Hobbies come in cycles. If you feel its a chore rather than an escape, its time to step away. You usually come back to it later if you really love it.

I had a feeling this was going to happen one day. It’s the same reason I’ve never sold any of my crochet projects or bullet journal spreads, because I knew my hobby if tied to income would eventually lose its point: bringing me joy.
I subscribed to your channel back in 2020 when my bujo obsession took hold, and I took a break this past year after leaving a toxic job and losing my mom to cancer. But now I’m actually in the process of setting up my 2025 bujo because I found I missed it. I’ll still be here even without your bujo content, and if you ever fall back in love with it, it’ll always be there for you and so will we ❤

I am so sorry for your loss❤️ and happy that you’re recently rediscovering your excitement for bullet journaling!
This is something I’ve come across before, mainly when I realized it was time to take a step back from my first career as a performer in musicals. I turned my favourite hobbies into a job, and in some ways, that poisoned my love of the art form. But I am finding after several years away that I’m being drawn back in and finding new ways to appreciate and enjoy dance, singing, and theatre and who knows, maybe someday I will perform again or even make bullet journaling content again 😅
I have found that I struggle with making my job out of something I’m not passionate about, but turning a passion into a job isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, either. But hey, like I said in the video, eight years ain’t bad! I’m ready for a change, and I’m coming to terms with that ❤️ thank you for sharing your experience and for being here!

      What Kirsten said!!!!!
I'm also on a hybrid system! This year I'm using a notebook that has a monthly planner and a handful of yearly pages at the beginning, and then it has an index and the numbered dot grid pages start! The paper has a little more tooth than the one I was using that had a smoother coating, BUT it has enough other features that I love, and I'm excited to be able to take notes and things in it.
BUT i also bought myself a planner with a weekly layout, that I won't use every week probably, but it has a really perfect layout for me on the weeks when the overwhelm is strong 😊

It is literally the most basic of planner systems and that's how I found myself getting back into my bujo. I rely a bit more on my collaging supplies for the visual elements rather than using this as an artistic resource too.

You introduced me to the rolling weekly, and I ultimately jumped from A&O journals (yours were gorgeous!) to a Hobonichi weeks as soon as I realized I had been drawing out the same exact layout by hand for a year. Not having to draw the lines myself, in a pre-dated planner, was a game changer and definitely still counts as bullet journaling.

the beauty of journaling and planning is that it is individualized. Over the years of watching your videos I have done everything from digital tracking, creative journaling, and simplistic journaling and at different times of my life I have enjoyed every single one of them. For 2025, I have decided to go with a traditional planner and a bujo for my reading journal/art journal. Each year I change what I use as I feel it keeps it fresh and there are no "rules". Letting go of such expectations has really allowed me to enjoy my life and journaling without feeling obligated to do it a certain way. It works for me and feels less like a chore. Love ya, can't wait to see whatever you do next.

First, absolutely do what works for you, and if it no longer works, it’s healthy to change to what does work in the now.
That said, I think I need a moment to grieve. You have been linked to: my own discovery of bullet journaling (yes, I still use and rely on my bujo), rediscovery of art and the joy it brings at a time when I really need it, and exploration and wonder when I had lost that for so many years.
I have looked forward to your Plan-with-me videos so much. You have been a friend of sorts since 2019 (when I started bullet journaling). I guess I took for granted that you would be doing this indefinitely, as unrealistic as that is. Your videos cross the lines of generations, too. I, my 86-yo mother, and my 30-yo child have loved taking this journey with you.

You are an artist. I thought I came for your bullet journal videos, but here I am following for videos about books and genres I probably won’t ever read. I stayed for you, for your creativity that it’s infused in every piece of content you put out. You didn’t just create a TH-cam, you created your version of a work of art. The attention to detail and aesthetics for all your content is a form of art in itself. You’re a performer, you can play the piano, you can paint beautifully, you can create very aesthetically pleasing videos to watch, you can make adorable plushies for your nephew, the way you talk is beautiful… There are so many layers that makes you a well rounded artist, your channel is your museum of things. I’m continuing my bujo journey, but naturally it’s changing. I keep adjusting things to make it valuable for my life as my life keeps changing. • @HeidiBidels
    @HeidiBidels หลายเดือนก่อน +26

