LOVE the Home Improvement shirt you got there, such a fun 90's callout! No worries about Sea of Stars not connecting with you, that's TOTALLY okay. While I enjoyed it, you brought up some really good points about the overall gameplay. I absolutely commend you for finishing it out! So glad you played through Xenoblade 3 and Dragon Quest 6, too! Man, I'll have to keep you in mind for a Dragon Quest-type podcast discussion if you'd ever be up for it!
High quality games. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Sea of Stars are games I love to play on New Game + when I don´t know what to do with myself and life. Once you beat the game once you can just enjoy the environment and zone out a bit.
Major props for that Binford Tools shirt!! I loved Home Improvement growing up. I've only beaten the first three Dragon Quest games, but I'd love to continue the series. Ugh, Xenoblade I still need to get into my collection. Sea of Stars! Nice, I snagged it not too long ago, bummer though that the story was kinda boring. I'm with you though, I love to play games for the stories and can deal with average gameplay as long as I'm rewarded for the plot. Great video, pal!
I beat XC3 and Sea of Stars last year. XC3 is right up there with XC2 as my favorite in the Xenoblade trilogy. I liked Sea of Stars quite a lot as well. Something about it just clicked with me, I guess. This is what makes gaming the world's greatest hobby. We can experience things differently, express our opinions, and learn from one another!
Awesome video Paige! Love the honesty about Sea of Stars. Looking forward to giving it a go myself. Glad you liked Xenoblade 3. I also thought it was chaotic on screen. 😂
@@femtrooper Oh I’ll still get the remakes 🤓 I’m just a new fan of the series and being the collector I am, that would be so cool to have em all. I love the 3DS, even tho you can download homebrew, nothing beats having the actual game, putting in the cartridge and firing it up 😎 I gotta get em one at a time tho, they’re definitely pricey 😅
Dragon Quest is like the comfort food / safety blanket of the rpg world. It never seems to change much and somehow that’s also why we go back to it again and again when we want that cozy comfy fix.
I don't know if you've played CrossCode, and honestly I have no idea whether you'd like it, but it absolutely nails that "this is what I remember an idealised SNES game looking like" thing. As to what I've been playing recently, I seem to be on a PS1 nostalgia kick because I recently replayed Front Mission 3 (a type of game I don't usually like but I love this one) and now I'm replaying Soul Reaver.
@@femtrooper They have a new one coming at some point, Alabaster Dawn. It looks to be more fantasy than CrossCode, plus it sounds like they might tone down the puzzle dungeons a bit. Those could get pretty intense in CrossCode.
My good friend from Europe says you should play Octopath Traveler II. You should give it a shot. The problem with Sea of Stars is that at some point they gave up on the "Sea of Stars" and only showed 2 worlds and rush the ending with a character that appears for 2 seconds and allows you to fight the final boss, lol.
Just discovered your channel going through your videos. Great content. Really looking forward to playing Sea of Stars. I dig your contrarian reviews - everyone has been falling over themselves praising this game, nice to see a different perspective. Your take on Breath of the Wild another example. Keep it coming.
sea of stars battle system was fun and the pace of traveling through beautiful environments is on point, having played the messenger platformer game from the same devs a couple years before also gives a good nostalgia feeling. the plot is weak though, you're right.
I was also really excited about Sea of Stars, but hearing from so many people that they found it "...eh, okay" kinda took the wind out of my sails. I'm still gonna play it and decide for myself, but I was REALLY hoping this one would be an unequivocal home run. But anyhow, nice job tackling some massive games!
This may be a good thing bc your expectations are super low 😂 (this has happened to me many times in the past. I try and curb my hype and consumption for upcoming games now).
There is still a great deal of love for Sea of Stars. It was my second favorite game last year behind Trails Into Reverie. Imo Its better then most Snes RPGs, I personally only prefer FF6, Chrono Trigger and Terranigma over it.
@@MrRPGcrazy so I’ve never played FF6 before. Similar to you I’m not big into snes RPGs (there’s a few but snes RPGs are not exactly my preference) You think it still holds up to modern day standards? I’m big on story so if it has great characters and compelling plot I can forgive a lot
@@basedmek I love decent amount of 16 bit RPGs but no snes game hold ups to modern standards imo. I have no idea if like the game or not. All you can do is to give it a try.
Great Video! While I really like Sea of Stars I understand the criticism and I think there was some potential wasted on this beautiful game. Nice to hear you enjoyed XBC3 so much - it's an absolutely wonderful game. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on Astro Bot 😏
Love the Binford shirt! I'm a big rpg guy myself and I could not for the life of me get into the DQ games no matter how much time I try to put into them. Grinding is a main reason I don't care. I hope in the new one they'll axe that aspect of the series.
