I sold my 20 STi when the market was peaking because I knew I'd just be placing an order shortly for a VB STi. It was a punch to the gut when my friend/sales guy sent me the STI cancelation email. If this rumor pans out, I'll be placing an order ASAP.
That was quite the gamble to take and it sucks that it didn't work out. I was considering trading my 2015 STI on a new generation one, but I'm glad I still have it since that got cancelled. At this point, I'd like to keep it until I die, being that cars will never be that analog again.
It’s definitely going to be more than 50k hahaha. They touched 43-44k back in 2021. Now they have wrx’s that are almost 50k . I honestly would guess it would be between 58k and 62k
As a 24' base wrx owner, the real challenge will be trying to acquire one without breaking the bank. I honestly think I'm getting so much bang for my buck with this base model that I'm not sure if I'd upgrade/trade in. Exciting news though, eager to see how it comes out!
It also seems like they are working on evolving technology for the manual transmission. First it was the Eyesight system being added, then it was brembo brakes being added with the TR, and now the TR is already discontinued for the tS which implements the eyesight+ brembo brakes+ adaptive dampers+ drive modes+ fully digital dash. I wouldnt be surprised if early to mid next year they announce the tS will be replaced by a real STI which features everything the tS has with a tuned egine, DCCD, and a stronger transmission.

I have a 2023 WRX premium. The car delivers plenty of power stock at just 13.5 pounds of boost. First and second gears are too short, along with the 6k redline. The engine is so undertuned from the factory. The potential for aftermarket improvements is incredible.
Dropped the 21 STI for a 23 Limited and only miss the RUMBLE and BRAKES. Everything else, the WRX wins. That said, don't temp again with an STI haha. xx
I wouldn’t say the Wrx wins everything else, the hydraulic steering system and trans aswell as the lsd’s and dccd are a win for the sti. The sti is also easier and cheaper to upgrade in regards to a fuel system.

Subaru tech here, I'm pretty sure Toyota has something to do with it, and I think you are right about the GR and stuff... We had the Solterra full electric (BZ4X Toyota) and a couple Options and feature was kept for Toyota only on the 23, now with the 24, couple more gadgets and ameliorations, but Kinda feels like they are not giving everything you know ? Even on the tech. manuals and procedures we are left a bit alone in the dark sometimes, so figure... Now the announced new hybrid and electrics; we dont have a lot of info apart from the fact that they mostly made by (with) Toyota.!

Lmao bro a 400 bhp sti is not a monster car. That’s the equivalent of taking a va sti and getting a turbo back exhaust, intake and a tune. It’s like 320-325 whp. I can tell you cars this heavy don’t start to feel fast until you in the 375-400whp range.

But dude you gotta step back and look at what you're driving and compare it to the overall market for most people. 400 bhp is tremendous for anyone who's graduating from a 100-200 hp Civic, Altima, Focus, etc. You can't see or appreciate 400 hp anymore because in your mind the top scale of performance cars these days are like 600-1000 hp and 400 is still on the lower half of that. And if you look at weight ratio, I think 400 is when this car will be really exciting. My car IS 320 whp and I can tell you its wildly different than how it was stock at 260 whp, so Idk what argument you are trying to make by saying the VA STI is 320-225 whp with a tune. Should I reserve "monster car" for anything above 650 whp? Maybe, but its all relative. A lot of TH-camrs in the auto industry tend to say 400 hp is the magic number, so maybe I was over zealous to say its a monster car but for me it would be because I come from a humble background.

Soa employee here, i don't have all the information on the vb sti but what i do know is that it was mostly completed, if you look at the coin tray in the vb wrx, it fits the dccd controler from the va which would have been a carry over. The emissions was the real problem though which is the largest reason it was scrapped. There's always rumors about the sti coming back but we here haven't had any word about it yet.
Makes sense the vb Wrx barely scrapes by emissions. The sti hurt the overall line up of Subarus vehicles as far as emissions and mpg by lowering the average.
@HeavyMetalWRX I have doubts even high ups know much if anything about the sti returning aside from when it was announced in 2020 that possible electrification would see a return. I also doubt that the outback moving to Japan has anything to do with the sti rather the plant will be utilizing the new hybrid technologies like that found for the upcoming forester next year, again all just speculation.
@barsaf9989 currently in the department deals with vin number verification schematics, in other words very low on the list to find out about information on the new sti, really that comes down to if the president of the sti devision presses forward as well as other world markets and their requirements. It will probably not be for years to come and most likely not on this generation.
I literally don't understand why people have such strong feelings for the hatchback version of these sports cars. I despise the look of the hatchback STi, and am praying that that version stays in the past. I'm buying a 2024 VB Limited this weekend with a couple added options, and if the STi comes back and the dealership pulls the, "What will it take to get you out of that and into a new car?" My answer: "Three little letters. S. T. I."