I think it's so wonderful that you've found a "new" system that works for this season of your life! And really, it's just an evolution of what you were already doing.
A lot of the people who use bullet journals consistently long term (me included 🙌🏻) would find that their set up videos start to get boring very quickly, because once you find what's working there isn't much else to say 😅 and I just don't have time or patience for the full artistic expression month on end - so many set ups ended up frustrating me because they didn't look how I wanted and I wished I was more artistically talented. Now I literally just choose one of my washi tapes to mark the edge of the monthly spread, and a correlating Tombow marker colour to write the date and make my daily pages easier to distinguish when I'm flicking through. E.g. December is a dark Christmasy red.
Every time I've attempted a structured planner I get irritated by the thin paper (Archer and Olive would definitely be a good solution for this 🙌🏻) and also the restriction of weekly spreads. I really like being able to write 3 lines one day and 15 the next. And custom collections like packing lists/Christmas preparation lists/sewing project spreads... All of which get indexed at the front so they aren't lost 😜 and colour coded with stickers in the top corner also so I can flick and find things easily...
Basically, I'm saddened by how many people use it in a repetitive, rigid way and then quit and use a traditional planner and judge other people who are still bullet journaling. The people who say "it's just a planner but you have to draw the lines" or "what a waste of time". Because the whole point is to take the space you need, and don't restrict yourself with boxes and lines everywhere 🫣
None of this is actually aimed at you at all Elizabeth, I feel like you've found the perfect triad for your own needs and I am honestly excited to see more new content from you that isn't necessarily painting, and is more than the same structure/set up month on end. Which is all I'd be showing if I was to share mine 😂

    • @PlantBasedBride
      @PlantBasedBride  หลายเดือนก่อน +4

I relate to so much of what you said! And I think I’ve said myself in many of my plan with me videos over the years that I don’t have much to say or don’t want to repeat myself ad nauseam because I found what worked for me and just repeated it month after month with different themes!
I personally want to use a planner so I can write out events for future months or a few weeks without having to set it up myself or guess how much room I need. However, it definitely feels more restrictive than a blank page that you can set up however you want! I guess that’s the trade-off. And right now, it makes sense for me in my life, but who knows where I’ll be in another decade!
Thanks for sharing your perspective ❤️

I spent 7 years sewing doll clothing as my career. I was insanely successful and had a top Etsy store and after Covid, as of January 2022, I quit. I moved into Substitute teaching to supplement my income while I transitioned to doing TH-cam and pursuing illustration.
Only to find that I didn’t want to take another hobby into a career or business.
I, too, have ADHD and fell into that trap. At 37, I have come to really accept the ebbs and flows of where life takes us.
I am currently moving into teaching and taking all these amazing experiences I have to influence the next generation.
You will love your art as you get to express it for yourself. I love opening up my sketchbooks and challenging myself and knowing it is there to inspire others should I wish to share it. However, I never have to share any pages with anyone and it’s freeing!
Good luck and I hope you continue to share with us about how everything is shifting in your life.

My husband (also has ADHD) and I have been talking about how we’ve felt like we have to hold on to things that aren’t serving us as much anymore because it’s so hard to stick to things in the first place as a neurodivergent person. Also, it feels like society looks down on jumping around to different jobs and careers and even creative outlets, which is so frustrating. Having an identity crisis over a hobby is very relatable. I used to draw and do visual art for a big chunk of my childhood and when I stopped finding joy in it, I couldn't recognize myself. I then moved on to reading and in 2021 I read 65 books or so. The following year when life caught up to me I struggled to even read 20 as I was in highschool and trying to balance my other hobbies. Now, for the past 2 years I've been a lot more relaxed. My hobbies include reading, journaling/writing in my diary, writing poetry, crocheting, scrapbooking, walking, yoga/stretching, baking, and maybe some random things I pick up once in a while (I also believe I have ADHD). Some moments I go MONTHS without doing a specific hobby and that's okay!!! It's all about satisfying your current wants and needs and doing what feels right in the moment. There's no pressure to do more. And you can define your hobbies however you see fit. This video was so comforting, I loved it!!

