I went back and forth on spelling curriculums as well, but I recently started using spelling power. And it is really working. I really like the way they have it set up with all the pretest. There is also a box that has ways to practice spelling words. It has definitely helped my children.

I also find the good and the beautiful a bit feminine and my boy is a boys boy too. Although he is only doing preschool next year , I’m already thinking of a different LA curriculum for him other than TGATB. Can’t wait to see what you have chosen for the new year

Thank you for the review! I always appreciate reviews because we see all the curriculum picks everybody makes in the start of the year but don’t always see them reviewed. I especially like watching the reviews and picks for your oldest because he is half a grade (we are in the states) ahead of my son and we use many of the same curriculum choices so it’s always so helpful to see what you chose and how it went! Thanks!

Thank you! My 4th graders used tgatb la last year and I felt they were lacking in spelling so much in that curriculum, as well as the creative writing. Were doing all about reading and spelling this school year to make up for it.

Love this overview!! I have a 4th grader as well and seeing how you’ve bounced around makes me more confident in how we did things last year lol! I’m also going to check out Math with Confidence! That’s our big struggle!!

We just discovered Sonlight LA and I'm really impressed. Especially with the readers. We are liking it more than TGTB LA

Loved hearing your recap! My now-18 year old sister has never jived with spelling. She ended up using Spelling You See for a long time but to this day...she has many strengths and spelling isn't one of them. lol!

      I’m 36 and I still can’t spell!!!🤣
Think it’s just one of those things that you’re either good at it or you’re not.
Thankfully there is spell check and auto correct! Although sometimes I am right and autocorrect changes it and makes it wrong!🤣

Very much looking forward to your curriculum picks!
    My kids need rules too!
Looking for language arts for a second grader and kindergartener for next year.
    Always love your ideas!!!

We’ve tried every spelling out there it feels like and what is clicking finally is spelling power. This is after spelling you see, all about spelling, spelling wisdom, sequential spelling, BJU, Evan Moor, phonetic zoo, spelling wisdom, and I’m sure I’m missing some.

What a nice overview! Thank you for mentioning Times Tales. We need a fresh resource, and that might be perfect.

Have you looked into Spelling Connections? I haven't used it yet with my kiddos, but I plan to next year because it seems like a very worthwhile curriculum.

My oldest will be going into 4th next year and we plan on using TGTB level 4. I’m interested in how their writing book works with the course book. I agree that level 3 has been somewhat lacking in structured writing. Hoping it gets better. 😅 We will be doing IEW with our coop so between IEW and TGTB I feel like it’ll be rounded out quite nicely.

I'm sure with IEW it'll be great. :)

I just finished level 4 TGTB with my daughter with the writing book and I still feel the same after level 3. I'm ordering IEW for this semester before moving her into 5th grade. I still love TGTB but I agree with Christine, some of us just like to have rules! 😅

Why didn't you come back to All About Spelling? I remember your review video about level 1 and you said that it boosted your son's confidence at that time and brought him back on track etc. You even mentioned that in case of any issues, you would probably use the level 2... So why you didn't do it? I'm just curious, because my son also struggles with spelling, we've recently switched to "A Reson For Spelling" which seems to work great (it has a lot of different multisensory suggestions of practicing spelling so he can literally choose whatever works for him best, and also it's Christian so I really like it), but we'll see after a longer time of using it if we'll stick to it. But even if we decide to switch, AAS is probably the only program that I consider instead, so I watch all the reviews to know if there are any cons that I should know about. Thanks in advance for any update on why you didn't decide to come back to AAS again ❤