I do think that WRC is going to have an electric Crossover series. The Mustang Mach-E has a rally edition, Lancia’s first new car is a crossover, Mitsubishi is reviving the lancer EVO as an electric SUV, Rivian unveiled the R3-X which was designed for rally… I think that in edition to a hybrid WRX STI there’s also going to be an electric STI Outback. I have a VA WRX and I LOVE it, but I have been wanting to upgrade to the FA24 engine. This rumor has convinced me to wait one more year to see what comes out of Subaru.
The best part for manufacturers is when they don't paint the fenders or other exterior pieces, they don't even pass on those savings to the customers. That's just extra profit for them. So we get uglier cars and don't save any money.

But my point was that it's cheaper for the manufacturers to leave them unpainted, yet they don't pass that cost savings onto customers, it's just more profit for them. On a lot of vehicles where they used to paint them, now it's trendy to leave them bare because they make more money that way. I'm not a fan of getting less for the same cost. Maybe you're fine with that, though.

I’ll believe it when I see it. I highly doubt they will bring it back. And if they do bring it back and the powertrain is different, myself and many other long time STI enthusiasts would be rather disappointed. In my opinion, it must have ej257 motor with STI 6 speed, helical front LSD, DCCD, Torsen rear LSD. Otherwise, don’t call it an STI.
seems like a no brainer for subaru to make; they are already 90% of the way there by having the WRX. Just make it have more power and some limited slip diffs as well as some cosmetics and youre there

I'll believe it when I see it. Until it officially comes out of the horse's mouth (that being Subaru themselves), it'll stay fictious. I don't know if I would trust California's automotive golden boy, Jonny Lieberman. Let's just say for argument sake that "it is going to happen," what would have brought this on now vs calendar year 2023 when it was originally supposed to come out? How much backlash did Subaru of Japan, Subaru of America Inc., and Subaru as a whole globally get for cancelling the STI for no reason to begin with when they had no reason to? Why the change of heart now from them? Was it because they didn't see clearly that their plans of an EV STI (STe) made no sense to the STI customer base? Was it because they were wrong for falling under the government's fuel economy trap like they thought they were producing Hellcat Redeyes and Demon 170s? Is it because they know the WRX tS is immediately dead on arrival before it goes on sale? Those are questions that would need to be answered and explained by Subaru themselves, even if Lieberman were to be right.
Im extremely hopefully but with that said also depressed if they actually do come out with one because you know the mark-ups going to be insane and sold out on top of that
My guess is that Toyota will discontinue the GR corolla and Subaru will bring an STI. With the Celica and MR2 possibly coming back I think the 86 and Celica will be the mid priced cars between 30-50k, and the MR2 will replace the Supra around 60k plus.

Soooooo considering the price for a WRX, The 21 STI started at 38,000. That "Should" Mean, a Price tag of a "Premium" STI (Cloth) Should be 43-46,000. And this is just looking at the price increase trend from the 2021 Model WRX into 2022 and then to now 2024. Especially taking into Consideration of the TR. TR is missing the Dccd, Sti trans, and the higher power. The Nissan Z sport sits at 42k Base. Circuit edition GR Corolla 23' was 43k. So trans, dccd, power... it would be a shame to see it Surpass 46,000.

