- What would you say if I told you that you didn't know the full story of Daryl Dixon? This is the Daryl Dixon backstory that you never knew. In this one video I break down and explain the COMPLETE ENTIRE STORY of The Walking Dead Survival Instinct. I played it so that you didn't have to. When Survival Instinct came out back in 2013 it didn't get the best reviews and got an overall bad score. Over the years the game has fallen completely under the radar and so so many are missing out on such an important story that is vital to Daryl. This is the story of what happened to Daryl before he met the group in Atlanta, before he met Rick Grimes. I was shocked by what I found in this game.

I loved this game when I was young. I beat it about 4 times. My godmother bought it for me because she knew I loved the walking dead so for my birthday she got me this game and I’ll never forget that. Unfortunately she passed away about 3 years ago so this game definitely holds a special place in my heart.

Exactly! Daryl has hallucinations when he goes through stressful situations. It’s his body’s way of dealing with stress. A defense mechanism, like ptsd. Ty for proving that.
Most TWD characters seem to do this at some point or another
What time has he hallucinated other than hiting his head when he fell and was and almost dying and taking an arrow to the side after his horse saw a snake
@@smwlil6ix333 chupacabra, he also hallucinate seeing his brother several times when he is really beat up or possibly looking at death. This is the way his brain gets his body up and moving.
Abused children who are severely physically or sexually abused almost always display symptoms of escapism. Where they create fantasy dialogue or worlds in their head, or imaginary friends that distract them during and after or even before the abuse occurs. With Daryl I believe he’s experiencing escapism, and creating dialogues with Merle in his head to get him through rough situations.
Also, both times he imagined seeing Merle he'd just taken a blow to the head, which can cause hallucinations.

Damn Man U made me realize that as a child I did resort to escapism a lot. I would play by myself in a fantasy world even as I grew into a young teen I still played outside by myself

I'm surprised you didn't catch the name drop on the walkie during the hospital and stadium missions.... The soldiers mention a "Dr. Candace Jenner" - that's Edwin Jenner's wife, AKA "TS-19" from the episode of the same name in season 1!

I found it kinda strange that Merle was sad about his dad dying when he said he would've killed him if he hadn't left as a teen. It's kinda sad they were never closer to their uncle, he didn't seem to bad
Yeah uncle Jesse was WAY more likable, and this game should’ve been a bigger project if nothing else.
It’s actually realistic. Abusive relationships are like that. One moment you want to leave or kill the abuser, the next moment you will do anything for them. It’s why so many people are trapped in abusive relationships, they are under a delusion.
Maybe the dad wasn't always bad. He had his good moments. So Merle and Daryl kept those moments safe. He was their dad after all, even if he wasn't a good one
I remember merles death being spoiled on like the thursday, Survival instinct coming out on the Friday and Merles death episode on the Sunday, was a big week for the Dixon bois.

That's because the gameplay can get repetitive/boring after sometime. The main way they keep the players interesting is through the lore.
The game pleases the audience of the show that like video games. But if you don't know the show, or don't tend to play a bunch of video games, this becomes just ass 😂

being a guy who can build bikes and then alexandrias garage he used to build his season 5(i think) bike, he probably got a lot more than just his original one
I still find it hard to believe that if Daryl by himself is able to do that much that the military fell so quick
I think it’s mainly because of lack of knowledge about the virus. It’s a lot harder to manage a bunch of people in the military than it is to manage yourself and maybe a few friends. Like say for example a member of the military gets bit by a walker, and not knowing that the bite would cause them to turn, they go to sleep in the barracks next to a bunch of other soldiers, then die in the middle of the night and bite a bunch of other people. Then people go into a state of panic either shooting non infected people or not shooting infected people because they aren’t really sure of the difference. Obviously if a horde of walkers started walking towards a military base they’ll just get mowed down or blown up, but if the virus spread to the soldiers themselves, it’s a whole different story. The virus basically divides and conquers. On the other hand if you’re in a remote area with only 2 other people, it’s a lot easier to manage.

