Haha to be fair I get like that with friends too. One of my friends has a Bosh MUM, the other has a KitchenAid and I have a Kenwood Chef. Whenever we talk about baking it ends up in a competition which is silly because OBVIOUSLY my Kenwood takes the cake :P

I have 4 kitchenaid mixers my oldest one is from 1941, then I have 2 6 quart professional models, one is a pro HD, and the last one is a tilt head with no bowl or attachments (my sweetie picked that one up at a yard sale for 10 bucks ) that I mostly use for my pasta attachments and the meat grinder and sausage stuffer

Waouw! I'm so impressed ! She sure took good care of it ! My first one broke after 1 year of use, i bought it while i was in pastry school, i felt like i was not a beginner who mis-used it ( sister and mum are pastry too)
My retailer finally agreed to exchange it after 4 years because it would break once a year. The new one looks ok now but i still have 2 other brands stand mixer that i use from time to time

I've had an Aucma mixer for 6 years now, been used roughly once a week so it's been used but not overly intensive, no damage to it at all. As you say it's a little tricky to clean and the older model you are able to trap fingers in when putting the top down. For the £80 if I had to replace every 6-10years I'd still say it's a pretty good hard wearing machine.

My kitchenaid is at least 20 years old and still works without problem.
Have had to replace the wire whisk . The new whisk has stainless steel wires but the bit where it attaches is now made from an inferior metal so it is not recommended to be put in the dishwasher. That is a negative for me. The other negative bit is when I choose to wash the bowl by hand, it tips over easily because of its small base. Having made these comments, I love my kitchenaid and will replace it with a new one when and if this one fails. I loved this video. Thanks Cupcake Jemma and crew!

Mine is a light blue sunbeam standmixer (I christened it Bluey) that I bought on special when I was a broke student, loved baking but couldn't afford a KitchenAid so I read so many reviews and waited for sales. I've had it for years now and I'm pretty happy with it, the paddle is silicon coated so mixes super evenly, and has 12 speeds. If the sad day comes that Bluey ever passes, I will definitely invest in a Kitchen Aid now that I can finally afford one lol. My dad got me my first KitchenAid Artisan Mixer about 6 years ago for Christmas. It makes baking so much easier, and since getting my mixer I bake more often. I also use it for making mashed potatoes, and making shredded chicken or pulled pork both boneless. Being able to do more than just baking with it is so great. My KitchenAid Artisan Mixer lives on my countertop because it is a prized tool in my kitchen I use when cooking.

    • @macaoron
      @macaoron 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Hand mixers are excellent tbh. They're lightweight, easy to store and transport, inexpensive (I bought mine from a Craigslist listing), and mine has such a great range of speeds too. In fact, because you mix around with your hand, it mixes more thoroughly than the stand mixer, and often times I find that I spend less time to get the results I need compared to what the recipe says. It does get tiring, and it's difficult to add an ingredient while I am mixing (e.g. making Italian meringues), but I'm an infrequent baker, so overall it has served me well and I had no problem recreating Cupcake Jemma recipes!

After seeing all of that, I still love my Kenwood Chef the best, it's somewhere in between the Kmix and the KitchenAid for price, power, speed settings and available attachments/bowls. It's not as pretty as any of the ones you guys reviewed but it's taken 12 yrs of me using it heavily and is really easy to maintain and keep clean 😍

I've had a Kenwood K-Mix for around 3 years now and had my Kitchenaid Artisan for 4 months. Having the Kitchenaid has made me question why I put up with my Kenwood for so long! It's currently in for it's third warranty job (two of those have been replacing the plastic ring at the bottom of the glass bowl) and now the glass bowl is completely stuck on the base so it will be in with them for 15+ working days to get sorted. The Kitchenaid is a God send in all categories! I can't wait to get more of them and the attachments to go along with it!

