I have a friend with a large and very expensive knife collection although the farthest he ever goes outside is 100 meters or so, walking his dog. He is obsessed with sharpness to the exclusion of all other metallurgical properties, knife designs, and handle materials. He has at least $5000 worth of sharpening implements of every variety imaginable and is a sucker for every new product that hits the market. All his blades are made of super hard steel, sharpened at extremely small angles. He spends hours upon hours seeking the ultimate edge on knives that will never be used but live out their lives in drawers and cabinets. He doesn't test his edges in any of the usual ways. No, he assesses edge width with an industrial microscope. I was sitting in his basement not too long ago when FedEx delivered a box for him. Thinking to be helpful, I picked up a small folder from his bench and sliced two 2" pieces of clear plastic box tape. "Ohmigod!" he screamed, "You've destroyed the edge." I'm looking forward to sharing this video with him. Then, after he regains consciousness, I'm going to help him find a good psychiatrist.
@@user-yx7dp2pl8t I highly doubt he would get much business, because the very fine angle part. I think most people want an edge that can cut more than just a piece of tape.

In my business making Laminate and solid surface countertops we had been using 1/2 inch carbide bits in our 3 hp routers and had been using a company for sharpening when another outfit stopped by and claimed they would make our bits sharper, so I tried them. The bits were sharper ,but, we were only getting a little over half the cuts before having to change the bits ' they got dull much quicker with many getting so damaged they had to be scrapped. Glad someone finally made this point.. This was cutting tough materials such as particle board and acrylic materials.
All my knives are usually sharpened to a 25 degree angle or a convex for splitting wood. You don’t even need an expensive set of knives and sharpeners to go outside and cut up some firewood, make a spoon or something, collect some pine resin and make firestarters from them so it’ll be easier to make a fire in the “screw you” season otherwise known as winter where there is no free food growing on the mulberry trees, hickory trees, blackberry bushes, grape vines, etc. It’s either your wood is too wet to sustain a fire or your hands are in pain because you touched some things outside with no gloves and it stops you from doing stuff until you can warm your hands up again. Not to mention that the air gets to be too cold to breathe sometimes.
Hi Micky, I too am a mistake. My Dad is allergic to rubber so whenever he wears flip flops the skin on his feet blister up, it's not too bad but there are parts of your body you never want to see that on! British and Commonwealth people will typically say “half past two”. Americans will almost always say: “two thirty” (similarly, “two fifteen” for 2:15,:and “two forty-five” for 2:45, trusting the pm or am status to be contextually obvious). The “quarter past” and “half past” idiom use may have a percentage use in the States of 10% or less vis-a-via the specific numeric designation. It is that rare, but immediately understood by all. As a general rule, people on the higher end of the social economic spectrum will be more likely to use the “half past” designation, but that’s really my own anecdotal observation. A slightly more common idiom is saying “quarter of” at the 45 minute mark, such that 2:45, for example, is “quarter of three”.

Can you guys do a video for sharpening kitchen knives? I got my gf a Zelie chefs knife made of aus 8 steel and after using it once I noticed the factory edge was already dulling. (On wooden cutting board) I didn’t say anything because she didn’t notice 🤫 but I’m wondering what the most DURABLE edge would be??? I’d rather have a sharp knife that doesn’t need sharpening often versus the sharpest knife and have to clean up the edge every use.....and we are talking light use. Cooking for the two of us.

Haha yes it's correct. Sharpness because of the wrong angle is not good. Sharpness in a right angle is always good
