Totally agree Frank but the way it seems to work is: Agent: Mr Club you can have this player you desperately want for x as long as you give me y. Club: Okay. Deal done. The only way to change this is for FIFA to make a law that all agents have to prove they have been paid by their client, i.e. the player. Sadly even if FIFA could make this stick we know their track record for brown envelopes.

Simon and Sky both make good points.
Ultimately matters such as these aren’t decided on a basis of “fairness.” They are negotiated ruthlessly according to positions of leverage.
Sadly, most of the public has been infantilized to the point that this ruthlessness - this steadfast pursuit of self interest - is considered anathema.
As a result, it is impossible to have an open & honest conversation about issues like this in a public forum, for fear of outrage and backlash.
Simon and Sky are two brilliant & experienced businessmen and interlocutors more than capable of hashing out their differences on this issue in a coherent manner.
However, in a public forum, the naive notion of what “should” be done crowds out the more realistic discussion regarding what SHALL be done.
Remember this the next time you hear someone cry about business dealings being conducted with a lack of transparency.

Simon is right 9 times out of ten but in this case because he wouldn’t let Sky actually get his point across he became rude, childish and petulant, how many times has he tried to make a point for someone to interject and him furiously say let me finish what I was saying!
He bangs on about how players earn to much and agents are parasites etc but here’s Sky who if was allowed to finish his point was basically agreeing that the way agents make money needs to change. Yet Simon couldn’t be bothered to be civil for 1 minute to listen. If Sky had told Simon that Christmas is on 25th December Simon would have agued that it’s not and Sky doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
There are a lot of unscrupulous agents who act only for themselves and cause division (which is a point a wholeheartedly agree with Simon on) but Sky is not one of them, for him to be treated with such disdain by Simon is completely out of order.

If the club pay 110 mio to the player and the player pay 10 mio to their agent, it's taxated more than if the club pay 100 to the player and 10 to the agent because the 10 mio to the agent only gets taxated once when it's directly from the club. It's all about tax evation. The club doesn't realy care for them it's 110 mio out either way.

Simple accounting means we pay a service provider (ie. Agents) a fee irrespective of taxes hence if you represent the player they are responsible or club if they hire the agent. Agents are nothing more that spin doctors and should not be allowed to give legal/financial advice without being accredited. For example, I cannot be a financial broker and give financial advice without passing my fiduciary assessments which makes Sky's argument invalid on "expert" advice then.

This discussion needs to start from the identification of what is/are the problem(s) that need to be solved. My suggestion is that the problem is the capacity of agents to manipulate the clubs and players to their financial gain, has gone out of control, This lack of regulation is taking huge amounts of money from the game, dictating to a large extent which players go where, creating hyperinflation of transfer fees and player salaries, diminishing player loyalty, taking away the obligation to perform, and destroying some clubs. Of course the clubs themselves need to question their modus operandi. But right now they are at the mercy of agents and the power that they have, and the obsession/financial neccessity to succeed.

Sky made a comment "Thats not nice".
If thats the future of debate when tough people in a tough industry debate facts, then I fear for the future of how buisness is done.
A lot of bumps in this area need to be sorted and soon.
If agents are not able to provide the best advice, then who is and what are they earning vast amounts of money for.
Should it fall back onto the club to monitor and advise?

Introduce a fixed 5% of the transfer fee for agents. Paid split between both clubs and the player. That’s more than enough 3:51

The argument is just going round and round
At the end of the day it’s not in the agents interest in a player staying at a club for the length of their contract
Agents make money on a percentage of a transfer
Agents should not get a percentage but be paid by the player over the length of their contract
The player should agree to pay their agent a percentage from their weekly/monthly pay packet
