    I just accidentally discovered Family Wheels through this video. I'm from the USA, and I am impressed with the quality and attention to detail. Great production values, as well. Thank you for including metric measures as well as old English system equivalents.
    I tend to agree with our host: $75,000 (Canadian, I presume) is a bit ridiculous for a "dressed up" pickup truck (or luxury SUV). I've had exposure to many vehicles in both family and business life, including trimmed-up minivans, pickups galore (including a 3/4-ton crew cab 4x4 with utility boxes), passenger sedans/hatchbacks and even a small SUV. Setting aside that the 2016 F-150 Limited is a pickup truck for a minute, comparing it to my parents' new 2016 Subaru Forester (which they got a deal on, ahead of the pending 2017 models) I'd have to say that the F-150 Limited is not worth the extra $$$ over lesser-trim Ford half-ton trucks. The Forester has a backup cam, maybe not as good as the F-150's, but still far better than I ever dreamed. It also has air conditioning, a killer heater, premium cloth seating, fold-down rear seats, a partial roof rack, smooth CVT, a normal (non LED) instrument cluster, a USB port, exceptional ride comfort, and a 2.5-liter "Boxer" Four that purrs down the road almost like a V8. Of course, the Forester doesn't cost as much as an F-150 of any trim level, but a family on a budget might find this inexpensive all-wheel-drive crossover remarkably comfortable for considerably less money... if they don't need a pickup truck's load-hauling and trailer-towing capabilities.
    I really appreciated our host's criticisms of the pop-out side-steps. If I were spec'ing out a build-to-order pickup truck for a family, business or family business, I would prefer not to indulge in fragile-looking gimmicks like that. Looks like something that would go bad immediately after the truck's warranty expires. I am definitely not a fan of the leather seating. It's not just the sense of waste for the sake of conspicuous consumption. (How many cows give their all for the F-150 pickup truck fleet every year?) I agree with our host that the porous nature of the Ford seat design will inevitably attract dirt and be unusually difficult to clean. Imagine spending as much money on a pickup truck as people spent on a house, just 30+ years ago, and spilling something or getting dirty from a job-site and ruining those gaudy seats! Why do folks need leather in a pickup, anyway? Are people really that vain?
    There were some great interior shots of the vehicle in this video. Kudos to Family Wheels for showing us many details close-up, sometimes seemingly in macro mode. But one nagging question remains: a cab with all those storage nooks and crannies must trap dirt. How hard would they be to keep clean? Perhaps if the objective is to take the concept of a modern half-ton truck and marry it to the old notion of a full-size, rear-wheel-drive luxury and/or family sedan/wagon of the 1960s and '70s. If so, does Ford make this iteration of the F-150 into a "living room on wheels"? Also: having had a pickup with a moonroof 25 years ago, I'm of the opinion they are a waste of money and can create problems.
    The only other nagging question on my mind is Ford's shift in emphasis to turbocharged engines. It can be argued that turbocharging will inevitably become standard on most if not all passenger cars, trucks and vans in the near future as escalating fuel economy regs tighten and national security concerns about fossil fuel supplies and global climate continue to grow. But back in the 1970s and '80s, turbocharged engines were seen as having durability/longevity problems. Have these auto manufacturers turned the corner, making turbo-motors durable? Used to be that even the best turbo cars required an overhaul after about 60,000 miles.
    Thanks for posting this review.
    P.S.-- If I were spec'ing out a built-to-order half-ton Ford today, for personal and/or business use, it would likely be a cab-and-a-half or crew cab, cloth seating, backup cam, maybe the trailer-towing gimmick, 2.7-liter (164 cid) turbo V6 (or the larger 3.5 turbo) a/c, 4x4, bed liner and towing mirrors. That's just me.

    I purchased the 2018 Limited and I absolutely love it. I do get your point about the extra bells and whistles not worth it but I still enjoy the look of the Limited it has a commanding presence again my opinion. I have not experienced any of that automatic breaking issues with the 2018 on my road trips however I did have an episode where I was in a sweeping corner and I don't know but the truck just kept accelerating and I had to quickly intervene. It got my heart racing a bit. Oh 1 more thing the power and torque on my 3.5L EcoBoost is phenomenal.

    The price of trucks these days are absolutely ludicrous. What ever happened to a well equipped crew cab truck in the low 30's? That was just 10 years ago. Insane! Nevertheless, great review!

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      And once you get into heavy duty trucks that are well equipped, the sky's the limit. Thanks for watching.

    • @grahamcouture6786
      @grahamcouture6786 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mr Bobby Brown you still can get a well equipped crew cab truck in the 30's. It's just that these days, there are way more options, and higher trims such as this Limited have almost all the options standard. You don't have to get the options if you don't want to pay for them. Also, keep in mind that this is a Canadian channel with prices in Canadian dollars.

      Get the basic stripper model and you can walk out of Chevy or Ford with a ~$35k truck all in. However don't expect ANY refinement, soft touch points or possibly even Air conditioning. But hey, trucks built in the 80s likely didn't have any of these features right?

    Great review! I just bought a 2016 Lariat Special edition. A little less pricey then the Limited, and I think looks better. If you want more of a sporty look. Black and red decals badges, decals, and interior. The grill even has red trim in it! Sport package gauges and stamped seats. Check it out before you buy. It turns a lot of heads.

