The dude must have some really bad luck, because that is quite rare to find a dragon by himself and live to tell about it.🤨🐱
But he lived. So... his good luck must exceed his bad one. Beacuse sometimes a man can stumble across a sleeping dragon, but almost no one lives to tell the tale about it.

All he had to say was I'm a had an encounter with a dragon recently and got burnt up. But thankfully due to my tiefling heritage I managed to survive the fire and get away.

Well, I'd like to see anyone exercise proper bowel and bladder control while being chased by what is essentially a flying, fire-breathing, angry T-Rex. In that situation, your body essentially says "JETTISON ALL WEIGHT TO MAXIMIZE SPEED!!!"
Yeah, Soiling yourself at times like that is embarrassing, but you are not the first, or the last.
He could have said; He lost his clothes to some fairies or goblins stole his stuff while he was bathing. Its funny and keeps the terror of the dragon away. Or he can just tell her that; He got into a bad encounter with a dragon and well being a tiefling he was fine but his clothes weren't.
Either way it should give the lady a good chuckle and if he is lucky. He might get a nat 20 on his persuasion and persuade her to take him to the back room.

This reminds me of a session i played where one of my players was a wizard who was very keen on collecting spell materials. for some of his spells he needed cloth, and he decided that the best way to do that was by depantsing random people.
so just imagine being in a crowd when suddenly your pants are pulled of, you trip and right when you come to your senses you see a lanky blue man quickly escape into the sewers

No jokes xd, its almost was a pick of humor in our roleplaying campaings, when one of the players made his pants one of his greatest characters feature.
Especially their often falling due accidents! 😂
He could have very well had a Commissar Cain moment: ran away from the dragon screaming, got caught in its fire breath, survived thanks to being a tiefling (minus pants), the dragon accidentally brought the cave down on itself and died.
I have only played DnD four times and the highlights are the session zero during a lot because I was doing random things and the fourth one taking forever because I was convinced that a fae creature was behind the disappearance of some people instead of a goddamn mimic (option that I immediatly eliminated previously).
There's no shame from running away from a deadly encounter, especially if you are alone.
He's the type of guy who wears red shirts to show off, but puts on brown pants when things get real.

Reminds me of the joke about a pirate captain who wears a red shirt in a fight so the men don't notice him bleeding from wounds and lose heart during the fight. He then sees a Man of War on the horizon and tells the cabin boy to fetch his brown pants.