Hey Paige, thanks for the list, need to play those 3 also! lately I am on my third run on Fire Emblem 3 houses, I am in the Black eagle one, finally done with part one, going to the more interesting part two :)
Sorry to hear that about DQ and the grinding. I can’t stand doing it to beat a game, but I don’t mind some in the post-game if I’m achievement hunting. The game that you saw me review recently, Monster Sanctuary, had what I’m describing.
Really appreciate your perspective on these. Scott just recently played Sea of Stars and he got instantly hooked but like any game it's not going to be for everyone. That's totally okay.
@@femtrooper I think our friend Sam watches your videos too and she had the exact same experience with Sea of Stars that you had. Scott definitely found the music only so so and not that memorable.
Nice list! Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was so good. It also took me a really long time to finish. I just finished Trails Through Daybreak so I'm taking a short JRPG break by playing Gunbrella before I dive into Trails From Zero. Edit: Sea of Stars had me hooked. I'm totally going to revisit this game when the DLC comes out early next year.
Nice game selection! You're dang close to beating all those DQ games, that's sick. Really glad you played Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Absolutely love that game. I have to agree with you on some stuff being very busy like the UI but it ended up being my fav one. Idk I just loved the story/characters, exploring that whole map, that class system was nuts. Can totally see why someone would still dig the first one the most though. I keep hearing mixed stuff about Sea Of Stars, feel like you summed it up well haha! 👍
I completely agree with you about Sea of Stars. It's a mid game, with cool pixel art and music. I don't know if we were victims of a good marketing campaign or we're just being too hard with the game but definitely this game isn't a modern Chrono Trigger And yes, Garl is really annoying.
I really tried with this game, but it just wasn't for me. Maybe if they would have had a standard turn based mode option, didn't really like the combat mechanics.
Did you end up beating it? I got towards the end to head to the final boss and didn’t even go (dropped it). Just really didn’t care anymore. It’s a shame bc the hype around it was insane for JRPG lovers
DQ6 and Xenoblade Chronicles 6, I haven't played. I loved Sea of Stars, the story doesn't have a lot of meat on its bones, but I loved the aesthetics and gameplay. But, teah I get you on the story, but it didn't outstay its welcome for me.
Your sea of stars take is on point. I was IN LOVE and then the honeymoon phase wore off and I ended up dropping it like right towards the end. Just stopped caring. Currently 100 hours into FF7 Rebirth and loving it
I’ve just started Wayfinder on PS5, it’s in early access with 1.0 next month. ARPG looter, melee combat, no mtx. I’m having a lot of fun, the explore/loot loop is my catnip.
I haven’t played a Dragon Quest game yet. In your opinion what would be a great one to play first. Some of my favourite RPG’s are Chrono Trigger, Grandia and Lunar to give some examples of what I enjoy. I enjoyed Sea of Stars but I agree with you on the music, some tracks were just OK. Maybe your expectations were too high starting Sea of Stars I’m afraid something similar is happening to me. Just started Earthbound, only a couple hours in so I’m hoping it gets better. Great video cheers!
I totally agree about sea of stars! I think the thing that bugged me about it the most was being unable to flee battles, it really messed me up a few times. I had to put it down. Im getting pumped for the DQ3 remake!
Sea of Stars is still on my backlog of games to beat that I started, definitely love it,but I did finish Chained Echoes which I thought was a very well done game. I been playing quite alot lately but the games that has had my attention the most lately is Visions of Mana,Sand Land and Shadow of the Ninja Reborn
I am now going for the true ending on Sea of Stars, and i honestly cant remember anyones name beside Garl, i have never had that happen to me with a game before. I think a masive missed opportunity is more characteur building through the camping with Teaks. I was near endgame when i accidently camped on the boat and their is actualy a hub on the boat.... with people to interact with. Teaks disapearing and reapearing at random times, while she is ""allways"" with your party, but just not there in cutscenes. I felt if it had those inbetween cutscenes like final fantasy 9 where they will all reflect on what has happend to them at like a campfire or on the boat (airship in ff9) it would have helped A LOT, the midway point going to the sea of stars and that shift with the gameplay kept me going but it wasnt great. Ow and having to collect all the rainbow conches to get the true ending.... i dont want to do it, id rather play something else but at this point i think il just grab a guide and get all of them, because i kinda want to see the true ending.
@@femtrooper I am honestly debating about looking it up aswell, but i did beat everything else you have to and i ""just"" have to collect those rainbow conches, but thats still going to take me a few hours... could play something else! argh!
