  • I can't stop thinking about the spores. They "bug" me, why spores? How does that make any sense? How are they intergalactic? They're spores... or are they? I don't know but I'm gonna explain to you what happens to you if the spores get into your lungs and eat you from the inside out.
Also they might photosynthesize. But for narrative sake I'm not going to address that till another video.

This is a fun thought experiment, but I think we have a few flaws-
The bug population was curtailed in the first war, as you should know. A enemy who can truly survive beneath us in their totality in such a way that would prevent ease of access-
Well, there'd be bugs everywhere. The ~~Bugs that landed on super earth~~ Colonies that had bugs on them at any point would spiral out of control as, they'd continue to spread. They'd dig deep, burrow in tight, and infest an entire planet's soil. Getting rid of a fictional 40k 'orknoid' population would be easy by comparison. What stops a theoretical rampant terminid presence forever outside of. Cracking the planet open to space.
They did. Borrow deep. But not via the spores, hive lords existence in the first galactic war alone should confirm this.
But not as deep as 'infects the planet itself with something as small as a spore, initially.'
Secondly, there's the fact that the gloom *stops.* It grows, seemingly, at it's own accord. And before the gloom became impenetrable, we've had helldivers fight in. We'll call it "Gloom Lite."
With the amount of holes helldivers accrue, in such a spore filled environment. There'd be "medical concerns" on super destroyers. If at minimum, by Eagle 1 and by Pelican 1's flybys.
Further, something that merely causes a. "respiratory issue" we'll say, could probably not do the same thing it's doing to Probes. Which is a sudden and inexplicable. Stop.
Unless this is a new development of the terminid methodology.
Besides. We don't give masks to SEAF forces, and their fine. They're screaming about being torn in half, but that's normal.

    • @1stColonialRegiment
      @1stColonialRegiment  หลายเดือนก่อน +18

I'm not arguing against the potential that my theory may be wrong, as it likely is. It is afterall speculation, but you may have noticed that I explicitly mentioned that "Traitor" in this hypothetical, was exposed to the gloom directly, as a thought experiment. I'm not eluding to the spore being a "end all, be all" exposure item. I'm referring to the potential hazard of the Gloom itself.
Additionally, the developers didn't think of everything. There are no masked human models in-game, outside of the Helldivers themselves. This is a design oversight and it is at liberty to be, and not to be, taken literally. Someone in the model department, likely didn't have the whole image of the terminids in mind, not that my theory would have been relevant anyway.
It's likely, that spores in small numbers wouldn't mean guaranteed death. The human body is a spectacular biological construct and is very durable, there is the potential for a immunological response to be successful against the inhalation of spores. It's true that spore would hitchhike to other planets on shipments of resources, like how bananas from South America, can have spiders hitchhike, to North America. But this is an advanced space faring civilization that has been dealing and farming the Terminids for over a hundred years. I'm confident their sterilization process is thorough.
The Gloom is not understood, it's under some sort of influence it seems. You make valid points and they're all things I have considered and agreed with at a time, but chose to disregard as I don't even think AH is quite sure what they're doing with the Terminids. There is allot of conflicting narratives with the biology on display. I happen to really enjoy the concept of the absolute horror being reeked under the guise of the gloom, something only Liberty and Managed Democracy can cure.