But, I love the creative part of it. So I decided that I’m going to start a journal that holds everything my brain comes up with. I’m talking journaling about my days and feelings, creative spreads, trackers, vision boards etc, but only if I feel like it. Taking the pressure off to create something presentable and perfect. I consider you an artist. Art comes in many forms! ❤️ I've been doing this bujo journey for 3 years now and honestly, it saved my life and gave me a bit of purpose. I got into it because of the artistic outlet and helped me be more consistent with my art journey. I really enjoy your content and wish you the best in your new endeavors!

Oh this video is making me so nostalgic. I watched your videos so consistently through the pandemic years and was big into bujo at the same time - seeing some of your old spreads from that time is reminding me just how much joy, inspiration and awe I felt in those years and they really were such a place of creative respite and community during tough times. It was always so exciting to see what new art you did each month, but I completely relate to the call to evolve as life changes and grows. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and your journey!

For me, I've really appreciated the Artistic Bujo community online - not because I bujo myself (basic filofax girlie here) but because it finally allowed me to start long-form journalling in a way that I am consistent and incentivised by, which has massively improved both my productivity and mental health.
Learning that when I'm too tired to think about my feelings, I can just put on a pretty video and be inspired to decorate a handful of pages slowly over an hour - and that's OK. Learning that I am *massively* put off by blank, perfect pages when I need to write - and having a pre-decorated "spoilt" page means I can just start, with no mental barrier... Learning that even though I absolutely *cannot* draw, pretty tapes and stickers are available to help me express myself through visual arts...
These have all been really valuable lessons to me, and the tools I have learnt from this community (even if it dies) are things I will carry with me long term, if not for the rest of my life. So thank you for being part of that journey. Even if direct artistic bujo content is waning in popularity, I'm sure there are a lot of people like me who have incorporated those tools in different ways and are as grateful as me for content creators putting their own hobbies out there to inspire us.

So im excited for what this new era brings :) ironically enough, im actually going back to bullet journaling this year, but in the way i was doing it before bullet journaling became a thing (just like you!), i bought a cheap notebook that i can carry everywhere to write down things to do as they come. Change really is hard, but having to make those changes in public adds a whole 'nother layer of complexity. Enjoy whatever comes next, Elizabeth.
I did the super artsy spread thing for a couple of years. Then I repeated the same useful spread for a couple of years. Then I found a notebook that came close to what I need and saves me the trouble of having to create it. (I carry a Take a Note planner and a blank Tomoe River Paper -- see: lightweight -- notebook in one cover.) I'm on my second year with that system.
I've always kept my personal journal separate from my work stuff. So if I feel like pulling out the supplies, I can create something in my daily personal journal but I don't have to create something artsy before I can get my thoughts down.

This video really hit home! As someone who just hit the 7 year mark for bullet journaling 2 months ago, I'm at the same crossroads. Bullet journaling worked great for keeping me organized when I was in school and it allowed me to grow with my art, but my life is going through a period of change. I've come to the realization that I just don't have the time and energy to keep up with my bullet journal in the way I want to... nor does it totally match my needs for my day to day life anymore.
Your channel was one of the first ones I found when I took up bullet journaling, and watching your videos over the years have inspired me and allowed me to look at this art form through a different lens. While you may not be bullet journaling here going forward, I'm excited to see what you continue to do with your art and reading journal. From one creative to another, thank you for sharing your art and overall creativity with us over the years! 💞
I plan to gradually transition over to a combined use of the Hobonichi Daily and Weeks planners... keeping my fingers crossed that they work the way I need them to, and that I can find the energy to put some of my art into those pages

Honestly the water works came through because you’re right. I found you thanks to your bujo videos but I stopped doing it last year and just focused on my media bujo (movies and books) and that’s what made me notice that what I wanted to do was create but not being tied down to do so and that way I don’t have to be worried about if I forget to write down something or what I should do expecting the pov of anyone else. Thanks to your videos, I’ve come to get a liking to you as a person, not even as a TH-camr but (weirdly) as a friend and someone who is on your side despite never meeting or anything like that. I will watch all of your content just for the sole purpose of your amazing presence and your art. Thank you for all your many many bullet journal videos! You were one of the content creators that got me into bullet journalling a few years ago and then inspired my shift from a minimalist style to a more artistic style, which allowed for more self expression. Bullet journalling has been an anchor for me during some tough periods in my life, including a major depression. It has truly been a life saver. Now that my life is filling up with more professional challenges, social commitments and new hobbies I also find myself at a crossroads. I will stick with a physical bujo but I might dial down on the amount of spreads and decoration so I can keep the things that really work for me.