The more reviews I watch of yours, the more I realise we have almost the same identical opinion on the games, kinda bizarre lol. I agree with everything you said about Sea Of Stars and Xenoblade 3, Which makes me think you might enjoy Chained Echoes
I just recently got a N3DS XL, although I had a 2DS for a couple of years. Hoping to actually get through a DQ game this time! Mostly playing A Link Between Worlds in full 3D this time. Otherwise, I just started Xenoblade Chronicles 3 on my switch! Excellent game so far and I’m pushing through
I have the feeling with Sea of Stars that most of the casual players who don't play a lot of JRPGs absolutely loved it, and the JRPG veterans expected it to be more. Personally, I liked it. It looks beatiful, I liked the music (especially the boss battle themes), loved the verticality and the puzzles in the level design and didn't mind that the battle system didn't evolve much. But the character writing is lacking. Like you said, only Garl really has a personality. The two protagonists could have been fused into one and nothing would have changed. Maybe they could have created scenarios where the protagonists would have had to split up, to use their power simultaneously from different places in order to overcome a barrier or something. Maybe have them argue over the correct course of action or something, to highlight that they are indeed two different people. I feel you! I've played some very long games this year and my "plan" is all messed up right now. There's no way I'm going to be able to play everything I wanted to play this year, but hopefully I can manage to finish Dragon Quest 11 before Metaphor Refantazio releases. I took a bit of a break from DQ11 for the last two weeks, but now I'm ready to go back in. I couldn't sleep last night so I started it up at 4am. Now I'm dead tired. Luckily I have the day off, so it's no problem.
Oooo! Please finish DQ11! It’s so awesome! And yeah, the two main characters in Sea of Stars could have definitely been fused together and nothing would have changed!
@@femtrooper I'm definitely going to finish DQ11! I got my motivation back and after gaining a few levels the battles got less tedious. So I'm walking around in post-game now and beating bosses left and right as I go.
I think and feel the same with Xenoblade 3. The game is amazing, but the first Xenoblade still knocks it out of the park for me personally. Great video of course, and I'm glad you finally played Xenoblade 3! Now you've gotta get through the Future Redeemed DLC 😎
Bummer that Sea of Stars didn’t hit for you like that, but I’m def glad that you connected with Xenoblade 3. I agree that the story was a little slow with Sea of Stars, but when the twist happened things picked up, and I was feeling the story more. Also, props for the Binford Tools sweatshirt 👌🏾
I've actually not gotten around to any of these games, but Ik one day I will! A few months ago I started a small little channel in the hopes that I'd be getting through my backlog because of it, thankfully that's mostly happened. 😢 But my favorites I've played recently are No More Heroes 1 and 2. Im gonna play the next two at some point, but woohoo-- Limited Run has me in a chokehold lately, and there's so much coming out finally.
Awesome bunch of games! I have been thinking about making a series like this for some time just to shout out the games I don't end up reviewing but think deserve some light.
I’ll agree with you on Sea of Stars, but there seemed to be something new per level, but yeah, it fell a bit flat, it’s like Golf Story. I enjoyed it though and don’t regret it
that's awesome femtrooper! I'm wanting to play the EarthBound series, so I started EarthBound Beginnings! One step encounters make me want to throw my monitor out the window but seriously I'm determined to get through it! ha ha xD
I agree with you on both Sea of Stars and Xenoblade 3. Sea of Star is boring. Characters have no personallity, and Garl is annoying. Serai is somewhat okay, but I dropped the game short after she officialy joined. The combat is also boring because there is pretty much only one correct way of playing, unlike... funny they are both in this video, yeah, Xenoblade 3 which is the perfect opposite. In XBC3 you can make any party you want and it will work if you know what you are doing. I personally went with 3 healers, 2 attackers, and 2 tanks. The fusion mechanic is amazing. The story starts very slow, but damn the scene when they see a baby for the first time ever is one of the best scenes in video games in general. Xenoblade 3- 9.5/10 game for me, and Sea of Stars is at best 4/10 game.
Getting to the last boss in a JRPG and hitting a brick wall can be so demoralizing. I've just beaten Astro Bot and Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. Both were fun, but the latter took me 80 hours so I relate to what you said about being excited to start something new. I think I might play Grandia next since I've heard so many good things about it, including your own review in the past.
I’m taking a break from Xenoblade Chronicles, I hit a wall and have to grind some. I started the Phoenix Wright games, and am on the second one. And Astro Bot!
I just last Wednesday finished Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, which marked the completion of all 9 main line Yakuza/Like a Dragon games (along with a 10th if you include Man Who Erased His Name). Playing Astro Bot now for something light and joyful.
I was looking forward to see what you think of DQ6, glad to see you didn't detest it I also agree w/ the first Xenoblade being my number 1, but 3 is excellent still and has one of my favorite cast of any rpg ever, will you play through Future Redeemed?
I beat Astro Bot including finding all the trophies. I never go for trophies. That is how good the game was. The hype is actually real this time. I was a huge fan of Astro's Playroom. Astro Bot is definitely a game to check out. I am making my way through Returnal now.
Well, the different colonies are technically the towns in XBC 3. I believe there is a way to remove some of the damage numbers on the screen via the options menu. Did you also play the DLC?
