- Once again, I’m alive, been a while since I did this kinda video. With the new Fire Emblem game out, I wanted to do so once more, since these are the main videos people know me for nowadays.
For this series I skipped one of the Alear forms to avoid showing the same, or similar convo twice. Due to the fact the supports seem to be the same for both Alears, I’m not going to film fem Alear.
Because this is a more traditional FE game, we have three supports per unit. We also have the equivalent of an S support but only for Alear and the other units. I filmed the S Pact Ring supports in advance so Alear’s will come last.

I really just like the idea of Lapis entering a gladiator ring to fight in her tournament, going up against a terrifying buff dude who almost feels bad for fighting against such a delicate little girl, the guy goes in for a hit, only to get their arm gripped by one of Lapis' hands casually getting their entire body lifted up and thrown behind her effortlessly, all while Lapis is thinking "huh, humans are a lot weaker than bears"

It a little scary how real Lapis sounds. She sounds exactly how a rural Midwestern farmer girl would sound and talk like and not some stereotypical southern twang like how many would expect farmers to sound like.
Like I could probably only need to talk to like 50 or so farmer girls where I live to find someone who sounds like this.

@@richardshiflett5181 Such trivialities have never stopped people - it certainly didn't stop them from having FE6 ships despite Roy also being the only one who gets a paired ending. Combined with the fandom's ability to create pairings that are very much crack...

Literally the worst unit in Engage and it makes me so mad. I want to use her.
She is a worse Martial Master than Framme.
Weaker Swordmaster than Clanne AND Kagetsu.
Slower and weaker Berserker than Jean.
She has really good supports getting Anna and a lot of other characters that work together.
But there is no team comp where she shines or fills a role where her supports means a lot.
Her ONLY use is being the fastest thief. But she will be doing no damage even compared to Yunaka.
I have tried everything but there is no justifying her unless you could make her a dancer. (But you can't)
You could make her a Sword Griffin Knight. But that is just Chloe's job.

