TEKKEN 8 - Mishima Dojo | How to do an Electric Wind God Fist (Pad/Stick)

- Tutorial I put together on what the electric is, why its such a strong move and how to perform it on pad and stick. Had a few comments in some of the combo videos of people asking what is the electric so I made this video for it!

Just to clarify the fastest launcher in the game is yoshis flash which I forgot about (I dont know how i forgot cause its cheap af) but it is limted as its range is very bad!
Flash is also -15 with no range, so if people follow your video its full launch on a block or whiff!

@@roadman_abz488 When he goes into one of his stances it is a bit slower I think but has a tiny bit more range or something like that isnt it? It's 6 frames outside of the stance I think
I dont think flash is a launcher anymore, it might just be me but i cant get more than a 14 frame move off of it.
See this is how Yoshi keeps getting away with it. The move is so forgettable for being as good as it is.
Something I noticed as a pad player regarding timing for electrics, if you tap forward on the d-pad, and immediately press 2 afterward, it usually lines up perfectly for when your thumb slides to down-forward.

@@ZenkaiwavI think he means that when you press forward, instead of focusing on inputting the sliding motion for the down forward, try to focus pressing 2 first instead. The reason I think that's what he means is that people often comment that the ewgf seems easier when you try to imagine yourself pushing 2 before the down forward input instead of in the middle of it

I know you can tell they had a much higher budget for this game and really put a lot into the visual effects!

This is such a great video. I got back into Tekken with 8 after not playing much since Tekken 5 on the PSP years ago (i dabbled with 6 and 7 but not much) and I've been having a blast with Reina, but i couldn't for the life of me figure out why I couldn't hit the electric. Didn't realize the df+2 needed to be hit at the same time, so now i know what i was doing wrong. Appreciate it my dude.

Mapping 2+3 to L2 has always helped my consistency for electrics. Something about the input for df & 2 being on the same hand works for me. It doesn’t force heat when you do it. Also note that if your character has a d2 or d2+3 input. It could cause issues.
The reason why that is; it is easy to coordinate movement with the same hand.

btw for anyone here on a console, just go to accessibility and map forward/back to a different button. Easy electrics after that ;)
Personally. I found that if I prepare to hit 2 when I go down, it increases my accuracy (on stick). I am still practicing thanks for the tutorial.

Returning playing Tekken since 2 on the PS, my hands are not good as I was before, but this game is so fun that I'm practicing, I'll leave this for last until I can master the combo guide on practice mode :)

I use the analog sticks on xbox and the faster movements are easier in my opinion than dpad once you hit the lab and find exactly where you start and end your quarter circle forward
It was the same for me until I forced myself to use d-pad, I do way less mistakes when I use d-pad but thats just me
I prefer analog stick too. But for particular reason other then the fact i find the dpad very awkward to use at least on an Xbox controller. It also feels way more fluid and fun to use then the dpad for me. Arcades often use joysticks so even if dpad is better ill just use that fact as cope

IMO once you get how it's done, it's much harder to maintain consistency on pad/controller than it is on stick. i.e. you are still gonna fail more on controller than on stick. And if you're on controller, be ready to get a few blisters especially if the D-pad on your controller is still new or not worn out yet.
Something to note too you can also completely skip the Down input and go straight to D/F after neutral
For kazuya and reina yes! Better to learn the way with the down first as its universal to the other mishimas and will also help when it comes to learning wavedash etc

tip for DPAD: use ur thumb to get DF easier by that means is rather than rolling ur tumb like in the video you just mashed it at once it's more easier but then again

but i dont know why EWGF is actually input was FNDF without D before DF
oh yeah try it on reina better if you wanted to practice it cause reina has electric dash to know the timing when you doing FNDDF

hahaah using the pad for some reason makes my finger tired super fast while using the claw grip, and the stick came yesterday and surprisingly i managed to nail a few electrics right away!@@GhostsGraveYT
PEWGF is the SECOND fastest NORMAL-HIT launcher (after Yoshimitsu's NSS flash).
Steve's b1, for instance, is faster than PEWGF but it's only a counter-hit launcher.

Flash is faster indeed but wouldn't be a traditional launcher in the sense as the opponent has to be attacking/make contact but yes it is faster (so cheap at times 😂)
Steve's b+1 is 13 frames which is the same as kazuya/Reina PEWGF and the fact that it's counterhit means it can't punish etc!
When you're doing the 2xewgf combo you can do the guaranteed stance version for the second ewgf every time and get it easily.
What do you mean by stance version?
@@bignoob2726 3+4 stance, hold df to cancel into red eye stance(forgot the name), then just press 2 for ewgf.