I lined up a bunch of shorties for September and into October. Ara Fell, Rise of The sentinels, Ikenfell and redemption reavers. Roughly 20 to 30 hours to beat / majority complete these games while I wait for Ys X
I've been playing Space Marines 2, Astrobot, Cult of the Lamb and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. I picked the Cheech and Chong skins for Modern Warfare 3 and they're so funny plus the guns I've got which was three were really fun to use too. Paige I've got so many in my backlog that'll take me 2 years to beat. Lol great video by the way. I really liked your views on Sea of Stars. I've got it in the backlog so eventually I'll get to it. But it's in the collection. I love your videos Paige. Just woke up and seen it on the queue. I look forward to every Tuesday because of your content. Thanks Paige! P.S. what is Binford Tools on your shirt? Just wondering if it's a company in Canada?
Binford Tools is the fake tool company that Tim Taylor would always promote on Tool Time on Home Improvement! It’s just a very subtle 90s sitcom reference haha
@@femtrooper oh ok yeah I remember that show. It's been ages since I've watched it tho. That totally went over my head. Lol thanks for the reply Femtrooper!
My best friend let me borrow his copy of dragon quest 11, I might hold off on playing it since the hd 2d remake of 3 is coming out real soon. Sea of stars was a great throwback style rpg, I liked it a lot. Paige you’ve got to play Astro Bot it’s probably one of the best games on the ps5, I beat it and it was fun
I actually went back and play some much older title that I never got around to playing and that is Lunar 2 eternal blue complete. I loved the first one on the original Playstation. It's a awesome game if you haven't played either of them but man was it expensive to get the entire box set of the game
Right now I'm replaying Ni No Kuni 2 for the third time. Criminally underrated game, I don't understand the hate it gets at all. It checks all the boxes for me personally.
@femtrooper Well I'd say try not to stress about the "optimal" order to build your kingdom cause the it will all get there eventually. Also look out for the Swift Solutions quest giver in each major city cause you can turn in tokens to him (from doing the side quests) to easily earn more citizens for your kingdom. There are lots of helpful guides out there if you get stuck on trying to find a citizen with a specific skill you need.
I get FOMO when I hear people talking about Xenoblade but then I see footage of the battles, I get over stimulated in half a second and think noooooo I hate that lol. Great list and happy gaming!
Totally agree with you on XB3 gives “grandiose exploration” vibes not actual cosy adventure vibes also it’s more of a emotional twist rather than actual gut wrenching dark moments like in the first one(XB1 actually feels like you lost something rather than it just being a twist) XB1 still the best for me also, over the top with bigger budget isn’t always the best.
Given your attitude to side quests - did you go for the true ending in Sea of Stars? I’m guessing not. Me I have 59 rainbow conches and three side quests left. But then I also loved the music and story!
I like Dragon Quest 6 though I do feel it's the weakest of the 4/5/6 sort-of-trilogy. I do have it for DS though I played it on mobile since I could do it on my lunch break at work. Storywise, I did like seeing how impacting the real and dream world affected each other. My issue was really that it felt "directionless." I frequently had no idea where I was supposed to go next and would just wander around until Something To Do was found. Like you mentioned the job system: I had cleared like 3 dungeons and beat a boss after when I assume I had revived Alltrades Abbey, and then only found the revived Abbey from coming across it randomly (yes I'm aware of that one NPC that says "I hear the Abbey's back but I didn't see anything" and it didn't occur to me to try the Dream World so I guess that's on me) so for a while there I had been playing the game with no job classes at all and that meant there was a gap between my character levels and character jobs. Still liked the game, just not as much as 4 and 5. My backlog clearing was Luigi's Mansion 3 as the last of my "Finally play this" list for theym year. Since they were re-releasing the second game and I never played that either I had decided to jut knock them both out one after the other. LM2 was ok. LM3 was great. My main gaming recently was Splatoon 3, which celebrated its 2-year anniversary this weekend with The Grand Festival. There will be more events later, but they're going to be re-runs. By all accounts, this was the end of the game. And they certainly went out big by doing a 3 day long in-game concert that didn't just celebrate the 2 years for this game, but the decade of the franchise's existence. It's hard to convey how impressive this final event was without having experienced it, but I'm happy I was able to play in it.
I've been playing War Hammer Boltgun awesome old school shooter like Doom, Horizon Forbidden West loving it second playthrough and dead space the best remake to come out in years up there with RE4R
I finished Sea of Stars earlier this year and I agree with you. I found the end of the game just began to drag and I got bored. I did finish it though and am looking forward to the free DLC. It is a gorgeous game but the characters were kind of flat. I just finished this past weekend Xenoblade 1 and loved it so much. I am working on finishing now the extra story content in the Definitive Edition. The game was amazing and every end of chapter left you hanging. Looking forward to trying the rest of the trilogy. I finished Donut county as a quick break between RPGs last night. It was a fun and humours game. I usually do not like puzzle games but it was easy enough to enjoy.
