Christine, I loved hearing your story as a second-generation homeschooler! Your take on keeping homeschooling flexible and joyful really hits home for me. I love how you mix different styles to make it work for your family-it’s such a great reminder that there’s no one ‘right’ way to do this. So excited to be collaborating with you on this!
I loved your input Christine! I’m very much eclectic also. My two kiddos are only 16 months apart and I am able to do a lot with both of them together. However, my oldest is math minded and very independent in math while my youngest is not. So, I’m thankful that homeschooling allows me to tailor to their needs in what is necessary. And to their interests as well. I like structure and routine also. And I’m very much like you in that we are always doing something. I don’t allow them to just do nothing. So now I don’t feel so bad about it anymore, knowing there’s more mommas that think alike😆. By the way…. I laughed so hard when you said your kiddos ask constantly “are we doing school today?” because same here!! And this is our fourth year!!😆
Thank you for sharing your approach! We are also eclectic: our science and literature is Charlotte Mason, our History is Classical, and our Math and English is traditional. We also aren't a sporty family, and I'm so glad because when I hear people running out to sports events all week, it sounds pretty miserable lol we've done swimming because its a vital life skill. Now we do mostly church choir and independent piano lessons, both which my kids love. Agree that faith should be taught as a whole lifestyle, not just a curriculum to "check off." ❤ You are doing great!
I'm so eclectic I drive myself nuts because I want to try everything 🤪 However, I'd say that my preferences lean towards traditional and Charlotte Mason and less towards classical.
We are also eclectic! I relate to you so much and love all of your content you share!! Off topic, but I LOVE your lipstick color! Would you share what you use? I have a similar complexion and it’s so hard to find a good color! 😂😍
I do not feel like I am eclectic, but I guess I am as I do pull from other resources based on need, but I have a definite base curriculum we use every year! Today was our last day of 2nd grade!! I was only homeschooled for one year as a child. but I have been primarily homeschooling my children.my oldest whom we graduated in 2021 did a few years in public school because I was flip flopping back and forth not knowing or having confidence in myself to keep him home. My youngest now has not ever seen a traditional classroom in public school. But my almost 8yr old is special needs and we keep him in a sped class once a week, so we have access to therapies that the district is able to provide as needed for him. It is really very inconvenient, but we make it work.
Do you do grading in your homeschool? Do you do homeschool evaluation? If you do, how to? I'm from Indonesia. Sorry for my broken English. I hope you understand what I mean 😊🙏
Salamat malam (malam untuk saya)! Your English is great! I don't really worry about grading myself. But I do correct all the work my kids do, and then we work through how to do it right. If I notice they still don't know how to do it we just keep practicing the skill over and over. Semoga itu bisa bantu!
I watched that “debate” and it reaffirmed my conviction in homeschooling 💪🏼

We pick whatever works best for both of our kids for each subject.

I don't have the link, but I'm sure it'll come up on TH-cam if you search for Heidi St John & Katie Faust. :)
@ThisHomeschoolHouse ok, thank you!
How do you homeschool high school?