While I'm not gonna spring to her defense in terms of viability (I certainly don't think she is among the upper echelons, for instance), I would never for a second consider her the "worst unit in engage".
She has a few things going for her, my blind Maddening playthrough employed Hero Lapis abusing Brave Assist to great success, and she became a consistent tool to overcome draconic units by doubling down on her speed - highest growth in the game tied with 2 others, for the record - with speedtaker. In terms of utility, she is actually the first non-Alear physical sword unit given to you, since you probably aren't filling Céline with that role. Hero stacking is a pretty dominant strategy, and Lapis is likely your first and most consistent one, as other units require either a seal investment, lost opportunity costs, or just joining much later.
It is true that Kagetsu absolutely beats her, but that's honestly an outlier. Running some stat calcs for that boy, someone at IntSys dun goofed and his stats are abnormally high, ain't no one beating that man in anything. Being a chain bot also gets over her crippling issue of having low STR, and sometimes an exceptionally speedy unit with consistent chip damage is exactly what you need. If you are looking for her niche, that's likely the one.
Allow me to explain. TECHNICALLY Lapis is not the worst unit in the game based on potential usage. Vander is way worse off in terms of long-term stats due to his high internal level, and to salvage Clanne is more work, but the thing is that Clanne and Vander have huge value in the opening chapters of the game. While you can technically make Lapis good, IE super-fast dodge tank, why would you? She does not do anything of note in her opening chapter besides be a backup bot and within the next 3 chapters you get two more sword users. Clanne is the speedy mage when you have no other, and Vander is your pre-promote, but Lapis is just there.
Lapis is faster than Diamant when you get him, but Diamant can still double the enemies from the next two chapters making him effectively Lapis but stronger since Lapis is not a covert nor is 15 speed base enough to avoid tank. So Lapis has no exclusive usage in her opening chapters and then Kag steps in and completely washes her away with his stats. Even if you promoted her right when you got her and got her to Kag's level, they would still be even on speed AND Lapis would not surpass him for another 10 levels. And during that time Kag would extend the defense, strength, res, luck, build and HP gap even further. Kag doesn't just hit harder, but he is stronger in LITERALLY every stat (besides Magic and Speed).
And the Hero stacking can be done by anyone, and Kag still does it better.
Lapis is also fighting for your master seal when you get her. Which is really bad since you want that for either Jean, Anna, Citrinne, Louis, Chloe, Alear, Alcryst, Diamant or anyone else you may want to use. So reclassing her actively hurts your team's potential effectiveness.
Kagetsu is a monster which nullifies a ton of characters (and that makes me super mad to be honest)
So, we have established that Lapis is bad in her introduction and does basically no damage, she is fighting for a master seal with a ton of extremely strong characters, she is outclassed by the other two base sword units who come in the next 3 chapters and Lapis does not scale in the long term in any stat besides speed (barely). So what is her purpose? Even with Bunet and Pard, their location on their introduction map is more valuable than anything Lapis has to offer since they can support Fodago and kill some of the thieves which are going from above to kill the villages. You can never touch either again, and they will still have been more helpful than Lapis.
Also, Lapis passive reduces her crit which is the one thing that she could have done to increase her damage. You could have justified her with her amazing passive, but nope it actually makes her even weaker. In a game about killing people or proving utility, she does not do either.
And look, I LOVE Lapis. I think her character is super sweet and I have tried every single class to try and make her work, but she just not better than any alternative at any time. And I would LOVE to be proven wrong.
I am also on a Maddening Classic blind run, but she has no niche that would make her better than anyone else at any point.
Lapis also has really low build. So you have to make her a Berserker for a while so she can hold anything heavier than a pencil.
@@jonahkluger6136 I don't disagree with you there at all! My response was mostly due to the statement of "literally the worst unit in engage" from the original comment, which you and I have both agreed that it's hyperbolized :P
Although some more points to reply with - Kagetsu literally existing is just unfair, probably shouldn't be a point against Lapis' viability (not implying that you tried to argue that, of course). The man can literally hijack any melee unit's role in the game and does it better than them, he's a pretty clear outlier in that regard. Like the literal only point you can make against Kagetsu is his join time being the unfortunate moment when you lose the first 6 rings, and in a no-DLC Maddening run, does kind of hurt as he's stuck as the doo-doo swordmaster class until Ch. 14 when you can get Ike to attain axe proficiency and reclass him into a better combat class. But even that isn't really enough to stop the boy.
Despite all of Lapis' flaws, including my personal moment when I was comparing her stats to Diamant on the literal next chapter and trying every bit of copium I have to justify her continued existence in my team, I ultimately just stuck with using Lapis because... idk, I just really liked her. And even in that, neither her nor Diamant particularly shines past a point and they both fall off pretty hard. Obviously there's gonna be some favoritism to keep her relevant all game long, but one thing I gradually realized is Maddening Engage just... isn't that difficult, issues be damned, any unit is perfectly serviceable as Brave Assist Body No. 5, it's just a different flavor of character you're putting on that slot.
@@GaleStream Alright so I have been doing some experimenting and LAPIS isn't THAT bad, and like you said Maddening isn't hard enough to the point where you have to minimax every single one of your units. She is salvageable and flexible due to her stats. It isn't a death sentence to run 2 Berserkers for a time either.
I just feel frustrated since she is so hard to work with since she lacks a unique role that isn't filled better. But that doesn't make her bad.
She can be a sizable Warrior/Berserker and is genuinely a threatening Wyvern Rider. Her passive on Wyvern is useful if you have other fliers since you can get the 10 avoid from air raid + 10 from her passive and then 40-60 more from her innate speed and then more from engravings.
Due to the addition of the Ancient Well, you can now make any unit broken by putting busted skills like Lunar Brace on low Str units like Lapis which is what I did. I can easily spend the 5500 SP required to get Lunar Brace+ and Avoid +10 on her, she'll be able to double for solid damage and no enemy in the game can touch her. Running her as Hero with Lucina for Dual Assist + Brave Assist strats, as well Dual Support combined with her personal for even more avoid. Forged Silver Sword +5 with Lucina's engraving has just low enough weight so she doesn't weighed down by it if she gains at least 1 point of build, her one downside being her low build preventing her from being an axe Hero. She can also easily power level with Lucina by getting kills with Parthia.