I haven't played many Dragon Quest games, so I'm looking forward to the HD 2D remakes of I, II and III. I hope they go through all the DQ games and remake them. It'd be really nice to be able to play them on current gen consoles and have the quality of life improvements that make playing them faster. I started Sea of Stars and am absolutely loving it! Though I do agree that the story isn't the best. I like the secondary characters the most. I haven't finished it yet, but hope to before the end of the year. I'm looking forward to the DLC. Hope it adds some cool things. I have a really hard time finishing games. I usually get bored and distracted by shiny new games. lol. Like I just started Stray Gods the Roleplaying Musical and am really enjoying it. Also started Fights in Tight Spaces, but that's like Slay The Spire, which I play in small bursts to complete a level or two to unwind.
@@femtrooper I try that, and have managed to finish a few games in the last few years. It just doesn't help that I tend to prefer long JRPGs. But getting into cozy games, I've finished a few that were only 6-10 hours long. So it helps to mix up the kind of games I'm playing.
Unfortunately, Sea of Stars fatal flaw was having a single member of the team do all the writing and dialogue. For me, a great story is awesome, but it's not essential; compelling/fun gameplay, great music, and a beautiful art style can allow me to ignore a story and just have a good time, which I did with Sea of Stars. I also loved the Messenger, so the story was a LITTLE better for me due to the connections and twists related to that. I've been playing through the new Persona 3 Reload DLC, Episode Aegis. Really enjoying getting back into P3R. Final Fantasy XVI comes to PC today at last, so that's next!
Great list, Xenoblade 3 is such a great game and as more people are saying Sea Of Stars is kind of 'meh' my enthusiasm in picking it up is dwindling. Recently I've only finished 2 games so far: The Tsukihime Remake and ONE, the later having a bit of history as a few of the staff from this ended up forming Key. Which is the studio that did Clannad.
@@femtrooper They are. Tsukihime was never officially translated into English before this Remake and I'm pretty sure the same goes for ONE. Both games are 20 years old or their abouts, so this means a lot for fans. I'm a newcomer to both and I really enjoyed them.
I too have completed dragon quest 6 and sea of stars this year, as for xenoblade I have only completed the first game last year and plan to start the second one later this year, I’m not that organised that I have a list that I follow, I just play what feels right at the time, currently playing Ace Attorney JfA and I’m really enjoying it, it’s got some really good humour in it 😊
I’m really looking forward to it, I really did enjoy the first one especially once I realised I could play as Reyn, I wasn’t enjoying playing as shulk but Reyn is awesome 😎
I loved Xenoblade 3 but I'm the same, number one is still the best for me. I am currently playing through Visions of Mana! This game looks beautiful and the story is pretty good. Maybe one you check out over time perhaps ☺️☺️
I've been on a bit of an emulation binge whilst waiting for the 'Echoes of Wisdom' release: I did a 100% and no death playthrough of 'Ocarina of Time'... again; a first ever playthrough of 'Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver' (Dreamcast); I'm currently playing 'Phantasy Star Online' (GameCube) just because. I am also considering playing 'Ys I & II Chronicles' (PSP), as I recently secured a copy of 'Ys VIII - Adventurer's Edition' on eBay for a reasonable price and I want to play the series from the start. 👌
As far games "recently" beaten goes... Trails of Cold Steel IV. That was a long one, and I think somethings should have been made shorter. The second one is The House in Fata Morgana (VN... not a game to some I guess). I may move Sea of Stars up since it is shorter, and I will probably welcome that after I beat FF7 remake.
Totally agree about “Sea of Stars” - beautiful presentation, but not enough heart and soul in the script. Also agree about “XB3” - I liked it more than 2, but 1 is still king. And I hope Monolithsoft ditches the chaotic, cluttered combat aesthetic!
I am a moderate Dragon Quest fan and DQ6 is pretty medicore in my book. Xenoblade 3 might be my favorite game on the Switch, almost 100% the game. Sea of Stars I really love aswell, thought it was super charming. Love it almost as much as Chrono Trigger. But we are all different. As long time Fire Emblem fan, I dont like Engage not one bit lol.
Absolutely adore Sea of Stars!
That’s awesome! I’m glad you had a great experience with it!

It’s incredible!
Omg, you nailed it on the ending! Just kind of a let down!!! And yes, don’t worry, I can’t wait to give Octo 2 a chance!

sea of stars battle system was fun and the pace of traveling through beautiful environments is on point, having played the messenger platformer game from the same devs a couple years before also gives a good nostalgia feeling. the plot is weak though, you're right.
Yeah, it has a lot going for it just felt kinda mundane at times.
Thanks! And yeah, it looks beyond good…but then it’s just kinda eh. I wouldn’t say it’s bad but it’s just not a winner by any means.
I just discovered your channel and I love how you express your thoughts and feelings about games.
Thank you!!!
Great Video!