I actually really enjoyed this game, and the parallel of Daryl not being able to put down his father, and Rick not being able to put down Dale hits real hard
I Played this on ps3 a long time ago and up until now had no idea that’s it Canon to the TV show. But this video was very interesting with things like maybe the start of the CRM becoming the CRM. Great video

The only thing merle cared about was his chair lol. " MY CHAIR!" Only time will tell if that chair is still there.
There are numerous ties between the game and the show. Examples of course include the two daughters, Amy and Andrea, Daryl meets later, and the vest he wears, but also... The red rag that the girl, Scout, throws to Daryl is the one that hangs out of his right back pocket. The stash that Merle went to get at Jake's is the SAME one Daryl pulls out of the motorcycle saddlebag in the show. That stash ALSO contains a bag of Blue Sky Meth, which is of course the drugs made in Breaking Bad. The mention of Candace Jenner PROVES that the helicopter MADE IT OUT... because of course she was at the CDC and died there (in the show) Supposedly (although I cannot find confirmation, other than the statements of others) the military vehicle Merle shows up in, at the game's end is the same one they had in the show. Also, supposedly, Jess Collins, at the start of the game, is Will Dixon's half brother, making him Daryl and Merle's half-uncle. I hadn't even THOUGHT about the idea of Daryl escaping in the helicopter to something like CRM or the Commonwealth! OH MAN!!

I think this could have been added to the Tales of the Walking Dead if they didn’t make this game. Maybe they could still do a mini series. I just want to see this in live action, honestly. This game seems like a cut set of flashback sequences for Daryl.

Considering what the military did to the civilian populace consistently and inconsistently throughout TWD universe, his brother probably did save him. Especially under the new context the game shows during the hospital.
I always thought Officer Blake was some relation to The Governor, aka Phillip Blake. He talks about some family in his novel but I can't remember all their names. Also love how Daryl in this still the same Daryl in Seasons 1-3 of the show, before he started opening up to people & realized he has a family again after Merle died

The first helicopter that flew off at the Ending had Dr. Candace jenner (who's Dr. Edwin Jenner's wife) in it.

something i didn't notice you comment on was when the helicopter leaves as Daryl is getting close at the stadium you can here the pilot say "Doctor Caitlyn Jenner is aboard, we are confirmed to leave" possibly referring to TS-19, or Dr. Jenner's wife from the CDC in season 1

I honestly loved this game, tho I’ve always been more about the lore than actual gameplay. Even then I found it awesome that you could only kill the zombies with headshots, something most other zombie games don’t do

Played this as a teen- I still remember the hordes I took down as each one would wait patiently for the one already attacking me to get killed- and as soon as that happened the cycle restarted
I could just never get into the game when it came out cus of the crappy graphics & gameplay, but WOW, the story to this game is actually pretty great, and the narration just made it that much better 👌🏻 love all the Easter eggs towards seasons 1-3 of the show, such as andrea’s parents.
Would be cool to see you do videos on telltale’s the walking dead! (Although telltale twd games are in the comic universe, not the tv show universe, I love the connections there too!)
actually Telatale is maybe in the same universe because in the first season when Glenn leaves the group Lee gives him walkie talkie and thanks to that walkie talkie he was able to save Rick when he was stuck in the tank that was in Atlanta
I loved this game man, I unlocked all of the cheats, played through the entire game 7 times. it was amazing at the time and will always be a favorite.
You get used to trying to be stealthy, and the infinite spawns made the infinite ammo borderline useless, unless you use the crossbow, and or it’s the final level
Its crazy to think daryl went from this to being Judith's father figure.