@@artsarkisyan4095 It really depends on what you're looking to do or get out of the car. The 2022 plus WRX is a fantastic daily vehicle. But if you enjoy autocross and track days somewhat frequently throughout the year The STI is still a phenomenal car. There are trade-offs to both of course.
@HeavyMetalWRX after watching your vids. 2024 wrx with e30 tune seems like a good way to go. 4.5 sec 0 to 60 in a manual is hard to achieve on most modern cars. Vb wrx seems to be a great platform. Been a subie fan boy since high school 20 years ago. Always wanted a wrx, now I definitely have the means.
fake news, a true STI will never return its going to be a dressed up WRX with a practically no physical/mechanical changes and all cosmetics and some tacky badge.
This is exactly why I don't buy the VB WRX. I knew the STI was coming back, and I have my own source about the S210 coming soon, although it will only be available for Japanese customers.
If they did, big IF and good scoop if its true! If, ICE technology STI (Synthetic fuel and Hydrogen with ICE is the future/ until we go Star Trek). I dont know why more companies like Porsche aren't creating there own Synthetic factories for fuel production, fully sustainable, lower emission than EV could ever be and we still can run old and new engines, like Porsche it can run there race campaigns in the short term. They also aren't reliant on fuel sources or slave labor for EV minerals! I will buy it, possibly consider a F1 system of Hybrid version! But if Subaru kill this with an EV version, I'm done with Subaru for life! I have 2 left, none newer than 2006! I wont buy another Subaru with the direction they have gone and I have been a loyal fan for over 3 decades! I hate CVT though Subaru's system is better than most in a daily driver, but I just cant buy into it! Gone to woke for me! Back to Rally bred or I'll just enjoy what I have which I will either way! By most accounts the FA24 has been considered very under tuned, whether to allow the SPT to compete or to give the EPA handies, as it can handle upwards of 400 whp before noticeable reduction to reliability happens. My TR provides me a level of responsibility that I can argue the purchase wasn't linked to midlife crisis, and all of the mods are part of a hobby that I need in retirement.

Would love to see it but definitely wouldn't buy it. It will definitely be 50k+ given the current WRX trims. Not to say it's not worth it just that I'd rather have a BRZ/86 and not have to think about the payments. All fun, no stress.

Soa employee here, i don't have all the information on the vb sti but what i do know is that it was mostly completed, if you look at the coin tray in the vb wrx, it fits the dccd controler from the va which would have been a carry over. The emissions was the real problem though which is the largest reason it was scrapped. There's always rumors about the sti coming back but we here haven't had any word about it yet.

Makes sense the vb Wrx barely scrapes by emissions. The sti hurt the overall line up of Subarus vehicles as far as emissions and mpg by lowering the average.
@HeavyMetalWRX I have doubts even high ups know much if anything about the sti returning aside from when it was announced in 2020 that possible electrification would see a return. I also doubt that the outback moving to Japan has anything to do with the sti rather the plant will be utilizing the new hybrid technologies like that found for the upcoming forester next year, again all just speculation.
@barsaf9989 currently in the department deals with vin number verification schematics, in other words very low on the list to find out about information on the new sti, really that comes down to if the president of the sti devision presses forward as well as other world markets and their requirements. It will probably not be for years to come and most likely not on this generation.
I literally don't understand why people have such strong feelings for the hatchback version of these sports cars. I despise the look of the hatchback STi, and am praying that that version stays in the past.
I'm buying a 2024 VB Limited this weekend with a couple added options, and if the STi comes back and the dealership pulls the, "What will it take to get you out of that and into a new car?"

I do think that WRC is going to have an electric Crossover series. The Mustang Mach-E has a rally edition, Lancia’s first new car is a crossover, Mitsubishi is reviving the lancer EVO as an electric SUV, Rivian unveiled the R3-X which was designed for rally… I think that in edition to a hybrid WRX STI there’s also going to be an electric STI Outback. Just reading the room, but if I’m right… just remember I called it
If it really happens I'm not gonna take it well sine I ordered a TR that I'm gonna get in november. I always thought about getting a STI when I would have decided to change my VA but there was no STI on the VB platform. I have a VA WRX and I LOVE it, but I have been wanting to upgrade to the FA24 engine. This rumor has convinced me to wait one more year to see what comes out of Subaru.
Hopefully they color match the fender flares and makes any black bits gloss black. Would look much more premium without adding much cost.

The best part for manufacturers is when they don't paint the fenders or other exterior pieces, they don't even pass on those savings to the customers. That's just extra profit for them. So we get uglier cars and don't save any money.
@@usefulidiot21 well the fenders Are subjective. You can say some people have to spend extra money because it's "ugly" But I say there's no extra money spent because I think it looks great. 🤷♂️
@@HeavyMetalWRX It's true that the look of the fenders is subject and I made it clear that I find that ugly. But my point was that it's cheaper for the manufacturers to leave them unpainted, yet they don't pass that cost savings onto customers, it's just more profit for them. On a lot of vehicles where they used to paint them, now it's trendy to leave them bare because they make more money that way. I'm not a fan of getting less for the same cost. Maybe you're fine with that, though.

They purposely told you why they did it and it was a specific design choice not so that they could just leave it unpainted so you can fix it. There was never anything to fix in their original design according to them.
I hope they do come out with a legitimate STI so that people won’t be up in arms about another WRX trim

Sales go up and down. They may be down now but interest rates are still pretty doodoo. Car sales arent always "people don't like the car" but people often think that's the sole reason.

