    I do this with the stalwart all the time, lowest firerate and I just spray into their general direction

      Unrelated but stalwart at lowest rpm is my fave because of how satisfying it sounds, and the way it feels on your hand if playing on PS5 lol. You can feel each shot rather than a continuous stream.

    that's why i always use suppressive fire when possible, had this habit of shooting only when with a target centered, now i use bursts in the generic area, or hold the burst while switching targets, helps quite a lot to avoid beeing overwhelmed

      I got conditioned to expect it around the time I got into Battlefield 3. It feels like it works in PvE (campaign + co-op missions), but it was billed as a central mechanic of PvP where if you shoot at and around other players, their shot spread would widen, their recoil would increase when firing, and the edges of their vision would darken, giving them tunnel vision until they could break suppression for a few seconds. This carried over into Battlefield 4, Battlefield 1, and Battlefield V. It also makes enemies flinch in other game franchises like Metal Gear, Payday, GTA / Red Dead... so I just assume that suppressing fire works. Even if it doesn't, when in a co-op game, it can pull aggro onto one player, giving another player a chance to reposition and break the 50/50. Big mechanic, Aggro, in the Army of TWO games; I miss them.

    I play a lot of ArmA and the concept of suppressive fire is a natural one. When I started playing, I was told bugs were the easy one, but found much greater success with the Automatons. I didn't realize until now that it's because I deliver a lot of suppressive fire even if I'm not sure to hit my target.

      It was gamified but still pretty well done in tom Clancy's: Division (1 and 2) and translated it kinda well into their PvP being that they do more damage to targets not in cover (not attached to a low wall or a wall) incentivizing further to people to not get shot and for people using MG's to lay it down on them.
      and speaking of PvP I have a few examples where it was pretty well done in a few games, but any game (PvP) its in is hated, cause no one likes getting suppressed (they don't realize they arent supposed to like it)
      Games like Battlefield 3 (early game before they toned it down to appease the casual crowd, which was not only a nerf to all weapons but to machine guns in general, they did a pass tuning suppression but I personally think they ruined it)
      Rising Storm 2 did a pretty good job of making it clear you were getting shot at and to make suppression noticeable both ways
      or more current examples, the less casual more hard core shooters like Squad or Squad 44 (aka Post Scriptum) and even Hell Let Loose.
      What catches me off guard is that this game of all games has it implemented, coming from Helldivers 1 I would never had expected such a mechanic but with it implemented it gives more utility to the MG's then just SHOOT MORE and I love that
      But thats just me, an LMG enjoyer

    The animation for the knockback of the berserkers is terrifying their heads will stay looking forward for a second after getting staggered then snap back onto you before they start walking you down again. I don’t know if it’s the same for the devastators but dear god looking down your scope while those things walk you down is a primal kind of fear

      You can stagger lock them (they keep sliding forward) so they go right past you.

      If you land a headshot that doesn't kill the bots, you can crack the skull and see a harvested human brain inside, being used as a CPU. The Automatons in HD1 were Cyborgs, got their asses kicked, fucked off, and returned in HD2 as the Automatons. They're still brains inside of machines though; they're just more machine now, than man.

      @@Rayven_420 Haven't you noticed that the automatons do bleed? You end up the missions soaked in blood sometimes. Check the automaton bases with attention, they have cages where they hold tons of human bodies. Plus the new secondary objective where there's a weird meat grinding machine.
      They are cyborgs, they harvest human parts that are incorporated into the mechanical bodies. It's just that they are way more machine than organic percentage wise.
      Think like Robocop, he has a face, a brain and some simple digestive and circulatory system to keep the organic parts alive. The rest is robotic.

      lol, I don't believe this, I'm literally damaging them with the counter sniper (missing the head) and they'll still beam you.
      Maybe it's been fixed recently, but it definitely had little effect before

    for me the hardest part are when Factory Strider and Tank with Quadcanon variant already locked on us... the accuracy is like a sniper and will shredded you in no time! 😭

    I love that this game has a suppression mechanic at all, at the begining of this games life though there was only these units that were able to be suppressed.
    and while this hasnt changed, the light pen weapons are now able to flinch enemies better with their (recently buffed) stagger value so gaining fire superiority in an engagement is as important as ever.
    I love rock'n an MG and being the guy that keeps your guys alive by causing them to miss their rockets more frequently.

    Payday 2 had this mechanic too. Weapons there have a "threat" stat. The higher it is, the higher the chance police and SWAT get suppressed when shot near or at them. Shotguns and machine guns are better at it, while suppressed pistols are worst.
    (Suppressed SWAT cover, instead of firing at player, even if he is right in front of them and are easier to intimidate and force to surrender)

    That's the suppression stat on most enemies! I found shredder tanks and gunships are most susceptible to bursts of fire, not a continuous stream

      I've noticed a big difference in accuracy at various difficulties. You won't see them leading their shots through the dirt at 10, but it's more common at 7 and below. They also have glitches where their gun just auto fires even when dead or removed.

      @@zemufinman1639 It didn't used to be, but now it's apparent with bots. walking in front of a machine gun nest is a jump scare with maybe 1-2 hits with the initial burst on 7, but on 10 it's like walking in front of a factory strider.
      Just like rocket striders only show up past 7, there are also different versions of automatons, with atleast 2 models for automaton troopers with one being blackfaced and sporting a higher armor rating.
      There are 10 different troopers listed in datamine. Which doesn't split well between 6 different types. Commisars and Scout Raiders are listed separately, as are Rocket Raiders, MG raiders, Assault Raiders, which makes 10 types of trooper to have more confusing.
      You'll at higher levels not just brawlers using MG nests, but also Rocket Raiders. So you could have 11+ different enemies behind the machine gun nest.

    Problem is there’s 35 of them landing behind and on top of you every 60-90 seconds and suppressive fire only really works on the baby bots.
    I have taken off shields, arms and other areas and many a bit still put a red projectile right through my noggin despite shooting second.

    I feel like the suppression used to be almost non existent but now, i feel like the suppression is way overtuned, its like theyre forced to not shoot within a hard circle around you or others when suppressed, i guess the last one was more realistic though i just stopped supressing because after alot of trying i didnt feel a noticeable change, so i just went for headshots instead and hid behind cover more than anything

      If you have the machine pistol sidearm (P-19 Redeemer) equipped you can burst fire in the direction your camera is facing without slowing down, just don't hold the aim button.

    yes this mechanism exist, but this is a bad idea. i would say it's a trap.
    your missed bullets (and you WILL miss) will go straight behind your target and aggro whatever enemy unit in that direction no matter the range.

      Lore-wise we don't know. There is no lore-item proving that actual human brains are in the automatons, though it is somewhat suggested that the automatons are harvesting human brains for some unknown purpose.

      can confirm that, it's just that when a shield dev shoots you it gets hard to notice, cause you eiter die almost instantly or take them out before they can do that (happens a lot, i just spot one, and i am already indistiguishible from a chese toast )

    While I do enjoy the content, I can't help but wonder at the title. This and your other HD2 video has very little to do with the animation team and much more with the coders who program that behaviour.

      Ahh, right the one titled "when the animation team cares about the lore". That's the design team, who put new suits of armour and jump packs on the bots. Maybe, you could argue, the bot looting super vending machines is the animation team, yeah. Still, most of the examples you give in that video and almost all aspects of this video here show the job of non-animators.
