    You gents are genuinely gifted with an uncanny talent in creating exquisite, high interest vids. I was a tv news videographer for 20 years (until my shoulders gave out). You inspire me to take my iPhone out on weekends and see what local stories I can find. Your talent for storytelling with pictures is something not many on TH-cam have❤❤❤Thank you for all you do for us.❤️❤️🇬🇧🇬🇧❤️❤️

    Thank You Simon and Will!! In spite of being unable to afford to travel anywhere at this time, your videos are a great intro to each of the areas. Reading about it is NOT the same as actually watching to see what these areas look like and what a "fincula" actually is. In the US it's called something else that the coal miners used in Pittsburgh, PA and parts of West Virginia. But I can't remember what it's called because I don't live there. Last BUT NOT least, watching your videos are great for your mental health. Cheers and Hugs from NYC

    I visited Lynton and Lynmouth a few years ago. I had wanted a go on the funicular for years! And the Valley of the Rocks was spectacular for views of the coastline. In the hot weather we had it felt positively Mediterranean. Thank you so much for the memory jogs, in yet another wonderful video. Always a pleasure to watch😀.

    These beautiful small villages that you are visiting are a step back in time. Away from the cities there seems to be a totally different feel where you can see that the communities care about their environment. The tidal distance between low and high is really amazing, you wouldn't want to fall asleep on the beach =-( . Thank you as always for my tiki tour to an English village. I always wonder whether my ancestors walked the footpaths that you show. Take care.

    Absolutely wonderful! The fantastic views, and charming features of each town. That is some serious shingle! The water-powered funicular is so interesting, and I loved when the driver waved at you. The area does have an Alpine feel; I first rode a funicular up to the Fortress in Salzburg, Austria. For years I've heard about the ancient English practice of using small fields surrounded by hedgerows, especially on hillsides. So scenic, as well as providing an environment for birds and other wildlife. It made me think of that episode of the old series, To The Manor Born, where the new owner wanted to rip them out in favor of 'corporate' farming methods. Terrible! Where would the hedgehogs live? ;D Your videos are always a lovely treat! :)

    At £3.50 one way the Cliff railway is very expensive. Seven pence per foot. £37 per mile. It may be the most expensive transport in the UK. In 2018 an adult return ticket was £3.90, daily pass £10, weekly pass £20. Your production wouldn't look out of place on the BBC's travel show.

    I visited Lynton and Lynmouth back in the mid-1990s and it hasn't change one bit. The west country remains Britain's best kept secret, but now and then a few of us Yanks find our way there and savor the experience. I enjoyed the best mutton sandwich of my life in Lynmouth. Not only is the area beautiful and charming, the people were wonderful. Thank you for refreshing fond memories.

    Very enjoyable, Simon, what lovely weather. Must check out your Parracombe video as we lived on the moors nearly as a young 'un. Certainly looks all very spick & span - and isn't the Cliff Railway brilliant - why aren't there more of such perfectly formed modes of transport?! Happy travels, looking forward to Dunster, hope you made the castle it's worth a detour - mind you there's a lot to see in North Devon - quite a contrast to South (where the family are now based.) And I can't belive you saw so many goats - they must have more, I've never seen them!!

    A fair amount of damage there from just 9.1 inches in 24 hours. I once emptied an overflowing 6 inch rain gauge 6 times in under 36 hours here in North Queensland during 1 of the more extreme cyclonic deluges. Within 3 days of the rain ceasing you could drive to Cairns Via Kuranda which recorded 7 feet of rain in the week! A hillside on the farm did slip and fill the water supply dam though. 😱🙄

      I remember this well. and read a book about it, written by the local police Constable, who was a real hero. He raised the alarm , and saved many lives, when he investigated the horiffic noise of a Avalanche of huge boulder's and massive trees thundered down the the river's narrow Gorge, smashing everything in it's path. Google, 'The Lymouth Disaster.'

    Isn't there a similar water powered funicular in Folkestone?

    • @MemorySeekers
      @MemorySeekers  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I made a mistake there a few in the U.K. actually, having looked further. I put a note in the first comment about this correction last week. Thanks

  • @gabimala3644
    @gabimala3644 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    SORRY; BUT THE FUNICULARE IS NOT THE ONLYONE IN THE WORLD; WITCH RUNS BY WATER. IN WIESBADEN IN GERMANY THERE IS A ANOTHERONE, CALLED THE NEROBERGBAHN. How the Nerobergbahn works
    The mountain railway at the foot of the Neroberg in Wiesbaden was opened on 25 September 1888 and has been transporting visitors up Wiesbaden's local mountain at a speed of 7.3 km/h ever since. This works by means of a sophisticated drive mechanism: at the top station, the carriage is filled with up to 7,000 litres of water and then pulls the other carriage uphill on a steel cable. Once the downhill trolley has reached the bottom, the water is drained and pumped uphill again.
    Greetings from German and always looking foreward to your videos 😘

      @MemorySeekers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, thank you for this correction. I did say only one in the UK and 3 in the world, others Portugal and Switzerland. You are certain right though one in Germany and in fact digging deeper than before there appears to be even more and a couple in UK so my research let me down this time. All the best. I will add a note to the first comment.

      Thank you for your answer, i only knew about the funiculare, because i was there as a child and had a ride. I'm always very impressed about all the information and backround knowledge in your videos. I'm always looking forward to your next video.@@MemorySeekers

    First off love your videos your camera work is perfection.
    But why in the world would anyone want to take an American Western themed picture in England?! Is that really a thing? And in front of a confederate flag to boot. LIKE WHY?!

      Many thanks, glad you liked it. I think you can pick all sorts of costumes and backdrops, never seen the appeal myself. You usually see them as Victorians. People come from all over the world so I guess they must have had requests. As to why I guess only they know?? 😂

    Beg to differ about the cliff railway being the only example in the UK. There is another of this water powered type of lift in Saltburn, North Yorkshire. Shorter it's true but working on the same principal.

    Looks a lovely place to visit and so scenic. They must have a good council. A few miles down the coast, Combe Martin and Ilfracombe are falling to bits and couldn't hold a candle to Lynton & Lynmouth.