    I saw one of these F-150 limited in Toronto today. Had a peek inside and while I never got to feel any surfaces or play around, I'm impressed at how well equipped a pickup can be these days. The price is steep (especially for a Ford pickup) but I can see this for some as an alternative to a Land Rover or BMW X5. Yes the attention to detail won't touch a Lexus or Audi, but unlike those SUV the F-150 does have good capability and towing capacity.
    From the looks of the review, Ford only needs to address some minor shortcomings & programming for adaptive cruise, but it seems like a genuine family alternative to another German SUV which is getting way too common for my tastes. Bonus points if said family will actually load up the bed to the brim to a family cottage off the paved road.

      Same reason liberals would buy a Prius and then drive it like a M3? Yeah.
      Pick up trucks are as practical as practical can get: Haul a car, an engine, a gearbox, a sofa, a dishwasher, dirt, sand and or mulch, and then go out on a date the same night? priceless.

    The only trim I would ever go with for F-150 is King Ranch. I have loved the King Ranch for a while now.

    • @FamilyWheels

    • @OneworldOnelove36
      @OneworldOnelove36 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably the interior. Last generation, even in the current, it was so unique compared to the other trims. It kinda stood out.

    • @grahamcouture6786
      @grahamcouture6786 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      WolfBlitzer that's also my favourite truck! Such a nice interior, and it's a bit more capable than the Limited due to it's available 6.5' box.

    • @grahamcouture6786
      @grahamcouture6786 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Family Wheels for me, it's mostly the interior, the option for a V8, and a longer box, also, I don't have to get lots of the features I don't want, such as power running boards, tailgate step, or sunroof.

  • @bladeh12
    @bladeh12 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Whats the difference between the Limited and Platinum models? I picked up a 2016 XLT with Special Edition package and pretty much has everything I need, I did look at the Lariat but at 13k extra over the XLT.... no!

    • @tapman1277
      @tapman1277 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's not many differences between Platinum and Limited models. The Limited comes standard with some of the few optional features available on the Platinum, such as Active Park Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and the Technology package which has the 360 degree camera. The King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited models are pretty much interchangeable depending on your own personal preferences, such as the interior and exterior stylings - different interior colours, grilles, rims, badging, etc.

    • @grahamcouture6786
      @grahamcouture6786 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Limited comes with its own interior, grill, wheels, and the door handles have a matte chrome finish. It also has almost every feature standard (I went on the build and price section of Ford's website, there are literally 11 options including colours). It only comes with a crew cab, 5.5' box, and 3.5L EcoBoost engine. It's also likely a bit cheaper to get a Limited than a Platinum optioned out the same way, or maybe a very similar price, just with the Limited appearance.

  • @G7130
    @G7130 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I liked the Limited, but I drove off with a '16 Plat as 65K was the most I wanted to pay considering the only difference is leather and badge. All other amenities are same. To your cruise control issue, have not experienced any issues like that.

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for writing. Yep, it's a big jump for largely the same truck. Glad your adaptive cruise control hasn't presented the same issues. It was very disconcerting.

    • @Darkangel-sw9lm
      @Darkangel-sw9lm 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. And although I agree with him about the Lariat, the leather in the limited is upgraded. The lariat has to be upgraded to the 502A package and doesn’t have things like the 22 inch rims, technology package, power running boards, moon roof. Etc. And that “over engineered” step which also isn’t included in the lariat is the best in the segment. First he complains about things being cheaply done but then wants a crappy Bumper step. Go for a ride in the Denali and you’ll really see cheap. Do your homework.

  • @samt8959
    @samt8959 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Paul, just wanted to point out that in 2016 the Lariat Super Crew actually comes with 2 options for bed size. 5'6" and 6'6". You mention in the video that there is only one option only. Not the case. i just bought a 2016 F150 Lariat and know I had the option for both. They are great trucks and I can see now why Ford leads the market. Coming off a 2010 GM and having done my homework with the big three, Ford is ahead in so many ways.

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's great to hear, Sam. Perhaps it's the Limited trim that just comes with the 5.5 ft option. What did you go with in the end? Any beefs with the truck so far?

    • @samt8959
      @samt8959 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I stand corrected, It appears the Limited ( the only trim) that is not offered with 6 1/2' box. I ended up with Lariat with 502A +tech pkg++Great truck, I only have two beefs with my truck. One is with Navigation, SYNC 3 is great, but navigation details of maps and the fact that they are outdated.
      I was comparing side by side with GM Sierra and GM had updated maps. Ford mapping is outdated and will not have new mapping for 18 months. My other and second beef is the 502A package and its hefty up-charge from 501A is for LED lights, head lights etc. Why would Ford have all LED lights (which are just stunning and excellent by the way) but leave out Licence plate lamps and fog lamps as yellow halogen bulbs. Seems like someone missed the mark. Overall I am very happy with my decision for an F150. Great Review of the truck. I agree totally on how quickly the price climbs up.

    I have 2015 ecoboost platinum sitting in my driveway. It's the only way these trucks can't break down. Why do I say that? Just got soaked for $5500 in a single repair bill. My piece of garbage has only been seen on time on schedule at the same dealership. Mine is fully loaded: Leather heated seats, sprayed bed liner, roll and lock bed cover, cameras all around. Ironically it also has an extended gas tank. Sad cause these piles only get 14 miles to the gallon. That highly bragged about aluminum body won't protect you or your family from a drunk angry squirrel. Didn't know I had a lemon on my hands until the dealership couldn't explain how routine maintenance all of sudden costs $5500. I drive my wife's old station wagon. Save your save a ton of cash and buy a GMC, Dodge, Chevy or ride the bus.

    At the price u pay u should be able to choose the engine u want.😡😡
    After all u are the one buying it!!!!😁
    Most people choose the 5.0l v8 engine over the 3.5 EcoBoost. 10 to 1.😁