That is a fair counterpoint, however as a self replicating mold like thing that seems to have a preference for Warm Lungs, but can spread through *space*...
There'd be other evidence. That was the keypoint, but I'll concede that turning the traitors lungs into gloom was justified for the fact that the traitor died at the end all the same.
While certainly not *every* Seaf Soldier's corpse would be. There'd be ample chances to show such scenes- Warm, wet places tend to have a fungal vibe and dying under a spore tree- or a more infested spore planet, only to be found later, does seem to fall within their development time, due to, well. Dead SEAF laying around being generally useless, found in nests, etc.
There's still unmasked SEAF dead, Or those same places 'made'- but to put aside as you've indicated a willingness to do so as well.
Let's say for the sake of argument, democracy protects against...Fungal? Insectoid Infection? It's a very unique idea as a basic premise.
There has been planets [admittedly early on before the Gloom stepped forward.] Which were in the gloom cloud, and other sites [Meridia, springs to mind.] Which the spore count was. We'll say "elevated."
Further, there's the fact that there's enough spores on certain missions to prevent Map usage, a indication of saturation.
I would like to imagine even if the SEAF are immune due to sake of argument, that the planet life generally isn't going to survive for very long in these conditions. As a rule. Egg missions should be more of the norm.
Plant life might thrive until Terminids Terraform [What else would you call the more. Mature. Nests? Not to harp on their ability to do so, but it is a frightening ability.]
Further, I will grant that they have been changed. Drastically. That was never in question. In fact, I'd argue that the thought experiment would work better in my humble opinion. If this *is* a new development.
A, reflection of the Termicide Control Towers if you will. Learned methods on, we'll say an instinctual level.
But, it is never the less, an interesting thought study, and I humbly ask that you take nothing I said personally- I put that forward since, we are on the internet and I don't mean to have anything but a intellectual tone.
      I look forward to more.
Though, on the topic of the horrors of a terminid invasion, their spread is at least in part, the spore. And. We'll call it "wild spread" [Planets formerly held suddenly no longer being held, by virtue of bugs climbing out of the ground and instantly flipping.] Has happened before.
Local SEAF- perhaps in this case Super Earth's Colonial Guard [SECG] to be exact, couldn't mount a defense to save their own lives.
But, if you pardon my usage of this, The developers still enabled the possibility of. Actually, Fighting? The bugs.
A gloom scenario were it's, as discussed in your video. I. Don't think can actually be defeated as, evidence in the first comment.
All the best all the same.

Super Earth deliberately places terminids on planets, allowing them to take root whether for E-710 farming or so they can perpetuate their puppetshow conflicts. Not to mention, terminids were actually peaceful and friendly towards humanity upon initial contact so I doubt they truly have an interest in killing off all respiring life on any planet they're introduced to.

I feel like In the case of the terminids eggs and spores , they might actually breed the spores underground and that’s the reason we see the eggs on the surface , they might breed a crap ton of spores underground and then once the air down there is so full of spores the pressure build up and a hole appears on the surface that a rush of spore clouds come out of, this can also kinda sort of explain the way bug-holes work maybe???

    • @DWal32

maybe the terminid eggs are actually E710 fuel sacs that, when they get filled, burst, _warping_ spores into interstellar space.
whatever E710 actually is clearly has something to do with FTL technology, as last I checked most oil-based engines today dont create warp bubbles, nor do oil fields create whole nebulae in a matter of weeks.

I like your theory or thought that the eggs on the outside of nests were essentially the beginning of Hive in a way. However I dig your idea of them infecting mammals to use their dna and Resorces to feed and produce more.
I think the eggs on the outside of the hatchery are guard eggs. Eggs of major importance as they will turn into the smaller guard units. maybe not the tiny ones, but im talking brood commanders and what not. Its my thought that inner nest are for hatching chargers, spewers, titans, even the tiny spewing bugs and regular small bugs. They all come from inside the nest, then exit to grow and protect the nest....just my theory built off of yours.

