    It is worth it. I just completed the Google Cybersecurity Professional Certificate today 5th June 2023. Although, I spend an average of 12 hours every day for 30 days. I enrolled on 05th May 2023.
    I started the program without any background order python basic, both today, I can use Linux, Suricata, SQL, Python, and Splunk tools. It helped me to develop security mindset. I am really happy. Mind YOU, IT ALSO GIVES 30% discount for CompTIA certification.
    Next two weeks will be preparation for interviews and elevation pitch is next.
    It is difficult, especially, if one is new to tech. But it is doable.

    I have a friend who just transitioned into a six-figure entry-level job using this certification and adding some prior tech support experience that was years ago. The company was hiring several individuals. He quit a six-figure job in Medicare sales to do the certification. Working 10 hours per day finish it in a week. In the past, any certification that I have done has always added value. Believe in yourself. Thank you for the value that you bring with your videos. He and his brother got hired at the same company. His brother was making 45,000 at his previous company, now both 95,000. If I did not see with my own eyes I probably would have had some doubt that it was possible. They started training this Oct 23, 2023. What a way to start off the new year. As for myself considering doing the cyber security or software testing.

    Kudos for mentioning this short but IMPORTANT part "..And if you really go through all the exams and all the assignments and really DIG DEEP into each one and don't just rush to the certificate.." THAT! I think the google Prof. certificates's biggest value is the actual knowledge and skills from the practical labs and assignments, not so much the industry recognition.

      I agree!

    • @VyseMalice

      Because you can rush the certificate, the questions don't change, and it's open note; aside from the fact you can take all the tests and get the cert in less than 45 minutes; it's useless on the resume. Anyone who says otherwise is lying to you. Google is paying all these people to push this trash cert. Anyone who supports this cert loses credibility immediately.

    I cranked out the course in 3 weeks working 3-4 hours per day six days a week. I had no prior cybersecurity knowledge before I started. You definitely will need more experience with Linux, SQL and Python then what is included in the course.

    • @TheStncld357
      @TheStncld357 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good afternoon Viking 88, so you really did this with no prior cyber security knowledge? My computer knowledge is limited though I really need a career change (I'm currently working as a Physical Therapist).

    • @viking8889
      @viking8889 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheStncld357 yes but I will say that the google course is easier/better than the IBM or Microsoft cybersecurity courses. I started the IBM course but abandoned it after two days. Very difficult to follow, poorly put together by people doing it via Zoom calls. The Microsoft course was ok but the quizzes at the end of each chapter were awful. Full of errors and they ask questions about things that were not covered in the lesson. I am still working through the Microsoft course but its much slower pace than the Google course.
      Another thing to consider is you dont have to master the topics, especially the programming languages. Google has sections on SQL, Python, and Linux. All are difficult and I could see from the comment sections at the end of those chapters that the number of people who continued with the course was dropping off rapidly. They don’t actually test you on it and there is not enough practice with it to master any of those languages. Microsoft course doesn’t cover them hardly at all because they teach the Microsoft programs and software. So don’t worry if you can’t master the computer programming part in the Google course because you can just fake your way through those chapters and you probably will never need to really know them anyway.
      Finally, just completing those or any cybersecurity course will not be enough to get a job. You will to get the CompTIA + Security certification just to get a job (maybe) and there are no ligit “entry level jobs”. Every listing for a level 1 security analyst requires 1-2 years of experience. Thats because cybersecurity is a cost these companies dont want to have to pay for. They don’t want to train you or provide education because thats just more cost. They expect you to be an experienced person for even an entry level job.

    • @RyanPMcGowan
      @RyanPMcGowan ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It does not. I have used python and linux for years. My experience was a detriment to completing the labs because they require you to follow the steps exactly as laid out. For the labs I had less experience in (SQL - I know it, but not as well as the other two), I found it much "easier".
      I was able to finish the course in a couple of days working about 4-8 hours a day depending on my work load.
      The videos were not particularly helpful for me. Instead, I read the text for almost all of them. That cut down the time dramatically. There are a few videos that have on screen demonstrations that are worthwhile, but you can watch those at an increased rate to save time.
      I personally completed every lab except for two - two of the linux labs. I did not do the portfolio work as I am working on my own already. However, if I were to have done the portfolio work as it was laid out, it would have taken me about two extra days of time.
      If you are a complete beginner with anything related to computers, it will probably take a bit of time to complete. If you're not a beginner, you can complete the entire thing pretty quickly. It will take more time if you have a job than if you do not.