I knew this game was Daryl’s backstory before he met the group we see in season 1 and I enjoyed the game I would replay it over and over again on my Xbox 360 back in the day man those were good times
Man i've been thinking about this since the game came up, it has the back story that no one knows. It is also important to know that Daryl got throught hell to be with his brother and that's the reason he gets so mad when he loses him again. Thanks for this video!!
Oh wow! 1:47 that’s a cool detail they added, that Daryl couldn’t put someone down before but was able to help Dale cross the rainbow bridge, I actually love that, retroactively adds more depth to Dales death (which severely needed it, seeing as the only reason the actor left was because AMC screwed over Darabont)

If Daryl got on that helicopter and went somewhere like the CRM or Commonwealth, I don’t believe he could’ve lived like that… well live like that the rest of his life… he’s a free spirit… he is always needing to take a breather from everyone… what transpired on TWD is more of who Daryl is than who he was at the Commonwealth.

Daryl Dixon was a legendary character in 2013 just 3 seasons into the show and his character deserved a great game that reveals his backstory. They rushed this game so they could release it before the start of season 3 but it shouldn't have been rushed...this game wasn't what the fans deserve but it's too late this game is canon and they will never do a remake of this game...TWD saints and sinners and future games is the future now.

This game was a cash in...they rushed it so they could get alot of money from releasing during season 3...they have should developed this for a few years and it would have possibly been the Daryl backstory that fans deserve...it didn't look much better than a original xbox game and the pit stop levels were the same maps over and over...the travel choices were also fixed if dialogue started you just wasted gas. This game was bad but it has a very interesting story at times that fans of the show will enjoy and the game was fun but this was a disappointment and the company that made this were selfish and sacrificed creating a great experience bc they wanted to cash in...
This game should retconned and they should remake this story for PS5 , pc and the Xbox Series X...im sure Norman Reedus would it again and Michael Rooker could be persuaded to do one last twd appearance...maybe Hideo Kojima would be interested if twd approach him.

@@Gibbypastrami Its not canon anymore it can't be, Merle feels sad when Daryl tells him that their father is dead and Daryl adores him in the game. In the show they both hated him and got beat up by him, no flashbacks, Merle is barely present and the game was trash all around.
@@Gibbypastrami The reason I thought that Hideo may be interested is BC it would be Norman Reedus who is involved in that project and the opportunity to create a game that could be considered as the best zombie game ever if he gets it right could be hard to turn down but maybe he wouldn't be interested...
Rooker is never coming back as Merle he said that and Norman is too old so its not going to be in tales of the walking dead, Norman should be in a prequel game that shows backstory of Daryl.
This game is a living example of how old this show is, the show is still being produced 3 generations of consoles later

that last name sounded very familiar so I looked it up if you remember Dr Edwin Jenner from season one his wife’s name is Candace Jenner and during the Evacuation the military treated her as a very important person and in the show Dr. Jenner explain to the group how important she was
I had a great time with it. It was fun going back through with your previous inventory and seeing how far you could get and how easier it would be.
I always loved this game and never understood the hate . This was an awesome and informative video , it was nice to see this game finally get a fair retrospective.
I played this game when it first came out and loved it! It’s the only Walking Dead game that has to do with the tv show and not the comics. I played it through about 5 times, I loved using the crossbow and after a learning curve I got pretty good with it, plus it’s silent and after finishing the game you unlock different rewards such as unlimited ammo for different guns. Now after watching your video I feel like playing that game again. 🙂

I thought the same thing at first, but remember back to the game, she wasn’t scared of the walkers, she was just screaming and crying in grief, and when the protagonists show up, she DOESNT want help, because she’s hit! And in Daryl’s game, this lady found a ranger and his walkie, no mention of that in telltale, I think the motel thing is a coincidence tbh

I found the game in a bargain bin a few years ago,10 bucks.. and i bought because i was a big fan of the show. i don't know what's the fuss about it being bad, i think that the develops. Did the best job they could.

The police officer just gives Daryl a shotgun. I can understand given the circumstances that you'd want to make sure a person can defend themself but good lord, is that a risky play on the Deputy Lees part.

I've played this game quite a lot before. Pretty much know ins and outs of this game, even some spots that doesn't have invisible barriers. Don't see why people put down this game. It's just Daryl origin story before he met the group.

My aunt bought me this game for my xbox 360 in 2019 because we shared the same passion for the show and i beat it over 16 times, and when she died in 2022, i beat it one more time for her.