I have been in a bullet journal for around 7 yrs, I've kept up with it because I use it everyday and need to write things physically to remember them. I have over a decade of notebooks where I kept work notes, reminders and such. So it's a part of me I won't give up. Your videos have been such a value and comfort over these years. I honestly can’t believe it’s been this long. I also started bullet journaling when I moved to Boston in my 20s and needed something to keep me on track in life. Watching this video I realized your spread with line art hands intertwined inspired my wedding journal spread. During 2020 we had to cancel our wedding and so we eloped Jan 2021, to document that month and time I used your spread and inspiration to processs the moment, heal from grief and celebrate love, the process of making this art was so meaningful, and I will always have that as I look back on my journals. I too have ADHD and for the last 8 yrs Bujo had really kept me on track from grad school to buying a house last year. I agree the waves of time and life naturally come and go like tides. I’m also very interested in quilting, crochet/knit, reading and now gardening and allowing the waxing and waning of my hobbies has reduced guilt. Hello! I've been keeping up with your content since 2021-ish, and you were one of a handful of youtubers that I started to follow when I was getting into bujo/stationery/journalling content. I've always admired bujo-ers both for the impressive ability to create a daily planner to keep track and for the gorgeous, aesthetic spreads created.
Despite my deep admiration for bujo, I've always known my adhd would never allow me to effectively use a pure bujo format, and indeed I've been using pre-made planners since 2010--they just work for me, so I'm super excited to hear you using one next year. Watching bujotubers like yourself gave me motivation and inspiration to decorate my planners more beautifully and to start using my planners differently. I've gotten so much out of your channel, even if I never ever will do my own bujo.
I've also loved your non-bujo content a lot--your renovation series lined up with the period of time I was moving house and having to do a lot of the same things, and I really really love your reading vlogs. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely devour booktube content that covers popular booktok reads and takes but I love that your vlogs are themed outside of booktok trends and expose me to a whole slew of read I'd never have dreamed of learning about otherwise.
This very long-winded comment is to say I appreciate all the stuff - bujo and non-bujo - you've put out so far and I can't wait to see where you take this channel next! Much love

I started a Master's degree last year and since then habits I built during COVID (reading/walks/ bujo) went out of the window. I do still keep a work diary and do some personal journalling and reflection, just not as often as I'd like.

I have been feeling some similar feelings lately relating to my relationship with bullet journaling. I realized that a sketchbook and painting has been a better way to scratch that artist itch for me at this point in my life. I agree! Following whatever your creative expression is at the moment and listening to yourself is very important.

Aw I’m so happy for you!!! I can only imagine the amount of freedom and possibility you’re feeling rn! I’ve gone back and forth with bullet journaling for the last 8 years. I’ve had many different iterations of spreads, levels of artistry, and ways that I’ve used my journal. Every other year or so I’ll take a sizable break bc I’ve burnt myself out, but I always seem to come back to it eventually. I’ve just never been able to find a digital system or pre-made planner that has all of the functionality I want it to. I actually recently picked journaling back up again after taking a long break over the summer and I’m really excited about how it’s going! I upgraded from an A5 to a B5 and the extra space has been game changing. I feel like I finally have every single thing I’ve ever wanted in a weekly/monthly spread in one place and I’m absolutely delighted. I’m not a very artistic person, so it’s pretty minimal, but I still think it looks nice. Who knows how long I’ll go before I need another break or how long I’ll use this exact system, but for right now I’m locked in and excited to keep going! But I’m so so excited for you to take a break/quit/try something new. The freedom/relaxation I feel during the months when I’m not journaling is worth the price of my life falling apart for a bit while I’m not planning LOL and I can’t imagine how much more intense the feeling would be if my career had been tied to it for so long. You’re gonna do great stuff and the future is yours! 🧡

I’ve learned a lot from your bujo content, it’s the the reason I found you. Which I will continue to reference but I’m more a minimalist with the bujo.
Your reading content over the last two years has inspired me to broaden my selection of books and that’s why I have stuck around.

