keep him moving his bowels. This has been very beneficial, but I think reducing the amount of hair he ingests will be also help. The first brush you demo looks like it may be just what I need for this issue. Thanks.

    I have a slicker brush exactly like the first except it has fine plastic dipped tips that make it much softer against the skin and so far this is the only brush that she tolerates but also gets the job done.

      Hi, I'm curious to know if you work in animal rescue or did you just find and take in the feral cat? I only ask because I've spent the last 25 years working with various animal rescue organizations in my area and have quite alot of experience dealing with ferals. The volunteers actually gave me a knickname "The Tiny Tiger Tamer" because I seem to have a natural ability to tame all types of feral cats. I think I've socialized about 20 to 30 ferals over the years. You wrote that it has taken you 4 years to get to the point where you are able to brush him/her, which is pretty standard. It's a long process but once you work that hard and the feral cat finally surrenders to you with full trust, there's no other feeling like it! They want so badly to be loved but have that life saving instinct which keeps them from being able to give in to that trust. I love hearing that other people care enough about these special little creatures to spend so much time and put in so much effort in order to give them a chance at a normal life. I thank you for the hard work you've done and for being such an empathetic person. If you need any advice or just want to tell me about your journey, I'd be happy to help. Just reply to my message and I'll figure out a way that we can connect. Take Care, Cathy (from Montreal, Quebec, Canada)

    I don't own a cat but my neighbor's cat spends most of his outdoor time on my front porch. I bought a brush similar to the first one she used but the tips are coated with a soft rubber coating.
    When I first brought out the comb he wasn't too sure about me using it on him. After two strokes, he stretched out as much as he could. Now he looks for the comb when I come out.

    My cat's hair is not too short but not too long either she's probably like 12 weeks and since she was born I've only brushed her several times since I didn't had a brush, now that I do she doesn't like it and she bites and scratches. I don't mind the bites and scratches all I want is for her to get used to it so like that she don't shed down the road. I have the Furminator brush I got it at Big lots for like $12 instead of $30 at Walmart

    I need to brush mine more often - with eight of them, the tumbleweeds get thick fast. Gilmore the Orange Menace loooooves to be brushed, and somehow senses any time one of the others is getting some attention and quickly appears for his share. I too find the silicone brushes are great for extracting loose fur, but definitely don't hold it at all - wind up trying to collect it in my free hand and get more on me than what stays in my hand. Recently got a long haired Persian, and that GoPets deshedding tool is a must. I'm lucky, mine arrived unscathed handle-wise. I find the gel makes it very comfortable to hold; sorry to hear yours has a leak. Yuk!

    I bought a dematting comb/rake very much like the one in this video, and it was much less expensive and didn't have that weird handle, which seems like a problem waiting to happen. Mine is Pet Republique. There are several similar ones on Chewy of different brands.
    My cat has long hair which is very subject to matting, so I need something, and this works fairly well. She tolerates it to a point, and it helps, but pulls the matted fur more than is comfortable, which is hard to avoid without cutting mats out.

    To all cat parents, before you use the brush on your cats, please use the brush on your skin and your hair first. Because I had been using KONG Zoom Groom on my two cats and at first I thought they work pretty good, until one day I tried to brush my hair with it just to test it and it pulled my hair so badly and my head was in so much pain. I have medium hair length. This KONG Zoom Groom is definitely NOT good for long hair cats and medium hair cats. It will pull their long hair or medium hair and they would feel the pain. Again, please test the brush or comb on your hair and skin first. Also I bought the Furminator and I tested it on my skin and it's very sharp that it kinda of scratch my skin and leave some thin lines on my skin. I decided not to use this on my cats because if it's too rough for me, it is too rough on my cats.

      @Love Kittens What brushing tool do you recommend? I have a long haired cat (Persian) that hates being brushed if it goes on for more than 2 minutes. Little knots can appear overnight but would love to find a brush that works but is comfortable for my cat! Thank you 😊

      @@XXANGELRXX Thanks for your reply, mine re short hair cats but even they are short hair cats, they dislike Kong Zoom Groom and they act like they are in pain when I use it, I think the Zoom Groom pull their hairs hard even they have short hair. They would not let me use Zoom Groom on them for more than 20 seconds or so. So I think as long as it’s not Zoom Groom it would be fine. To be honest I have bought many brushes for them and I still have not found the perfect one. But they seem to love the cat shell comb, they love me to brush their hair with cat shell comb and I can comb their hair with that for a long time, they act like they are enjoying a cat spa. U can find a lot of them on sale on amazon, they are very inexpensive compare to other cat brushes. I also got the genuine boar bristle (which is made in Germany) on amazon. There are many genuine boar bristle that are made in Germany on Amazon! The genuine boar bristle is also one of their favourites, it costs more but it’s totally worth it! I also recommend the webpage at www.reddit.com/r/brushybrushy where u can find videos of cats enjoying being brushed! I check that webpage occasionally to find the perfect cat brush! Cats’ reactions don’t lie, their reactions tell u which brush they like! I hope this helps! 😸😸