    • @spencerwilton5831

The Cake Club Glass and ceramic bowls never work well regardless of brand. I have had KA and Kenwood and find Kenwood to be better by far. A KA is usually 325 watts, a Kenwood three times that or more. Best bet is actually a Kenwood chef, 1500 watts, all metal gears. They will make bread all day long, which would kill a KA in hours.

Just wanted to add another comment about the KMix and that’s the attachments. I got two the silicone side scraper (similar to Jemma’s but silicone on both sides) and the folding tool. Both are great and the slowest speed on the KMix is the folding speed (the red speed icon on the dial). Haven’t tried the top attachments yet, perhaps you could review a range of attachments for both the bowls and also on the top of the Kitchen Aid and KMix. Anyway, really good review. Totally agree that the Kitchen Aid is the better one but like you guys said, the KMix is great for a couple of times a week baker and can stay on your counter. 😃.

One issue is the ring on the bottom of the glass bowl breaks pretty easily however I did invest in a stainless steel bowl and Kenwood did actually send out a new ring for the glass bowl free of charge. Hands down a great mixer I will probably upgrade when my kmix gives up to a Kitchenaid!

My mother and mother-in-law both have the ones they got when they were married. So at least 30 years. Still good to go. I do wish it had a slightly lower speed since I don’t have a hand mixer. Thanks, enjoyed watching. A suggestion for a future video is the comparison in the quality of products used and if they really do give you a better value, e.g butter: Asda versus M&S versus Fancy French brand. Or the same for flour, chocolate etc. Is Dr Otekar as good as Sainsbury's own? Does nice baking really have to be about the best ingredients money can buy!?

I think it would be helpful, but Jemma has quite an international audience, so it'll be hard to find certain brands in different locales. However she has given a few pointers on how to find quality ingredients, for example butter with low water content and icing sugar with maize as a binding agent (?), and maybe that will help out even more!

@@macaoron Thanks Max, well said! Love it when you guys help each other out. True. I think it's not so much about brands so much, as they vary so much and often it can be about what you can get your hands on or afford, but about integral key qualities of ingredients to look for i.e % of cocoa butter in chocolate, caking agent in icing sugar etc.

I actually used it 2 days ago for the first time, making cupcakes (your recipe ofcourse). But it did a very good job! The machine did make quite some noise, but since I'm not a regular baker, I don't really mind. The machine was doing very well!

Jo i think i depends on your personality and your kitchen... red looks very polished and luxurious (al least for me) pink of course is girly and soft. I wished for a purple one, but the store only had silver, red, white and pink... so i went up for the pink one 💕 no matter the color, Kitchen Aid is 👌🏻

Thanks for commenting here. I have a Kmix which is waiting to be unboxed. After seeing this review I purchased a Kitchenaid and then cancelled the order. I don't know why but I feel that I will be much better off with Kmix rather than a KitchenAid.
Seeing your comment made me feel better about my choice.
By the way, how is it still running?

Kitchenaid has always interested me, and I love the idea with that special paddle! I use a SMEG stand mixer and I adore it. It's basically on the same level as a Kitchenaid in terms of quality and performance, and has a whole bunch of attachments that can be used. I personally love using the pasta attachment for making spaghetti!

Thank you so much, best wishes from Germany

Compare the head part of the balloon wisk on Dane's and the balloon wisk from Kitchenaid, which you can purchase on its own! I say that because looking at the piece that where they attach at, Dane's mixer has the same spring attachment as some of the other Kitchenaid mixers!

My first mixer was my mom's Sunbeam she got in 1950 when she got married. It was still going strong through 2008 when my dad passed & we donated it.
In 1973 when I got married I got a Sunbe as m of my own. It died in tge late 1990s.
My husband gave me my Kitchenaid mixer for Christmas 1998. Its still going great although I have noticed some grease leaking from the motor housing. I've learned that the older machines were made by Hobart and were much better quality than the one I have.
Mine is a bowl lift model and its the only model I would get again. Luckily all the attachments will work perfectly in a new machine when I decide to get a new one.