While I really like Sea of Stars I understand the criticism and I think there was some potential wasted on this beautiful game. Nice to hear you enjoyed XBC3 so much - it's an absolutely wonderful game. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on Astro Bot 😏
Yes! I can’t wait to share! So far so good!
I've been on a huge Final Fantasy kick this summer. Played the whole Pixel Remaster Collection and X HD.
Woah!!! That’s amazing!!! Congrats!
Love the Binford shirt! I'm a big rpg guy myself and I could not for the life of me get into the DQ games no matter how much time I try to put into them. Grinding is a main reason I don't care. I hope in the new one they'll axe that aspect of the series.
DQ 1 is pretty much the same as DQ11 haha they never change so my guess is 12 will be similar. You never know tho!
Hey Paige, thanks for the list, need to play those 3 also! lately I am on my third run on Fire Emblem 3 houses, I am in the Black eagle one, finally done with part one, going to the more interesting part two :)
Wow! I didn’t really love that FE, but still enjoyed it. I think it’s the school setting thing haha
@@femtrooper yeah not a fan of the school part either, but the story so interesting and I love the conversation all characters have with each other!!
@@Spare_Ombres Ahhh, true! It’s so highly regarded!
Sorry to hear that about DQ and the grinding. I can’t stand doing it to beat a game, but I don’t mind some in the post-game if I’m achievement hunting. The game that you saw me review recently, Monster Sanctuary, had what I’m describing.
I’ll do it for DQ!
Love the Home Improvement sweater 😊
Thanks!!! I love that the odd person recognizes it!!! :)
Nice shirt! I just rewatched the whole series at the beginning of the summer 🤘
Aw thanks!!! 🙏
Really appreciate your perspective on these. Scott just recently played Sea of Stars and he got instantly hooked but like any game it's not going to be for everyone. That's totally okay.
Yeah, just a so so experience for me!
@@femtrooper I think our friend Sam watches your videos too and she had the exact same experience with Sea of Stars that you had. Scott definitely found the music only so so and not that memorable.
Hey miss do you play on pc too? and also what's your opinion on the ps5 Pro announcement?
Don’t play on PC, no interest in the PS5 Pro since my PS5 and my PS Portal are working great!
That’s awesome to hear!!!
Thank you!!! :)
I completely agree with you about Sea of Stars.
It's a mid game, with cool pixel art and music.
I don't know if we were victims of a good marketing campaign or we're just being too hard with the game but definitely this game isn't a modern Chrono Trigger
And yes, Garl is really annoying.
I really tried with this game, but it just wasn't for me. Maybe if they would have had a standard turn based mode option, didn't really like the combat mechanics.
100% mid!
Did you end up beating it? I got towards the end to head to the final boss and didn’t even go (dropped it). Just really didn’t care anymore. It’s a shame bc the hype around it was insane for JRPG lovers
Although I don’t regret playing it like I have other games. As you said, it’s mid.
DQ6 and Xenoblade Chronicles 6, I haven't played. I loved Sea of Stars, the story doesn't have a lot of meat on its bones, but I loved the aesthetics and gameplay. But, teah I get you on the story, but it didn't outstay its welcome for me.
That’s good!!! It’s so pretty!
Sea of Stars was one of my favorite this year. And I just finished Astro bot, what an experience 😃😃😃
I just started playing Astro Bot!!! It’s awesome!
Your sea of stars take is on point. I was IN LOVE and then the honeymoon phase wore off and I ended up dropping it like right towards the end. Just stopped caring.
Currently 100 hours into FF7 Rebirth and loving it
YES! Rebirth is amazing!!!
I’ve just started Wayfinder on PS5, it’s in early access with 1.0 next month. ARPG looter, melee combat, no mtx. I’m having a lot of fun, the explore/loot loop is my catnip.
That’s fantastic!!!
Sea of Stars, definitley a long game. But I loved every minute of it. You gonna pick up Echoes of Wisdom when it comes out? I can't wait!
Sure am!!! Can’t wait!
Yeah DQ6 isn’t among the best the series has to offer, but is still a great game. The final boss fight in the DS remake was a nightmare.
Glad you agree haha - it was BRUTAL!!!
Thank you! Dragon Quest XI or VIII are great starting points! If you want a more old school vibe though, Dragon Quest V is phenomenal!
I totally agree about sea of stars! I think the thing that bugged me about it the most was being unable to flee battles, it really messed me up a few times. I had to put it down. Im getting pumped for the DQ3 remake!
Good point! That was kind of annoying!
Everyone has been telling me that Chained Echoes is WAY better so I’ll have to get it soon!
I’m going to just look up the true ending because I did not have the patience to collect everything. It wasn’t doing it for me haha
Oh good!!!
I just recently got a N3DS XL, although I had a 2DS for a couple of years. Hoping to actually get through a DQ game this time! Mostly playing A Link Between Worlds in full 3D this time.
Otherwise, I just started Xenoblade Chronicles 3 on my switch! Excellent game so far and I’m pushing through
ALBW is soooooo good!!!