I’ll believe it when I see it. I highly doubt they will bring it back. And if they do bring it back and the powertrain is different, myself and many other long time STI enthusiasts would be rather disappointed. In my opinion, it must have ej257 motor with STI 6 speed, helical front LSD, DCCD, Torsen rear LSD. Otherwise, don’t call it an STI.
seems like a no brainer for subaru to make; they are already 90% of the way there by having the WRX. Just make it have more power and some limited slip diffs as well as some cosmetics and youre there

@@HeavyMetalWRX I would personally disagree with that, mainly because Akio Toyoda was President of Toyota at the time. Akio himself is a Subaru fan and even owns an STI hatch iirc, he would have loved brotherly competition between the two companies at the WRC.

I don't know if I would trust California's automotive golden boy, Jonny Lieberman.
Let's just say for argument sake that "it is going to happen," what would have brought this on now vs calendar year 2023 when it was originally supposed to come out? How much backlash did Subaru of Japan, Subaru of America Inc., and Subaru as a whole globally get for cancelling the STI for no reason to begin with when they had no reason to? Why the change of heart now from them? Was it because they didn't see clearly that their plans of an EV STI (STe) made no sense to the STI customer base? Was it because they were wrong for falling under the government's fuel economy trap like they thought they were producing Hellcat Redeyes and Demon 170s? Is it because they know the WRX tS is immediately dead on arrival before it goes on sale?
Those are questions that would need to be answered and explained by Subaru themselves, even if Lieberman were to be right.

My guess is that Toyota will discontinue the GR corolla and Subaru will bring an STI. With the Celica and MR2 possibly coming back I think the 86 and Celica will be the mid priced cars between 30-50k, and the MR2 will replace the Supra around 60k plus.

Soooooo considering the price for a WRX, The 21 STI started at 38,000. That "Should" Mean, a Price tag of a "Premium" STI (Cloth) Should be 43-46,000. And this is just looking at the price increase trend from the 2021 Model WRX into 2022 and then to now 2024. Especially taking into Consideration of the TR. TR is missing the Dccd, Sti trans, and the higher power.
The Nissan Z sport sits at 42k Base. Circuit edition GR Corolla 23' was 43k. So trans, dccd, power... it would be a shame to see it Surpass 46,000.
Yeah my 21 sti limited was around 43.5k before taxes. I imagine a new sti would be mid to high fifties.

It’s not necessary. The VB WRX engine is capable of easily handling 365 HP @ 6800 rpm, not the stock 6000.

@@artsarkisyan4095 It really depends on what you're looking to do or get out of the car. The 2022 plus WRX is a fantastic daily vehicle. But if you enjoy autocross and track days somewhat frequently throughout the year The STI is still a phenomenal car. There are trade-offs to both of course.
@HeavyMetalWRX after watching your vids. 2024 wrx with e30 tune seems like a good way to go. 4.5 sec 0 to 60 in a manual is hard to achieve on most modern cars. Vb wrx seems to be a great platform. Been a subie fan boy since high school 20 years ago. Always wanted a wrx, now I definitely have the means.
Hope they do. But if they put in ASS (Auto Start Stop), then I gotta zonk it.

If they did, big IF and good scoop if its true! If, ICE technology STI (Synthetic fuel and Hydrogen with ICE is the future/ until we go Star Trek). I dont know why more companies like Porsche aren't creating there own Synthetic factories for fuel production, fully sustainable, lower emission than EV could ever be and we still can run old and new engines, like Porsche it can run there race campaigns in the short term. They also aren't reliant on fuel sources or slave labor for EV minerals!
I will buy it, possibly consider a F1 system of Hybrid version!
But if Subaru kill this with an EV version, I'm done with Subaru for life! I have 2 left, none newer than 2006! I wont buy another Subaru with the direction they have gone and I have been a loyal fan for over 3 decades! @@Bumblebeewrx goes into their efforts to streamline production. I wonder how many VB owners who got the STI at home version will be pissed off if Subaru comes out with something like this. By most accounts the FA24 has been considered very under tuned, whether to allow the SPT to compete or to give the EPA handies, as it can handle upwards of 400 whp before noticeable reduction to reliability happens. My TR provides me a level of responsibility that I can argue the purchase wasn't linked to midlife crisis, and all of the mods are part of a hobby that I need in retirement.

Would love to see it but definitely wouldn't buy it. It will definitely be 50k+ given the current WRX trims. Not to say it's not worth it just that I'd rather have a BRZ/86 and not have to think about the payments. All fun, no stress.
