These videos arent like a tech review...they are a masterclass on Subarus. The longer they are, they more instructive. Merch ordered, Im supporting this dude with my dollars, and Josh is handling my Series White. Period.
People shouldn’t get bored of the actual brains of the car it makes us real car enthusiasts more in tuned with our cars thanks for that amazing video and keep them coming!
I really liked how you talked about 700whp being the end of reliability and it's maintenance after that. When I had my Series White built last October my builder said pretty much the same thing and actually talked me down from wanting around 700whp into 500-600 range. Makes 509 @ 30 pounds with an IAG700 long block and BCP X500+ stock location turbo, a lot of fun on the street and is daily'd.
How did it last for you? Did you use oem head gaskets? I'm in the exact same position you were with my current rebuild. 550ish goal at this point and will be a daily.
@@crimescene25 I wouldnt buy an STI. I have a Legacy GT, same technical info applies. Pretty negative person huh? I don;t think your link deems a click judging by your attitude :D GLHF
I just got your name recommended by basically everyone in the pnw for subie tuning, nice to see you have a youtube channel. Cant wait to binge all of it!
My other comment I was honestly just joking around. Honestly I really respect what you're saying about being transparent... showing the dyno video, being realistic about power goals for a DD, etc.
"It can move [...] I've had them go out the side of the block." ... That's because a Wills/Cooper ring is supposed to be set into a groove machined into the block or the head.... 🤷♂
I got rid of my STi for an Evo X before you started uploading so much but I can use these to build my buddy's STi....thanks for the informative videos man they are a big help! Love them all!
Thank god for this video. Reminded me I forgot the plug behind the oil Separator cover lol now I gotta pull the trans and clutch/fw off. Good thing I didnt put oil in it the engine and fired it up. Thank you!
Dont you hate those moments you're sitting there and then all of a sudden it hits you... hahah. Trust me ive been there with doing remembering something.
No worries about the lengths of the videos. Perfect in my opinion. Great to see the detail and effort you go into to produce a high horsepower motor...👍🏾💪😎
I noticed you use the gates TCK 328 timing kit. I bought one for my STI and noticed it has some Chinese made bearings. What do you think about their longevity for daily driver use?
That previous video of the build was great. I watched the whole thing. I would have liked you to explain that measuring to you were using and what you were writing down. U kinda convinced me that maybe I can build my own block but if you can make one where you explain what you were doing each step that would be really helpful. I know it takes a lot of time to do that but I think it would bring a lot more detail to your videos and younger Subaru owners like me might want to take on a project like that with your guidance
I never get bored watching how to build engines to be honest, the more info the better!! Loving the content lately keep it up! And i'm just wondering how much boost can you run on stock 2006 sti heads??
I have never built a Subaru engine but I have built many other engines. It looks like the gasket is partially blocking some of the coolant passages?? I don’t know maybe that’s how it’s supposed to be. Figured I’d ask. Nice attention to detail on the builds👍
What causes the idle to bounce in 5:38? I tend to notice it more in classic muscle cars or hotrods than new tuners. i have always been curious. I love it
Bigger cams. Meaning aftermarket camshafts that have a larger lobe on them. It allows the intake & exhaust valves to pull in/exhaust more air than the factory cams, which in turn can make more power. That idle bounce he has is probably a combination of e85 with massive injectors, bigger cams & timing.
Yo Bro cant have enough of this thing. I have rebuilt like 11-12 SOHCs from scratch not a DOHC yet. I am taking next step now; i got used "STI" block from a buddy of mine. How can i tell it is a STI? and also how do i know whick year or model (WRX or STI) ?
Ive got an 07 sti and i bought an iag stage 3 case halve that im rebuilding from scratch the old motor will be sold and im aiming for 600whp, would you say that SOHC is better or should i convert to DOHC as modern STi’s
Thanks for the video. I’ve seen the use of fire rings that are installed into milled grooves in the block. Where does that fall in comparison to this head gasket with fire ring option? I believe they are used with a mls gasket but, I could be wrong. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong on that. Seems like the best of both worlds.
Yo bader you think it’s possible when you’re doing these kinds of videos getting all internal with the engine, could you use a go pro to see exactly what’s going on?
Have you tried O ringing your sleeves ?? My buddy had a company that sleeved engines and they would O ring the sleeves with something like a piano wire. I don’t remember if it actually was piano wire but the deck of the sleeves were machined to accept a wire inserted to help with sealing the cylinders.
I have an '05 Subaru naturally aspirated that I'm rebuilding the engine on. I want to rebuild it bulletproof. I'm just trying to find a head gasket that will allow me to not have to be in the engine for another 500,000 mi
Best new channel I have come across on the 'Tube! Question for Bader, what the most boost/power you let your buddies run on stock sleeves with everything else upgraded. I'm building a street build with GTX3582, S1 cams, 9:1 forged bottom end, Supertech valvetrain. Keep up the good work!!
Thank you for coming on board! Most boost i like to run on stock sleeves ( stock semi closed ej257 case) 30lbs is a good spot to stop. Have I ran more? Yes much more... but the costs of the risk dont pay off. Closed deck stock sleeves, my personal race car has seen as much as 68psi.
@@BaderBuiltRacing Ok so if everything goes smooth on start up and break in ill tell the tuner to stop at 25psi. Thanks Bader. I need to find a Cobb base map for 1300 ID's.
Love the vids dude so much subie goodness packed into one video it gives me a lot of motivation to work on my STI! My current parts I have waiting to go on is iag aos, killer b oil pickup, killer b elh, maperformance dp, Tomei exhaust, maperformance intake, process west TMIC, Cobb 20g turbo, 1050x injectors, Cobb fpr stumble kit, Cobb flex fuel kit, Perrin turbo inlet, and Perrin bpv. Do you have a video on pulling the motor properly? I couldn't find one and I really like how you explain stuff. If you dont do you have some other video somebody made that you might recommend?
Polished cam journals on head as well, subaru's dont have a cam bearing like some cars. Its just aluminum casting that is protected by the film of oil.
Hey great build talk! Just oil the rollers and hinges on that garage-door lol. I just did them for my own door! It works Also how much power can you put to a stock block no aftermarkets? Thanks blood
_BaderBuilt ok thank you man and yea it really helped mine not squeak so damn loud lol and 380 hp damn (I know you’re getting way more than that on the series grey but it’s a lot for me I’ve had a 100hp ranger for the last ten years lol)I’m trying to rebuild mine now blew a rod bearing but I’m in mi and can’t find a machine shop close that will do the boring and redeck the thing!! Also had some damage on the cams. How much damage can it have before you have to throw em away? D25 heads also what would be the best at home attempt to polish them up? Thanks again love the channel
You are the man! I gotta be honest. You have inspired me to want to build an engine for my 2011 STI. It's currently FBO stock block. Now I want to build a motor. But I need guidance. So. Do you know what temperature these gaskets can handle? I have them on my car now and I’m just wondering the highest temp they can handle before failure.
Can these with be run with stock head bolts or studs that are the same size or does the block and heads need to be drilled and tapped for bigger studs?
if im installing a built block and there is nothing wrong with the current block, is the timing chain and tensioners ok or should i replace them? (fa20dit)