Thanks for the review! I was hoping for a review of the dough hooks with a bread dough? Because I think a lot of machines can easily srtuggle with a massive bread dough.

    • @spencerwilton5831

Ophelia If you make a lot of bread buy a Kenwood chef titanium. Whichever size suits. The motors are several times more powerful than KA mixers- the largest is 1700 watts compared to the KA artisan at 325 watts- it will effortlessly deal with long kneeling of large quantities of heavy dough which would kill the KA.

I bought my first KitchenAid a good few weeks back. I became inspired by Jemma's bakes and gained more confidence in myself when it came to baking so I knew it was about time that I invested in one and I love it🥰 It was a good bit cheaper than Jemma's one, on sale in a local shop but I like that even though I don't have the extra attachment like Jemma or the bowls, I have the option to get them. Prior to it I had a cheap style one like Dane's that I bought in Aldi and also similar to Dane's, it worked very well for small scale bakes and cookies but as I wanted to expand my baking ability I knew I had to change my mixer & I am in love with it😍 My fiancee convinced me to get it and I'm glad she did 🤗 She also bought me my Cupcake Jemma book😊 Having said all that my Nan is an old school, traditinal, Irish nanny baker who has had a Kenwood for years and she has never had a problem with it. They are all good and serve their purpose in their own right😍 Thanks for the video, always puts a smile on my face to watch you guys, love to see Nikki in more videos, her & Dane are hilarious 😅 Take care and be safe thanks for everything that you and all the C&D gang do to make life full of colour and batter😊😋♥️♥️ ♥️KitchenAid Love 😍♥️

I’ve had 3 kitchenaid artisan mixers, one my parents got for me when I was still in school and living with them. Then I decided to leave it at their house when I moved out so that my mum could keep it (and I can use it when I’m over), a Tangerine one I bought on promo when I was in uni, and I have sold that because I got over the bright colour after about 7 years, and my husband bought me the 100 year limited edition one in misty blue with the white stainless steel bowl for my birthday last year. So yeah... I looooooooooove the Kitchenaid. The yellow one at mum’s house is now 14 years old and still works like brand new!

I've kind of been an infrequent but enthusiastic baker who's been wanting to take it to the next level - my mum just bought me the KitchenAid as a birthday gift, so I'm super excited to be able to do more and do it more easily.
I found this really helpful, because it pointed out a few things that perhaps I hadn't considered. I'd said to my mum that she should get me a cheaper one like the Kenwood, although she was pretty insistent on the KitchenAid - and after this review, I'm really glad that she pushed for it. I'm really excited to try out an Italian Meringue buttercream!
Cheers for this video and all the lessons along the way.

Hi Jemma from Norway😊 I had a senz kitchen machine before, it was similar to Dains machine. I used it for about 2,5 years for all my orders like wedding cakes ect. It was very good and it handled all my frequent use, but after it broke i bought myself a kitchenaid artisan. The kitchenaid was such a pleasure to use and so stressfree. Love it❤ But for a baker that sometimes bakes, the machine Dain has, it will do perfectly and it's much cheaper.
I also wish that kitchenaid had thought about the slow speed, because it is often needed in baking projects.

Kitchenaid should sponsor you because you make a great brand ambassador for their product! It’s always good to see comparisons with like machines and you all put them to the test equally while stating what you liked and didn’t like as much with each product which is what everyone really appreciates! I have been to the Kitchenaid plant and watched them being produced, it is an amazing process to watch and makes you understand the cost.

That was a very nice demonstration and I'm sure it will be very helpful for a person who is in the market for a new mixer. We own a kitchenaid and it is a great machine. Unfortunately, ours doesn't live on the counter, so we have to lug it out and lift it up onto the counter every time we use it. It's heavy and bulky, but still worth it. Years ago, from amazon we ordered one of those paddles with the bowl scraper attached. I love that thing. It does a really great job.