I started watching your Bujo videos because your style and voice are such a vibe. I can't draw, but I was inspired to be creative in my Plum Paper Planner. I love your Bookish content for the same reason I loved all your videos. You have a great vibe! Also the cats. ❤

I came here to your videos many years ago looking for bullet journal inspiration. As the years passed, and I gave up bullet journalling, I still stay because I love to see you drawing and painting. When the bookish videos arrived, I was super happy as I am a complete bookworm. After I gave up bullet journalling, I changed to digital planning, so much that I ended up creating my own. I am here after so many years because of you, your thoughts about books, and your artistry. I ended up being one of your Patreon some months ago, and I will continue watching your videos no matter what. Thank you Elizabeth, for so many years of entertainment. ❤❤

i'm happy you know yourself well enough to know what you like and what you don't like though. and not many people have the courage to go and seize what they like and get rid of what they don't as well. wishing the best for you~

I’m not an active bullet journal user, nor am I creative AT ALL. However, I have always enjoyed your content. I wish you all the best as you find what new things will bring you joy. ❤

I discovered your channel after becoming interested in bullet journalling earlier this year, and though I love your planning content I'm so glad you're making a change that feels right for you. I'm so glad to hear your reading journal will continue though, as it's my favourite of your journalling content! But I'm also excited to see what else you're working on in the new year. It's so wonderful to see people getting excited about creativity and creation, whatever form it takes, and your thoughtful commentary on so many things always inspires and excites me to try out new things.
What I've learned after a mere 9 months of bullet journalling is that for me, a bujo works brilliantly for work (I have to keep work separate from personal), but for personal stuff a dated planner works better (I am in love with the Saint Belford's Curation, which I used all through 2024 - first time since university I successfully maintained a planner all year). Meanwhile my bujo turned into more of a memory keeper by September. So next year all my personal planning and tracking will be in my Curation, with a Hobonichi as a daily journal and an A&O notebook for memory keeping. I've found journalling has really inspired me to find joy in old hobbies (hello reading and writing journals) after an extremely tough and grief-filled year, so I'm excited to try this new system out in the year ahead.

First thing: thanks for sharing all of the details of your journey with bujo and why you made this decision to quit for now😢
Second thing: you inspired me to start my own bujo and now I am so into it, it made my experience more interesting for me and I still am hopeful that one day your regular bujo videos will come back❤
And lastly: THANK GOD reading journal stays🥰🥰🥰 I've been also so inspired by your videos and your experience that it made me do a very similar thing but about movies which is amazing)
Looking forward to what this new era on the channel brings and just know that we'll support you🎉❤

I’m very excited to see what newness you’ll be sharing with us, and also I am glad you’ll continue to do reading journal spreads. I tried bullet journaling for a hot minute, wasn’t for me, but I did really enjoy watching you create your monthly spreads in your bujo. I hope you find joy and comfort in your new adventures too!

Speaking from the void! I completely understand why you're choosing to go the way you are and commend you for making a difficult decision (since your livelihood is so tied to it). Change is good. As a fellow avid reader I've been enjoying all the reading content (especially the slower, hours long, incredibly thoughtful deep dives!) and I can't wait to see what's next :) Fun fact: as anyone with anything I go through seasons with bullet journaling, but seeing the flip throughs of some of your older spreads in this video has inspired me to go back and try recreating some of those so that's an added bonus!

I love that as an ADHDer you love bullet journaling. I tried it and I was so overwhelmed with the time it took and the perfectionism I struggle with that I ended up never getting into it. It really shows how different everyone with ADHD is. That being said, I found that I love planning in my iPhone notes app because I realize I really hate planning 😂. Maybe one day I will find the perfect one-paper method that I can stick to but for right now I realize that whatever works best for me is what works. Hope this makes sense!
Anyway best of luck with your journey and whatever new it brings