It is likely that there are, now presently, only a few militarily possible solutions that would still come at tremendous cost, especially long term, and if it'd ultimately work is entirely up in the air. In fact these are likely more extreme solutions than anything that might be pursuable rawly because of the economic output that'd be completely lost in doing so.
    1: Solarcidal Assault
    - Objective: Initiate Stellar Collapse in systems overrun by the Gloom through inducing artificial supernova (likely almost impossible at present) or through the use of similar measures taken against Meridia - the reduction of the planet into (what is presumably) a black hole.
    - Likely results: Unpredictable consequences in the long term, but presuming this can cause entire star system's worth of Gloom to be pulled inward to these singularities, it'd likely destroy the immediate threat of the Gloom, but this leaves vast amounts of spores in the stellar medium between systems, and will destroy any and all potential productive potential these planets have.
Derivative idea: Artificial inducement of solar flares to destroy large swaths of spores with directed blasts of ejected solar mass.
2: Protracted, Long-term liberation campaigns through the use of the DSS and SEAF forces.
    - Objective: The use of the DSS, and presumably a new weapon system designed to destroy the spores permanently, in conjunction with the SEAF, to liberate worlds one at a time from Terminid control.
    - Likely results: Long and grinding campaigns of attrition. Every world lost to the gloom is likely entirely, completely unusable now, and resembles the state we found Meridia in. If there is to be any liberation of a planet in such a dire state, it will frankly have to come with the liberal use of nuclear weapons, and frankly, liberation may be out of the question altogether with the virtually insane amount of attrition at play. There would never be enough divers, ships, and SEAF personnel on any one planet to make liberating them feasible without a superweapon at hand, and I don't know if the DSS could really be that weapon, or what weapon system they would come up with that would make this possible to begin with. What works on a planet may not work in the stellar medium.
    3: Great Attractor
    - Objective: If in some way it is possible, pull spores in a localized area into a singular point, and either destroy them, or contain them to destroy them later.
    - Likely result:
Unknown. Must be possible for any potential result to really be clear, but whatever form it takes, it'd need to be able to counter these spores, and whatever entity or property they have that has disabled ships and electronics that have entered the Gloom.
    4: Barrier Planets Initiative
    - Objective: Construct a network of planet-wide shield generators on worlds free or recently liberated, with the objective of preserving the world against the spread of the gloom.
    - Likely result: If spores are not able to make it through the shield, then in all likelihood, it might be effective enough to resist the Gloom's encroachment and to deny it access to a world.
    - Inverse:
Attack a world, and establish points in orbit that can be used to generate a planetary shield for the sake of containment. Still runs into the issue of the Gloom itself. Would regular automated stations in all likelihood.
    - Biggest hurdles:
Getting to these planets, building the infrastructure, and powering it long-term.
Power may not be an issue with access to E-710 reserves of substantial size, but the first issue and the second remain. We have to be able to at least protect a ship from the Gloom, long enough to create a shielded platform that can then project a shield over a hemisphere of a planet. This asumes energy costs are not outright prohibitive, which to be fair, they probably aren't that high if we have manportable shield generators.

Putting The Gloom and situation with Meridia into perspective now, I also don't see Super Earth could stop The Gloom conventionally. It's already established that ships and whatnot cannot travel into The Gloom, something is causing them to not return.
I'm thinking, something about the spores within the thick of it, is compromising the ships integrity, and then once that happens, the crew dies, which is why no ships have survived or returned, and also quickly lost communication, maybe months down the line this'll be discovered, and Super Earth will fit Super Destroyers to be "gloom proof", then sending helldivers to attack the source.
alternatively, i'm also thinking, if it's not my spore prediction, compromising ships, then Super Earth will just simply have no method to fight against the Gloom, instead, The Illuminate will make their presence known and attack the Gloom's source, as even though Super Earth is an existential threat, allowing the Galaxy to be consumed by the Terminids, and then subsequently and potentially become a tran-galactic plague that can evolve to cross between the dark space of the universe to spread is a grim possibility The Illuminate wouldn't be willing to allow for. They will be the one's to put down the Gloom's horrific spread, and with their resurgence, another war with Super Earth will ensue.
I kinda like my 2nd theory on the way the story will go, as Arrowhead has blatently spoiled The Illuminate's testing by being publicly visible, this may be happening in December or as early as November.

Dyson lasers or masers could be an effective means of defending systems we hold or retake. But such weapons are limited to _c_ which makes them difficult to use for expeditionary warfare. It's easy enough to blast something from a few light-hours away. Light-years though? Not so much. And that's years that we don't necessarily want to spend just... Waiting.

I think we need to take a note from a old general of Super Earth. The complete and total destruction of boarder worlds to prevent any an all further intrusions.

With the spore method of transmission through lungs it's possible that an individual could be frozen in cryo and transmitted to an uninfected world and intentionally/unwillingly cause an outbreak. Scary!