@@bignoob2726 no one hit's every single ewgf and the only reason it's not as good as just straight up hitting the second ewgf is because you have to go into stance and essentially plan on hitting.
the simultaneous bs is annoying hard on the controller
It’s arguably the best move in tekken so yes it has to be hard to execute to balance it in theory kazuya would be the best character in tekken if everyone could punish everything punishable with electric for full damage and perform df2 pewgf every time

I find that timing the button press is really awkward. On pad, I notice that it seems inconsistent on whether I press earlier or later in the crouch dash (i.e., getting electric and the normal wgf on seemingly the exact same timing). Any recommendations on finding a consistent method for timing the press?

It's kind of just a matter of practicing the timing, I remember when I first started to do it I thought I'd never be able to do it consistently and that was when I played on pad but I just got better and better! Some people find it easier to time the electric if they map the triangle button to R1 on their controller! I press the 2 button just after I start the sliding motion on pad if that helps at all
Turn on your command history and pay attention to the input frames.
On arcade stick, there's a df angle which allows registers down for 1f before df so the way forward would be to find that angle and practice your electrics from there.
On pad that same angle might exist on the D-Pad(definitely does on the analogue), so you pay attention to the command list and see what way positioning your fingers to do electrics brings the most consistency for you... If you're lucky, it will also be the fastest way you can do it(i.e not the actual fastest way in terms of perfect input, but good enough).
To be perfect with Mishimas, it's better to use stick and you can play longtime Tekken with stick.
Judging by the accent I'd say we're in a similar part of the world lol. Was wondering how did you get your hands on the eTokki stick? Did you order from them directly? Seems like they haven't restocked the korean version in a long time.

It's a great stick very sturdy and you wouldn't think mine is over 10 years old! You didn't send them an email enquiring about one? Maybe they are bringing out one thats compatible with the PS5 now
@Dianatroda Aye I probably should've sent an email, I'll do that this evening. I just use a traditional japanese lever and it doesn't feel like it springs back to neutral very quickly. I can do single CD and EWGF some what consistently but chaining them is tough. Just have to keep at it. Anyway, brilliant guide!

@th-cam.com/users/TheRustaclut0 I am using triangle on the d pad. Some people also map triangle to the L1 button as they feel it helps when everything is done on one hand so you can try that to and see which one works best!
I remember in the old Tag 2 days I could do it very consistently with Kaz but nowadays I can't anymore. Guess I lost the muscle memory. Got some hard work to do....
The movement in TAG 2 was the GOAT! I did like Tag 2 even though it nearly killed the franchise
So… which controller objectively is the most optimal for performing the EWGF? Keyboard, leverless, arcade stick or pad?
Keyboard or hitbox is in my opinion, I'm just reluctant to change as it is a big learning curve and I have been playing on stick a long time!

Is anyone able to do electrics consistently on the PS5 controller? Cause I've been struggling the past week.
it is possible, just takes a loooot of practice, people take years to get good at getting an electric capable of whiff punish, switching timings, counter hit, etc. See your command history to know where you messed up

Currently on padbi use the dragon punch method. I still have to work on the timing but I can consistently wave dash using that motion. Now I just have to time the 2 with the "crescent" motion of the dragon punch input. If you play games like street fighter you know what that means. Simply, it's tap forward, tap down, while sliding your thumb from down to down foward.

I need to get a korean stick now. I still use the sanwa
I used sanwa at the start and I much prefer the Korean stick, I feel electrics, wavedash and backdash are so much smoother! But that was just my experience with it I know a lot of people prefer the sanwa stick or the k stick

Turn on command history and look at exactly when you are hitting 2! Try to delay it a bit more then if you are hitting it to early!

Are there any major differences between jin's electric compared to the other mishimas? Because it seems like his launches differently
His does a different launch, yes.
It launches different and tornado spins immediately but other than that it shares similar characteristics.....still has high damage to!
I have limited practice on player 2 side so my electrics are definitely better on player 1 lol. My main issue is that i can hit electrics pretty good in training mode but in a match my hands lose their nerve, and i only get maybe 2 or 3
Also can you go into detail about what a perfect ewgf is? I assumed it was just an electric with the fastest possible input, but i don't see how that would exclude Jin, Devil Jin and Kuma from doing it
I would just try and relax a bit more in a game and not focus on winning to much but just improving and taking what you did well in a match and what you didn't do well and work on it!

Idk what I’m doing wrong exactly, your tip helped me do WGS and WGF, but I can’t seem to pull off EWGF at all. I have the input display out I see that I am pressing the correct input but it’s still giving me WGF instead of EWGF 😭
Someone commented here saying that after they tap forward they immediately hit the 2 and it lines up nicely with the down forward!
Are you doing the movement fast enough?
It’s really difficult with the xbox controller since the d-pad is one whole thing, instead of the individual left,right,up,down buttons on a ps5 controller. That is my only problem
Yeah the xbox controller is not optimal for tekken at all! There is alternative pad controllers you could look at getting that are made for fighting games and are not to expensive!
Very good tutorial. I used to main Asuka, but Reina was too cool to not play. I can do the electric, but struggle with consistency. Any tips on finding that sweet spot for the timing?
Practice that’s all it is man.. once u find that spot u can’t lose it.. u honestly aren’t going to electric every single time even the best don’t
Practice as much as you can and it gets better over time. Just try out the different timings and make sure you put on command history in practice to see if you are inputting the 2 to early or to late!
Reina also a much stronger character than Asuka. Asuka received way too many nerfs in T8. Definitely among the worst characters in the game currently sadly.
@Shadowsmoke11 yeah I seen she got nerfed hard for some unknown reason, she wasn't really strong before that so not sure why they went for her at all

