Saw Farah on the "rue du Rhône" street in Geneva in 2008, walking by me on the pavement with a group of women. I recognized her instantly as, in the 60s, I would see her often on TV as I was a little child (I was born in 1959). I was waiting for my bus on that Geneva street. Farah was still majestuous, I found.
The Shah divorced his second wife whom he loved dearly so that he can continue his bloodline only to lost his kingdom. In the end he died without his beloved country, without power and without his people.

I read, in some writings, Soraya was very beautiful and a very wise and powerful woman, and she was the most beautiful woman of the king, the king also loved her dearly. And after Soraya divorced, the king became depressed. It has also been mentioned in some writings and sayings of those around the Shah, the Shah said that his marriage to Soraya was due to his intense love and affection for Soraya, and that the other two marriages of the Shah were due to the interests and status of the country. And for the rest of his life, he loved Soraya. She also helped the king in the affairs of the country, And the photos I saw of Soraya, I think she was more beautiful than Sophia Loren.
The Egyptian Princess Fawzia was the love of his life. Thus, he hinted and declared that in his memoirs, praising everything about her, even her elegance, which he said that the Pahlavi family’s princesses tried to imitate and could not. It is strange that he spent the last days of his life in the same palace that witnessed their first meetings and marriage. Is it a coincidence?

The shah did not want to divorce her, but she would not accept his womanising.

I shall remember always and with great fondness the Persians (as they liked to be referred to) who fled the country & arrived in London following the downfall of the Shah. Unlike many of the illegal immigrants flooding into the west now, these were the creme de la creme of their society, with a determination to make a life elsewhere and a hope, one day, of returning to their very beautiful country. Alas, only one of those aspirations came true. Most went on to the USA, many stayed in London, some to France or even Greece. We kept in touch for years. They were simply some of the nicest, kindest, most intelligent, cultured & loveliest people I've ever met. I hope one day their descendants can return to a different & free society.
