Age of empires II was the game of my childhood, I beat the campaign being 7 years old lol. Now being almost 19, playing definitive edition I can't believe how greatly you can remake a game without changing it's initial spirit.
I didn't even realise how much the graphics changed until I looked back at videos like these. It's amazing how the game looks exactly how I remember it looking, while at the same time being a complete upgrade in every way.

2020 Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition. The earliest I expect AoE4 to be released is Fall 2021, but 2022 is very likely too, because it will be 25th anniversary.
Age of Empires, Age of Empires 2, and Age of Mythology were the last games I played (Until AoE2DE recently). I had no clue there were so many strange little mobile spinoff games throughout the years or so many expansions and remasters of AoE2 and Age of Mythology.
I remember sitting on my dad's lap almost every week playing age of empires 1, it was the best feeling ever. Then, when aoe 3 came out, I played it with my best friend and made other great memories. I love age of empires and the great memories it has given me.

When i was 8 years old in 1998 it al started, i was hooked when i played the first time. I also jused to play online from 2002 til 2005 on msn zone. Who remembers?
AoE2 DE is the best game I've ever played. I only started playing AoE2 a little after HD version came out. I think it was 2016. I'm almost 42 and I'm playing multiplayer games nearly every week. It's a blast!
The best game in the world in my opinion, full of beautiful graphics, history, learning, excitement, challenges and great memories. Without any doubt this game has a big part of my childhood, adolescence, even in my adulthood I still play it, and I still enjoy it as if it was the first time. I know no one has asked me but I must say that my favorite campaign is Attila the Hun. Great battles and a very brutal story.
There is such a major difference in quality between the MIDI music of the original and the orchestrated music in the remaster! Age of Empires II is much less noticeable, since it had better quality audio that made MIDI feel outdated, even though some games were still using it at the time.
@AlexNOSAM The most interesting in the MIDI version is that it sounds differently on each soundcards, you won't find it sound the same on two different PCs/cellphones, unless they have fully the same hardware, because all sound cards handle the built-in MIDI synthesiser in their own ways. Some sound nicer to your ears, some sound a bit worse - but all having some differences in instrument sounds.

Freshman year of college was all about aoe2 multiplayer over the schools T1 network. Circa 2000... I still get triggered when I hear the attack siren/horn/bell. Anyone else? ...flarivus!!!!
I LOVED everything about this game! The songs, the themes, all the historical characters, even the words the little villagers say when you give them a task 🤭. The cheat codes were awesome! I really want to buy the new game but I don't have a PC now. Any chance it comes out on Playstation? I guess not...
After Age of Empires IV, we will probably see an Age of Mythology Remastered in 2022. Hopefully Rise of Nations will also see new light, since it only got 2 games and 1 remaster on Steam.
Warcraft 3 (Murdered), Starcraft, Battle Realms, Red Alert, Yuri's Revenge, Company of Heroes. Most are gone, but good thing there's still an incoming Age Of Empire 4 that has survived after all the years of stale RTS titles.
Age of Empires 3 TaD is the best AoE3. Gameplaywise and regarding civ-difference and tactical deepness. Just sad many people dislike the setting so they hate it and stick to AoE2.
Thats where we are different. AoE2 offers the most choices and variety to players out of all games. The polish, pace of the game, and AI is also a serious step above AoE. AoE 2 will always be king imo

In MO opinion AOE 3 will never be beatable. It is truly one of the best looking video games at that time and still looks great now.

People now wouldn't know how hard the Colosseum defenders were, Just with Priests, Ballista and Catapults.
I didn't play with these new ones, but AoE1-2 were my favorites. And I think it's not a surprise that we got AoE2 HD too.
Age Of Mythology was such a fun game, I still play the extended edition sometimes. I have like 600 something hours in it.

I can't believe how MIDI the music was in AoE1, when it came out I thought it was dope.