If your doing it on pad and doing (foward - down - foward ) doesn’t that mean that your like technically skipping the DF input also to get it successfully I’m assuming you’d still need to hit (triangle) when your hitting the last foward input then?
No you wouldn't be skipping the down forward and you need to hit the triangle at the same time as downforward
So, from what you're saying in your intro, the EWGF is Tekken's version of Street Fighter's Hadoken.

There's new tech where apparently you can plink special style button and button to get ez electric every time but the problem is it comes out slower than the legit version at 18f whereas normal electric comes out in 13f. so it might be useless but still it's there.
Hmmm never heard of that method until now but 18 frames is a good bit slower but still another method!

New to tekken, feel like an arcade stick would fit me better, any recommendations?
Nah pad would be better for you since it is familiar. An arcade stick is extremely hard and it depends on what you're comfortable with because some stick has different sensitivity that even moving it slightly the character will move
Stick I think offers higher highs and lower lows. Im a god when it comes to execution on p2 side, but whenever I get side swapped it feels like my gameplay becomes noticably weaker.
Understand that stick is a time and cost invesment as well. It will not feel natural at all at first, and there might be chance that you end up getting frustrated, especially with movement and defense.
If youre willing to except these factors, then its most definetly possible to achieve great heights on stick in comparison to pad, but in the current landscape of fighting games id actually recommend a hit box. Has the ease of use of pad and allows for the fast execution you are likely after with a stick.
Buuuut.... if youre still insistent on an arcade stick more power to you. Its a rewarding and just plain fun input to master. Theres also a passionate community around stick modding. If youre looking for a good entry level, prob go with a mayflash f500 that either has the standard japanese sanwa parts, or is moddable to swap those parts in. But of course if you have more to spend then absolutely get a qanba obsidian. Best stick ive ever used and many tekken pros love it. Long asf message but I hope it helps (maybe I should have just made this into a video on my dead channel💀)
youtube.com/@HelloThere-bj9rw I think hunchosett gave a very good reply there and I agree with him. It takes a while to get good and comfortable with stick. When I first started it took me a good few months to get consistent with it. I was told back then that I needed to play on stick to take mishimas to the highest level possible but this isnt the case, you can easily do this on pad or hitbox either!
But if you are willing to put in the time and effort I would recommend a korean stick, I use the etokki omni Korean edition :)

Also god I hope im lucky enough to get an ettoki but I cant find a decent new one for sale on reputable retailers. I've been wanting to make the jump to korean lever for awhile now, and im ready for the challenge of more precision but also more room for error with a gromet instead of a restrictor gate. I think my best bet is either the nacon daija or swapping out my sanwa on the qanba with likely the ROX dragon knee lever. I heard pretty good things about it and it looks so sick
@hunchosett Do they not still sell them on the etokki website? I got mine in 2012 so I'm not sure if they are not producing them anymore? But that being said I know it cost me a good bit at the time but well worth the investment as I still have it today and its working perfectly!

I really hate these moves cause it feels like harada is really set on you destroying your controller instead of just taken out the normal wind god fist and leave ewgf in
I would suggest not practicing wgf but go straight to ewgf, this mindset will help build muscle memory for ewgf rather than wgf

Nope I didn't mod it, the etokki omni is a very comfortable stick!
Can you Do a leverless guide?
I have never used a hitbox or keyboard before so I can't really do a guide for them! I do know that using hitbox is a big advantage for tekken though so I always thought would it be worth learning it 🤔

It's just the same as when I bought it, I think I will change the grommet in mine soon though as its lost a lot of it's resistance

I play on controller stick and I always seem to struggle in matches inputting in from the left side. But when I'm on the right side of the screen, I nearly get electrics consistently. Any tips?
Left side is very tough and took me a while to get good on it. My best advice is to force yourself to play on the P1, that's what I did and now I prefer P1! Just practice doing it slowly on P1 in practice as its your whole hand doing the work compared to the P2 side
@Dianatroda yeah, the funny thing is I normally practice/play p1 side, and it feels more forced after a couple hours of playing. Whereas p2 side I never train and electrics come like nothing. It's weird. Just gotta keep working on it

@K1DPUNK_ have you got the electric version even once? Try binding 2+3 to the l1 button and use that as you're 2 button for the electric...some people find it easier to do it like this at first!

No I don't hit the x button, it's the triangle button and you only hit it once!