I do! Maybe next year!!!
Thank you!!!
Can’t wait for that Sea of Stars DLC next year and I need to finally play the Xenoblade series.
It’s such a great series!
The amount of awesome stuff coming out this year has been daunting!
Awesome bunch of games! I have been thinking about making a series like this for some time just to shout out the games I don't end up reviewing but think deserve some light.
Yeah! I’ve been doing this instead of reviews and it has worked out really well!
I’ll agree with you on Sea of Stars, but there seemed to be something new per level, but yeah, it fell a bit flat, it’s like Golf Story. I enjoyed it though and don’t regret it
Golf Story is one I would like to give a try someday!
that's awesome femtrooper! I'm wanting to play the EarthBound series, so I started EarthBound Beginnings! One step encounters make me want to throw my monitor out the window but seriously I'm determined to get through it! ha ha xD
The original Mother is soooo hard. I haven’t beat it either! I have beat Earthbound of course and Mother 3! Wayyyyyy more user friendly!
Hands down all of this!
Sea of Stars review is very accurate. I was looking forward to it for a long time, until the dialog started then I couldn't get into it.
Yeah, it’s just really mundane and dull!
Please try Visions of Mana. I'm having such a good time with it and I feel like "it respects my time." 😅 The game flows pretty quickly.
Love to hear that! It’s on my list of games to pick up soon!
Oh hell yeah. Got this one on my list
I got a Portal and I’m loving it, I’ve beat sea of stars, final fantasy 2 pixel remaster and Uncharted 3 and Lost Legacy.
Excited for Echos or Wisdom
I need to play FF2!!!
Grandia is excellent! Have fun!
Recent games for me are Shantae: Half genie hero, Final Vendetta and Astrobot
Awesome! I’m playing Astro Bot right now!
@femtrooper awesome! Hope you enjoy
I’m taking a break from Xenoblade Chronicles, I hit a wall and have to grind some. I started the Phoenix Wright games, and am on the second one. And Astro Bot!
That’s awesome! Play those!
All great games.
Thanks! Definitely some heavy hitters!
I just last Wednesday finished Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, which marked the completion of all 9 main line Yakuza/Like a Dragon games (along with a 10th if you include Man Who Erased His Name). Playing Astro Bot now for something light and joyful.
That is amazing! Infinite Wealth is one of my favourite games ever!!! I’m also playing Astro Bot now!
I was looking forward to see what you think of DQ6, glad to see you didn't detest it
I also agree w/ the first Xenoblade being my number 1, but 3 is excellent still and has one of my favorite cast of any rpg ever, will you play through Future Redeemed?
I’m going to play Future Redeemed maybe next year? I just need a break from Xenoblade haha
Awesome games. I am currently playing Astro's bot, Donkey Kong TF and Baldur's gate 3.
That’s a great set of games!!!
I beat Astro Bot including finding all the trophies. I never go for trophies. That is how good the game was. The hype is actually real this time. I was a huge fan of Astro's Playroom. Astro Bot is definitely a game to check out. I am making my way through Returnal now.
Haha I’m actually playing Astro Bot right now!!! It’s amazing so I can’t wait to talk about it!!!
Oooh what model of 3DS were you playing Dragon Quest on? Haven’t seen one with the big Start, Select and Home buttons before!
It’s a 3DS XL! It’s the green Yoshi one! :)
Well, the different colonies are technically the towns in XBC 3. I believe there is a way to remove some of the damage numbers on the screen via the options menu. Did you also play the DLC?
Haven’t played the DLC yet since I want a break from Xenoblade but hopefully soon! I heard it’s amazing!
I'm halfway through the dlc, but I've been taking a break from it too. So many games not enough time.
I lined up a bunch of shorties for September and into October. Ara Fell, Rise of The sentinels, Ikenfell and redemption reavers. Roughly 20 to 30 hours to beat / majority complete these games while I wait for Ys X
I want to play Ara Fell!!!
@@femtrooper Then Play it! 25 total hours. 8.75 outta ten. Very good 👍
@@Eagleknight815 I just may have to!
Just finished Tales of Arise. Now into Mafia Remastered (really clunky so far) amd Skyrim!
Love the videos :)
Thanks! I hope to play Arise soon!
I’m playing Astro Bot right now actually!!! It’s so good!
I actually went back and play some much older title that I never got around to playing and that is Lunar 2 eternal blue complete. I loved the first one on the original Playstation. It's a awesome game if you haven't played either of them but man was it expensive to get the entire box set of the game
I love the original Lunar so I need to play the sequel sometime!
Right now I'm replaying Ni No Kuni 2 for the third time. Criminally underrated game, I don't understand the hate it gets at all. It checks all the boxes for me personally.
It’s one I still need to play and really want to! I’ll admit I’ve been nervous about the kingdom building!
I just finished the campaign for space marine 2!
Nice! Congrats!
