I've only read 'Far From the Madding Crowd' which I enjoyed though 'The Mayor of Casterbridge' - the other Hardy novel I've read, is the one I liked best.
I recently read "new grub street" by Gissing & I loved it so much! It was first by this author & I really want to read "The Odd Women" soon! At your recommendation I just recently finished "The Uninhabited House" & although I thought it a bit of a predictable end, I got great enjoyment from the reading of it. Thanks. I am currently reading "The Doctor's Wife' & I am enjoying it much & agree with you that it is so much better than "Madame Bovary"! You've intrigued me with your love for Margaret Oliphant & I have plans to read and learn more of her soon! I have read a couple Thomas Hardy novels & that's enough of him! 😉
I need to get to The Odd Woman too! I agree The Uninhabited House was a little predictable, but I'm actually okay with that in Victorian fiction whereas I wouldn't be in a modern book. Lol on enough of Thomas Hardy. He's definitely a lot haha.
Reading the Carlingford Chronicles out of order just means you’ll have to reread them someday 😉. I think I read most of them this year too and had such a good time with them. Also discovered Mary Elizabeth Braddon this year and having fun with her books too! I’m at 42 on your list and can’t remember if that’s better than last year, I’m assuming it must be!
I watched Far From the Madding Crowd on a flight and I immediately picked up the book when I landed. Also loved it! It's pretty happy! 😅 The Doctor's Wife sounds great haha.
I have read only 18 of the books on the list 🫤 But I wasn't expecting to have read as much as you anyways, so that's fine 😂. I'll try to find The Uninhabited house online, it sounds very interesting and you speaking so highly about it made me curious for reading it too.
"It's Thomas Hardy; it's never happy" 😂 Thoroughly enjoyed this.
I love hearing what you like and what you don’t like. 💕

Glad you're enjoying Braddon. Which ones have you read so far?

I mean, I guess if you're comparing it to Tess or Jude haha. I need to see the movie. I've heard it's great.