I should be done with these by the end of this summer and by July 2025 is when I plan on getting a job in the Los Angeles area. I’ll probably take more courses in order to overall prepare myself more. From what I have been seeing in the LA area are entry level cyber security analyst roles no less than a $90k starting salary really. Having a secret or Top Secret clearance can also help you land a 6 figure starting salary from what it looks like on LinkedIn. Just got to work for a national defense oriented company. I like the course I’ve been learning a lot and a cyber security analyst role is very similar to my current job just security in the cyber realm and not in physical world

    • @cbot375
      @cbot375 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      It's not a certification, It's a certificate and no it's not better than Sec+
      This is like an introduction, it's not meant to get a job, nore is any certification by itself really (arguably). The only certification that is really aimed at employment is the A+.
      Cyber security is not something you can just jump into, which is why these certificates are misleading, Cybersec takes years of experience and learning to build up to.
      I would recommend that you go get your A+ first so that you can get into entry IT then from there you can continue to obtain certifications while you gain experience and network with people and figure out your long term path.

    • @dilraj6911
      @dilraj6911 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if you complete google cert you'll get a kickstart to sec+ and 30% from exam fee. i would say don't go A+, rather than attain the knowledge of those through avail online study materials and these entry level cert cost you an arm and a leg. if you're looking on to defence attain the knowledge from a+ and net+ and go for sec+ or if you're into offsec same as i earlier said get the knowledge from all thosed three a+, net+, sec+ and do some CTF(HTB or THM) or bug bounty and get some hand-on-experiance, then clear pentest+ and go for OSCP
      you can figure it out in your own way, this is totally my opinion

    • @--Morpheus--
      @--Morpheus-- ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dilraj6911 to summarize, study the material thats covered in a+ and net+ and sec+ but actually just educate yourself enough for the final sec+ cert. ?
      Then grind on ctfs and potential bug bounties to get more experience for the oscp for a couple solid certs?
      Not trying to cut corners, I just know theres lots of certs that may help but arent staying very relevant. Thanks

    • @dilraj6911
      @dilraj6911 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@--Morpheus-- FYI, A+, net+, sec+, these all are basics of cyber security. Whether you go onto offsec or defense, if you study these basis it will be more helpful for you throughout your cyber security career. Ofc you can skip those and jump onto your exact learning path which will be pen tester, analyst, architect and more.. The more you work on basics , more strong will be your base on cyber security
      PS: Again all these are my personalized opinions and the one i followed to get into this cybersec

    I’ve never taken a Google course on Coursera.
    How is the training formatted?
    I ask this, because there are multiple videos from this actual Google CyberSecurity program on TH-cam already. Google has them already on TH-cam.
    So during the course in Coursera are you getting multiple frequent quizzes during each hour/hour 1/2 video, or is there just one larger quiz at the end of each hour/hour 1/2 video course section??
    I know there are multiple different trainers. One for each different subject or topic being taught. I’m just confused on how often there are multiple refresher quizzes, during each teachers subject/topic or just one larger quiz after each different teacher is done with their subject/topic??
    Just kinda want to prepare or game plan as to what to expect from how the course is structured. Also how the information is taught for information retention purposes.
    I don’t want to just pass a test. I want to actually learn something and have/get some hands on experience.
    I’d prefer the multiple smaller quizzes within each section for information retention purposes.
    🤷‍♂️

    Depends on why you're getting it. If you're getting it because you think it will get a job then you need to full stop. This is not meant to get you any type of IT work. These are just introduction into the IT space. If you are unsure about IT and you want some introductory information then a certificate course is fine (anyone can create a certificate course). They are more for your own personal encouragement.
    If you like material presented and if you think you want to take IT seriously as a career then after getting a certificate you should just jump right and get industry recognized certifications, which will actually be useful to your resume and can potentially find you work in entry IT. From there you can research more about your specific long term route.
    Again, do not get these thinking it's meant to get you a job.

      I think security+ is on the way out. The only reason security+ is in demand is because of the DoD. Sec+ offers virtually no practical skills. It's almost all theory and doesn't really provide a person with the foundational skills they need to do the job. The fact that "portfolios" are becoming a thing for cybersecurity is one of the biggest tells that we're entering a paradigm shift in how certificates are viewed.

      So basically, after completing google's cyber security course, move on to next step which is sec+ by comTIA(you will get 30% off when you attend sec+ after google certification). Sec+ is one of the certifications which is kinda mandatory for analysts and it will help you a lot to get through HR interviews and get your foot in the door
      PS: along your learning path, try to cover the syllabus of net+, which also helps you a bit in sec+ exam and at some point if you wanna change your career track from analyst to pentester or architect or an upgraded version of analyst, it will help you to set a base stone in cyber security