I get FOMO when I hear people talking about Xenoblade but then I see footage of the battles, I get over stimulated in half a second and think noooooo I hate that lol. Great list and happy gaming!
Haha, totally get it. It’s kind of ridiculous! Maybe try one of them out someday? But yeah, kind of an insane battle system lol
You should try FFXII. I feel you will love it.
Yes playing Sea of Stars!❤
I’m sad I didn’t love it as much as I thought I would but it’s definitely one of the prettiest games I’ve played!
How did you like DQ5? I don’t remember you ever having talked about it.
Loved it! Beat it a few years ago now but it was excellent!
Fem The Toolman Trooper!
🔥🔥🔥
Totally agree with you on XB3 gives “grandiose exploration” vibes not actual cosy adventure vibes also it’s more of a emotional twist rather than actual gut wrenching dark moments like in the first one(XB1 actually feels like you lost something rather than it just being a twist) XB1 still the best for me also, over the top with bigger budget isn’t always the best.
Totally!!! I love the town to town thing best but I still enjoy big games like Xenoblade!
Given your attitude to side quests - did you go for the true ending in Sea of Stars? I’m guessing not. Me I have 59 rainbow conches and three side quests left. But then I also loved the music and story!
I didn’t go for the true ending so I’ll have to watch it on TH-cam!
For me the 4,5,6 trilogy is great and 5 is the strongest hands down! Such an awesome game! I also love Luigi’s Mansion 3!
I've been playing War Hammer Boltgun awesome old school shooter like Doom, Horizon Forbidden West loving it second playthrough and dead space the best remake to come out in years up there with RE4R
Awesome! :)
i beat ace combat 7 over the weekend, and currently replaying fallout 4 for the billionth time (my fav rpg of all time) 😎
Solid!!! 👍🏻
Glad you loved Xenoblade Chronicles 1! It’s soooooo good!!!
Core Keeper came out today for the Switch....I think you would fall in love with it if you gave it a chance :D
I’ll have to look that up!
Sea of snores
🤣
I used to never finish games but I have a pretty strict rule for myself now with only playing one or two games at once until I finish them!
I need to play P3R! It looks great!
That’s awesome! Those both look like amazing VNs!
@@femtrooper They are. Tsukihime was never officially translated into English before this Remake and I'm pretty sure the same goes for ONE. Both games are 20 years old or their abouts, so this means a lot for fans. I'm a newcomer to both and I really enjoyed them.
Did you do the “true ending” for sea of stars? This review sounds like mine before getting that second ending.
I didn’t so I’ll have to just watch it.
I too have completed dragon quest 6 and sea of stars this year, as for xenoblade I have only completed the first game last year and plan to start the second one later this year, I’m not that organised that I have a list that I follow, I just play what feels right at the time, currently playing Ace Attorney JfA and I’m really enjoying it, it’s got some really good humour in it 😊
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is really good! It’s kinda different and the black sheep of the trilogy but I still really enjoyed it!
I’m really looking forward to it, I really did enjoy the first one especially once I realised I could play as Reyn, I wasn’t enjoying playing as shulk but Reyn is awesome 😎
I'm playing astrobot. It's giving mario chills
IT IS! I’m also playing it now!
I loved Xenoblade 3 but I'm the same, number one is still the best for me. I am currently playing through Visions of Mana! This game looks beautiful and the story is pretty good. Maybe one you check out over time perhaps ☺️☺️
I can’t wait to play Visions of Mana!
You NEED to play Future Redeemed. It's much shorter than the main game and the story hits SO HARD. I liked it even more than base XC3
I can’t wait then!
I've been on a bit of an emulation binge whilst waiting for the 'Echoes of Wisdom' release:
I did a 100% and no death playthrough of 'Ocarina of Time'... again; a first ever playthrough of 'Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver' (Dreamcast); I'm currently playing 'Phantasy Star Online' (GameCube) just because.
I am also considering playing 'Ys I & II Chronicles' (PSP), as I recently secured a copy of 'Ys VIII - Adventurer's Edition' on eBay for a reasonable price and I want to play the series from the start. 👌
Solid! Lots of great stuff there!
I want to play that VN someday!
Totally agree about “Sea of Stars” - beautiful presentation, but not enough heart and soul in the script. Also agree about “XB3” - I liked it more than 2, but 1 is still king. And I hope Monolithsoft ditches the chaotic, cluttered combat aesthetic!
Yes!!! Awesome you agree!
As far as dragon quest goes what would you say is your favorite so far?!
Dragon Quest XI! It’s one of my favourite games of all time!
@@femtrooper oh yeah it’s so solid I absolutely love the XI I’m super excited to see more info on DQ12
I wanted to like the xenoblade series so bad but I don’t like the combat system. I loved sea of stars though! I couldn’t put it down.
Oh good!!!! Yeah, Xenoblade is wacky lol definitely a weird combat.
